At the opening of the March 16 Council Meeting, Holden Higbie was recognized for participating in the DCHS Boys Swim & Diving team at the State Competition and earning the State Championship in the 1 meter diving event. Standing behind Holden are Council members Chris Gearld, Nancy Leavitt, and David Winters.
After more discussion at an earlier Work Study session, the Danville Town Council approved a cost analysis by Baker-Tilly Municipal Advisors on the feasibility of creating a Fire Territory. The fiscal study will cost approximately $23,000, with the Town of Danville paying the bill and Center Township reimbursing the Town for half the cost. Marion Township, which has a fire protection agreement with the Town and Center Township, has opted not to participate.
The fire Department is current operated with funds from Center Township and from the Town. A fire territory would create a separate taxing unit.
While approving the study, Council President David Winters said caution should be used in raising taxes for the residents.
On behalf of the Danville Fire Department, Fire Chief Rob Roberts thanked the officials for moving forward with the study.

The participants will attend classes for four weeks and 40 hours per week. A total of $17,000 was requested from the Host Fund Priority Projects to cover this cost. Supt. Pitcher said that these were lifetime certifications and that future needs for this would be worked into the department’s budget.
