ABOUT THE BACKPACK PROGRAM IN HENDERSON COUNTY...Each year, the Open Studio Tour holds a raffle during the Preview Party at Rhythm & Brews. All the proceeds from the raffle are donated to the Backpack Program in Henderson County. Artists and studios are asked to put together fabulous artworks and crafts for raffle prizes. The Backpack Program serves between 135 and 200 children of Henderson County Public Schools each week during the school year. Children, who have food during the school week, may go without on weekends. Every Friday backpacks full of non-perishable food is packed and delivered to schools in the county for students who need food for the weekend. MANNA Food Bank sends the core bag of food and it is supplemented with additional food items. The funds to do this come from grants, private donations and sources such as the raffle at the Open Studio Tour Preview Party.
