Trustee Ryan Stands Up For Village, People Upset with what he calls “a process that does not represent the best interests of the people,” Village of Hempstead Trustee Don Ryan today announced he is launching an effort to change the law that allows village budgets to take effect regardless of whether or not they are approved by a majority of its trustees. Ryan’s anguish stems from a recent 4 -1 vote that went against a proposed budget by Mayor Wayne Hall, the only trustee who voted for the measure, which raises overall spending and will result in a 9.16 percent property tax increase for the average Hempstead Village homeowner. The new budget takes effect June 1, 2007 and covers the fiscal year through May 31, 2008. “It is illogical Ryan said.” “The system must be changed so that trustees as well as the public are a bigger part of the Village’s budgeting process.” Included among the possible changes Ryan indicated he plans to pursue: •
