September marked the first anniversary of the Maylands Business Centre, celebrating a very successful year. The Business Centre has proven itself to be a popular and valuable resource to businesses looking for their first premises, and continues to go from strength to strength.

The advert below offers more information on the services on offer to new businesses. Several of the centre’s tenants have expanded and moved on to larger premises, proving the concept behind the Business Centre that with the right kind of support, small businesses can thrive.

Cllr Terry Douris, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Regeneration, said, “The Maylands Business Centre represents the Council’s commitment to supporting small and startup businesses to establish themselves and flourish. The first anniversary is an important milestone. I’m overjoyed at how successful the Business Centre has been and we are now forecasting that the centre will have paid back the Council's investment nine months earlier than we originally planned.”

Police are appealing to members of the public for information in relation to the theft of a puppy stolen from a home in Hemel Hempstead, on Thursday 6th of September. The incident happened between 1 0.30 and 1 0.45am when a man claiming to be offering landscaping work went into a home in Briery Way. He then stole the pup before leaving in a white transit van, believed to also have a woman in the passenger seat. The victims were able to give a good description of the suspect - a white man aged in his late 20s to early 30s who was of a stocky build. He is described as having short brown hair, a brown beard and was wearing a long sleeve purple top with a white logo and black trousers.

PC Jamie Negrello is investigating and said: “Firstly I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the Briery Way area on September 6th and saw this vehicle or the man driving or was approached by the suspect with regards to landscaping. I would also like to appeal to anyone who is aware of where the puppy is now or if they believe they have been offered it for sale to contact police. Do you have any information about the incident? Dacorum Borough Council have taken on 1 5 new apprentices as part of their commitment to supporting young people into employment. The apprenticeships scheme was brought in earlier this year, with positions offering mixture of on the job training and the opportunity to work towards nationally recognised qualifications.

Rose Campbell, apprentice in the Regeneration team, said, “At the end of this I will gain a nationally recognised qualification and experience of working full time in a professional organisation. I’m now a working mum gaining further education.”

The Council worked with Job Centre Plus and West Herts College to recruit registered unemployed young people on 1 2 month fixed term contracts. The scheme is also benefitting the local voluntary sector. Of the 1 5 apprentices, one is based at the

The NHS reported earlier in the year that in 2010 1 in 4 adults and 16% of all children in England were obese. They also reported that if left unchecked, 41 48% of all men and 3543% of all women in the UK could be obese by 2030. Given the impact that being overweight and obese has on an individual’s health, the estimated cost on the NHS is reported to be around £5.1 Billion per year and is set to rise.* But is it not only the health and economic issues that are a factor, the impact that being overweight and obese has on the individual mental state is also huge. For many, eating is not just simply a way to sustain themselves, many look to comfort eating when stressed and fail to address the real reason why they eat the way they do.

Yoyo diets, unused gym memberships and need for instant results can fail to address the real reason behind peoples eating habits.

Gina Lennon, from Ideal Weight, a new and refreshing weight loss plan, believes that the reason why people constantly fail in their diets is due to these issues not being addressed. Gina explains, “Too many people look for quick fix or fad diets, lose some weight, feel great and then return to their old eating habits. By addressing the issues behind their relationship with food they can begin to move forward and take control”. Gina continues to explain, “There are other companies in the industry which offer support to address these issues, but in today’s world there is a need for a new refreshing approaching to weight loss that is flexible to individual needs”.

It was the aspiration to offer a set of flexible weight loss plans that was behind Gina’s desire to help set up Ideal Weight with another experienced weight loss professional Alexis Boo.

Gina’s desire to have a hands on approach drove her to oversee the setup of the Ideal Weight branch in Hemel Hempstead with experienced coach Lindsey ThompsonWright. Lindsey will be running coaching sessions each week and work face to face with clients looking to address the issues behind their weight.

Gina explains, “Our aim is to help and support people through their weight loss to weight management. The coaching enables our clients to take full control over creating a healthy diet, and help them have a more balanced view of food. We understand that one size never truly fits all, which is why we believe in helping people find their ideal weight. *All data sourced from http://www.dh.gov.uk/health/2012/04/obesityfacts/ accessed on 19/9/2012.
