Opening Session Keynote Address: A Woman’s Work is Never Done Keynote Speaker: Dr. Eleanor Green

Break Out Sessions

In 2008, Dr. Eleanor Green was named Dean of the TAMU College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Green is the first woman to hold this position.

Dr. Green previously held leadership or faculty positions in veterinary medicine at the University of Florida-Gainesville, University of Tennessee in Knoxville, the University of Missouri, and Mississippi State University. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida-Gainesville, and a doctorate from Auburn University. Dr. Green is responsible for six academic departments and the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. As a woman who has spent her career in a predominately male dominated field, Dr. Green is frequently called upon to share her unique experience and advice with other women.

“Surviving Office Politics” (Both Sessions) (601 Rudder) Presenter: Dr. Merna Jacobsen, Director of the Women’s Resource Center, Texas A&M University Office politics are part of every organization. This intriguing session offers practical survival skills for dealing with office politics. We will define office politics and participants will have an opportunity to identify their political style. We will identify games people play in organizations and participants will be able to diagnose whether or not their office place is a political ‘war zone.’ Strategies for protecting oneself, building credibility, and dealing with the negative effectives of office politics will be provided.

“Leadership: Not Only About the Leader” (Both Sessions) (110 Koldus) Presenter: Dr. Kelleen Stine-Cheyne, Assistant Director, HR Employee & Organizational Development, Texas A&M University Leadership is a relationship among leaders and followers who work together to achieve a common goal. Leadership involves courage, risk, support and interdependence. Learn how to facilitate a relationship that can foster exciting results for everyone.

“Every Woman can Overcome Stress: Tips for Identifying and Reducing Stressors in Your Life” (Both Sessions) (111 Koldus) Presenter: Mary Odum, Doctoral Candidate of Health Education; Department of Health and Kinesiology This is an interactive session focused on providing you with tools to identify key stressors in your life and begin the process of taking charge of reducing these stressors. Come ready to make a positive difference in your life and take the first step toward reducing your personal stressors.

Student Track: “The Strength to Lead Begins Now” (Session 1 Only) Presenter: Elizabeth (McKee) Gore’99 (504 Rudder) Student Track: “Facing the Reality” (Session 2 Only) (504 rudder) A panel consisting of a student athlete, a faculty member, and a woman from the Corps of Cadets will discuss what it’s like to acknowledge there is a “glass ceiling” effect and how they personally have overcome it in a field typically dominated by males.

Concluding Remarks Keynote Speaker: Elizabeth McKee Gore ‘99 Executive Director, Global Partnerships and Nothing But Nets, The United Nations Foundation Elizabeth Gore is the executive director of global partnerships for the United Nations Foundation, currently managing partnership and cause marketing strategies implemented in programs and campaigns of the United Nations. Mrs. Gore also directs successful initiatives such as Nothing But Nets, the upcoming Girl Up campaign benefiting adolescent girls globally, $150 Million campaign for malaria programs and the Global Fund, and a multi-million dollar partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Elizabeth recently joined Summit on the Summit and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness for the global clean water crisis on behalf of the United Nations.

Prior to joining the UN Foundation, Mrs. Gore served as the director of development and corporate relations for the Points of Light Foundation. There, she facilitated the development department by successfully fulfilling yearly financial needs of the organization. In tandem, she created a new fund-raising model for the Foundation through corporate cause marketing, connecting the Volunteer Center National Network with corporations and financial partners. Her consulting experience includes the implementation and launch of The Great American Bake Sale, an anti-hunger initiative for Share Our Strength, ABC television and Parade magazine.

Mrs. Gore is a former United States Peace Corps volunteer and served in Bolivia, South America. In Bolivia, she wrote, received and managed a USAID grant to better the food availability and economic situation for the Chaco.

Mrs. Gore is originally from Texas where she was a financial development associate for the A&M Foundation. She holds a bachelor of science in Animal Science and a masters in Financial Development from Texas A&M University.

In 2008, Mrs. Gore was named by People Magazine as one of the top 100 Extraordinary Women. Mrs. Gore has been featured on multiple media outlets including; Glamour, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, People Magazine, Real Simple and the New York Times. Mrs. Gore is a World Champion Equestrian.

About the Women’s Progress Awards Texas A&M University’s Women’s Progress Awards began as part of Women’s Week in 1994.

The awards are designed to honor Texas A&M students, faculty and staff who encourage and promote sensitivity to and awareness of issues that relate to women. Each recipient receives a plaque and $250.
