Celebrating ‘Chemotherapy in the Community Week’ A MOBILE chemotherapy unit will arrive in Helston on Wednesday to mark ‘Chemotherapy in the Community Week’.

Hope for Tomorrow’s Cornwall Mobile Chemotherapy Unit (MCU) will visit Tesco in Helston between 10am and 3pm to offer advice on how to reduce the stress of driving long distances for appointments and the waiting times for chemotherapy treatment.

The annual awareness campaign aims to highlight the benefits that MCU's bring to patients undergoing treatment, while allowing people to focus on their life outside of cancer.

Charity ambassador Sue Thomas said: “As someone who has faced cancer personally, and also as the wife of a beloved husband receiving this news, I know that the most important factor in our lives became time. By making treat-

ment more locally accessible for cancer patients, Hope for Tomorrow provides

Baroque musicians to play near Helston BAROQUE musicians The Heinichen Ensemble will perform at Roselidden Farm this weekend.

The ensemble take baroque music – a style composed from the early 1600s – by relatively unknown composers and play it on instruments typical of the time to provide the experience of how it would have sounded when first performed.

The performance starts at 3pm on Sunday and tickets, which include tea and cakes, are £10 and available on 01326 558748. Directions to the venue which is two miles from Helston located at Trevenen Bal can be found at www.roselidden.co.uk.

All profits from the concert will go to support the work of the Cornwall Music Therapy Trust.

Autumn Lectures at Museum HELSTON Museum’s series of Autumn Lectures continues this Thursday.

The subject for this week’s lecture is ‘The Jews in Cornwall’ and will be presented by Keith Pearce.

The talk runs from 1pm until 2pm and costs £3.

The enemy of the state?

DAVID Cameron had time-out from preparing pork and special sauce sandwiches last week to make misleading comments about the leader of the Labour party.

The Prime Minister said: “You only really need to know one thing: he thinks the death of Osama bin Laden was a ‘tragedy’.”

It is true, Jeremy Corbyn did actually say those words which could cause gasps among those who still believe it was ter-

rorists that brought down the Twin Towers.

However, that was not all he said and the words Cameron omitted from his speech change the meaning dramatically.

Corbyn said that it was a tragedy that Bin Laden had been assassinated rather than put on trial, it was a tragedy that 911 happened at all, that we had gone to war and that tens of thousands of people died before going onto clarify he felt that killing the former head of al-Qaeda had created a situation that posed more of a threat to British people than if he had been captured.

Cameron added: “We cannot let that man inflict his security-threatening, terrorist-sympathising, Britain-hating ideology on the country we love.”

Clever distortion of a situation but if the PM spoke the

truth, he could be the one revealed to be Britain-hating, or at least an enemy of the average British family.

Cameron told the Tory conference that “an all-out assault on poverty” would be at the centre of his second term which is interesting as his first saw the growth in food bank usage and in 2013-14, when the coalition’s main tax and benefit changes were introduced and 300,000 more children fell below the poverty line.

Key findings in a report by the Resolution Foundation also estimated that a further 200,000 children, predominantly from working households, will fall into poverty in 2016 simply as a result of the tax and benefit measures announced at the summer budget.

Perhaps when he says “all-out assault” on poverty, he means that they will be attacking the remaining working families that are not yet living below the breadline.

Town suffers heavy loss with passing of deputy mayor LAST week was one of sad news as the town suffered a heavy loss with the passing of Helston’s deputy mayor.

Mark Upton had served on the council for two years but was a familiar face to many through his work in the local community, particularly the Penrose Community Centre and the Epworth Hall where he served as chairman.

The outpouring of

condolences that I read on social media demonstrate how highly he was regarded in the town.

Mark married his long term partner Gary Hunt last year and although diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, the end was unexpected but I hope his family and friends take solace that his suffering is at an end..

Sailors build lasting links with Helston nursery FOUR Members of 824 Naval Air Squadron took time out of their busy training schedule to answer a call of assistance from Nansloe Nursery in Helston.

As part of a refurbishment of the outside area at the nursery, the RNAS Culdrose Personnel worked tirelessly to create a permanent playhouse for the children. The structure has been weather proofed to make it accessible all year.

Nansloe Academy’s head teacher Charlie Field said: “I think it’s wonderful what

the Sailors have achieved.

We have very strong connections with Culdrose and many of the children come from service families. I’m very proud of our links with the air station and our support network through the HMS Heroes scheme, which brings us all much closer together.”

Lieutenant Martin Gilmore, organiser of the work party said: “Nansloe School supports many local Culdrose families, so it has been a pleasure to assist in this small building project.”
