Artwork made from storm defences to be auctioned THE PUBLIC will be offered the chance to own a unique piece of Porthleven’s history at an auction of artwork created out of damaged harbour baulks. More than 80 artists are involved in a project to raise money for the Fishermen’s Mission following the destruction of the port’s harbour defences in a storm in 2014. The wooden baulks, each weighing two tonnes and bolted together, were smashed by the power of the sea. The Porthleven Baulk Project was formed to turn the broken baulks into almost 200 pieces of art including sculptures, mosaics, engravings and ceramics. The items will be sold at an auction at the Atlantic Inn on March 18 at 4pm in aid of the charity. Images of the artwork will be projected on February 5 - the anniversary of the storm - on Porthleven’s Clock Tower February 5 from 6.30pm. For more information visit fishermensmission.org.uk/ porthleven-baulk-auction.
