Buzz around bees at Godolphin AN ENTHUSIASTIC group of bee conservationists are aiming to get the public buzzing at an event this month.

Bee enthusiasts can get up close and personal with bees and hives at Godolphin House on February 19 from 2pm to 4pm.

Visitors will be treated to a tour of the hives and can take part in a Q&A session at the Apple House in the grounds. The session will be hosted by Bob Black from the B4Project, a group dedicated to the protection of the UK’s native dark honey bee.

A BUTCHER in Helston has helped light up the town by making a donation to The Helston Christmas Lights Committee.

Staff from Scorse Foods Ltd at Water-Ma-Trout in Helston decided against swapping Christmas cards and presents last year and instead raised £150 towards Helston’s Christmas Lights Fund. The cheque was presented to Robert Williams, Chairman of the Christmas Lights Committee.

Mr Williams said: “Thank you to all at Scorse Foods for this generous donation. Our funds are low at present so this will boost the kitty nicely.”

Pub landlady takes on Dry January challenge

A LANDLADY in Helston has joined the latest craze and ditched alchohol for a month in aid of charity.

Emma Ealey, landlady at The Rodney Inn at Meneage Street, joined an estimated four million people in the UK who pledged to detox after Christmas and quit drinking for Dry January. Running a busy bar throughout the month was a tough choice for the publican, yet she was able to celebrate after raising more than £800 for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Teens target sports clubs and post footage online THE IDENTITY of vandals targeting Helston’s Cricket and Rugby clubs has been discovered after the geniuses posted videos of themselves inside club buildings on social media.

Both clubs have suffered at the hand of vandals in recent months and were left to pay for damage caused by the culprits.

I recently spoke to representatives from each club who explained how the offenders had kicked-in doors, broken tables and chairs, left evidence of drug taking and smashed glass while leaving broken shards on playing pitches used by youth teams.

Last week one vandal was

caught ripping off pieces of the score hut roof. When confronted, he shouted back: “I am 14. What are you going to do about it?”

The youths shared videos from inside the Cricket Club score hut on the messaging app Snapchat, and also left sarcastic comments on social media reports on some incidents. The disdainful act demonstrates a complete disregard for authority with no fear of repercussions or punishment.

Following a complaint, police officers found the group inside a shed at the Rugby Club and a search revelealed a quantity of drugs on the 14 to 18 year olds.

Anti-social behaviour warnings were issued with further enquir-

ies being conducted.

On the same day as these dreadful acts, I watched these same youths smash a bottle on the floor outside Tesco supermarket before arguing with a passer-by who asked them to be more thoughtful.

Three days later, I watched a member of that group collide with - and almost knock over - a middle-aged woman at the store.

When asked to be more careful she was told to “f*** off”.

All doors are base coat treated but must be protected with at least two further coats of micro porous treatment both sides immediately upon installation.

Falken starts the 2019 anniversary season with a new racing car

FALKEN Motorsports is starting the 2019 racing season with a new Porsche 911 GT3 R, which will be used alongside the proven BMW M6 GT3 at the Nürburgring. With the racing cars from two premium car manufacturers, the Japanese tyre brand is continuing its successful 20-year commitment to motorsports on the Nordschleife.

The new generation of the Porsche 911 GT3 R,

based on the facelifted Type 991, still has a six-cyl-

inder boxer engine with 550 hp and even better aerodynamics. Falken 300/680R18 tyres provide even

more grip on the front axle, while the rear axle is still fitted with 310/710R18 tyres.

The driver line-up remains almost unchanged.

The Porsche is driven by the two Austrians Martin

Ragginger and Klaus Bachler, who are supported by

the Porsche factory drivers Dirk Werner (GER) and Jörg Bergmeister (GER). At the wheel of the BMW,

Peter Dumbreck (UK) and Alexandre Imperatori

(SUI) will be taking turns with the two BMW factory

drivers Stef Dusseldorp (NED) and Jens Klingmann

(GER). The new Porsche 911 GT3 R will make its racing debut on 23 March 2019 at the first round of the 2019 VLN Endurance Championship.

The buggy is back – and now it’s electric!

VOLKSWAGEN is bringing a legend back to life! At the beginning of March, the Wolfsburg-based Group will reveal the first fully electric version of a new buggy. “A buggy is more than a car. It is vibrancy and energy on four wheels. These attributes are embodied by the new e-buggy, which demonstrates how a modern, non-retro interpretation of a classic can look and, more than anything else, the emotional bond that electric mobility can create,” states Klaus Bischoff, Head Designer at Volkswagen.

The concept of the fully electric buggy is based on the historical predecessors that found their home in California. Back then, the chassis of the Beetle served as the basis; now, the MEB is proving to be just as flexible. True to the original style, this reinterpretation of a proper buggy has no fixed roof or conventional doors, while the free-standing wheels fitted with offroad tyres and open side sills dominate the overall look.

The latest one-of-a-kind model, the fully electric concept buggy, will be revealed for the first time at the 89th International Geneva Motor Show (7 to 17 March 2019).

Suzuki voted best manufacturer feature at Motorcycle Live for second year in a row SUZUKI’S restoration of the G-54 – the precursor to the iconic RG500 Grand Prix machine – at Motorcycle Live 2018 has been voted as the best manufacturer feature at the annual motorcycle show, the second time Suzuki has won the award in as many years.The bike was restored to working order by former Grand Prix technician Nigel Everett with the help of Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme. There was also assistance from Barry Sheene’s former technician Martyn Ogborne on weekends.
