Greek Art Vs. The Mural Of Iphigenia

There are many ways art can be depicted and done. Every culture usually has their own unique sense of style when it comes to art. Art can be abstract, naturalistic, idealism, realism and etcetera. Art is a good way to capture different cultures, rituals and history. There are some similarities and differences between each culture s art. Especially when it has to do with different time periods. Two cultures that have major differences in art are Egyptians and the Greeks. You can see these differences in the mural of Iphigenia during the Greeks Hellenistic era and the mural in the Tomb of Queen Nefertari in Thebes, Egypt. The mural of Iphigenia, is located in Tauris Pompeii. This mural was depicted in the Hellenistic era, which dates around... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Queen Nefertari s tomb is considered to be the largest in the Valley of the Queens. It is located in Thebes Egypt and was painted around 1260 B.C. During this era, art in Egypt consisted of the portrayal of gods and about the deceased in the afterlife. This mural depicts a god and a deceased. Also one of the major techniques in art in Egypt was the usage of hierarchical proportions, which symbolized power in paintings. Usually the Pharaoh or someone who holds some sort of power was painted bigger than any other person in the illustration. In this mural the artist did not use this technique; both of them are the same size, which indicates that they both hold certain importance in the drawing. One was a Queen and the other is considered to be a god. The mural is painted in a profile view, with only the right side of their bodies being fully visible. We are able to see both of their arms, shoulders, hands and feet. The color pallet that is used in this mural isn t very warm, it has more of a harsh tone to it. The artist used a lot of bright and dark colors. The skin tone of the Queen and the god do not seem really naturalistic. Especially the facial features do not seem realistic. This painting would be considered to be more abstract than any other style.. The lines are very thick and dark, which causes one to see the outline around their bodies and facial features. The lack of shadows has made this mural to not have any drapery and any depth. There is no folding of their clothing. What they are wearing is drawn very flat, but with a great amount of patterns. In this painting the artist used a great deal of patterns. You can see different usages of patterns starting from the bottom of the painting till the top of the painting. What the queen and the sun god are sitting have the same pattern. It has three different colors in it black green and red. There are patterns on the queens

The Magician s Nephew Research Paper

The Magician s Nephew The Magician s Nephew is an amazing story written by C.S.Lewis. He was a famous writer, and he wrote the Chronicles of Narnia. These books are based of the Bible, and Aslan, a strong lion, is God in Narnia. This paper will be uncovering the similarities, differences and viewpoints about God and Aslan.

Aslan has many similarities with God. In the Magician s Nephew, Aslan created everything in Narnia (Lewis 123). God created the Earth and everything it contained (Genesis 1). They both created and rule over the worlds. (Lewis 9 10), (Whole Bible). Another trait they both have is they are merciful (Lewis 12 13) (Bible).

Although Aslan and God are similar, they are also very different to. God created everything... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, Gods creatures do not talk, except for the humans (Genesis). Aslan chose special animals to talk and to have great minds (Lewis 9). Aslan created every animal, but he never created humans as God did (Lewis 9 10), (Genesis). In the book, Aslan did make two humans rule, but he did not create them, they came into his world (Lewis 11).

Now the viewpoint, and the answer for me is yes, I do believe Aslan is God. One reason I believe is that there is actually a song that sings God is like a lion, (Newsboys song). I also believe this because in The Magician s Nephew Aslan quotes, You know better than you think you know,... (Lewis 11). This is proving to me that Aslan is God. I have one more reason; Aslan is a lion. (Lewis 9). In the Bible, God is referred to as The Lion and the Lamb , or

Notes On Retrieval Induced Forgetting

Retrieval induced forgetting

Roll Number: 21 MA I

University of Mumbai

Department of Applied Psychology and Counseling Centre

Abstract

Using the retrieval practice paradigm (Anderson, R. A. Bjork, E. L. Bjork, 1994), it was tested whether or not retrieval induced forgetting could be found in item recognition test in terms of RT and accuracy. In this experiment retrieval practice on items from semantic categories depressed recognition of non practiced items from the same categories reflected in terms of RT and accuracy. Also the results are consistent with the hypothesis that the accuracy in recognition of rp+ (Practiced items from practice categories) items will be highest followed by nrp (Unpracticed items for the unpracticed categories) items and lowest for rp (Unpracticed items from the practiced categories) items. The reaction time in recognition task will be lowest for rp+ item followed by nrp items and highest for rp items.

Introduction

Memory is power in which the mind stores and remembers information. Memory is a process in which information is encoded stored and retrieved for later usage. Forgetting is an apparent loss of information already encoded and stored in an individual s memory. It is a spontaneous process wherein old memories are unable to be recalled from memory storage. Active forgetting can be stated as an evidence for functional inhibition as a source of one s memory failure. (Anderson, 1994). There

Ppd-21 Critical Infrastructure Security

PPD 21 establishes national policy on critical infrastructure security and resistance. The directive mentions 16 critical infrastructure sectors vital to the integrity of the U.S. system and their associated Federal Sector Specific Agency (SSA). Nevertheless, PPD 21 demands a shared responsibility among the Federal, SLTT, and public and private owners and operators of critical infrastructure. Resiliency, in the context of CIP, consists of the ability to minimize the impact of a disruptive event, whether in magnitude, impact, or duration p.12. As 85% of CIKR resides under the control of the private sector, government leaders must ensure private operators and stakeholders participate in protection initiatives, which can be accomplished by

Speech On Oral Piercing

Body piercing may sound like a new age art but the truth is that we have been practicing it for centuries. Have you ever realised that even your earring hole is a form of body piercing? It is the most common form of body piercing practiced. In India, women routinely pierce their nostrils too. Instances of body piercinghave been found in the Bible as well as in Egyptian Mummies.

Body piercing is the piercing of a body part in order to wear jewelery in the opening created. Does that sound crazy? For millions of teenagers and even older people, it is the biggest fashion accessory. People may undergo piercing for a number of reasons. While the most popular reason is aesthetics, sometimes people may pierce for religious, cultural, or sexual reasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ask for studs in the lip to be placed in a neutral space along the lower gum line. This will prevent damage around the mouth area. Tongue piercingneeds to be angled such that they do not catch in the palate on the roof of your mouth or the sublingual web along the bottom. Acrylic rather than metal jewellery is considered safest for the mouth region. This is because metal can easily chip teeth and cause injuries.

According to the Association of Professional Piercers, when properly performed, an oral piercing procedure will last only for a few seconds and involve no bloodshed or swelling. People with oral piercings are advised not to share plates and other eating utensils. Though the mouth is exposed to a variety of germs, the saliva has several antimicrobial factors that can easily defend you against these pathogens. However, if you go to an unsafe clinic or you default on your aftercare, there can be severe complications. Pain and bleeding, infections, dental and heart problems, injury due to swallowing the jewelery, drooling, and bad breath are some of the risks. The American Dental Association is against oral piercing and deems it a public health hazard. Some gruesome photographs only intensify the

Analyzing The Movie Grease

For this discussion form/MLA, I had chosen Grease because I consider it as a classical film with Hollywood style to it and the storyline takes place with wonderful talent in the film. The movie Grease was the most successful movie musical of all time back in 1978. This movie was released June 16, 1978 and the director was Randal Kleiser. The genre was comedy music/Teen film. The Cinematic style is exactly what people would have expected from this movie. In the first dance scene when the whole Grease cast was singing Summer Nights the camera was shooting the scene in a far distance/Close position. The movement of their dancing made it more realistic than regular movies. I chose this film because I think it s interesting for my peers to read... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People getting together by having love, adventure, and friendship in high school has been seen before. It begins with starting out that the two couples have already known each other before school. The two main characters start off by describing each other in the beginning of the movie in a song that represents the activities they have done together to their friends. Then soon figure out that one of another has changed by pretending to be someone that they are not to impress their friends. This movie presents high school lifestyles of teenagers discovering true love, comedy, and learning new experience. The Importance Of Kidney Cancer In Australia

INTRODUCTION

Kidney cancer is a metabolic disease; comprised of several cancers in the kidney, each with a different histology and clinical course (Linehan, 2011). Kidney cancer occurs when abnormal kidney cells uncontrollably proliferate, developing into aggressive tumours that may metastasize to other parts of the body.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

In 2013, kidney cancer was the 9th most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, producing 3,059 new cases of kidney cancer, in which 1,987 were male and 1,071 were female (Cancer Australia, 2017). Kidney cancer accounted for 2.4% of all cancer diagnoses in 2007, making it the 8th most common cancer diagnosed in Australia. Renal cell carcinoma(RCC) is the most common lethal lesion in the adult kidney, accounting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Smoking is a well established risk factor for RCC which can be reduced after smoking cessation for more than 10 years (Hunt JD, n.d.). Cigarette smoking increases the risk of RCC through chronic tissue hypoxia due to carbon monoxide exposure, as well as evidence displaying high levels of DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes with RCC patients (Qayyum, 2013). Obesity and long term hypertension have an interesting association to the increased risk of kidney cancer in that obesity is a risk factor for high levels of blood pressure; increased pressure of blood movement damages the endothelial cells of the arteries, thus representing a shared causal mechanism due to rising levels of blood pressure (Sanfilippo, 2014). Obesity itself is associated with increased glomerular filtration rate and increased renal plasma flow, rendering the kidneys more susceptible to kidney damage and carcinogenesis (McTigue, 2014). Specifically, in women, excess body weight has been recognized as a general risk factor for RCC, with obesity estimated to be causally related to over 25% of US kidney cancer cases (Bergstrom,

Responding to Emergency Services

Emergencies like earthquakes and floods cause more harm than others and are more visible than others. Larger scale incidents are known as major incidents whilst smaller ones are known as smaller incidents. Smaller incidents can still be classed as an emergency. The government defines an emergency as an event or situation that threats a person safety, property or war and terrorism that threatens serious damage to the security to the county. This is defined by the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. All emergency incidents are graded by experienced call handles.

The Police, Fire and Ambulanceservice and duty bound to respond to all emergency incidents because they all gave different responsibilities and roles to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many emergency call centre staff work within the control room of the emergency service. They deal with both emergency and non emergency calls from members of the public. They have to identity the needs of the callers, by listening and asking effective questions, so that an assessment of the urgency of the call can be made. This is done because the most suitable course of action has to be taken. Depending upon the nature of the call, the call handler will be responsible for a number of things such as ensuring an effective use of resources, directing emergency services to deal with the incident, ensuring response times are met, directing non emergency calls to the appropriate telephone number or agency, maintaining contact with the incident team to monitor the progress and safety of the team, ensuring communications with the emergency services are kept open and liaising with other organisations as required.

All call handlers work under the supervision of team leaders and incident managers. An incident manager is also responsible for liaising with other organisation like local authorities, utilities companies, local transport companies, Environmental Agency and any other agency in which the services will need to provide an effective and efficient response to an incident. When attending an emergency incident, all emergency services have different policies and procedures that they have to follow.

British Imperialism In Finding The Elephant,

Orwell begins the story by claiming his perspective on British Imperialism. He says that it is evil and he is fully against the oppressors. Though he is actually a British officer himself he feels hatred and guilt towards himself, his empire, and the Burma people. Talking about his thoughts and feelings toward Imperialism gives deeper meaning to the rest of the story as it highlights why he dislikes it so much. He already establishes the fact that his character is weak since he lets the Burma people laugh at him and play him for a fool. The build up of finding the elephant is a metaphor in itself showcasing the destructive power of imperialism. Orwell uses other metaphors when he compares himself to being a magician about to perform a trick, or the lead actor in a piece, an absurd puppet or a posing dummy, holding the magic rifle . I like to think of this story as a lesson to learn from. This story clearly states that people will do anything to avoid being embarrassed. We should be open to other people s opinions but follow our instincts and not let others make decisions for us. This story is also teaching us to look at the pros and cons of a situation very carefully. As I was reading this I realized this is a very deep truth to rationalization and the impact that peer pressure has on your decision making process. No matter who you are or what you do, every single human on planet Earth cares what people think especially when it s thousands and they have the power to make

John Lewis Turning Points

The Turning Points of John Lewis Life In the book March: Book One and Two, the main character John Lewis takes part in the civil rights movement in 1960 s. While it s true that many events in his life did not increase his devotion to the civil rights movement and religious beliefs, I believe that John Lewis s beliefs and determination were reinforced by the turning points in his life. I believe the gift of his bible helped him grow stronger in religion, which helped him bring a sense of connection to the civil rights movement through Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. s words. Through that he started going to nonviolent workshops where he learned more about nonviolent protests, which started him on the road to joining the civil rights movement. This eventually pushed him to join the freedom riders. While growing up, John Lewis led a fairly simple life. He grew up on a chicken farm with his mother, father, and his brothers and sisters. His first time really getting into religion was when his Uncle gave him his first bible for Christmas when he was four .His mother would read it aloud to him. He said, I ll never forget my mother reading aloud to me the first words of that book, In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth, . (Lewis and Aydin 1:26). When he turned five years old and learned how to read on his own, he began reading the bible all of the time. He began to preach to his chickens every night, and even gave his chickens his own version of a baptism. The more he did this, the more he realized that he wanted to become a preacher when he became an adult. One morning in 1955 John Lewis was listening to the radio when someone unfamiliar came on. He continued to listen to the sermon, this unknown person was giving, feeling like it was directed towards him. He had felt personally touched by that sermon, and caught the name for the preacher at the very end. The radio announcer says, So thank you, and again, you just heard Martin Luther King Jr. (Lewis and Aydin 1:55). After that, he began to take more notice about the world around him. Blacks were not treated as equals in the south. This started him on the path of wanting to do things about the civil rights movement. John Lewis became

increasing their relative wage rates (Figure 1). At the same time, this benefit may be partly offset by the popularization of education and the high incentive, i.e. higher wages, to become skilled labor, which will increase its supply and thus, decrease its wage rates. Luckily for them, the net effect is still positive, probably because the rapid growth of production offshoring outpaces the growth of skilled labor. A typical example comes from Mexico. In Figure 2, we can see that from the mid 1960s to the mid 1980s, there was a continuous decrease in the wages of Mexico s skilled labor relative to unskilled labor. Feenstra explained that this might have to do with the increase in the supply of skilled labor during these two decades. But since
