Dark Sky Night Observation

In this Observation Report, I will be discussing the technology and sights I encountered throughout both the Dark Sky Night, and the 1st Quarter Night. Explanations of both the astronomical instruments as well as visuals will be provided. All of the information and opportunities were provided to me by Austin Peay State University, with instruction by Dr. Buckner. The First Quarter Night was focused more on the technology and instruments used to view and document targeted subjects in space, whereas the Dark Sky Night focused more on the viewings. Throughout this observation I will reintroduce the telescopes, aids, and celestial objects I examined through Dr. Buckner s instruction on observation nights. I attended Austin Peay s 1st Quarter Night on February 15, 2016. On this day, we had approximately four telescopes set up with three I managed to catalog, and were introduced to a variety of extension and aid devices. Among the telescopes I documented I was able to record... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Among these are star maps, planispheres, filters, and various photographical devices. Starting with planispheres and star maps, these are used to aid in manual telescope operation. The last telescope I discussed was a reflector telescope that used an Alt Az mount, meaning locating celestial objects relies fully on the operator s ability to use maps and star guides so get a lay of the land, or sky for this matter. Looking at the sky isn t near as easy as it may sound. Much like how the Earth is covered in seventy percent water, the night sky is mainly stars. Without proper synchronization with the night sky, you can be off in your observations by a long shot. Planispheres come in different editions depending on which hemisphere you reside in. Stars positioning and celestial objects available for observation can also change depending on your latitude, time of day, and also time of

Several choose to go with traditional wooden cabinet style vanity. For people who do not want to store anything under the sink a pedestal sort base to hold the sink may be a good option.

The Presidential Election Day Falls

The Presidential Election Day falls on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November every four years in the United States. However, when Election Day is over the people are not who have done the electing. In the United States, citizens elect the president not by a popular vote but through the Electoral College. The Electoral Collegeis comprised of five hundred fifty three electors. There is one elector for every state senator and every member of the House of Representatives per state as well as three electors from Washington, DC. (Khan 2014) The political parties choose the electors. Most of the United States has adopted the winner take all system; this means the candidate who has fifty one percent or more of the votes then... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The president elect takes the oath of office and is sworn in as president of the US on January 20 in the year after the election. (Office of Federal Register 2014)

As a citizen of the United States we go to the polls and vote for the electors of the candidate we want as president...or do we? (Office of Federal Register 2014) Four times in the history of elections in the United States has a candidate has won the popular vote but lost the election due to the electoral vote. The first time was in 1824, when Andrew Jackson won both the popular vote and the electoral vote, however because in the four person election no one won a majority of fifty percent in the electoral college, this allowed the House of Representatives to chose the winner...choosing John Quincy Adams who came in second behind Jackson in both votes. The second time it happen was in 1876, when Samuel J. Tilden won fifty one percent of the popular vote and Rutherford B. Hayes only won forty eight percent, the electoral college vote was 184 185, and a special electoral commission picked Hayes over Tilden. The third time was in 1888, when Benjamin Harrison won the election over Grover Cleveland with 233 electoral votes even though he had the lower popular vote. The fourth and most resent time was in 2000, when Al Gore won the popular vote, but George W. Bush won the Electoral College so won the presidency. Another discrepancy that has happen is the electors whom are supposed to vote in agreement with

Research Paper On Milton Friedman

Introduction

Many people want consumer protection by the government. A much more urgent problem is to protect the consumer from the government, is a familiar quote to any economist that was stated by Milton Friedman. He was one of the most significant personalities in the resuscitation of classical economics in the last half of the 21st century. Various awards such as the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences and the Presidential Medal of Freedom bagged by Friedman in 1976 and 1988 respectively are a clear indication of his great contribution to modern economics.

Milton Friedman is considered to have played several roles in the intellectual life of the 20th century. He was a policy enterpriser, who spent decades pushing for the policy known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In 1958, economist A.W. Philips stated that unemployment and inflation had a correlation from the past in that low inflation was associated with high unemployment and vice versa. Friedman contradicted this view in a presidential address to the American Economic Association by saying that even though the correlation was visible in the data, it did not represent a true trade off especially in the long run. He argued that there is always a temporary trade off between inflation and unemployment but never a permanent trade off. Only temporary success would be achieved through a policy to generate higher inflation to curb unemployment as it would finally pick again, even as inflation stayed high.

The 1960s saw Friedman author a book titled Capitalism and Freedom, where he advocated for freely floating exchange rates, education vouchers, and abolition of licensing doctors, a negative income tax, and a volunteer army among other things. The book created a cause for relatively free markets to a larger audience that encouraged the younger generation to take economics

Marilyn Monroe Life

Most actors are seen to have perfect and balanced lives, but others have had to overcome challenging times and obstacles. Marilyn Monroe had many challenges throughout her life that she had to overcome. Norma Jean (Marilyn) grew up without a family or a supportive mother, her acting career was continually off and on, and she had a rough personal life and history. Marilyn had a pretty rough time growing up, but she managed to fight through it all. While Marilyn was growing up she didn t have a family, and she didn t really have a mother. Marilyn s mother is Gladys Monroe Baker. Her mother lived in an institution for most of Marilyn s life because she had mental breakdowns. Marilyn s biggest fear was that she would one day end up in an institution just like her mother did. Throughout Marilyn s life she was put into twelve different foster homes. One time her foster parents were leaving to travel to California and she didn t want to be put in another foster home so she got the idea to get married. Not only did she stay in foster homes she also stayed in an orphanage a few times. Marilyn had a hard time adjusting and getting used too moving from one family to the next. According to her... During her career she had bounced between many record labels. She had a period in time where she didn t have an acting job for over a year. After nineteen films she had finally gotten her own dressing room. Marilyn had been an actor for about sixteen years. Victorian London

The diagram is a depiction of loading a skipper, a small boat designed to deposit and withdraw cargo from a large ship able to traverse large sea, whilst navy officers, distinguished by their blue coats, are recording the results. I picked this diagram to use and relate to commerce, because the strength in London trading lied in several aspects that are represented in the presentation. This has clear implications and can be used to give analysis on commerce in Victorian London. In order to demonstrate this, I would like to focus on three specific objects, and how each of them relate to commerce, within the diagram: the containers that are being loaded, the sigil in the middle of the picture, and the officers in the picture. The barrels that are being used contain various items judging from the different types of containers. The explanation of the diagram does not go into detail about what is in these containers, but notes that they come... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This is the sigil that represents the City of London, which is the inner and distinct city, similar to the relationship of Vatican City and Rome. There are two important things about this fact: the first being that the City of London is the epicenter for international trade and commerce and the relationship between commerce and the picture indicates that the cargo is inspected there. The City of London is the area in London where commerce and trade were negotiated; this is in part due to its own tax system that tries to incentivize working their; the museum included the detailed sigil then to demonstrate the importance of commerce on the City of London. Another reason this sigil is included is because, until the 19th century, The Port of London handled all shipping. The creators of the diagram, then, wanted the museum goer to recognize the importance of commerce upon the City of London by including this

Essay on Comparison of Monsson Wedding to Heat and Dust

Despite differing in form, the film Monsoon Wedding, directed by Mira Nair and the novel Heat and Dust, by Ruth Prawler Jhabvala, have many similarities. Both of these texts convey an Indian world and the people in it.

Monsoon Wedding is a party arthouse, party Bollywood film which dealswith the leadup to the wedding of two young people, Aditi and Hermant. It combines their story with that of Aditi s father, Lalit, and his family responsibilities, as well as the events occurring in the lives of their servants, Dubey and Alice. This combining of multiple storylines into one cohesive narrative is one of the characteristics of Bollywood films.

The title of the film refers to the monsoon, or rainy season, in India. The majority of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Through the portrayal of these events Nair has also shown the pressure of the family responsibility placed upon Lalit, When he learns of Tej s past attacks on Ria, we see that he is torn between keeping up appearances of family unity and doing what he knows is right. This culminates in Lalit kicking Tej out of his home after the formal photography session where Ria, ironically, is asked to pose at Tej s feet.

In the scene where Lalit is overwhelmed by the responsibility placed upon him, and goes to his wife, Pimmi, sobbing, the depth of love between them is apparent. This portrayal of different types of love is another major feature of the film. At the beginning of the film, Aditi is in love with Vikram, a married man, but throughout the film, she is able to distinguish between purely physical love, and the deeper love she later feels for Hermant. She comes to this realisation when Vikram abandons her in a potentially dangerous situation to take a phone call from his wife.

Heat and Dust deals with how India is viewed by Europeans visiting or living there. It tells the story of Olivia, who outraged society in 1923 when she eloped with an Indian Nawab, and her step granddaughter who travels to India 50 years later to try to find out more about Olivia.

Like Monsoon Wedding, the title of the novel uses natural aspects of India as a metaphor for life in the country. The heat and the dust of India are almost unbearable, especially

Amazing Grace by Jonathan Kozol

At first glance and after reading through Amazing Grace, it seems that Jonathan Kozol is going to take us on a journey through the lives of the underprivileged, but similar to the ones you read about, or hear in the news. However, this is not the case; the real underlying theme seems to be how the life and society they live in is very alike to a life in a prison, not because it talks explicitly about prison conditions in this area, but also because their lives are portrayed as being a prison. Kozol uses the views of children and adults throughout this book to emphasize this theme through their living conditions and personal lives, background and struggles. Kozol writes about the trials and tribulations of everyday normal life for the people who live here. Normal for them, however, is quite different than it is for most of us. Living with drug dealers, pollution, poor hospital care and an awful education system, not to mention the social system of the city, is the normal for them. In his interviews, even with the children of this overlooked neighborhood, we find that the children speak honestly and freely about their feelings. Forgotten, hidden, abandoned, are just some of the words that come to mind. One boy named Malcolm X wears his hair in a style referred to as 25 years to life . His sister asks Like in prison...? This is how you want to wear your hair? His reply You don t have to be in jail to be in prison . This is just one of many examples given to show the

The Defiance Of Gender Stereotypes

Naomi Mash

Mr. Cole

Honors English III

15 October 14 The Defiance of Gender Stereotypes in Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby Throughout the 1920 s, before Women s Suffrage, women were viewed as inferior, as well as subordinate to males because of many years of patriarchal dominance. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds, The Great Gatsby, women are seen as lesser by the male characters, yet show a great sense of power and domination over the actions and storyline. The major plotline of Gatsby s love for Daisy and the American Dream circulates around the mere factor of the power women have over men. Fitzgerald s portrayal of women parallels with the 1920 s societal reflections on how men are viewed as dominant, whereas women are treated as second class citizens. Daisy, Jordan and Myrtle are portrayed poorly through their insouciant view on the world, objectification by their male counterparts and their narcissism, but defy the stereotypes of the 1920 s.

In The Great Gatsby, the characters, male or female, let their narcissism control their actions and get the best of them. Daisy is shown to care more about herself than her daughter, flaunting off the child as an object of, not pride, but a reflection of herself. Daisy remarks, All right...I m glad it s a girl. And I hope she ll be a fool that s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool (Fitzgerald 21), showing that she is aware of her own narcissism and marginalization, yet how she chooses to

Assassin s Creed Essay

While it does not come out until December, Assassin s Creed is one of the most anticipated films of the year. According to the Director Justin Kurzel, they tried to film As much as possible in reality. This means less CGI and more real stunts. In the recently released stunt featurette entitled Assassin s Creed: The Leap of Faith, we get to see idea first hand.

In the movie, Michael Fassbender s character Callum Lynch / Aguilar is trapped a must perform a Leap of Faith from 125 feet off the ground. Producer Patrick Crowley stated that normally this would be done with CGI, but Damien is the best, so we will do it for real. Says Crowley. The Damien he is referring to is Damien Walters, who stunt doubles for Fassbender in the film

In the video below, Walters and the crew discuss and then Damien executes multiple falls from various heights starting at 70 ft, then 90 ft and finally performing the tallest at 125 ft. The bag Walters landed in is 10m by 10m or roughly 32 ft by 32 ft. The free fall is also one of the highest performed by a stuntman in almost 35 years. What is the highest? 1981 s Sharky s Machine starring Burt Reynolds holds this honor. Stunt Legend Dar Robinson fell 220 feet from the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta.... While there will still be some CGI in the film, showing real stunts not only makes it more realistic for the audiences, but also employs stuntmen and women to do these feats.
