The fight for net neutrality has begun again with the FCC attempting to repeal the net neutrality act protected under Title Two. what exactly does that mean? Net neutrality is where an internet user has total unrestricted access to all internet content, and where big companies, such as Verizon or Comcast, are legally unable to control or regulate what someone can access. Furthermore, they cannot restrict access to specific content simply due to the fact that they disagree with the message that is being sent. This has been an ongoing battle, with one side voting against net neutrality, as they believe it to be exactly what everyone needs and the other seeing it as a breach of their right to freedom of speech. Federal Communications Commission, otherwise known as the FCC, voted two to one in May of 2017, to begin the tearing down of the net neutrality law (Rushe), that which protected individuals from companies that purposefully slowed down service lanes so as to regulate what was being broadcasted across computers. Chief internetofficial Ajit Pai at the FCC stated that he believed that the dismantling of the net neutrality laws could pave the way for a more competitive marketplace, that which would lift heavy handed internet regulations that overly restricted internet providers (White). The repealing of net neutrality seems to mainly garner approval from big companies, such as Verizon, and more recently, Comcast, companies that would do well by the repealing of such a law. With net neutrality gone companies such as those listed above would be able to, legally, regulate and control what people saw on the internet by slowing down or speeding up lanes depending on the affiliation the company has with that specific website (Finley). However, even with Title II in effect, some companies have found a way to circumvent those rules in order to play favorites as it were. For instance, when AT T customers access the Direct TV s streaming service they may find that the data extrapolated from the service used did not count towards their current data limit s (Finley). It is also believed that with no regulations in place regarding net neutrality, companies have the potential of becoming dictators and blocking
In this movie it is very revealing that the characters feel as if they are totally limited by the amount of money that they are worth, so their perspective on being successful and widely known is predominantly based on their financial status, and/or worth. The story that this movie carries along with it portrays what can happen when social classand money come into act. The movies setting takes place approximately around the early 1900 s. During this time frame, people were focusing on trying to live the American Dream, and the dream illustrated how easy it is to lose contact with the important things in life, and how people are bound to make it to the top. The Great Gatsby is a movie where each character s sole purpose in life is prosperity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their characterizations are so pessimistic that it is easy to overlook the socioeconomic realities that dominate their lives. George and Myrtle are opposing stereotypes of a lower class couple. George wants the best for him and his wife, and his dream is to earn a sufficient amount of money to live some place better, through the help of Tom Buchanan. Myrtle s intentions are quite different. Instead of moving away with George, she wants to be a women/member of the upper class. She does this by having an affair with Tom, who was her key to the top. Little did she know that her affair with Tom, would terminate in her fatality, and leave her husband s life
Contractualism, in general, is whether or not an action is deemed right or wrong can be understood in terms of contracts, and is furthered with the theory of social contract. Additionally, contractualism can be distinguished from Hobbesian contractualism (also known as contractarianism) and Kantian contractualism, whereby the former looks to contracts made by individuals of a society for the sake of personal gain and benefit, while the latter sees to contracts made by individuals of any given society that consider each other and themselves to be free and equal members of State. The theory of the social contracthas existed for the longest time, it speaks of an agreement (or agreements) made by the members of any society and community to give up certain individual freedoms for the betterment of that society itself, i.e state protection and security.
Firstly in history, power was to reside in the country s monarch, as it was divinely ordained. Over time, however, there was a need for more justification for where power over the state laid other than just simply being divinely granted or ordained . Thus, during the Siècle des Lumières, England a country that has for the longest time had a monarch in power (admittedly of which the very same monarch still exists today) entered great political, administrative and constitutional change where England was entering a transformation becoming a modern State. It was during the Siècle des Lumières that the idea of social

On December 6, 1865, the 13th amendment of the Constitution was ratified, abolishing slavery in the United States. This change was just one start to the continuing uphill battle against racism, but the end of one that had caused millions to suffer at the hands of others. On the other side of the coin, on August 6, 1945, president Truman made the decision to drop the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, obliterating the city and killing hundreds of thousands of people. As demonstrated by these two separate events in history, change and actions have the possibility to be positive or negative. Ernest Hemingwayhighlights this point throughout his stories when writing about death, a topic that is usually seen as negative by putting it in a more positive light. Ernest Hemingway uses animals to symbolize death, and does so by utilizing cowardice, weakness, and shamefulness. In The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , Hemingway uses the lion to represent the death of cowardice. Choosing to indulge their freetime on a safari, Francis Macomber and his wife Margot take a trip to Africa, but when faced with the task of ending the lion s life on the safari, Macomber s mind seems to be getting the better of him: [H]e pulled until he thought his finger would break. Then he knew he had the safety on (14). Even though he is successful in shooting the lion, Francis still cannot let go of his cowardly behavior. His
Science should be taught as a verb as well as a noun. Performing science is a compelling as well as an effective way to learn. It is through the process of exploration, creation and invention that theories are applied, ideas are tested and knowledge is synthesized.
Much of what discussed in the paper is to have an understanding of gases in the atmosphere, factors that affect the properties of these gases and so the laws of gases which help to do so. Now why do we need to study these laws? Because gases compose our atmosphere. These are responsible for the process without which no one can survive i.e. breathing.
Atmosphere is a gaseous envelope surrounding the earth. It is made up of a combination of water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important things about gases is that, despite wide differences in chemical properties, all the gases more or less obey the gas laws. The gas laws deal with how gases behave with respect to pressure, temperature, volume and amount. This uniformity of physical behavior was of great interest with early scientists. It is one of the dogmas of scientists that the behavior of a material is a reflection of the particles that make up the substance. In other words, differences between solids, liquids and gases reflect the movement of the small particles that compose all matter. This assumption is part of the Kinetic Theory Of Gases (Kinetic is from the Greek word for motion). Historically, the description of the gas properties has been summarized by the mathematical equations describing the relationships between the gas volume, pressure and temperature. These equations, named after the scientist who first demonstrated their validity, have been labeled the gas laws. These gas laws are best understood within the framework described as the kinetic theory of gases: Gases are composed of molecules.
These molecules are in constant motion. This is why gases mix to uniformity and fill all portions of the containment vessel.
Molecules of the gas collide frequently with each other and with the walls of the containment vessel. Under ordinary circumstances, the distance between the gas molecules is far greater than the size of the individual

Among the selection methods used by the industry to select staff, the traditional approaches seem to maintain their predominance over more sophisticated techniques. The psychometric paradigm can be adopt in THL industry during selection by select the right candidates based on assess individuals against the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) that required for the particular job. As shown in the film, Wonka only wants a child who shares the same belief and value with him to be the successor and he only employ the squirrels to work in Nut Room because only the squirrels can get the whole walnuts from the shell. THL industry can also practice the same by select the candidates that have the ability, skills and knowledge to perform the job. As an example, hotel should only employ one who has the knowledge, skills and ability on finance to fill the finance manager
must be obeyed (p.280). Collectivist societies include a built in hierarchy, each position within the society is preordained with little to no wiggle room. In the case of Stalin, he ensured there would be no question of his authority by surrounding himself by subordinates who served him (did as they were told and served a purpose within his regime) and those subjects who may have questioned him feared him for those who offered the slightest bit of opposition were executed or exiled. However, there were those who loved him. Strong and Killingsworth (2011) quoted Kornei Chukovski (1936) as writing in his diary the following excerpt:

One of Stalin s tactics to establish his social power was through manipulation and control of the media (Strong Killingsworth, 2011, p. 407). Stalin seemed to be quite skilled in his use of the media to portray the image of himself that he wished his followers to see. News articles were written in such a way to cause people feel as if Stalin was synonymous with power. All of this media manipulation cemented the growing bond between Stalin and his followers making them love him all the more (Strong Killingsworth, 2011, p. 407). Thereby exerting his social power through literature and by using the manipulation of media created a God like image of himself that his followers loved and adored. Certain individuals believe that it is unimaginable the atrocious acts a dictator will orchestrate to ensure the submission of his followers to his rule. Leading them to wonder why people follow dictators? In the book, The Psychology of Dictatorship by Fathali M. Moghaddam (2013), the author addresses several aspects as to what it means to live under a dictatorship. The first point of interest is how individuals tend to assume the worldview of their particular culture (p. 47). Shiraev and Levy (2013) explain that when this happens, it is called groupthink (p. 283) within a dictatorship, each
You can tell there is inequality in this world just simply based on the word mankind . I am sure almost everyone in the world has been impacted by some sort of inequality/ abuse of power in the world. Inequality can occur when a population of any kind does not maintain a common status, or could also be a difference in power between individuals. Inequality can take place anywhere at any time, and has been a major problem in the worldtoday. Some people may not care about this, some people really express their feelings on this subject, but some people just simply don t know much about the subject. Inequality can happen anywhere from your own home to globally all over the world. Back in my hometown, Medford Massachusetts, I work at a local popular sub shop. This sub shop has people coming from all neighboring towns just dying to try one of our famous subs. I work here as a chef with a small crew of around 6 total workers who are all very close to each other. I have been working here for a while, and I have seen workers come and go, but the one thing I realized is that I ve never seen/heard of a girl working here before. I figured I would bring this topic across to my boss, Joe. My boss was sort of looked at as a local hero. He was always quick to crack a joke with his workers, and even his customers. He was overall a hilarious, hardworking man who was great to talk to. He invented the famous sub called the bboy back in 1976, which is ham, sausage, bacon, 2 eggs, cheese,
We are able to manipulate the power of fashion to shape our identities. Makeup and fashion are forms of self expression, that show who someone is and who they want to be. When people meet, their first impression is largely based on their physical appearance. Finding our own styles can take a long time to develop, but it is key to finding ourselves as individuals inside and out and will help us to be comfortable in our own skin.
Society has distorted the idea of beauty and has made us believe there is only one way of dressing, doing our hair and makeup. Most of us are oblivious to the meaning of fashion, and that meaning is whatever we want it to be. Fashion is for ourselves, to represent ourselves. It is an exploration of our identities through experimentation with different styles. If someone wants to stand out, they can experiment with wearing clothes nobody else would think to wear. Halloween isn t the only day of the year we can dress up as whoever we want. I admire the actress Yara Shahidi and her style. The same way dressing up as a spy for Halloween makes someone feel like a spy, dressing in Shahidi s style almost makes me feel like my favorite actress. Taking inspiration from others helps to create stepping stones to figure out our own styles and identities. For decades, beauty magazines have been telling us the do s and don ts of fashion. We are assigned fruits that relate to our body types. If someone is just as wide as they are tall, they re an apple. They
My mind was moving too fast. It was as if it was waiting patiently for the call to end to pounce. I was in the living room of my home peering through the window, mesmerized by the little flourishes dancing from the sky when I got the call. My thigh jiggled as my phone vibrated on my lap; it was a call from my mother. It was supposed to be like any other call. I would answer, we would talk, and it would end with I love you and I would go on with my day. Only this wasn t any other call. On November 9th, 2013 I heard the greatest news and it was on that same day, I was confronted by my worst enemy. The phone call ended, and my joy was soon turned against me. I was too distracted to notice that this joy was merely heartache in disguise. I would have never in a million years believe that something so cruel could bring forth someone so beautiful. It has been four years since the attack and yet, I have not forgotten and I doubt I ever will. My day was absolutely perfect, it was like no other. In hindsight, I would say perfection is wishful thinking. Anyways, I remember I was sitting on the couch and steering through the window where I noticed the ground was hidden by a thin layer of snow and vibrant leaves. Inside I was protected from the wintry grip of the fall breeze and I could not have gotten any happier. My phone rang; it was my mom. With a broad smile, I answered the phone and upon saying hello she asked me to go somewhere private. Hurriedly I made my way to the bathroom
In the 2012 NFL season, NFL teams drank 1,800,144 bottles of Thirst Quencher. Gatorade had been in football since the athletes were doing strenuous exercises, they continually battled dehydration in the Florida heat (Wickford). Our bodies sweat system relies on salts to pump water onto our skin to evaporate and cool us off (Wilcox). But is Gatoradeas healthy as they make it out to be?
Gatorade says that their drink was born in a Lab (Jim F). In early summer of 1965, a University of Florida assistant coach sat down with a team of university physicians and asked them to determine why so many of his players were being affected by heat and heat related illnesses, (Gatorade). They soon discovered two key factors that were causing Gator players to fall apart: the fluids and electrolytes the players lost through sweat were not being replaced, and the large amounts of carbohydrates the players bodies used for energy were not being replenished (Gatorade). The researchers then took their findings into the lab, and made a new, precisely balanced carbohydrate electrolyte beverage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Sports drink is full of sugar, doing more harm than good. If someone drank Gatorade when they are not doing anything to make them sweat, it is getting them fatter. Christie Wilcox explains this is her article, Sports Drinks: More Harm Than Good?, If your goal is to lose weight, drinking calories is like shooting yourself in the foot (Wilcox). If someone does not work out at a high intensity for a long time, they do not need the extra calories. So sports drinks are not for the casual exerciser, while taking a ten minute treadmill run or jog around the block. However, if someone is doing strenuous exercises for a long period of time, sports drinks can be highly beneficial. In fact, the Houston Texans drank 88,224 bottles of Thirst Quencher throughout the 2012 NFL
Assessment in Mental Health Counseling The day that we come into the world, we start to develop pieces of a personal puzzle that throughout the rest of our lives we attempt to fit into our individual and unique puzzle. As time progresses, we seem to find that some of the pieces may fit very well into place, but we also find that some of the pieces are hard to fit into place, even when we try to force the piece in its place. In fact, some may say that when we try to force pieces into our personal puzzle, it can result in lifelong challenges unless we seek someone who can help us fit them into the right place in the puzzle instead of trying to force them into place by ourselves. Luckily, there is someone who can help. That someone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All assessments will differ depending on the personal issues the client may be dealing with. The practice of assessment consists of collecting important information about the client that can help him/her, but the main goal is to have a valuable understanding of all that s discussed between counselor and client. A counselor must continue to grow in the assessment process whether he/she is just getting into the field, or have been in the field for many years. The assessment process does start right from the first visit with the client, but that does not mean that we ever stop assessing our clients throughout the length of the therapy process with each client. An assessment must be considered an essential process to all parts of the counseling techniques in mental health. Whether the counselor practices in a school environment, a private practice, agency, or any other mental health setting, the assessment needs to play a vital role. Assessment involves knowledge with identifying statements and actions, and collecting what may be needed in order to grasp what will truly help counsel all clients, whether the therapist is counseling an individual, a group setting, couples with marriage issues and other complications within a relationship, and other family issues, understanding assessment will instill a continuous improvement in every counseling setting CITE
The historical site I selected as the subject of my study was Stones River National Battlefield. This paper concerns my experience researching the site, in addition to my experience visiting the site. First, I will explain my reason for choosing the site. Second, I will discuss preparation for my visit. Third, I will give a description of the site. Fourth, I will explain what makes the site historic. Fifth, and finally, I will discuss my impressions of the site. A number of years ago, I performed for the Williamson County Historical Society in Nolensville, Tennessee. The primary speaker at the event was Larry Hicklen, owner of the Civil War relic store Yesteryear, which is near Stones River National Battlefield. He was discussing Nolensville s involvement in the Civil War. He encouraged me to visit his store, as well as the battlefield. Unfortunately, as a college student, my free time is limited. Therefore, I found few opportunities to visit either location. I took this assignment as a chance to visit the battlefield, having previously been to the Carter House, the Hermitage, and Sam Davis Home, being well familiar with the last of these locations due to my having performed Civil War era music there numerous times. I was, unfortunately, largely unfamiliar with the events of the Battle of Stones River, despite being a lifelong resident of Rutherford County. I searched for information about the battle in four different American history books in my possession, two of which
