There are several differences in themes, writing styles, and conclusions found within historical British plays, in particularly the plays of Everyman, The Second Shepherds Play, Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, and Marlowe s The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus. These plays reflect many of their times heated topics and concerns. While the endings to each of these plays significantly contrast, the themes within each play fully prepare audiences for the ending to which will be further explained. Of these plays, Everyman and Doctor Faustusare perhaps the most similar, yet the most contrasting. While both appear to explore the subject of death, the act in which they come to their conclusions differ greatly. For instance, Everyman tries repeatedly to convince company to join him on his journey to death, while Faustus always has company attempting to persuade him away from his evil deal with Lucifer or vice versa. As they approach the ending, the stories become opposite as they were in the beginning. Everyman eventually finds his company, while Faustus must face the consequences of his deal with Lucifer all alone. The ending of Everyman leaves the audiencewith a peaceful feeling, knowing that they too can be accompanied at death by doing good deeds. However, The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus leaves the audience with a tragic, morbid ending as they watch him join Lucifer, alone and in despair, regretful of his deal. Shakespeare s Twelfth Night and The Second Shepherds

East Los Angeles College Student Analysis

Although named East Los Angeles College(ELAC), ELAC is actually located in Monterey Park, California. Monterey Park is located 30 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles, and has the largest concentration of Chinese Americans in the US. I was raised and born in Monterey Park and when I graduated high school, I enrolled at the local community college. Two years of working as a tutor at the ELAC Writing Center taught me the importance of literature and teaching literature. As a tutor, I learned the necessity to analyze, assess, and appeal to not only the studentbut their learningneeds as well. Most importantly, I learned that before a teacher can impact their students they must understand the student s environment.

Throughout my educational career, I have been taught English from a dominant perspective that ignored issues of class, race and gender. I have witnessed many students, including myself, become disinterested in great works because there is no personal connection to the texts. My hopes are to widen the paradigm so that more students can become interested in English and see how reading, analysis, and writing can develop not only one s understanding of their society, but also themselves. I acknowledge that every student works and thinks differently; therefore, it should be the teacher s responsibility to provide necessary resources that will develop each individual s their composition skills accordingly. I often tell myself, I am teaching for the students who do not want to be there in the classroom . With disengaged students in mind, I want to push myself to provide a learning experience that is pluralistic, informative and inspirational. Teachers should see their role not as expert, but as someone engaged in reciprocal learning and dialogue with students. To appeal to disinterested students, teachers must explain how writing and rhetoric is necessary in all fields by explaining how English cultivates strong communication skills, which are necessary in everyday life. A teacher s goal should be to motivate students to begin a personal exploration toward effective, ethical

How Digestive System Work Together

The digestive system helps the humans break down food and turn it into nutrients. The digestive system is made up of a lot of different organs such as salivary glands, pharynx, mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine, and pancreas. Salivary glands produce saliva, which keeps the mouth and other parts of the digestive systemmoist. The pharynx role in the digestive system is to connect the nose and mouth to the esophagus. The mouth is used for putting in food and also eating the food. The esophagus has only one function and it is to carry food, saliva, and liquid. The stomach receives the food from the esophagus and secretes acid and enzymes that digest food. The liver regulates the composition of blood,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Do Consequences Depend on Motives in Julius Caesar by...

An American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr once said, All human sin seems so much worse in its consequences than in its intentions. In this statement, Niebuhr exclaims that the consequences of a situation are undeniably much worse than the motivation of one s instigation of their actions. This applies to the intentions and, more importantly, the consequences of the characters in both the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare and film Wall Street: Money Never Sleepsdirected by Oliver Stone. Even though some people have honorable intentions and mean no harm, the consequences can still be disastrous. In much the same way, those with fraudulent intentions also suffer in the end. Situations like these can be accurately viewed through both the play and the film. The characters Brutus and Jacob Moore have no other reason but to act in a worthy way. While Cassius and Gordon Gekko have deceptive intentions, consequences incur similar to Brutus and Jacob Moore. The intentions may seem like the most important consideration in a decision, but, in reality, the penalties can be the same no matter what the motives are. A motive to kill one s best friend requires deep thinking and a reasonable intention. Brutus, Caesar s best friend, has taken into consideration why he thinks killing Caesar is necessary. Although Brutus is Caesar s best friend, he has to come to conclusion that murdering him is his final decision when he asserts, Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome

Caring Moments Essay

CARING MOMENTS

The caring project our group chose involved taking a test. We felt test day was an unusually stressful event for everyone. We wanted to come up with a caring way that would help to alleviate some stress on our fellow students, the faculty, and ourselves. We decided to hand out peppermint candy on test day to help stimulate brain function. we felt this might help us all do well. We also talked to everyone and wished them well on the test which was a good way to help relieve stress. It also gave us an opportunity to meet some of our fellow students that we had never met before and it helped to ease the stress we all were under. We also passed out the peppermints to the faculty as they needed a stress reliever on test day too. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then we will endeavor to speak with that person every time we see them. Our class is so large and there are so many students we don t know. There could be someone out there who could use a friend and one of us just might be that friend. We believe you can never have too many friends. The second caring act we plan to implement is sending e mail birthday cards to our fellow classmates. Birthdays are important and we want everyone to know we are thinking of them on their special day. The third caring act we plan to implement is the continuation of the peppermint and words of encouragement before a test. We felt it was a big hit and everyone enjoyed it. To provide caring moments for our nursing faculty we decided to implement these three acts. First to send e mails of encouragement to the faculty members. We as students are so quick to complain. We forget how much time and effort it takes to prepare a class lecture. Along with preparing our lecture, the instructors must be able to answer questions, as well as keep the class under control. There time is also spent in conferences with students as well as registering them. We felt it would be nice to send words of encouragement to the instructor who teaches each lecture. Just a note to let her know we appreciate all her efforts. The second is a biweekly snack for our faculty. Every other Friday we will bring in some kind

Was Lizzie Borden Innocent Essay

Was Lizzie Borden Really Innocent The number of kids that kill their parents is unbelievable. They usually have a motive. Lizzie Borden didn t. She didn t know why she did it. The Borden case was a very gruesome case. For example, their heads were bashed with a hatchet. Andrew Borden had a cut that extended the length of the nose. He was found lying on the couch with blood on his shirt. In this case, his wife was murdered as well. She was murdered in the bedroom by several hits in the back of the head. The back of her head was hit nineteen times. In conclusion, the bodies were so damaged that they were at first unrecognizable. Just because someone is found innocent in court, doesn t give an absolute elimination of guilt. For example, Lizzie was imprisoned for ten months in Massachusetts. She got released on her court date because the jury believed her attorney. Now the case is back in the spotlight due to newly found documents. Essay On Concert Appreciation

Intro and Appreciation of Music

30 March 2017

Concert Report On Tuesday, March 28th, 2017 at 8:00 P.M., The Emerson String Quartet performed three pieces of classical music at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California. The Emerson string Quartet is a professional string ensemble that performs classical music and consists of four adult males; Eugene Drucker on the violin, Philip Setzer on the violin, Lawrence Dutton on the viola, and Paul Walkins on the cello. The Concert opened with String Quartet in F Major by Maurice Ravel. The piece was divided into four movements. The first Movement, Allegro moderato Très doux, sets the tone for the entire piece. It opens in a warm, inviting tone played by all members of the quartet. Then, it immediately leads into somewhat of an exciting climax, with the first violin taking control and the other three instruments playing similar harmonies, but quickly the music quiets. This same, quick intensity transforming to a slower, quiet melody is continuously repeated throughout the entire first movement. The second theme presented in the opening ... Having never attended any classical music concerts before, I had no idea what to expect. While I was most likely the youngest person there, and most certainly unfamiliar of concert etiquette, I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. While the Emerson String Quartet played three different pieces and all of them were incredible, I chose to focus my report only on the first piece, String Quartet in F Major , and its different movements. I found this piece to be the best piece of the night, possibly because of its continually changing sounds and powerful climaxes, or possibly because it was the first time I had experienced a quartet live. Either way, I loved this piece and the way every movement was unique, but united by repeating the same themes from the first

The Development Of Byzantine Architecture

Byzantine architecture is directly related to imperial traditions, to the Christian life and culture of the Romans. A typical feature of Byzantium is the diverse ethnic composition that includes Greeks, Thracians, Armenians, Syrians, Copts, Jews, Avars, Slavs and many others. This diversity of peoples and cultures influences the overall development of Byzantine architecture. Christianity is an important element shaping the overall appearance of the Byzantine culture.

The light enters through the windows under the dome and illuminates the central ship and the bridal space. Procopius explains the impact of the architectural space on the light: The spherical dome, thanks to the light, does not seem to stand on solid foundations, but seems to hang on a gold chain from the sky. In this way one can best describe the beauty and grace of Byzantine architecture. Byzantine architecture has undergone three stages in its development: In 313, Christianity was officially recognized. By 326 this was the official religion of the Roman Empire. The boundaries of the Empire were from Milan and Cologne on the west to Syria on the east and to Greece and Egypt on the south. The new religion requires all ceremonies to take place inside the temple, which necessitates the increase of space within the temple. This created the need for a new architecture. This function took the basilica.

The basilica is a rectangular building divided by rows of columns of sodium, five or more longitudinal ships,

Notes On The s A Jelly Bean

Assorted

Growing up, I loved Jelly Bellies. The colors, flavors and seemingly limitless combinations had me captivated for hours on long road trips as my family moved from state to state. Almost without thinking, I would sort them. Blues and greens, browns and beiges, whites and blacks. The problem with this sorting came when I would pack all of one color into my mouth, and that with a handful of cherry flavored beans, I d get an unfortunate cinnamon taste.

I learned early on not to judge a Jelly Bean by its color, and that it was an unrewarding practice to group together these individual candies because when not every bean fit into a color category, I forced it to. The same can be said for people. Each and every one of us are unique individuals, and it is virtually impossible to effectively sort us into groups even more so as our society progresses. Identifiers such as race, religion, sexual orientation even gender which we once used to group people together, now make up the many cracks in modern American society. It is this action of separating the Red Jelly Bellies from the rest that creates an almost immobile American mindset: you are a Red... you must be a cherry. While many choose to label this phenomenon as the fading issue of racism, the simple fact is that our obsessive desire to sort has instead resulted in a plethora of other social divisions. Apart from race based discrimination, we have also fabricated

Examples Of Personal Philosophy Essay

Personal Philosophy Life that has been lost cannot be brought back. That very truth is what shows us the meaning and value of living Value is both immeasurable and measurable at the same time meaning it is something you can t put a number on but feel within your mind. Value is only measured truly once the object or person is lost. Once something is gone you finally realise how much that object or person meant to you, which is when the eyes of the community can see the worth of the person in their life. Value is one of the aspects of life that is seemingly uncontrollable, an emotiononly controlled by the eyes of the community. Value is an important part of life because it gives us a purpose to live, it reminds us that there s an end to life and that we are all mortal, it is a constant thought that never really... Title: The Ultimate Guide To Owning Kids? Camp Insurance

Tis The Season

It?s that time of year again. The weather?s getting warmer, the days are getting longer, bugs and critters are coming out of hibernation, and your child is anxiously looking at the clock, counting the seconds as they tick by. School?s almost out and summer is right around the corner, which means that camp season is almost here. If you?re a parent, you?ve definitely heard of summer camp. You?ve seen the signs for summer camps ?enrolling now!? in the springtime, and you?ve been researching all the kinds of summer camps offered in your area, whether they?re outdoors or sports ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

That doesn?t mean you shouldn?t send your kids to summer camp out of fear for their safety. Your kids deserve the fresh air and sun, the exercise and adventure, the chance to make new friends and discover new things. And as a parent, you deserve some peace, quiet, and time alone with your child out of the house. But you can?t truly enjoy that peace and quiet and time alone if you?re constantly worrying about your child?s safety and wellbeing while they?re out having fun in the sun at summer camp. There is a lot of intense physical activity during kids? summer camp, especially for sports camps, and being out in the outdoors can have its risks, whether its taking the wrong step during a hike and taking a nasty tumble or being exposed to harmful plants and wildlife.

According to the American Camp Association, or the ACA, over eleven million children attend summer camp every year in the United States. Forty seven percent of these camps are resident or overnight camps while twenty eight percent are exclusively day camps. As for programs, eighty seven of camps offer recreational swimming, sixty seven percent offer camping skills, forty eight percent offer climbing or rappelling, thirty eight percent offer horseback riding, seventy eight percent offer teambuilding exercises (which usually involve an outdoor ropes course), twenty three percent offer farming, ranching, and gardening, and twenty eight percent offer wilderness trips. Analysis Of Samuel Taylor Coleridge s Kubla Khan

Experts widely regard Samuel Taylor Coleridge as one of the few major leaders of British Romanticism. His poems, both individual works and collaborations with another Romantic leader, William Wordsworth, are proof of this. His works incorporated ideas that are often found in Romantic poetry, such as a reverence for nature, emphasis on emotion and imagination over reason and logic, and other themes that contradicted thinkers of the Age of Reason. Coleridge assisted in the change from Enlightenment ideals favoring rationality and deduction to a thinking with your heart style. Coleridge had a strange childhood as the last of ten children and largely isolated from the world, and therefore had few companions other than the books he so loved to read. This exposed him to the ideas that eventually made him into the renowned Romantic poet readers view him as today. Coleridge s upbringing in 18th century England and close association with other poets, including the co authoring of Lyrical Ballads with William Wordsworth , helped form his worldview and poetic style, evidenced in his poem Kubla Khan, which in turn shaped English Romanticismand the way readers would look at poetry forever.

One of the largest influences on Coleridge was his unusual adolescence and the people he met, as a child and later on. It is said best as, For Coleridge, childhood is the shaper of adult destiny (Gradesaver). The youngest child of ten, he had his father die when he was not even nine years
