Rhetorical Analysis Of Steel

On April 10, 1962, the United States steel companies decided to raise the price of steel by 3.5 percent during one of the nation s most traumatic wars that affect the veterans still to this day: the Vietnam War. To put things in perspective, steel prices have effects on nearly everything, such as the cost of homes, the cost of appliances, and the cost of building infrastructures. President Kennedy had been calling for stable and affordable steel prices for a long time at this point in time; however, the steel companies still raised the price. The day after the increase in steel prices, President Kennedy held a news conference to call out the steel companies. In this news conference, President John F. Kennedydelivers a speech that employs several rhetorical devices, specifically repetition, ethos, and pathos in order to incite the audience to protest against the steel companies; which would, in turn, inflict pressure on the steel companies to lower the cost of steel. Throughout his speech, Kennedy utilizes a rhetorical device called repetition. Kennedy applies this strategy when he states, ...It would make it more difficult for American Goods to compete in foreign markets, more difficult to withstand competition from foreign imports and thus more difficult to improve our balance of payment positions... (Ln. 35 40) The evidence clearly represents repetition because the phrase more difficult repeats exactly three times. Repetition enables Kennedy to provoke urgency by repetition of the same phrase with regards to convincing the audience into exhorting the steel companies. Then, Kennedy further employs repetition when he expounds on the problems already existing in America, and now the steel companies add on to the stress by increasing steel prices. When he says, ...when we are confronted with grave crisis and Berlin in Southeast Asia, when we are devoting our energies to economic recovery and stability... (Ln. 6 9) Kennedy repeats the phrase when we are in order to allow Kennedy to persuade the audience to protest against the rise in steel prices so that the steel companies lower the price of steel. The audience will then see that the hike in steel prices will affect them, which would then produce in them a

At the end of the day people in both countries want to have a government that represents the needs of the people. The want to feel included in the decisions that make up their country. But one thing I would say that sets United States political culture from Latin America is that the United States has more educated people which allows more people to understand and get involve into politics. Latin America doesn t have a strong education system like America which leaves most of their people unable to read or write. You can t get really involved in politics if you don t know what s going on in your country. The United States also has the luxury of not worrying about political rivals killing our president just to come into power and start a dictatorship. While countries in Latin America must fear that happening way more than we have to. In a way, we have been spoiled by the fact we have a democracy and some people don t even bother into checking on the government that helps run the country. So even though both countries political cultures have differences they have many similarities as

The Equal Pay Act (

Equality Is Coming

Until the Equal Pay Act (EPA) of 1963, many women were paid less for doing the same work as men. This division of wages often caused hardships and bitterness forcing women to work more hours on a weekly basis in order to make the same amount of money as their male counterparts. In order to understand the impact of the Equal Pay Act, you must first understand its purpose, the benefits, and also consider the negative effects.

The act caused a maximum amount of the women to get paid a similar amount of money as men did. It depended on how much the women worked and if they worked the equal amount as the men. The act caused the pay gaps between men and women to drop majorly. The EPA of 1963 states that gender difference should not cause the women to be payed less than men if they are doing the same job. The employer must pay the women and men in the same job, the same amount of hourly pay, hours they work, and the conditions of work (The Equal Pay Act of 1963). EPA of 1963 was signed into law on June 10,1963 by president John F. Kennedyas one of the first federal anti discrimination laws that had postmarked the wage difference based on the

The largest independent membership organization available exclusively to NPs is the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Besides being a full service national organization, it also certifies NPs nationally. The AANP represents all NP specialties and advocates for high quality healthcare services for patients and their right to obtain such services from their provider of choice. One of the most significant functions of the AANP is its involvement in advocacy and government affairs. Over thirty laws benefiting NPs and their patients were passed with the support of the AANP over the last two years. The AANP has a dedicated federal staff that works with national policy stakeholders, regulators, members of Congress, and federal agencies to enact laws ranging from admitting privileges and appropriations to prescriptive authority. (AANP, 2015a). At the local level, there are organizations acting on a smaller but more personalized scale by providing opportunities for relationship building among colleagues. For instance, the South Florida Council of Advanced Practice Nurses (SFCAPN) is a local assembly of NPs that through collegial relationships provide mutual support, share updates on clinical knowledge, and provide networking opportunities for its members. (SFCAPN, 2015). Core Competencies and Certification Requirements The curriculum for nurses in advance practice requires that every APRN is academically prepared by adhering to the seven core competencies

Lorraine Hansberry Biography Essay

Born on May 19th, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, Lorraine Hansberry was one of four children. The granddaughter of a freed slave, and the daughter of regular NAACP, Hansberry grew up understanding the importance of civil liberties for minorities. In 1938, her family was violently attacked after moving to a white neighborhood. They refused to move out, and later were a part of the Supreme Court case Hansberry v. Lee, which determined that it was illegal for landowners to place restrictive covenants on their property. After briefly attending college, only to drop out and move to New York, in 1950, Hansberry became the associate editor of the black newspaper, Freedom. Hansberry quit her job in 1956 to pursue her writing career full time. In 1957,

The Manchurian Candidate by Johnathan Demme Essay

The Manchurian Candidate, Johnathan Demme directed the remake. Both films portray paranoia, mind control, and conspiracy. Frankenheimer utilizes satire, humor, and symbolism to convey the themes, whereas, Demme uses modern fears, camera angles and focus, and mental illness to achieve similar results. Many of the elements of the 2004 remake have been modernized. While the original movie placed the soldiers in Korea, the remake placed them in Kuwait. Demme did changed the location of the war, in order to appeal to current fears and suspicions. In 1962, the threat of communism was at the forefront of everyone s thoughts. However, during 2004, only three years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, citizens were no longer concerned about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film switches between perspectives of the ladies garden party and the communist officials to stress the comic surrealism of the situation. The calm and genteel ladies garden party is a stark contrast to the evil plotting of the communists. Image overlay as well as soft lighting are also used to convey the surrealism and dreamlike quality. The absurd way that Eleanor s husband, Senator Iselin, presents the supposed number (which he is constantly changing) of communists in the state department, satirizes the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Many of the accused communists during the red scare were merely from wild speculation caused by irrational fear and political movements to get rid of the opposition. It was also ironic that Eleanor, who had her husband present the fake number of communists, was actually the communist herself. The role of a mother is also satirized in the film. The 1950 s portrayed mothers as pure and wholesome, however Eleanor is portrayed as the evil and conniving perpetrator of peril. The remake focused on keeping the audience and Major Marco in a constant state of paranoia and uncertainty. In the original movie, the audience is shown, as well as told by the narrator, that the platoon was captured and brainwashed by communists. Whereas, in the remake, Major Marco and the
