International Case : Carrefour Which Way to Go?

How should Mr. Durant assess the opportunities in various countries around the world? Mr. Durant, the new CEO since 2005, embarked on the new strategy by offering 15percent new products in its hypermarkets and 10 percent in its supermarkets. Moreover, he wants to employ more staff, extend the operating hours in certain hypermarkets, cutting prices, trying small stores, and pushing down decision making. Mr. Durant aims to stay only in countries where Carrefour is among the top retailers.

1) The reengineering efforts of P amp;G focused on the business process system. Do you think other processes, such as the human system, or other managerial policies need to be considered in a process redesign?

The reengineering efforts also required restructuring of the organization. P amp;G had been known for its brand management for more than 50 years. But in the late 1980s and early1990s, the brand management approach pioneered by the company in the 1930srequired rethinking and restructuring. In a drive to improve efficiency and coordination, several brands were combined with authority and responsibility given to category managers. Such a manager would determine overall pricing and product policies. Moreover, the category managers had the authority to withdraw weak brands, thus avoiding conflict between similar brands. They were also held responsible for the profit of the product category they were managing. The switch to

Antiphyscotic Drugs Essay

The administration of both typical and atypical anti psychotic medication is associated with the metabolic side effects that include weight gain and diabetes mellitus, with atypical anti psychotics (APPs) conferring the greatest risk.1

AAPs gained much popularity when first introduced due to their extensive spectrum of efficacy and their low risk of extrapyramidal symptoms in comparison to typical anti psychotic drugs.2 They have become the first line of treatment for psychotic disorders however, unlike their counterparts, AAPs have been associated with a greater risk for metabolic side effects.3

Serotonin signaling in the central nervous system produces hyophagia through its effects on the suppression of food intake. The anorexigenic 5HT2C receptor is largely expressed in the hypothalamus, particularly in the POMC neurons of the arcuate nucleus where stimulation of PMOC neural activity via this receptor results in hypophagia and weight loss. 7 5HT is a potent satiety signaler with 5 HT1A and 5 HT2C receptors as the prime mediators of 5HT in regulating food intake. The action of serotonin on these receptors confers opposing results. Binding of serotonin on 5 HT1A increases food intake while 5HT2C decreases it.

Serotonin when produced in the CNS acts as a neurotransmitter, however a large proportion of serotonin

7.2 Group Assignment

Introduction:

Recently, China and Colombia trade relations are stronger than before. Colombian Java International sells their coffee to Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai in China and the rate of export products is increasing. Therefore, our team suggests Colombia exports their products from Tumaco seaport to China s Hong Kong port and Shanghai port by using Maersk Group shipping company and China COSCO company. After the products are arrived in Hong Kong and Shanghai port, we recommend to use S.F. Express logistic company to deliver the products to Guangzhou and Beijing city.

Colombia:

About the Tumaco seaport. This is a good seaport for our plan. Because when we transfer the cargofrom Colombia to Hong Kong. It only crosses the Pacific, and then it will arrive the Hong Kong. Without this seaport, the vessel will cross the Panama Canal. If the company do not want cross the Panama Canal, they will have a pretty long trip to transfer the cargo. About the shortest trip, it has 9209.56 mile (17056.10 km) and spent over one month to arrive. And then, it contains 0 24 Ton lifts, fixed cranes, mobile cranes, floating cranes. Tonalin Cla Research Paper

To understand the true benefits of Tonalin CLA, we must also unlock the mysteries behind CLA itself. To do this, we have gathered below some of the most common questions asked about using Tonalin CLA as a CLA supplement. 1. What is CLA? CLA stands for conjugated linoleic acid . It is a fatty acid known for promoting good health. This was first identified by Dr. Michael Pariza in 1978 while he was studying beef extract as a cancer prevention. What he found instead provoked a surge of research and scientific studies into the benefits of CLA as a fat reducer. After looking at decades of research scientists have found that CLA may in fact help the body to deposit less fat, build more muscle and may even help prevent fat cells from refilling.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is actually found in some of the foods we eat. Dairy and beef products are one of the biggest natural sources of CLA. However, diets have changed over the years and on the whole, we are naturally consuming much less CLA than we used to. Because of this, many are looking to CLA supplement their diets. This is easy to do now that scientists have developed a proprietary process which can convert the linoleic acid of pure safflower oil into CLA. This makes it easy to add a CLA supplement into your diet by taking the recommended daily dose either in capsule or liquid form. 4. What is Tonalin CLA? Tonalin CLA has been clinically tested and is said to be the most researched, highest quality CLA supplement as well as the most effective for both health and dietary benefits. It does not contain any natural or artificial stimulants. Nor does it contain any natural or artificial ephedra. These factors and more have made Tonalin CLA an ever increasingly popular CLA supplement within the weight loss industry. As with any dietary supplement however, including Tonalin CLA, you should always consult your physician first and follow the manufacturer s instructions for taking the recommended daily dose. 5. Are there any side effects of Tonalin

Officials looked into any possible motives despite her parents protesting that, besides her occasional mood swings, there had not been signs or clues to her decision. After going through the teen s belongings, the family found a drawing that referenced an online game called Blue Whale with most of its players from Russia. After extensive research, officials released statements claiming that the game apparently required players to accomplish a variety of tasks over a 50 day time period. The breakthrough role evoked praises from all corners of the world, from people thanking Gadot for empowering women in the media to people advocating for similar movies with females and minorities in the cast. The movement this movie has sparked is relevant for two reasons: one, the role proves that women in superhero movies do not need to be over sexualized or objectified to sell tickets (as evident in previous Marvel/DC movies), and two, representation in cinema proves to successful and prolific. The Bluest Eye And Yasunari Kawabata s Thousand Cranes

Symbols are a primal medium of communication used today and convey different meanings depending upon one s cultural background. Hence, the significance of a symbol is not inherent in the symbol itself but is rather cultivated in society. Both Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye and Yasunari Kawabata s Thousand Cranes explore the significance of such symbols, focusing on the basal reader of Dick and Jane and the ritualized practice of the Japanese Tea Ceremony, respectively. These two symbols, while disparate on the surface, share fundamental similarities and define their roles in the modern world by signifying a departure from antiquated views regarding race and tradition. Not only do both Dick and Jane and the Japanese Tea Ceremony include... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The words which Kawabata uses to describe a bowl used to drink tea brings attention to the elegance of the Japanese Tea Ceremony; in fact, the Oribe was four hundred years old [...] as tea masters have looked after it and passed it down through the centuries (Kawabata 19 20). Tea practitioners must have recognized certain appealing qualities in the tea vessels that deemed them worthy of being passed down from generation to generation. Dick and Jane and the Japanese Tea Ceremony both place emphasis on beauty, with a detailed characterization of aesthetic elements. In addition to a common emphasis on aesthetic appeal, Dick and Jane and the Japanese Tea Ceremony also share a formulaic structure. In Dick and Jane, the stories are depicted in a prescribed manner to only include positive events; for example, Mother is very nice [...] Father is smiling. Smile, Father, smile [...] Here comes a friend. The friend will play with Jane (Morrison 3). Each scene in the children s series takes place during the day, and the sun is always shining, knees are never scraped, parents never yell, and friends always come to play. The author s use of words such as nice and smiling accentuates the structure of the story and how it is one sided. Each page only contained one new word, and on every third page, the new words would be combined, with only five to six new words total (Mancini). Furthermore, each sentence in Dick and Jane is

The Importance Of Religion In Hamlet

The number and variety of religion has so many numerous beliefs and religious practices that people have a hard time to decide exactly on one religion. The main religion that people know and believe is Christianity which practices the belief that there is a god and Jesus Christ. Religion is not really about demanding and making rules on people for what they should do. It is more of different people believing in what they want and then what they want to do with it. Religionis a common thing that is known around the world and to many people. It is also a common reference that people use in books, for example in Hamlet. Religion is an important concept to know on understanding Hamlet better because of the power of their kings, how people based there beliefs on signs and symbols, and the certain symbols that they would use.

The power of the king is similar and different to Hamlet by the ways Claudius was ruling over Denmark. The people would base everything they did off their king and what he did. They believed their king to be their only supreme leader and lord (John). The people thought their king to be the highest ranked person in the kingdom and also in the church. The king also had great power over his people. One of the examples is if the people believed in different things than the king, then they would have to be executed and die. The king was very precise on his people and what they did. They were either against or with him. One very good example that can relate back

The Human Condition Essay

The Human Condition

Does life ever seem pointless and discouraging? In Albert Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus describes the correlation between Sisyphus s fate and the human condition. In the selection, everyday is the same for Sisyphus. Sisyphus is condemned to rolling a rock up a mountain for eternity. Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus forces one to contemplate Sisyphus s fate, how it relates to the human condition, and how it makes the writer feel about her part in life.

Camus states if this myth is tragic, that is because its hero is conscious (Camus). Condemned by the gods, Sisyphus does not acknowledge his fate until after the rock rolls back down the mountain and he Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, he starts to find meaning in his fate, starts to enjoy what he does, almost to take pride in his work, like a true laborer. Thus, Sisyphus is the absurd hero, because, like people he has a goal he believes that he can ultimately accomplish (Camus). He, in his own small way spites the gods by taking delight in pushing this rock over and over again. How might one feel about this essay and her position in life? The writer feels as though life in essence is futile and hopeless (Camus). For example, day after day the writer continually gets up and goes to school. Many will feel disheartened by another day of doing things he or she may not want to do. Nevertheless, one would rather go to school and endure the torture of being in school than sitting at home for hours on end doing absolutely nothing or at a job she may not enjoy. Hence, why students welcome the summer, but after a few weeks they yearn to be in school again or why the depressed are depressed. The writer is no different. One is happiest when there are responsibilities to fill one s day rather than a day without promise.

Life can seem futile and hopeless. However, it only seems that way to people who don t take pleasure in what they do. Sisyphus realizes that if he just sat around all day instead of pushing that rock, he would never

Essay on Girl Interrupted Review

One popular cultural myth about the mentally ill is the archetype of the Sexy Crazy Girl , which we ve seen in movies, comic books, and music. Losing your grip with reality is not a glamorous subject, but that s not what you get from Girl, Interrupted. It is apparent that all the girls in the movie had some type of dysfunctional personality, and bad things happen to some of them, but it just did not seem realistic. First off, most of the patients prtrayed were young, which made the care facility look like a youth home rather than a mental institution. but only the main (well known) stars, (Jolie and Ryder) were focal piont. I ll also note that about half the young girls in the movie, Ryder and Jolie included, simply don t look like girls... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems she s playing nearly the same sexy vixen she s played in a few other films already; just this time, she s in a t shirt, and occasionally gets tied to a bed. It d be interesting to see Jolie really stretch beyond her type; maybe in a Jane Austen movie or playing a nun.

Overall, Girl, Interrupted feels like a movie that could ve been rawer, more intense, and more confrontational... ie, a lot less Hollywood. I found myself wondering what this adaptation of Kaysen s book would ve been like if it had been done on a shoestring budget with unknown young actresses and a fledgling director. Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade, the short filmby Billy Bob Thornton that led to the film Sling Blade came to mind. I m also noticing that that s the 2nd time I referenced another film that is primarily about men, not women. Maybe we need an excellent film about mentally ill young women, and maybe Girl, Interrupted could ve been that film... but it isn t.

Quickly summed up, this film may indeed be compared to a female version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, except where that film was a rebellion tale, Girl, Interrupted appears to be more about self discovery. Though this film has been long in development, and many actresses vied for the leading role, the casting call was even more crowded for the supporting roles. In particular, though I haven t yet read the book, and so I don t know the

Columbine High School Research Paper

The subject of student rights has caused a lot of confusion and anger for decades now. There are two different sides that everyone seems to fall into. Some people want the constitutional rights of students to be fully protected within the school. The other side believes that, as a public institution, schools should regulate what is said or done by students to protect everyone involved. This is where it gets confusing, because it is hard to draw the line between what is allowed or not. The three most interesting topics that I chose to cover are a student s right to free speech, religion within the school and student privacy. One of the main issues is a student s right to free speech. This was brought to everyone s attention back in 1943 in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ever since the first school shooting, a lot of people have changed their beliefs on this subject. I was in eighth grade when the shooting at Columbine High School took place. Before that shooting, I never would have considered something like that happening. Now, it is seventeen years later and school shootings almost seem like an everyday thing. That is sad, but it is true. This is why I believe a student should not have a high expectation of privacy while at school. The law used to be more lenient, but these circumstances have changed that. Right after Columbine, a lot of states had a zero tolerance law. According to the Center for Public Education site, this law said that if a student was caught with contraband they were given a strict punishment, no matter what the circumstance was. The laws have changed some over the last few years, and are not quite as strict as that. The schools still have to ensure that every student is safe, though. It is common for schools to have metal detectors or bring in dogs on a regular basis. Once they have a reason to suspect a student, they have the right to search their belongings. I believe this is well within their rights as administrators who are trying to protect the school as a whole. I realize that students may feel violated, I have been there. It was always an inconvenience to have to sit outside the hallways while the dogs searched each room. I never felt like it was wrong when they did find something though. So many students would bring large amounts of drugs, guns and knives to school. If it weren t for the measures that the school took they would just be walking around with these items. I hope these laws never change, and my kids have the same protection that I did. I would hate to imagine my child going to school with guns and drugs within an arm s reach. I believe the issue of student s privacy is one that many people can agree with each other on.

An Antisocial Behavior Disorder ( Aspd )

Psychopaths and sociopaths combined make up 5% of the general population. Chances are that everyone will come into contact with either a psychopath or a sociopath at least once in their lifetime. An antisocial behavior disorder, also known as ASPD is described as a mental disorder categorized by disregard for other people. Psychopaths and sociopaths both fall into ASPD. Psychopaths and sociopaths obtain key traits in common, but there are very strong differences as well. This character could have gotten away with his crimes but he was not meticulous enough in how he disposed of his bodies and how he picked up his victim. He was sloppy and let his impulses control him, when his lover left him to be with another man he killed his other lover, this was one of the key clues as to how he was identified in the movie. The Effects of Sociocultural Factors on Individuals Essay

Swami Nirmalananda, a disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna, once said Our modern society is engaged in polishing and decorating the cage in which man is kept imprisoned. Society is seen as a cage by many because the cultural beliefs that make up the society are what guide the actions and behaviors of those people within. Sometimes the culture in societies result in helping people develop successfully and positively, but this is not always the case. For instance, societies that were challenged by racism during the mid twentieth century were marked by rage and were the causes of some troublesome lives. Also, after Sonny s mother passed away, it was only Sonny and his brother; however, the two were separated for a long period of time. Having support or being cared for by family members is invaluable, but Sonny did not have this and it ultimately resulted in one of the reasons for his troubled life. In Richard Wright s short storyThe Man Who Was Almost a Man the main character, Dave Saunders, also faces a problem which can be similarly traced to sociocultural factors. While shooting his gun for the first time Dave accidentally shoots his boss , Mr. Hawkins, mule, and the mule dies. The only reason Dave purchased a gun in the first place was to prove to the others in society, specifically those who worked alongside him at Mr. Hawkins plantation, that he was not a boy anymore, but rather a man. While working on Mr. Hawkins plantation Dave is often humiliated by the older workers because they think [he] ain t nothing but a boy (878). Also, the narrator states near the end of the story that a group of people that has gathered around the dead mule on the plantation laughs at Dave as he is walking away with tear filled eyes (886). Once again this emphasizes that he receives no respect from the others. Mr. Hawkins plantation is similar to the social environment in Harlem described in Sonny s Blues . Both
