Gilgamesh Biblical Allusions Essay

The Bible is one of the greatest piece of literature. It is composed of 66 individual books, however it has no official author. The bible was written by different authors within the time frame of 1500 years. The individual books were gradually collected into one. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary literature is a piece of written work that is considered to be very good and to have lasting importance. The biblehas poems, proses, and narratives. It also has a metaphorical way and inability of tracing the reading. It is a subject of more art and theory for those who live within its influence, will ever know. Biblical allusions can propose a degree of seriousness or significance that modern fictiondoes not always support.

The Epic of Gilgamesh has been important to Christians ever since its discovery in the mid nineteenth century. The universal flood with significant parallels to the Flood of Noah s day. The rest of the Epic contains little of value for Christians, since it talks about the typical polytheistic myths associated with the pagan people and believes of the time. However, there were some Christians that have studied and analyzed the ideas of creation and the afterlife presented. The stories that were discovered on tablets Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had great knowledge and wisdom, and preserved information of the days before the flood. Gilgamesh kept a great record in stone of all the things that he had done. Gilgamesh was an oppressive ruler, which caused the civilians to complain to the gods, so the gods created an enemy for Gilgamesh. Enkidu, Gilgamesh s enemy, and Gilgamesh became friends after one fight. After the fight Enkidu and Gilgamesh set off to win fame by going on dangerous adventures. In one of the adventures Enkidu was killed. Shortly after, Gilgamesh determined to find immortality because he feared death. It is upon this that he met Utnapishtim, the character most like the Biblical

In 1946, Churchill delivered speech at the University of Zurich at which he advocated for a United States of Europe . He was convinced that, following the Second World War, only a united Europe could guarantee peace. The ills of nationalism and war mongering had damaged the continent long enough, and his goal was to eliminate them ( Winston Churchill: calling for a United Statesof Europe ). We must build a kind of United Sates of Europe. In this way only will hundreds of millions of toilers be able to regain the simple joys and hopes which make life worth living, Churchill concluded. With this plea, Churchill became one of the first champions for European integration and became a driving force for the concept and a fighter for its cause. The Second World War was a devastating blow to the economies of Europe. Factories were destroyed, infrastructure was obliterated, and agricultural production was put to a halt. These problems could not be easily fixed since most of the nations that engaged in World War II had exhausted its financial resources over its duration. Former world powers like Britain were on the brink of bankruptcy, and inflation and unrest was prevalent. Communism began to benefit from this, as it began to gain more and more support especially in places such as France and Italy. It quickly became obvious that economic support needed to be given to the continent, not just for economic reasons but also to prevent the spread of Soviet Communism.

Internal and External Conflicts Essay

The Scarlet Letter: Internal and External Conflicts

In the novel, the Scarlet Letter, there are four main characters, Hester Prynne, Pearl Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, and Roger Prynne Chillingworth. The story goes; Hester Prynne committed the sin of adultery with the minister of their Puritan Community, Arthur Dimmesdale, the community then condemning her to wear the scarlet letter A for the rest of her natural life. Pearl Prynne being the product of the two sinners. In the moment, when Hester is completing the first part of her punishment, her long lost husband, Roger Prynne Chillingworth, arrives. Not wanting his arrival acknowledge Roger replaces his maiden name for Chillingworth. This situation creates a whole plot of conflicts both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

She was born in a prison, and is being raised in a cottage that is nowhere near the village where all the other children grow up. When people call her such things, she does hear, so this hurts her emotionally and makes this an internal conflict for she must deal with the feelings of being different and judged by others. Since she is isolated from that part of a normal childhood, her only friend in the novel growing up is her mother. This being another internal conflict because she grew knowing her mother always wears the scarlet letter, and is in a certain community that has rules about women. Now in the novel, chapter 17, Hester takes off a garment that covers her hair and removes the scarlet letter from her bosom. Pearl seeing this throws a tantrum for her mother to undo this doing. Causing a major internal conflict of how Pearl sees her mother and dealing with what her mother s symbols stand for. Pearl mocks her mother for that. There s an external conflict created by Pearl towards Dimmesdale for when he is conversing with Hester in the forest and he dwells for a kiss, but Pearl refrains. Pearl is a strange child, for she knows something must be going on. Roger Prynne Chillingworth is the antagonist of the novel. His conflicts would seem different than the other main characters conflicts. For instance one internal conflict of his would be his thoughts of revenge. Chillingworth has this monomaniacal desire for revenge on the unknown father. His plans were

The Problem Of Internet Security

I could now confidently say that the addition of this course Business Computing Environment and Networks to the curriculum has tremendously helped me gain more knowledge about the basics of the Networks, how it is being managed, its security, and also how to be more aware of the problems that are being caused nowadays due to the lack of Internetsecurity. As a part of the learning and to my best understanding from this course, I would like to delve more into the most common internet security problems and how do we solve the business problems through the Internet Security.

As we all know, the word internet itself is a very broad term and the security of the Internet would be the first thing that each and every company has on its mind in order to solve numerous business problems they come across every day and to successfully run their businesses.

As everyone is quite aware of the fact that the Internet itself has never been a secured environment, so every company strives itself hard to take utmost precautions in order to protect their computers or their computer networks which are being connected to the internet globally. One of the major problems that most businesses face these days are more often related to their business security. We all pretty much encounter the problem of our systems being attacked by viruses. Viruses are nothing but the programs that are being developed in order to damage the systems. These either damage or destroy the data on your system or they don t

Asian Community in Modern Day Media

Did you ever really notice how Asians are really been portrayed within modern day media? As a fellow Asian American. I have noticed that the media displays the Asian community in only one way, the foreign genius who excels everything, like kung fu and math. You never really ever get to see a main character, who is a independent, courageous Asian that doesn t know kung fu , in any movie or TV shows. Many actors in modern day media prove these stereotypes to be true such as; beloved actor Ken Jeong, Jackie Chan, James Hong, Lucy Liu, and John Cho. First off, to help prove my point is ,America s favorite comedic actor, Ken Jeong. You never see Ken Jeong ever play as a main characterof any movie. Ken Jeong usually plays as the random minor roll foriegn asian guy who is there to make people laugh. Think about it, in The Hangover Ken plays a foreign asian mobster, in Community Ken plays a know it all Korean spanish teacher, even in Knocked up he stereotypes the Asian job as a doctor that got there because he is Asian. Ken is only the first person amongst the multiple examples. Secondly, Jackie Chan is another actor in which they only play a stereotyped Asian. Sure Jackie Chan play as the main character in a lot of movies, but is stereotyped a lot. In many of his movies he has a particular Asian accent and knows kung fu that is mocked a lot. In movies like; Rush Hour Jackie Chan plays a cop who somehow knows kung fu and every time he says Carter it sounds like he says

Technology And Its Impact On Technology Essay

a. Wearable technology From wearable cameras for personal protection to Apple watches for entertainment and convenience, wearable technology has become a legitimate industry and a commonplace sight in the 21st century. However, wearable technology does not come without its risks for manufacturers and those who wear these devices. When technology is so close to the body there is a much higher risk to cause injury or long term problems to those who wear them. This is where Industrial Systems Engineers can play a big role. Of course ISE s can keep the manufacturing processes for these devices lean and in control; that holds true for almost all manufactured goods. But what can ISEs contribute to the design processes of these devices? The difference maker for ISE s with wearable technology is that they can oversee the human factors aspects of these devices. The same safety knowledge ISEs apply to workers in the manufacturing environment can be applied to the end consumer in this industry. As can be seen in the FDA s diagram below, all aspects of the human technology border must be considered in order to create a safe product (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2016). Fig: Human Factors Considerations (Source: http://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices /DeviceRegulationandGuidance/HumanFactors.htm) The skill sets within human factors depend on what kind of wearable technology is being designed. For example, if the product is Google Glass (an augmented reality capable pair of glasses

Pros And Cons Of Genetic Engineering Of Human Embryos

Should we allow genetic engineering of human embryos?

Genetic engineering is a technique that has been used more and more in this generation. It was first successfully used in 1973 and since then it has become more and more popular everywhere. With its rise in popularity it has also raised some red flags. People are starting to question how morally okay it is and since genetic engineering has been used on humans now too, it is a question that many want an answer to. The actual definition of genetic engineering is the ability to manipulate the genes of an organism to produce a given protein or obtain organisms that have a given trait. A lot of people are not sure what human embryos are either, but an embryo is generally considered to be what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The possibilities for applying genetic engineering to change the human genome are immense. There are genes that offer protection against diseases such as cancer and acquired immunodeficiency virus (AIDS), genes that code enhanced senses and intelligence, anything we can imagine. For example, many animals have skills we do not possess like limb regeneration. With this being a possibility to get at on a trip to the doctor s office many people that have lost limbs whether it was while out in war of because of a disease would get the option to get the limb back if their parents had inserted the limb regeneration gene in them when they were still a fetus. If a gene against cancer or AIDS was inserted into humans when they were still in fetus form, the world would have less health problems to worry about. Also, it may be possible in the foreseeable future to go to the doctor and have a gene inserted that gives rise to a stronger immune system and this could also be done to fetuses. Imagine inserting that gene into your future child so that when they started to get sick in the future they would not have to worry too much about it because it was already taken care of when they were still forming and their immune system is strong enough to combat most diseases. Everybody hates being sick so this would be one of the best things because they would recover faster than people do

Training and Development for a Diverse Workforce’

IRHR3510 Research Paper 1 Training and Development for a Diverse Workforce Completed by Emma Moulder Due April 14, 2010 Today s Society as a whole is ever changing and exceedingly diverse. This can also be said in the nature of business. Therefore, it is critical for organisations, HR managers and employers within any business to find different methods of training and development to suit their workforce, as well as trying to attract and keep talented employees through such opportunities. It is not satisfactory for employers to treat each employee the same, but instead must view each as an individual with differences, such as working styles, personality traits, culture, socioeconomic background, educational background and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They must consider language differences especially whilst preparing training material. Some individuals may also require an interpreter to get messages across clearly (Noe, Raymond, 2002, p333). If an interpreter is used, it is important to conduct a practice session with the interpreter to evaluate pacing of the session and whether the amount of topics and material is appropriate (Noe, Raymond, 2002, p333). A needs assessment or analysis would be helpful for trainers to evaluate cultural dimensions and the characteristics of their employees whether it be language barriers, cultural status (Noe, Raymond, 2002, p334). By identifying the needs of cultural and ethnic minorities, trainers will be able to properly train and develop this minority to group to not only suit the individual themself but also the company. Gender diversity in the workforce is another issue trainers must address. Women are increasingly entering the workplace at rapid speeds and due to their responsibility for home and family matters, employers and HR managers must provide flexibility and solutions through training and developing. Many women in the workforce have to juggle motherhood and try to manage a career and work life at the same time and studies have shown that the strain is beginning to take its toll on the general health and wellbeing of the female population (Robinson, Deborah, 2008, p1). Women need to be mentored by trainers to step up at take more senior positions in

The First Recorded Dolphin Drive Occurred Between 1936 And...

In 1933, the finding of the first recorded dolphin drive occurred between 1936 and 1944. According to the History of Taiji these hunts in 1969 were being led in a larger scale, this commencing what influenced the Taiji hunts that are happening today. The main aims of these hunts were to capture pilot whales to be initiated as prized attractions for the Taiji Whale Museum. Thus, the dolphindrive was purely for profit, having nothing to do with cultural history. As some local fishermen might claim (Whiting, 2014, para. 6). Taiji is a town in Japan that has become notoriously known for it s annual dolphin hunting drive held between the months of September until March. During these gruelling 7 months, dolphins are either slaughtered for their meat or taken to captivity where they will spend their lives performing tricks for little to no amounts of food. But alas, as the world views these as a form of animal cruelty and unjust behaviour, community members of Taiji view the hunting s as a long held tradition.

The so called fisherman (a select few) work in unison with wildlife park trainers who would inspect the dolphins personally and chose the one s that are pretty and are able to follow given directions for certain tricks to live their lives in captivity. Which subsequently is just as much as the same fate as their fellow porpoises. The hunters use specific equipment when dealing with these animals, banger poles are used to strike against the boat to drive the

Analysis Of Othello And Trifles

At first glance or giving a slight ear to the two plays Trifles and Othello the differences can be very noticeable. Othello was written by a man William Shakespeare and Trifles by a women Susan Glaspell. While Glaspell authored her play in the twentieth century, Shakespeare on the other hand penned his play in the seventeenth century. Trifles theme dealt with isolation whereas jealousy was the theme in Othello. When taking a closer look and compare the two the use of verbal irony, situational irony, and dramatic irony are used in the same way to keep the audience intrigued and full of suspense. Glaspell comes out the shoot running with verbal irony the title, Trifles , which means a small thing or something of less... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Glaspell wittingly places Mrs. Peters, the sheriff s wife in the middle of committing a crime yet while setting her up as Mrs. Doright. The County Attorney affirms this when he states, No Mrs. Peters doesn t need supervising. For that matter, a sheriff s wife is married to the law (Kennedy Gioia 861). This keeps the audience wondering if she is going to uphold what she knows about the law or go forth in breaking it, yet another technique in heightening the suspense. Correspondingly, Shakespeare masters this element of situational irony in Othello . At the start of the play Iagodoes not think Cassio is fit for lieutenant, but rather it should be him. Iago makes this assertion, Despise me If I do not. Three great ones of the city, In personal suit to make me his lieutenant, (Kennedy Gioia 963). Furthermore, Iago discredited Cassio s ability by saying, Forsooth, a great arithmetician, One Michael Cassio... (Kennedy Gioia 963). Iago desire was to get Cassio from his position so he could have it, he felt that Cassio only had book smarts about war and not actual participating in such acts. The irony in it comes at the end when Iago dies and Cassio is still alive and is promoted to general: For they succeed on you. [To Cassio] To you, Lord Governor, (Kennedy Gioia 1060). Glaspell and Shakespeare kept their

I

I did my wheel chair day on March 11. It was the day of the anatomy practical. So I have to admit when I arrived at school I was more concerned about finishing my practical than doing my wheelchair assignment. I was in the wheelchair while reviewing the bones box before the practical and actually was not in my wheelchairfor the exam. I didn t feel like I really started my experience until after the practical. One thing I notice right away was how much shorter I felt. Though it was something I was expecting, when I actually experienced it I was still surprising. I found that I had to look up to talk to people. It was a weird feeling because I was so use to being on the same level as people, and the perspective shift was disorienting.

The second surprise was the bathroom. I never thought this would be an issue since I considered myself to have strong arms, and felt that I would have been able to do the task with ease. Although APU has handicap accessible stalks they aren t all that different from normal ones. Yes they are bigger that a normal stall, but I still had no clue how to go about transferring myself from the wheelchair to the toilet. It was not something that I was ever taught. After, the experience I had to look up a video how to do it, and I can say what I did surely was not as easy as the video made it seem. I realized that people that are wheelchair bound have many small adaptations they would need to learn in order to do daily activities. As a therapist I feel

The Relationship Between Concepts Of The Leadership...

climate where people feel appreciated and cared for by their leader (Kouzes Posner, 2007). Celebrating accomplishments reminds the group that the leader values their dedication to the task and respects them, thereby enhancing the leader s credibility (Truesdell, 2011).

Interactions between Concepts of the Leadership Challenge Model The Leadership Challenge Model is easy to understand and is specific enough that almost anyone with the desire to improve or attain leadership skills can follow the guidelines presented in the practices and commitments and be successful. The model emphasizes that leadership is a learned skill that anyone can master. Although the practices are presented in an order, different tasks or projects may not follow the order but will include all of the practices at some point. When considering the model, it is easy to see how each practice combines with the commitments ascribed to result in successful leadership. All of the practices are interrelated and emphasize the leader as a part of a team or group of people with the same values and aspirations that work together to reach a goal. The word we should be used in place of I , because the leader is expected to inspire the group to see the project or goal as their own.

Utilizing the Leadership Challenge Model to Implement the DNP Project As a leader of both my own business and my project, I have utilized the third practice of the model which is Challenge the Process . As a nurse
