Essay Daniel H. Pink s Critique of A Whole New Mind

Will right brainers rule the future? A whole new mind: why right brainers will rule the future, a book by Daniel H. Pink assesses this critical question. Pink s book is divided into two parts. Part one lays out the broad animating idea, provides an overview of key differences between our left and right hemispheres, presents the case for why Abundance, Asia, and Automation pushes the world into the Conceptual Age . It illustrates why people who master high concept and high touch set the tempo for modern life. Part two of the book covers the six essential right brainabilities Pink described as needed to make it in the Conceptual Age. Design. Story. Symphony. Empathy. Play. Meaning. Pink devotes one chapter to each of these six senses,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pink s agreement here conflicts with the reoccurring theme of his book that right brain directed thinking should be added to left brain directed thinking. Throughout the book Pink illustrated how right brain directed thinking is rising in fields that were restricted to L directed thinking and thinkers. For example, in the chapter on story he reveals the idea of narrative medicine. Narrative medicine is part of a wider trend to incorporate an R Directed approach into what has long been a bastion of L Directed muscle flexing. Fifteen years ago, about one out of three American medical schools offered humanities courses. Today, three out of four do (Pink, 2006). From this example just like many in his book Pink addresses how and why R directed thinking could and should be added to L directed thinking but he lack in evidence in showing that we are completely moving away from an economy and society built on the logical, liner, computer like capabilities of the Information Age to the economy and society built on the inventive empathetic, big picture capabilities (2006).

Pink s argument that we are moving out of a left brain dominance and in to a new era where right brain qualities will be prized is well illustrated in part one the book. According to Pink the two hemispheres of our brain don t operate as on off switches...both halves play a role in nearly everything we do (2011). Pink suggests that both hemisphere of the brain are equally important. In fact, a healthy,

DAY 1 There are so many sights to see at Yosemite National Park that it is difficult to choose where to start your Journey. This guide will tell you all about the great finds you will see as you explore some of the most beautiful and unique trails the park has to offer. Day one will be focused on the northern part of Yosemite National Park.

Twin Lakes What a better place to start your adventure than to visit Twin lakes. This trail s name is called Twin Lakes because of the fact that there are two lakes. One is called the North Twin Lake, while the other is called the South Twin Lake. This trail is very popular because of the nearby campground. You will definitely not get lost in this area, as... Figure 2 Frog Creek. Flikr.com While at Yosemite, why not visit a rockslide? Slide Mountain is a very interesting area to visit. It is located in the east northern part of the park. These rockslides are part of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The very steep bank located at the bottom of Slide Mountain is 3230 meters in elevation. The glacial polish located in the rockslide indicates that Slide Mountain was once filled with glaciers that eroded the mountain to make it so steep. This is such a wonderful natural made masterpiece to visit for those interested in the geology of Yosemite. An extremely enjoyable activity to do while you are there is to rock climb Slide Mountain.

Matterhorn Canyon

Just east of Slide Mountain, you will come across Matterhorn Canyon. This thirteen mile hike is very famous because you will not find another canyon in Yosemite that compares to this one. This canyon has a small river flowing in between the walls of Matterhorn Canyon. These walls are scattered with rocks and meadows. Its cliffs are made out of smooth granite, which are crystallized igneous rock. Hiking up the trail to the northern boundary of Matterhorn Canyon is Matterhorn Peak. This peak is very spectacular in that you are able to ascend this peak with the right gear and it is one of the highest peaks in the Northern part of the

Reflection Of Tswalo

This is a discursive paper of Tswalo that took place at Theatre arts admin Collective, on the 26 30 August 2017. Written and performed by Billy Langa, Directed by Mahlatsi Mokgonyana and sound design by John Withers (Theatre arts admin collective, 2017). Tswalo is a spiritual quest that gives the audiences the baton to walk through their own paradigm of ontology, Tswalo s poetry, prose and stories furnish us with the necessary tools into a deep meditation. It undoubtedly begs the question (or theory) of being, becoming and unbecoming.

Lyrical prose, poetry and physical storytelling entwine to interrogate the rules that govern life on earth, such as power, creation, politics, connection, and intuition the performers expression of his source (Theatre arts admin collective, 2017).

This paper will discuss and analyses ways in which the elements of the Scenography, the set costume design and the lighting in Tswalo. The discussion will be based on how they are being used, what meaning did they had or represent and the effect that they had on the play. I will lastly be giving examples that will be supporting my analysis from the play.

Tswalo means Birth /Rebirth clearly is a deliberate title the writer for the piece as the most obvious message that the actor portrays is that of birth or perhaps rebirth. The actor/performer portrayal and engagement with their characters was easily convincing, maybe this was driven by Mahlatsi Mokganyana director s choice. For the opening of

Ap Psychology Case Study Essay

Case H. F. is an 11 year old male with a history of major depressive disorder and ADHD who presented to the inpatient child and adolescent mental health unit for concerns of suicidal ideation. During an interview with H. F. and family members, it became clear that there were behavior concerns during school, increased difficulties in interpersonal relationships with peers, and increasing use of the internet and social media to form social relationships. His parents were also concerned about the inappropriate content of his conversations online. During an interview with H. F. alone, he showed difficulty in conversation with an odd range of topics, for example robo hamsters, his pets, and becoming a bank robber when he grew up, but was redirectable. Throughout conversation he was also excessively fidgety and could not maintain an appropriate body station, eye contact or maintained engagement. While hospitalized, he had several... Importantly, children diagnosed with SCD must also demonstrate functional limitations as a result of poor pragmatic communication skills, which may pose barriers to social, interpersonal and academic or occupational success. Also, the communication deficit cannot be due to a deficit in structural language skills, or be attributable to another medical or neurological condition. The DSM 5 notes frequent co occurrence of other neurodevelopmental disorders. However, if a child s symptoms are better and more completely explained by ASD, intellectual developmental disorder, global developmental delay or another mental disorder, a diagnosis of SCD cannot be made. The notable absence of restricted and repetitive behaviors is the important in appropriately diagnosing a patient with SCD versus ASD.

Mental and Physical Health

Freud and Maslow, along with many others who have studied and are still studying human behavior settle that mental health does affect physical health. People are healthier when they have a higher self esteem; thus making negative people/ones with low self esteem less healthy. Ever hear that stress wears down the body? It s absolutely true! Stressing can cause problems and produces fear and anxiety. Stress can grow a resistance to disease and can slowly decrease your health.

Sigmund Freud, 1856 1939, was an MD who specialized in neurology. Mental and physical health combined was ignored until Freud began studying the issues. Once psychoanalysis became popular, psychology and psychiatry began to turn away from thinking people were abnormally ill and mental and tried to learn why about conflicts leading to trauma and conflicts. Some of his views: there is a cause for all human behavior and the goal of human behavior is tension reduction. Freud wanted to understand anxiety and where it came from. He wanted to solve the symptoms. Freud led to the psychological revolution.

Abraham Maslow was another significant person in the study of mental and physical health. From his own experiences, he was able to understand the psychological effects. His mother and father were not the best of parents. His mother was mean and rude, while his father wasn t around very much. He was

Compare And Contrast The Comparison Of Collocations And...

In this essay, I will compare and contrast how collocations and idioms can be learned from a book and from a corpus. I decided to carry out this study because, even though German is my advanced language, I often find it difficult to make my speech more natural and fluent. In order to sound more natural when I am speaking German, I need to have some knowledge of typical German sayings, idioms and collocations. Another reason why I decided to focus on idioms and collocations in German was that they vary greatly to the ones we use in English and I wanted to gain some knowledge on these subjects. Corpus linguistics can be best defined as a linguistic methodology which is founded on the use of electronic collections of naturally occurring texts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Sinclair, 29) What Sinclair is referring to as word combinations are idioms, expressions and of course, collocations. The phraseological nature of language has long been perceived as language does not expect us to build everything starting with lumber, nails, and blueprint, and rather it provides us with an incredibly large number of prefabs (Bolinger 1976:1)

The major task for second language collocation research is to discover what it means for learners of German (or any other second language), how they learn it and what problems they encounter when acquiring a collocation. Collocation not only plays a crucial role in language production and language comprehension but also functions as a key indicator of the language learners overall proficiency in the field of second language accusation. (Men, 2016)

Knowledge of collocations, to most people, is the of the same importance as the knowledge of grammar. If one is aware of simple language patterns in their second language not only will their flow of speech be much better, but they will be also more confident when listening to and speaking, their chosen

Comparing Vladimir Lenin s Eyes And A Capitalist Society

The popular, the majority, the working class, the predominant, the masses. There are countless terms available to describe who has the most socio political power, the most weathered; the proletariats. In Vladimir Lenin s eyes, in a capitalist society a proletariat is the term used to describe the working class, the class that does not have ownership of any means of production(land and capital) and whose sole income source derives from labor. The minority, who own the majority of the wealth, the means of production, and the means of coercion(law enforcement and legal system). In a capitalist society, the bourgeoisie exploit the proletariats. Only the bourgeoisie could afford the means of production, therefore they control the proletariat s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They would prohibit any Soviet that had a capitalist agenda from gaining any socio political power, therefore creating the first completely proletarian government, made by and for the working class. Another example of where this method was applied is the Chinese Communist Revolution. Qu Lindong, a prominent Chinese historian at the University of Beijing, describes Marxism as the dominant outlook in[Chinese] history. In fact, the Chinese Revolution was championed by Mao Zedong, a devout believer in the Marxism Leninism revolutionary theories, whom attempted to apply the techniques used by Lenin in the Russian Revolution, adapted slightly to fit China s socio political needs, to his own nation. Both of these revolution s occurred for the same reason; the majority s exasperation in their respective, unequal social structure. Essentially, the working class got tired of being exploited and suppressed by the ruling class, and decided to take a stand against them, as one unit. The Chinese Revolution was similar to the Russian Revolution because, once capitalism reigned globally supreme, the only type of revolt that could occur is the overthrow of capitalism by the conscious revolutionary acts of the proletariat. Therefore, almost all revolutions are based on class conflict and

The Interdependence Of The Health System

Health system is defined as all activities whose primary purpose is to promote, restore, and maintain health (WHO, 2000). All activities in the system can be assumed as an organization of components and their interconnections that work together for a purpose, which is concerned with people s health. In other words, a system has many parts as a set of interrelated components to achieve a common goal (Shi Singh, 2014). The interdependence of the healthsystem can be regarded as the functions and roles played by these components (The World Bank, 2007). Describing the components, interdependence, and purpose, Roemer (1991) defined a health system as the combination of resources, organization, financing and management that culminate in... A strong belief in capitalism has led to health care being viewed as an economic good or service, not as a public resource. In other words, health is viewed as a privilege, not as a right. This has led to the fee for service being the principal model of payment, which has uncontrolled utilization, uncontrolled prices and payments. Capitalism has also led to the belief that each individual and business particularly in private sectors try to manipulate financial incentives for their own benefits without considering the effect on the system (Shi Singh, 2014).

Values and beliefs do not only influence in shaping the entire health system, but they also influence the other system within the systems framework such as system resources especially human resources (health service professionals) and system processes especially the way of healthcare delivered to people. For instance, health service professionals cultural and value backgrounds may affect the way they perform health care services. Part of their values as professionals is shaped not only by their academic experiences, but also by their cultures and beliefs. Since cultural and social factors between patients and health service professionals are not always the same, it is important to take into

How Is Arthur Dimmesdale Selfish

In the event of any natural disaster, the outcome of the unforeseen predicament is impossible to predict. When faced with this situation, a parent s first instinct is to protect their children. However, the parent s fear could gain control, preventing an escape from the storm. When given the choice to be conquered by his version of mother nature or abandon the storm completely, Dimmesdale failed to escape due to his cowardice features. Although he eventually confessed to his sin, Nathaniel Hawthorne s character, Arthur Dimmesdale, proved to be weak through denying his responsibilities, causing him, and all those involved, to endure his consequences. Being truthful is often more of a challenge than lying, as for Dimmesdale, both the truth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Arthur Dimmesdale s first sign of selfishness appeared just as the novel began. As Hester Prynne stood on the scaffold in the first scene, Dimmesdale could have confessed the truth to the whole town then, but chose not to. Dimmesdale s self centeredness allowed him to stare straight into Hester s eyes during her punishment and remain quiet, even though he should have been up there accepting the punishment as well. Dimmesdale displayed another heartless act in the Governor s garden. As Hester plead for her rights to keep Pearl, Dimmesdale showed no sympathy to confess the truth. The fact that he stood there, seeing, hearing Hester s pain and the struggle she had raising Pearl on her own, and chose to stay hidden in his lie, shows the true selfishness that he withholds in his heart. Hawthorne controlled Dimmesdale s actions to be egoistical in order to, once again, emulate all of humanity in one character. Humanity s greatest weakness, in Hawthorne s eyes, was selfishness. A society in which everyone has only an interest in their own well being is not a society Hawthorne desired to
