Liminal entities are neither here nor there; they are betwixt and between the positions assigned and arrayed by law, custom, convention, and ceremonial (Turner, The Ritual Process 95). Arnold van Gennep s original concept of liminality is a central theme to Bram Stoker s Dracula. It provides depth and understanding behind many of the superstitious beliefs and occurrences throughout the novel. Liminality is the threshold and the presence of an in between state occurring within rituals, natural events, and supernatural beings among a variety of other happenings. Many of these are touched upon in Dracula including, but not limited to, the half being, physical boundaries, and the nature of the vampire. The half being ... He also shows wolfish characteristics as he acts at night without making any sound and flawlessly stalks his prey such as in his nighttime pursuit of a sleepwalking Lucy as observed by Mina (Stoker 90). Lucy also shows predatory instincts in her role as The Bloofer Lady (Stoker 178). As an undead, she stalks and hunts the children of the town at night to deliver a fatal bite to their necks. In Dracula, the half being expresses instincts and characteristics of both a predatory beast and the common man exhibiting liminal behaviour. A boundary acts as a transition phase from one state of being or location to another, or otherwise defined as liminality. Throughout the novel, boundaries act as the line between opposite states, presences, and ideas. This is seen when Jonathan Harker is entering Transylvania. He describes the area as the centre of some sort of imaginative whirlpool and a frontier that has had a very stormy existence (Stoker 2, 3). As Harker crosses from the West to the East over the Danube, he is leaving the lands of constitution and security for those of danger, turmoil, and superstition. The shoreline is liminal through acting as a boundary between the openness and chaotic nature of the ocean and

Abstract
This study examined the effects of growing up with verbal abuse on adult behavior. Forty one Bloomfield college students were given surveys to fill out that asked them to rate their childhood experiences regarding verbal abuse, and their behavior on a 1 to 5 scale (from never to frequently). We predicted that people who were verbally abused during their childhood, had an aggressive demeanor in adulthood. According to our research, we discovered that participants who reported they acted aggressively and got into altercations were verbally abused during their childhood or witnessed someone being verbally abused.

Effects of Verbal Abuse During Childhood on Adult Behavior
When most people think of abuse they think of something physical. Verbal abuse is a serious issue that not enough attention is paid to it. To be verbally abused means being attacked with words that injure an individual, word that cause someone to believe false statements of themselves.
The aim for this study was to find a relationship between verbal abuse during childhood and adult behavior. Previous research suggest that individuals who ve experienced verbal abuse during their childhood suffered behavioral issues.
Researchers have found a relationship between verbal abuse and bipolar disorder. Many findings shown how physical and sexual abuse cause bipolar

During the Medieval times of England, society was created as a pure patriarchy by the Christian church, and nearly everything was made male dominated where the men held the power and their female counterparts held little to no power at all. Arthurian texts such as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight showcase many of the characters mostly following these traditions with the men being portrayed as strong hearted knights who follow a code of chivalry, and the women as passive and submissive beings to the men. However, Arthur s half sister Morgan Le Fayis featured in Sir Gawain, and she does not play any parts given to her as a woman, as she is portrayed as an enchantress and an evil, manipulative woman, which is an archetype that was given to women who did not follow their given gender roles. Morgan Le Fay subverts the traditional roles for women by having her own power in the play, and overall presents herself as the antithesis to the church and the patriarchy of the Medieval times. Morgan Le Fay is not physically present for all of Sir Gawain, however, at the end of the play it is revealed that she was the one who initiated the plot, ironically making her the most vital ... Sir Gawain would not have the plot it has if not for Morgan, as it is because of her that the play and the characters have all their conflicts. Morgan Le Fay s character is an ultimately successful and mysterious character, and although Arthurian literature leaves her marginalized in a villainous role, she remains one of the most pivotal characters in the texts for asserting her power over all the characters she interacts with and going against many of the gender roles during the medieval

Of course the raison d etre of the jazz album is to provide listeners with reproductions of jazz performances. But it is also true that at its best the jazz record especially the 12 inch LP but occasionally the early cylinder and the heavy (at first one sided) pancake platter of yesteryear and even the 7 or 10 inch recording, and the CD of our own era can be such a perfect package that it looks and feels just as jazzy as the music itself. The truth is that sometimes the entire package (cover art, liner notes, disk, and label) actually outswings the music it is meant to complement. In some cases one keeps the record only for the sake of its beautiful wrappers and writings! But when all of a jazz album s artistic values are high, music and package alike, the listener/observer/holder/reader has access to an aesthetic experience that is deeply and uniquely satisfying.
Prior to the introduction of the 12 inch LP in 1950, 78 rpm jazz records (and records in all categories) were packaged either in single paper sleeves or in sleeve pages of albums having two or more platters bundled together. They were albums (from Latin albus, white ) in the sense that they consisted of display pages where items

What does home mean to you? Is it a place? Is it a feeling? To me, home is neither a place, nor a feeling, it is the people that surround you and care for you. These people can be your family or the people that you trust and have grown close to. Since the day I was born, my family and I were always moving from state to state. This is because both of my parents served in the United States Navy. To give you an idea on how often I moved, before I had turned 12 years old, my family had moved seven times throughout the Eastern half of the United States, close to the average amount of times that a person moves in his lifetime which is recorded at 11.7 times (Chalabi). Make Your Dorm Room More Comfortable Your dorm room is the place you will most likely be spending the majority of time during college. So, make it feel like home. In most colleges, the dorms are bland and boring white walls. Because of this, you will like your new found home better if you decorate it or add features to make it more appealing and more comfortable. In my dorm, my roommate and I have put up pictures and a flag of the United States and a Don t Tread On Me Flag. Also in my common room (A living room between my dorm room and two other dorm rooms) my suite mates have gotten a fish tank and Christmas lights to add life to the room. However, the most essential way to make your dorm room more comfortable and feel like home is to get along with your roommate. In my case, my roommate and I went to the same high school and have known each other for years and what the other does and does not care for. Here is a video showing ways to avoid problems with your roommate. At summer orientation, administration gave the incoming students a tip for when we were moving into our dorms. This tip was to make your bed first before you unpack. Their reason for saying behind making your bed first is so that your dorm room will immediately feel like home. In the 21st century humans are presented with means to impact their societies potential in a greater way than ever before. With new technology, individuals have astounding control over the foundations of social value. One of the most powerful tools to mold these foundations is the Internet. After its creation in the 1950s, the Internet has witnessed excessive and continuous growth. As more and more people become part of the Internet s population its power to shape society s capital. To examine this power the definition of social capital must be clarified. Former president of the American Political Science Association, Robert Putnam explains in his book Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community that social capital... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like food and shelter, community development has also allocated a majority of human resources. From primitive inventions such as basic language and writing utensils to the telephone and the Internet, humans have a communal goal to connect more frequently and with more people. As of 2014, the Internet is the most successful device because it increases global connection and frequency of communication. The Internet increases community access enabling users to communicate with forty percent of the world, over three billion people (Internet). Increasing by almost thirty thousand users a day the Internet exhibits amounts of efficiency surpassing that of other communication technologies (Howard 383). Before the Internet social networks were limited to local communities. Communication mainly occurred between people geographically close. The Internet has broken the constraint geography placed on community. Sociologist Barry Wellman discusses the Internets extension of society connectedness in Connecting Community: On and Offline. With the Internet, people have global connectivity and [i]nstead of being bound up in a neighborhood community where all know all people create networks based on their unique traits not proximity (Wellman 25,27). Through this increased exchange between diverse people the global social capital is increased as well. The world as one large society sees a connectedness that benefits everyone as a whole and
In the novel, Kindred, composed by Octavia E. Butler, Dana strives to maintain agency, or power over situations or personal encounters, as she navigates the Antebellum south. When Dana first meets Rufus, she keeps her knowledge of key events, such as details of her time traveling experience, to herself in order to place her in a position of power over him. However, as the story progresses and Rufus gradually learns more, Dana resorts to making threats to secure her slipping agency. Ultimately, these events reveal the underlying theme that the knowledge a person holds strongly influences their agency. As the topic turns to how Dana time travels and the details involved, Dana claims that, I don t know how it happens how I move that way or when it s going to happen. I can t control it. Who can? I don t know. No one. I didn t want him to get the idea that he could control it. Especially if it turned out that he really could (Butler 23). Even though Dana herself doesn t fully understand what is happening, any inkling of an idea that could be explained is merely internalized, not explained to Rufus. Because Dana is now in a society that does not give much less support any of the rights she held in 1976, she must try to regain the agency that she automatically lost when she entered the Antebellum south. Clearly, Dana has chosen to take back her control by obtaining knowledge that will give her leverage over others. Even though Dana doesn t know who, or even if anyone can control her time traveling, the statement, I don t know. No one, displays this inner conflict, yet the finality in her tone gives the impression that what she has said can t be debated, thus discouraging Rufus. By not allowing Rufus to further consider this point, Dana has temporarily inhibited his ability to obtain any knowledge surrounding the

Britney Spears prevalence as a pre teen pop culture icon cannot be denied or ignored. Spears, along with her colleagues Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore and many others, are ever present on the Top 40, make frequent appearances on MTV, and can often be found on magazine covers and in photo spreads. Spearsis especially popular among pre teen girls, who buy her records, singing and dancing along to the lyrics. These lyrics often deal with love, lust, and sex topics some consider too mature for the young girlstargeted by Spears marketing. Spears is often criticized for having mass produced songs that someone else wrote for her. However, these songs have mass appeal which Douglas considers a strength. Pre teen girls, in the midst of forging an identity among their peers can certainly find solidarity by singing out the words to Hit Me Baby One More Time together. At the very least, Spears music will serve to unite women twenty years from now who will still know all the words to the catchy tunes as they play over the oldies radio station. At the same time, depending on each girl s individual knowledge and experience, the songs will be interpreted differently. The lyrics give voice to a range of emotions that girls may have and be unable to express otherwise. Another positive quality of pop music is that it can give conflicting emotions a voice, something that can aid in the process of growing up. As Douglas put it, girl groups gave voice to all the warring selves inside us struggling, blindly and with a crushing sense of insecurity, to forge something resembling a coherent identity...girl group music let us try on and act out a host of
