How Is Chris Mccandless A Spoiled Brat

Chris McCandless was a spoiled brat. One example of this was when Chris was being dropped off at the start of the Stampede Trail by Jim Gallien. He insisted on giving Gallien his watch, comb, and money. If he did not take them, [Chris would] throw [them] away, (Krakauer 7). Chris had no appreciation for his belongings. He planned to just throw away his belongings and money. This was just one of the many times he took his belongings for granted; he burned his money, ditched his car, and refused to take actual boots from Gallien. He disposed of money because he had no value of it and did not appreciate the work it took to make that money. He was raised in an upper class household and did not have to work hard to have money. He grew up in a

The Survivors Of The Titanic Disaster

On the nigh of April 14, 1912 the world was struck with disaster as the RMS Titanic collided with an iceberg and sunk into the sea. Only 31.6% survived the disaster. In order to understand what factors lead to the highest chances of survival, this project uses a Titanic passenger database and decision trees in order to classify survivors into two groups, survived and perished. Then using this information, rank the most important factors regarding likelihood of survival. ADD RESULTS.

1 Introduction

On the nigh of April 14, 1912 the world was struck with disaster as the RMS Titaniccollided with an iceberg and sunk into the sea. Traveling from Southampton, England to New York City, New York, the ship was thought to be unsinkable with no chance of disaster striking. However, the voyage ended not in New York, but the more than 1500 deaths, the most deadly peacetime maritime disaster in history. This meant that only 31.6% of the people aboard the ship survived, 492 passengers and 214 crewmembers.

Nevertheless, not all has been lost about the people aboard the ship the night of the disaster that did not make it into the lifeboats. Due to the fact that most of the passengers details were recorded when the purchased their tickets or boarded the boat, we can easily see who was present that night and who survived the disaster. What is harder to understand is what facts caused certain people were more likely to survive the disaster and of those factors which ones were the most

How Does William Blake

How Does William Blake convey his anger in the poem London ?

The poem London by William Blake, relfects his feelings upon the society that he was living in , and how despreratly it needed help. Blake thought that all of the poverty and misfortune that was happening on the streets were caused by the political opression in London. Blake was angered by what he saw in his homeland as other countries started fighting for their indipendence and equality whilst his country stayed dormant, eventhough he felt that there was a serious need for serious action.

Eventhough Blake wasn t a typical romantic writer, he too possesed the same beliefs of fighting for what one believes in, and the urge to be liberated from the opression of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Another image that the writer creates, of an opressed scoiety, is the metaphor mind for ged manacles , this is as the manacles are only forged by the mind thus, it not being real so therefore anyone can break free from it anytime, but yet they chose to stay in self imprisonment. The line mind for ged manacles also conveys Blake s anger towards the ignorance of the people in country as he believed that they could break free from their imaginary prison cells, and fight the authorities that were causing their poverty, just like in the French Revolution.

One way that Blake uses to convey his anger on what he sees is through his constant repition on certain words. In the first stanza,he repeats the word charter d twice. By repeating the word charter d twice , it places furthur emphasis on the streets and thames being restricted by authority. The word mark is then also repeated three times in the poem, by doing so, Blake is able to let the reader take more awearness of the word mark and the story it is associated with, which is the mark of Caine.

Caine was given a black mark on his face by God as he murderd his brother, the mark then branded him as a sinner. However, eventhough the mark branded him as a sinner, it also protected him from harm as anyone who harmed Caine was said to be punished with 30 times the damage inflicted upon him. The story of Caine relates to London in a sense that

Creating A New Cyber Force

1. Today, there is a new battlefield domain where a keyboard and mouse are the new weapons of conflict. With land, sea, air and space in the background, warfare has entered a fifth domain: cyber. In this position paper, using a pro and con format, the debate on whether or not the Department of Defense (DoD) should create a new, independent branch for cyber will be discussed. To do this, the following will examine both sides of debate by highlighting two main points: the elimination of duplication of effort and the intensive resources required to make the transition. Finally, a look into a larger talent pool will be explored to highlight the largest benefit of creating a new Cyber Force. It is this paper s stance that the DoD should create a separate structure in order to meet the new domain s unique demands.

2. To better understand this topic, a brief background on cyber warrants a closer look. President Obama concluded as early as 2009 that the nation s digital infrastructure of networks and computers that we depend on should be treated as a strategic national asset.1 With the former head of security at Microsoft acting as the cybersecurity tsar for the White House and General Keith Alexander, Director of the National Security Agency (NSA), leading Cyber Command (CYBERCOM), the protection of the nation s infrastructure is finally being treated like a national security priority.2 This shift brings with it a debate on how to structure the US assets to realize its

Foreshadowing In The Most Dangerous Game

Almost everyone in the world has gone through a situation that they didn t want to be in. In The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, the main character, Rainsford, falls overboard off his ship after hearing gunshots from somewhere in the distance. As he fell, His cry was cut short by the water engulfing him Rainsford being both intelligent and a pro hunter, follows the sound of the gunshot fire to safety of land to save his own life. From previous experience of hunting, he knows that there s a man hunting with a .22 pistol. Rainsford then finds a man after searching for a place to survive. His name was General Zaroff. After getting to know Zaroff he finds out that this island is called Ship Trap Island and learns that he s being hunted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This changes Rainsford outlook on hunting. He first thinks of it as how Animals have no feelings and that Animals aren t as important as humans. Rainsford then has his opinion change to the exact opposite. Being hunted is the most fearful thing to happen to him. The scene between Rainsford and Zaroff illustrates that both the same type of interests, but Zaroff just likes more of a Challenge or More Competition as he says. Richard Connell uses inner thinking as a craft throughout Zaroff hunting Rainsford on the island. Rainsford says that he Will not lose his nerve and chants Nerve! Nerve! Nerve! to himself to stay calm and collected even though he s is being hunted by a human, his own kind. All this evidence suggests that Richard Connell uses inner thinking to tie the story to the

Educational Philosophies

Educational Philosophies

Liberty

What is the philosophy of education? It is a set of ideas and beliefs that guides teachers actions and provides a framework for thinking about educational issues. (Kauchak and Eggen, 197) Teachers use philosophy everyday in their classrooms. From the time the first student enters their room until the last student walks out, philosophy is affecting the way the teacher runs his/her classroom and how they interact with their students. There are four different types of educational philosophies: Perennialism, Essentialism, Progressivism, and Social reconstuctionism. There are also five classroom applications that help teachers decide which philosophies are used while they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lectures, questioning, practice and feedback are some of the teaching methods I would use in my classroom. These follow the Essentialism philosophy. I believe that consistence in a classroom is crucial but also you have to mix things up in order to keep the students attention and keep them interested in the curriculum. On the other hand, learning should not be all fun and games. Students will never take learning seriously if there is not seriousness implanted in their learning experience. It is my opinion classroom learning environments should be highly structured with strong focuses on academic work as well as essential knowledge and skills. As I stated before, a child should have just as much academic knowledge as they do knowledge of how the world works around them. This follows both Essentialism as well as Perennialism. Perennialism is an educational philosophy suggesting that nature is constant and that schools should teach classic knowledge. (Kauchak and Eggen, 201) Lastly, I feel that teachers should offer frequent objective and performance assessments and feedback to their students. Students should be periodically assessed on their work and given feedback and how they are doing. This is part of the essentialism philosophy. I believe that assessing students and giving them feedback helps the students as well as their parents know, without question, how the students in doing, what their level of

Gothic Story Essay

I will not tell you Of my name Nor the reason I am here I only tell you I am watching, And that I am near X I send you these instructions As desire for some revenge So do not fly When I tell you this Kill orphans Or you die X As the carriage stopped beneath the archway, Elizabeth Cockles jumped out and looked around her. Above her head was a tall archway of trees that edged the pathway to the house. As she got closer, Elizabeth realised that mansion was a more correct way to describe it. Once one got nearer, the archway opened up until one could see the whole front of the house in a somehow eerie way. Around the windows grew ivy and creepers, twisting their way up to the roof in a claw like fashion. The windows... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Auntie Cockles gave Elizabeth a grand welcome, and sat her down by the kitchen fire and told her all the latest news of the orphanage. What interested Elizabeth most was the appearance of a new housemistress, and the disappearance of four girls her age in the six months after Miss Samuels arrival. And now dear, it is time for bed. Charlotte will show you up to your dormitory, won t you Charlotte? smiled Auntie Cockles, before giving Charlotte such a stare, that she at once stood up and began to lead the way. During the next weeks, Elizabeth was plagued by the memories of her aunt s face as she spoke of the missing girls, and told her friends of her suspicions, and they told her that the cellar was supposedly haunted, and dared her to go down and talk to the ghost, or whatever was down there. Not being one to ever back out of a dare, Elizabeth took her candle and crept down to the cellar that night. As she opened the door, a horrible smell met her nostrils, and she recoiled from the stench, and, breathing through her mouth, quietly stepped from step to step. As she reached the bottom, the flame from her candle illuminated the stinking cellar. At first, she could not make out anything, but as her eyes became accustomed to the dark, she found four bodies, all wrapped up in cloth except the feet. Those feet were enough to put almost anyone off, but as Elizabeth could not see them properly, she ignored them, and with what was either immense

The Australian Competency Standards For The Registered Nurse

How would your chosen nurse measure unto the current Australian competency standards for the registered nurse?

In the last 200 years the ideas and theories of nursing and nurses in Australia alone has changed dramatically. Strict expectations continue to evolve all over the world as the demand for care of individuals, sick or well increases. This essay will discuss how nurses of the Nightingale era, more specifically how Florence Nightingale herself would measure up against the current Australian competency standards for the registered nurse. This will be seen by, firstly, an introduction about Nightingale and discussing the roles and responsibilities of nurses in that era, then comparing it to the expectations and strict ... The military hospital was so unhygienic that ten times more soldiers were dying of infectious diseases such as cholera and typhoid, rather than battle wounds(McDonald,L, 2013 b). On arrival Nightingale noted that the soldiers were Bell_Demi Leigh S290284_Assessment 1 _ NUR120

The main 3 areas noted in the military hospital contributing to the death toll was poor food, uncleanliness and fouled drains. Florence instructed her team of 38 volunteer nurses to clean the kitchens and wards, whilst the British government ordered a sanitation commission to flush out the drains and improve ventilation in the hospital, whilst Florence brought food from England, clean linen, clothing and soap for the wounded. This was the first time sanitation had been introduced to hospitals ( Fee, E Garofalo, ME, 2010).

Nightingale pioneered implementing hygienic conditions in hospitals for the ill and wounded. Florence Nightingales contribution to nursing was the pinpoint of change and the start of how we perceive nursing today. She founded her nursing school in London and supplied the world with a team of trained matrons nurses. The standards of nursing improved and it began to be considered as a worthy profession in its own right. Florence innovation
