A topic of much debate in many political systems is how much power the head of state, or in some cases such as in constitutional monarchies, the head of government holds. If the leader holds too much power, the political process becomes undemocratic. Conversely if the leader has too little power, government becomes inefficient, sometimes crippling the government completely for their terms in office. In Canada, this can be seen in the effectiveness of a majority or minority government, and the abilities of the Prime Minister in each case. In the latter case, many believe that lack of prime ministerial power is attributed to the trend of ineffective minority governments because of the ability for motions of non confidence to be passed, forcing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is due to the nature of the inability to pass legislation without compromise between all parties forming the current government. Although compromise is at the center of responsible government, the inability to produce effective legislation and to govern efficiently because of the need of compromise between varying political parties also limits the ability of governments to provide their obligations to the citizens who placed them in power. These periods of governance tend to revolve around a constant power struggle over a single issue, rather than focusing on the larger affairs at hand. Again, examples in which these compromises, or rather lack of ability to make these compromises, can be seen throughout Canadian history. One such example of this was Prime Minister Joe Clark s minority Conservative government of 1979. In an attempt to ensure prosperity, Clark attempted to run the government as if it was a majority, and deliver on the platform on which he had run his election campaign. This was achieved by attempting to follow in the footsteps of the last Conservative Prime Minister, John Diefenbaker. Because of this, Clark was unable to deliver his own political agenda as
In my non fictional anecdote, the events that happen are quite plain and there s no real escalating action. There also isn t a lot of description to the setting and characters, so the goal with my fictional anecdote was to elaborate on the details that I ve forgotten over the years and make the story more appealing by creating fictional action. Small details can make a story seem more real and The one place I found the need to add more description to was Newburgh. I exaggerated how bad it is there, in order to create more of a mood that can be connected with the way I ended my story. Since I haven t been to Newburgh in about three or four years, I tried to take memories of it and make it seem like a much more impoverished place. I also wanted to add some minor details of the pool, especially since my memories of the way it looks are very faint, to make it seem like a safer place in contrast to the town around it. When Gary s wallet gets stolen, I wanted that to taint that seemingly safe place with the world around it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a kid, being there when my friend s dad s wallet got stolen and then going to the police station was much more exciting than it is looking back on it. When I realized how boring it is, I wanted to make the parts from the rising action to the end more appealing to read. By the time the action is supposed to pick up in my original anecdote, it really just plateaus. Adding fictional elements eliminated the plainness of what really happened and I decided to embellish everything that happened starting from when Gary left our spot at the pool to get us ice
There are a number of parties that could inherently be liable for an accident caused by an AV, the potential parties include; the user, the owner of the AV, the manufacturer of the AV, the manufacturer of the AV components or AV technology, the AV code programmer, a government entity responsible for the intelligent highway or perhaps even the AV itself by allowing AVs to be considered as legal persons. There have also been arguments that the federal government should create legislation preempting state tort remedies for AVs. Yet, due to the advanced equipment inside AVs, it will be difficult to differentiate technological malfunctions from AV technology with those of driver negligence at the outset of mass AV use. In the foreseeable future when there will likely be no human driver this will not be an issue. Instead, the difficult part will be determining which manufacturer out of the many involved in the creation of the AV is at fault. Present day procedures for identifying who is at fault may not be satisfactory when the accident involves an AV. However, there is a potential solution to identifying which vehicle or driver is at fault for an accident in the form of black boxes ( Flight Data Recorders ), similar to the ones used on airplanes. Black boxes would monitor driver activity and record data leading up to accidents. This would create a privacy concern, but the collection of relevant information would tell investigators the story of the cars operations and
The Qin and Han dynasties changed many things regarding how China was governed. An example would be standardizing the units of measurement, currency, and the width of roads which Qin Shi Huang did to ease trade within his country, his choices strengthened the unity between areas under his command. Another change is the Han dynastys usage of education. Han rulers permit all boys to receive an education to a certain extent, however, if they wanted to further their education more; they would have to travel to the capital. One of the several changes Qin Shi Huang changed how dictators controlled Chinain many ways how he distributed his land and power. Chinese rulers used many of the changes implemented by Qin Shi Huang for over 2000 years. The Qin dynasty drew inspiration from the Zhou dynasty, however, they improved the Zhou methods... After those dynasties came the Spring and Autumn Period (770 ca. 475 B.C.) followed by the Warring States Period(475 221 B.C.). The Warring States Period was a time of war, hence the name, and the cause of all that fighting was people who craved power and control over China. The difference between the Warring States Period and the Spring and Autumn period is that the Spring and Autumn Period had many, many small states while the Warring States Period had seven large states. After the Warring States Period, the victor, Qin Shi Huang emerged and formed the Qin Dynasty. Ordinarily, retaining power was difficult, but Qin Shi Huang managed to remain in power from 221 BC to 210 BC. Miraculously, he survived 3 assassination attempts, but he eventually fell to a mercury overdose during his search for eternal life. His control over China ended with his death, which consequently led to the quick demise of his
Oliver Sack is a doctor and a great writer, Sack wrote many books during his lifetime. An Anthropologist on Mars was written by him, this book consisting of few medical cases, these cases are all about different with their own experience and how they handle their disease or other medical issues. The most interesting case for me of this book is The Last Hippie . The Last Hippie was about Gerg, which came from Queens, and he seemed to have a bright future; but things changed, he started to annoy about his life, school and family. Gerg became rebellious and started to go against his parents and dropped out school; after he dropped out school he left his house and joined the drug and acid culture. However, Gerg found a new life in this drug... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of his tumor had caused damage that was complex and curious and it had destroyed structures of the inner of his brain, Gerg also couldn t remember new things his memories was stop in his young ages. (Sack 53) One day Sack brought up a news to Gerg, he told Gerg that his father was died at first Gerg was shock on it and be was depressed, five minutes later Gerg forgot about the death of his father. This tumor cancer seems a good thing for Gerg, because it helps Gerg to get rid off all the bad things; Gerg had lose all his friend and his father was died, in another way Gerg is luck than others because his parents had never give up him also he loves music and he never forget music. Even Gerg became blind, his father was died, his friend went to another hospital but he has music with him. I wonder to know that if Gerg didn t become rebellious, is it possible to become a musician or a
In a rapid globalizing world, America is not prepared to continue outshining other nations. Year after year, countries throughout the globe are better preparing young individuals in the mathematics, science and engineering fields. Students are better equipped to collaborate at the international level through foreign language acquisitionand increased global cultural knowledge. New generations bring new ideas, goals and standards, thus the rational ignorance of American citizens will further prevent the United Statesfrom developing at its highest level. Keeping up with the global competition will require a transformation in societal perspectives, with help from the media, as well as different educational focuses beginning at the elementary level. The United States is not destined to fail, but worldwide competition is increasing and adjustments are necessary for the American population and its educational system in order to maintain competitiveness. According to the Organization for Economic Co Operation and Development, the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) rated the United States 24th out of 34 OECD countries (Programme for International Student Assessment Results from PISA, 2012). The PISA is designed to test 15 year old students to determine if they can apply the skills and knowledge obtained in preceding educational years to real world situations; PISA scores demonstrate the student s capability of participating in modern societies (Programme for
With happiness in relationships continuing to decline as well at the rate of divorces rising it is no surprise that marriage and love has lost the value it once had. Edgar Lee Masters writer of the Spoon River Anthology also seems to feel that romantic relationships have also lost its value during his time. He is able to display this though several of his poems within the anthology. His unhappiness with love, romance, relationships and marriageare shown through his poems that illustrate unhappy marriages as well as the deaths connected to them.
Edgar Lee Masters uses the poem of Amanda Barker in order to show his own views of relationships. Amanda Barker s relationship with her husband was without love and full of hate. The Townspeople believed

As time and society evolved, religious orders and universities developed a mail system to exchange current events, information, and any other significant news that was taking place. As the postal service and society continued to progress, private individuals were able to utilize this relay of messengers delivering mail. By the 18th century international postal service was commonly exchanged between countries that agreed to participate in international postal service. During the year 1840 the international postal service was growing so complex that reform was needed to simplify it. Sir Rowland Hill was credited with introducing the system where postage for mail was prepaid in the form of a postage stamps to fund this ever increasing delivery system. (Universal Postal Union) The definition of email, or electronic mail, is a system for sending messages from one individual to another via telecommunication links between computers or terminals using dedicated software. (Dictionary.com) Among the people I commonly communicate with, having an email is just as common if not more common as having an actual physical mailing address. For example, a student attending Temple University can use a different postal address for each year of their academic studies due to moving to different locations, but throughout each semester the student is usually using the same exact email address. According to an article by Mashable, email can be traced back to 1971, if you
Binary Oppositions appear in multiple forms within this poem. We find the pairs of conflicting words and the readers are expected sort out which words have the ideal interpretation to the poem. Most of these pairs are descriptions about the pebble, the coldness (line 9) and the false warmth (line 14) skew our interpretation of this pebble. Pebbles are naturally cold but the text tries to resolve this fact by presenting warmth to the pebble. Yet the pebble did not produce this warmth itself, a living creature is required to generate the heat and to transfer it to the pebble. Also, the pebble will not be able to maintain the warmth once the heat source is taken away, thus false warmth. The pebble does have the potential to harness this warmth so is it really a cold being or a warm one? These conflicting ideas help to unravel the validity of the poem. The same can be done with the words coldness (line 9) and ardour (line 9), or its fierce or burning heat (Oxford English Dictionary). These words are given to the readerin the same line yet they hold completely unique ideas to the pebble. Is ardour heat that the pebble theoretically can hold or is it a kind of burning heat that a person feels due to emotions? A reader could also question how a pebble cannot be tamed (line 15) yet also be mindful of its limits (line 4). These are all humanqualities which are getting placed onto the pebble, and due to the limitations of pebbles we can understand these binary

There are many similarities and differences between The Taming of The Shrew and 10 Things I hate About You. The obvious and main difference is that The Taming of The Shrew was actually written by William Shakespeare whereas 10 things I Hate About You is not written by William. The language in the two is a little different though due to the date each was created. A similarity is that the main characters are the same. The main similarity though is definitely the plot line. The Taming of The Shrewis a comedy written by William Shakespearepossibly in the year of 1590. It is the second play that Shakespeare ever wrote. 10 Things I hate About Youwas filmed in 1999. The movie was directed by Gil Junger and was released on March 31, 1999. Although the film was later released and the name was changed it still has the same plot line that Shakespeare wrote. So the movie and play were basically the same except 10 Things I Hate About You is more modern than the original play. The language between The Taming of The Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You is completely different. In the play the language is older and harder to understand due to the style of it. In the movie the language is actually a lot easier to understand because it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Katarina, Kate, and Bianca both have the same personality in the play and movie. They are constant and rarely ever change. Bianca and Kate are still completely opposites in both the play and movie. Kate is unpredictable and unpopular. Bianca is very predictable and popular; she is someone that we would call a blonde. Kate is commonly misunderstood because of her choice to be different and stand out. I would have to say though in both The Taming of The Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You she ends up being my favorite character. In the movie she actually has a good heart throughout the whole thing, some people just aren t able to understand
