How Did Johnson Build A New Administration Building

In the summer of 1936 Herbert Johnson was ready to build a new administration building. He had commissioned a prominent local Architect and was nearly ready to start construction. However, both Johnson and his general manager Jack Ramsey were not satisfied with Architect J. Manor Matson s proposed Beaux Arts style proposal. Although dissatisfied with the proposed building, neither Johnson or any of his team could come up with suggestions on how to improve the design. At this point Johnson decided to search for a new Architect. He wanted a beautiful, pure, and completely American image for his company (1), but even more importantly, he wanted a place where his employees would be happy to work (1). It was this decision that not only brought the S.C. Johnson Son company into the 20th century, but also brought about a second renaissance in the career of Frank Lloyd Wright. In Frank Lloyd Wright and the Johnson Wax buildings Jonathan Lipman chronologically documents the interpersonal relationship between Herbert Johnson... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johnson meanwhile becomes a man enamored with the Architect who he has hired, while occasionally having moments of intense doubts brought on by conversations with other members of his company and the construction team. Lipman makes few assertions which are not almost immediately followed by a quote or the full text of a letter. In many ways it feels as though Lipman acts more as an editor than as an author, merely creating transitions between the quotes, and providing context for otherwise raw information. This theme is continued through the extensive illustrations provided throughout the book. Almost every time a detail is discussed or a construction method described, it is paired with a matching

Theories Of Rational Choice Theory

Introduction

When a natural scientist is interested in how something works, he usually observes, then constructs a theory which helps to interpret what he sees. Following the building of a model, the results of the experiment tell whether the theory correctly explained the phenomenon in question. Even in the case of the physical sciences, the construction of a model requires assumptions to be made, leading to the model omitting certain, preferably unimportant effectors. The same is true about models built by economists to explain social phenomena. Sudgen defined models as credible worlds, i.e. deliberate constructions of an abstract entity by the modeller, resulting in a parallel/counterfactual world, which resembles only aspects of our ... The rational agent has preferences and prospects, other core ingredients of rational choice theory. Preferences represent subjective evaluation of options by the agent, they are contextualised (the choice is between consumption bundles rather than individual goods) and bear a number of assumptions about their nature. These include asymmetry, transitivity, completeness; and ranking all lotteries involving alternatives, ranking all compound lotteries involving initial lotteries, ranking all compound lotteries involving all compound lotteries, and so on ad infinitum (stated as further requirements on rationality theory by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern). Asymmetry means that if an agent prefers a to b, he does not prefer b to a. Transitivity entails that if an agent prefers a to b and b to c, he also prefers a to c. Completeness refers to the assumption that an agent either prefers something to something else, or else is indifferent between them. However, it can happen that people are mot always indifferent to the options they do not ranked as preferred the resulting incomplete rankings are normal.

Preferences are determined to be a psychological attitude: the agent compares various items and ranks which ones he likes better than others (the preferences). The probability function represents the agent s beliefs about the states of the world, while the interval valued (or carinal) utility function stands for the agent s relative desires for the basic

The Role Of Parents Sport Socialization Of Youth

Paper:

The Role of Parents in Sport Socialization of Youth

Introduction Socialization is the process in which an individual becomes a member of society. Parents are the most significant agent in the socialization of their children. They have a tremendous influence on the type of people their children grow up to be. They pass on their beliefs and values to their children and influence their child s personality and morals. In sports, there is also a process of socialization, in which the individual becomes a part of the athletic community. In this process, parents also posses significant influence over their children (Quinton, 2012). They decide whether or not their children play sports, which sports their children may play, and they can greatly affect their child s enjoyment and performance in the sport. This influence can either lead to positive or negative effects on the children s experience with sport. This depends on the level of involvement and the nature of that involvement (Shwarzlose, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the ways by which parents influence their child s process of socialization in sport, and identify the positive and negative effects associated with the different methods. This paper will also provide several case studies of professional athletes and evaluate the parents involvement in the athletes career.

Cost Of A Private And Domestic Nature

The first part of the question arises issues of deductibility of certain expenses, and apportionment between the partly private using and partly used as income producing purpose.

Deductions

A deduction would only be available where the requirements of ITAA 1997 s 8 1 are satisfied. To be deductible under s 8 1, the expense must be:

1. Incurred in gaining or producing the taxpayer s assessable income, or

2. Necessarily incurred in carrying on a business for the purpose of gaining or producing the taxpayer s assessable income.

But not:

1. A loss or outgoing of a capitalnature.

2. A loss or outgoing of a private or domestic nature.

3. Incurred in relation to gaining or producing the taxpayer s exempt income or non assessable non exempt income, or

4. Otherwise prevented from being deductible under another provision of ITAA 1997.

Among the other rules, the above second negative limb provides that the expense must not be of a private or domestic nature. So the private using part of the property (upstairs) will not qualify any deductions. But the set up of the downstairs for Bill s physiotherapy business makes this part of the property producing assessable income. Therefore expenditures incurred in property maintenance and repairing could be deductible against Bill s business income depending on circumstances. While Bill may claim some of deductions for his expenditures, he will be liable for capital gain tax when he sold the property.

Motivational War Speech In Henry V

Shakespeare

I enjoyed reading the motivational war speech from Henry V by William Shakespeare, because it is a fantastic speech full of eloquent language that motivated a great victory. Shakespeare is one of my favorite authors because of his literary genius. Throughout his plays, he uses vivid and powerful language to illustrate the events of the play. In the context of the speech, king Henry Vstares death in the face as he leads an army unprepared to fight the better equipped, and much larger French army. When Henry overhears a soldier expressing his feelings of dismay, he delivers a motivational speech about glory, honor, and brotherhood.

My favorite aspect about Shakespeare is that he never simply tells the reader what is happening. Instead,

Gender Roles In The Movie Gidget

Gidget: Breaking Waves and Gender Role Gidget, a 1959 film about a young girl who falls in love with surfing, helped establish a prominent foundation for surfing in California. To some, the film may simply be a feel good story about surfing and American teen culture. To others, it s about breaking stereotypical genderroles and their associated societal norms. The film released soon after World War II and the subsequent baby boom. This was a time with gave Americans a fresh new look on life, and a time when many young adults and teens had plenty of leisure time. Gidget also marked the end of an era and the start of a new one. Surfing and Gidget play a monumental role in shaping this new era by defying gender roles and leaving a lasting imprint on society. In 1950 s society, both women and men had their place. Although men may have more opportunities and differentiation than women, they both still have their places. Generally, a womans literal place is in the household, often the kitchen to be more exact. The typical housewife wears a conservative dress, heels, pearls, and possibly an apron depending on whether they are on duty or not. This standard lifestyle of women is portrayed well through Gidget s mother. Gidget, however, does not seem to want to follow in the footsteps of her mother in this jail cell of a stereotypical matriarchal role. Instead of wiping cake batter off her fingers, Gidget would rather wipe sand off her feet after a long day of surfing. While

V2w Teaching Philosophy

Teaching Philosophy I first emerged into my dance career and training at age of 13. What started as an hobby immediately turned into a passion of mines unexpectedly and from that point I desperately wanted to continue my passion of dance. I first trained in hip hop, contemporary, ballet, West African and improvisation. All together my dance director and former Urban Bush Women Valerie Winborne Anderson combined all these styles together forming the dance fusion company V2W. In the 8 years of training with V2W I developed a deep connection in dance my dancing. This experience shifted my original perceptions of dance and I must say that this experience helped with foundation and the development in my pedagogy and teaching philosophy. During my freshman in college I ventured off into doing my own work. I first landed my teaching opportunities at the Salvation Army Kroc Center and the Historical Attucks Theater in Norfolk, VA. I worked with both children and adults and I ve also had the pleasure to work with children at risk and children with physical and mental disabilities. From this teaching experience I began to structure teaching my teaching philosophy. I was moved by the unique individual qualities and community that we devolved together in these spaces. I was able to recognize the importance of individuality in dance and how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In closing my goals as an dance educator is to uplift, inspire, and build community with others. I want my teaching to be influential to my students simply because that s what ALL my teachers have done for me and I feel a strong responsibility to keep this going. Although, this is just my beginning I wish to change lives through dance by offering my students a wonderful and amazing dance experience that we can create

An Examination Into The Respective Proofs Of St. Aquinas

An Examination into the Respective Proofs of St. Anselm and St. Aquinas During the Medieval Period, philosophers shifted their focus primarily to proving the existence of God, as well as other religious tenets. Two Saints of the Catholic Church, St. Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinas, developed their own respective proofs for the existenceof God. These proofs have gained fame over the subsequent centuries and still face debate and comparison today. Although both St. Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinasoffer proofs for the existence of God, the proofs differ drastically due to the distinct argumentative methods utilized by each author, as well as the differing overall strengths and weaknesses each proof yields. To begin comparing the proofs, one must first state them. St. Anselm s proof is most clearly described by defining God as that than which no greater can be conceived (Melchert, 260). With this definition in mind, one can contemplate St. Augustine s Great Chain of Being and realize that existence gives something more being, or more greatness, than non existence (Melchert, 261). It follows, then, that we grasp an idea of God, which would be greater if it actually existed, therefore it (our idea of God) exists. Anselm s definition of God and Augustine s theory of the Great Chain of Being are the only requirements for Anselm s proof of the existence of God to work. St. Thomas Aquinas actually posits five separate proofs, but due to length constraints, this paper will only

Explain Why I Should Have A Dog

As people have said a dog is a man s best friend . I m a boy so does that mean that I don t have a best friend? Most of the days that I come back to my house I am alone because my dad is working, my mom is out with her friends, and my brother is at school.
