Third Breaking Down His Most Important Philosophies

Michael Diaz Professor Keedy April 17, 2015 Core Comp. II Discovery Draft Part 2 Third Breaking down his most important philosophies: I.Present and explain in depth the each of the following: A.How he came up with such ideas. B.Provide example/ apply to life: 1.Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals 2.Metaphysical Foundations of Natural Science 3.Critique of Practical Reason 4.Critique of the Power of Judgment 5.Critique of Pure Reason a.Knowledge b.Metaphysics Topic: Critique of Pure Reason In order to understand Kant s position, we must first understand the philosophical environment that influenced his thinking. There are two major historical movements in the early modern period of philosophy that had a very large impact on Kant: Empiricism and Rationalism (Kemerling). Kant argues that both the method and the content of philosophers arguments contain important flaws. A central epistemological problem for philosophers in both movements was determining how we can escape from within the confines of the human mind and the immediately knowable content of our own thoughts to acquire knowledge of the world outside of us. The Empiricists sought to accomplish this through the senses and a posteriori reasoning (McCormick) . A posteriori reasoning depends upon experience or contingent events in the world to provide us with information. For example Obama was president of the United States in 2010, is something that I can know only through experience. A priori

Role Of Creon In Antigone

There s a common saying of, what goes up must come down . Likewise, in many of Aristotle s most successful tragedies, a key character is often put into place with a fatal flaw that completely turns his or her world upside down; furthermore, the story of Antigone is no exception. Although many characters seem to show some of the characteristics of a tragic hero, Creon is most notably the tragic hero of this story due to his high role in the Theban society, his fatal flaw or hamartiaof hubris, as well as the anagnorisisand catastrophe he faces.

One of the many reasons Creon is the tragic hero in Antigone comes from his role of high nobility in the city of Thebes. As mentioned in his decree, Creon is the next in line to take the throne of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Creon first becomes aware of his error for not following god s law when he realizes that he has been foolish when he states, My mind misgives / The laws of the gods are mighty, and a man must serve them/ To the last day of his life! (Scene 5, 878 880). Although Creon locks away Antigone, he comes to his senses after Teiresias, the blind prophet, convinces Creon that he has committed unacceptable acts in the eyes of the gods. Creon s recognition of his unjust actions stresses his role as the tragic hero of Antigone. Moreover, when Creon attempts free Antigone, he still ends up in a catastrophe to which Creon cries, I have killed my son and my wife./ I look for comfort; my comfort lies here dead. / Whatever my hands have touched has come to nothing./ Fate has brought all my pride to a thought of dust. (Exodos, 1035 1038). Although Creon tries to change his destiny by releasing Antigone, he is too late. The gods do not tolerate pride; therefore, Creon is punished with the suicide of his son, Haemon, and wife, Eurydice. Creon is faced with a sudden disaster that turns his world around for the worse and makes him a tragic

Social Worker Reflection Paper

In this video, the social worker s role was that of a therapist. Dr. Siri Singh sat with his client to discuss some of the issues Kathryn Hudson and her alter ego Katy Perry has been experiencing over the years. Kathryn sought guidance, acceptance, affirmation and explanation with this session and I do believe the therapist was able to achieve this for his client. The therapist, or Dr. Singh, created a safe environment for Kathryn to speak her mind. In the very beginning of the session, the therapist tells Kathryn to sit back and relax, in an attempt to help Katy feel that this is a nurturing and comfortable space for her; and I perceived it to have been an effective strategy for therapist and client in this situation. Dr. Singh was asked probing questions and actively listened through out the entire session, which builds trust with the client. I perceived his body language to be very open, because he had his chest facing towards her; this arms by his side and legs leanly outwardly. This type of body language suggests openness and that the person is willing to receive information.

Dr. Singh also practiced very good verbal and non verbal cues that he was actively listening to his client as they spoke. He would nod his head, and every few minutes say, yes , to signal his understanding. Danish, D Augelli, and Hauer explain this to be self disclosure, using verbal and non verbal expressions. Examples include smiling, shaking ones head in disbelief, or in the case with Dr. Singh, nodding his head. Another technique the therapist used that builds trust was his consistent determination to not let Kathryn speak negatively about herself (17:00, 21:51, 27:58, 31:08). I believe this to be a vital skill and important detail to ay attention to and I commend the therapist for making that important. This ties in with the empowerment theory, I believe. Dr. Singh, instead of letting the client say something negative about herself he would have the client use a different and more positive term. An example of this was when Kathryn described herself as bizarre, and the therapist said he did not like that word, and helped his client think of a more positive descriptive word such as exotic, intriguing or eccentric. This builds

Summary Of Seven Years In Tibet

Ann Braun RS 390 Movie Review ( Seven Years in Tibet) November 20, 2017 For this student of Buddhism, the movie Seven Years in Tibet was a historically correct, religiously sound, and moving depiction of the beauty and power of this eastern non monotheistic faith. Furthermore, the grand biography of the Austrian climber Heinrich Harrier, not only illustrated the supernatural aspects of the faith, but also its folkloric magic. Additionally, it tackled the political struggles, both externally and parochially, that embroiled the country in the aftermath of World War II. Moreover, so poignant were these struggles that the Chinese government banned both the lead actor and the producer from ever visiting China. Lastly, the main theme of the movie, was one of purification and redemption in the tale of how an egotistical mountain climber evolved when exposed to this compassionate and generous culture. Jean Jacque Annaud sets most of this epic film in the pilgrimage city of Lhasa, were the young Dalai Lamaresides( Strong 264). Here the story illustrates the many oddities of Tibetan Buddhism such as the magic rituals that are both part of both Buddhism and earlier folk beliefs. For instance, the Tibetans are most afraid of foreigners, and the movie shows the people using Tantras ( magic), and making hand gestures or mudras to drive away evil (Robinson 123 124). For example, travelers sticking their tongues out when meeting strangers, a ritual for which neither the text nor the film offered any explanation. Just as interesting is the sounds that transport the viewer into the setting, with hand clapping and bells, both rituals for keeping evil away( Robinson 124). Moreover, the most powerful use of tantra magic is a scene where the monks have created a large mandala or power circle, in hopes of affecting a peaceful solution to the conflict with the communist Chinese government. When the Chinese generals stride through the meticulously created chalk masterpiece, destroying the work as they go, the audience understands that both Tibetand Buddhism are doomed. Another example of the supernatural is the Dalai Lamas prophetic powers, as the thirteenth predicts that foreigners will overrun Tibet, and the

Testicles can be found on the male patient within the scrotum. The normal testicle measures three to five centimeters in length, two to four centimeters in width, and three centimeters in anterior posterior measurements prospectively. Each testicle is encapsulated by the tunica albuginea. The support system for the vessels and ducts of the testicleis called the mediastinum. The Epididymis is comprised of three parts, the head, body, and tail. The relative size of the normal epididymis is six to seven centimeters in length. The echogenicity is usually brighter than that of the testis. The normal testis echotexture is uniform throughout in appearance. The appendix teste, when visualized, can be found in the upper portion of the testis. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The gland is composed of two lobes that lie on each side of the trachea and is connected centrally by the isthmus. The isthmus overlies the trachea. Surrounding the thyroid are many muscles and vessels. It is important to acknowledge and recognize the surrounding anatomy of the thyroid gland. The average size of each gland found the normal adult is forty to sixty millimeters in length, and thirteen to eighteen millimeters in anterior posterior measurements. The thickness of the isthmus is usually four to six millimeters in thickness. Sonographically, the healthy thyroid appears as medium to high level echoes, with the same echotexture throughout. The superior thyroid artery and vein are found in the superior portion of each lobe, and the inferior artery and vein can be found in the inferior portion of each thyroid lobe. It can be very easy for an untrained sonographer to confuse the esophagus with a thyroid mass. The esophagus can be located usually on the left side. The main cause for nodular thyroid disease is hyperplasia. Whenever hyperplasia causes a relative increase in volume or size to the gland it is then termed goiter. Thyroid cancers are rare, and most biopsies that are performed on nodules are benign. Usually cancerous thyroid nodules will appear homogeneous, hypoechoic, and are typically taller than wide. The appearance of both cancerous and benign nodules can vary from cystic components, calcifications, mixed echotextures, and different echogenicity s. Hashimotos thyroiditis is the most common type of thyroiditis, and is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in North America. Sonographically, the appearance of the thyroid with this disease will appear course, and have mixed

Essay on Fear and Loathing on The Campaign Trail

Fear and Loathing On The Campaign Trail 72 was a book about a writer for the Rolling Stone and his coverage of the presidential elections in 1972. These elections were between the incumbent Republican, President Richard Nixon and the Senator from South Dakota, George McGovern. The election of 1972 saw McGovern come out of the democratic National Convention over SenatorsMuskie and Humphreybut only to lose to the incumbent president Richard Nixon.

Hunter S. Thompson writes about the Election of 1972 from December 1971, before any primaries, to December 1972 after Nixon has won the election. It is a truthful first person account of what happened during the presidential race that year with much personal, side talk about Thompson s life,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In the October chapter, he calls the president a, drooling red eyed beast with the legs of a man and the head of a giant hyena... heading toward Watergate. He then comes back after this metaphor to say, Ah...nightmares, nightmares. But I was only kidding. The president would never act tat weird. At least not during football season. In these passages he uses a metaphor to show the president in a very negative light and to stress on Nixon s negative connection with Watergate. His next statement is a sarcastic phrase saying the president would never act this way during football season. This sarcastic comment shows President Nixon as a savage beast whose only real knowledge is in football. This style of writing is what made Hunter Thompson, Gonzo Journalism, and this book very famous. The book is a very opinionated story of the election of 1972. It follows all the major political events leading up to elections like the primaries and the caucuses. The chapters are all split up in months and chronicle the major events and outcomes of the landmark events during each month. Along the way he includes many interviews that he took and many conversations between many of the people involved in the election. The book is a great insight to politics and gives a non sugarcoated, non media altered view of politics. It talks about the griminess and political tactics used by the political parties and the candidates

Assertive Case Management Model Paper

According to Frankel, Gelman (2012), various level of intervention, must be the solution to someone s problem, including our own, therefore, the two case management models I selected was assertive and strength based case management. Assertive case management or Assertive Community Treatment (Act), is an evidence based practice, that provides an optimistic outcome for clients with severe mental health. Assertive case management/ACT help clients integrate into the community and provide clients with intensive assistance from a multidisciplinary team in the community. The team works together to provide a positive effect on the outcomes and quality of the client s success. The team can consist of clinical psychology, social worker, occupational... To help them talk about what they saw, experience, and what they are afraid of, even in their present environment. The strength base case management could aid both young teens and the grandmother, by strengthen their individual well being, let them cope with any future challenges and past experiences, as well as work on their relationship as a family. In the individual case study 2, assertive case management can be used for Charlene by way of the multidisciplinary team working with her, to build up her trust of people, so she knows she could rely on others to take care of her and treat her with respect. She would be comfortable to talk about her experiences and strength in her success. Using the strength based case management, Charlene would also be about to learn to take care of her well being, to be independent and carefree again and feel confident to trust again. In the case study 3, of the individual Jason, both assertive and strength based case management would be a great fit for him. In assertive case management, he would be able to work with
