The Gender Pay For The Workforce Ever Since The Fair Labor...

According to Kim (2015), there has been a great deal of change to the workforce ever since the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 was enacted. Since this time, there has been a huge influx of women entering into the job market, where there had not been prior to the law. This meant that during the time of the laws creation there had not been near the women receiving pay for their services like there were in the years to follow. To help modernize this change amendments needed to be added and this included the Equal Pay Act of 1963. This Act made it mandatory for employers to offer equal pay to both menand women who perform equal work (Kim, 2015, p. 648). However, since this law has been created there has been an ongoing problem with making sure it is being followed and still today there is a genderpay gap. The American Association of University Women (2014), describe the gender pay gap to be the difference in men s and women s average earnings. These differences are typically stated as either an actual pay gap or an earnings ratio among men and women. To calculate an earnings ratio, one needs to obtain the average wage earned by women and divide that number by the average wage earned by men. To see whether there is an actual pay gap, one needs to take the average wage earned by men subtract the average wage earned by women and then divide that number by the average wage earned by men. The Department of Laborin 2012 reported the pay gap in average weekly earnings to be that

Some Lines For A Younger Brother Summary

In the reading Some Lines for a Younger Brother , the writer brought back her memories of what she remembered from her younger brother. Sue started with the details of when her youngest brother was born. She proceded to talk about how it impacted her family and brother when her father passed away in a car accident. Her familyhad to move to the Manzanar Relocation Center. When the writer started talking about moving to the relocation center she started bringing in more details, this was also a main point and very big part of the reading. Her brother started to change his ways and wasn t the same after the family had moved. After the family was able to leave the center, her brother was different about school and decided he didn t need to get his diploma. This seems to have unsettled the family and they disagreed with him, the family didn t understand why he didn t think he needed a diploma. While he was searching for school, he broke the news that he was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The children took care of him when the parents were busy and were very fond of Tets. I was sad that the father had passed away right before Christmas, I felt sorry for them. I felt the same pain as I m sure they felt, when they unexpectedly lost their father. My aunt died unexpectedly one day, and our family has never been the same since. I m sure that s how it was for them. It made me feel sorry for the family when they had to give up everything they worked for and had, then having to leave their home and go to a relocation center. That must ve been very hard and painful for them, to say goodbye to everything they knew. The older children went off into the military, and I wanted to wish them the best, hoping they d come home safe. Same for Tets when he went into the Army, it made me feel sorry for them and wanted to help them with anything when Tet passed away while he was across

Justice Can Be Described As The Fairness, Equity,...

Justice can be described as the fairness, equity, evenhandedness, neutrality, honesty, righteousness, and morality given to the people by the governments, as well as other people. Justice should be given all around the world, but it is not always given. From the past to this day, there has been a lot of justice, and the society along with the governments have come a long way to reach the justice we have today. A person who played a major role in giving us the justice we see today is Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King was a major factor in the laws we see today regarding equality, and he set the stage for what society should be like today. An analysis of, A Letter for Birmingham Jail, and, Segregation Now, will tell what... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that segregation does these two things, but I also believe that it does more. Based on what King wrote in his letter, I believe that segregation is morally wrong and that segregation went on and hurt the society back then, and if only there was no segregation, the world would have been so much easier to live in (King). King had a wonderful understanding and relationship between the meanings of just and law. King believed that the two should be used together by the government authorities for the better of the people in the United States. He believed that when a law is created regarding the people, that just and unjust should be put into the factor. He as well as a lot of us would argue for laws to be created morally right for the sake of the country s society. King believed that for a law to be considered a law, that it should serve justice to the people it is over, and not be morally wrong which is not what the government should have the control to do (King). Some more comes about justice and equality some during the 1970 s. In the 1970 s a judge gave an order to a city to integrate the two high schools in Tuscaloosa. The schooling systems that were segregated before, were finally integrated, and they became one of the

Aquifix Injection

It was noted in preliminary trials that the Aquifix injection produced side effects such as sodium concentrations in blood plasma increased, and one of the preservatives has been linked to stimulation of the adrenal glands. The interrelationships between the hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenal glands create the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA axis) which is responsible for controlling the body s reaction to stress, and regulating many of the body s processes (Greenwood et al., 2013). The stress response is triggered through sympathetic stimulation of the central medulla region of the adrenal glands.

As a result, blood glucose levels elevate due to the liver converting glycogen to glucose (glycogenolysis), blood vessels constrict (vasoconstriction), and the heart rate rises to increase blood flow to muscles, brain, and heart while diverting blood from temporarily nonessential organs (Marieb Nicpon Marieb, 1997). These physiological changes aid in operating at peak efficiency when endangered, competing, or whenever a high level of performance is required which is not usually negative in short periods (eg. 20mins). When the fight or flight status is prolonged, complications arise, thus creating an issue with prolonged or over use of the Aquifix injection. Unequal amounts of two hormones, epinephrine and norepinephrine, are released. Epinephrine is the more potent stimulator of the heart and metabolic activities, while norepinephrine influences more on the peripheral vasoconstriction (blood pressure) (Marieb Nicpon Marieb, 1997). Prolonged overstimulation of the adrenal glands results in the release of their steroid hormones; glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids from the outer cortex of the adrenals. The secretion of mineralocorticoids, in particular aldosterone result in the retention of sodium and water by the kidneys, and increased blood pressure and volume, while glucocorticoids secreting result in an increased blood glucose level, while fats and proteins (from muscles) are broken down for energy, thus giving reasoning for some of the side effects produced by the Aquifix

The Transportation Revolution began in the early 1800 s as an effort to dramatically improve transportation in America. The Transportation Revolution included greatly improved roads, the development of canals, and the invention of the steamboat and railroad. In 1800, there were only 23 cities with over 100,000 citizens by 1900 there were 135 cities with over 100,000 citizens. There were several types of cities: cities that focused on the textile industry, cities that produced whiskey and hemp, and other southern cities that produced agriculture crops. The Industrial Revolution is one of the major causes of the Transportation Revolution; each of the three economic regions needed an affordable yet fast means of transporting their goods to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The road initially was a free road but soon became a toll road. Although these roads helped, shipping freight across them was expensive.

Next introduced were steamboats. Shipping by steamboats was cheaper and faster. If one used a wagon, there was the cost of lifting the cargo off the ground and keeping it there as well as the cost of moving the vehicle forward. A water vessel had the advantage of only having the cost of moving forward because the water lifted the cargo. The shallow draft steamboat, however, could carry large amounts of cargo even against the flow of a river. Robert Fulton s Clermont proved the practicality of steamboats in 1807. The Enterprise was introduced by Henry Shreve in 1814 and proved to be the answer to transportation across shallow western waters. By 1820, there were 60 steamboats on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers and countless others elsewhere.

Steamboats could ply the waters of lakes and rivers but could not go where there was no waterway so people built canals. The first successful canal was The Erie Canal in New York stretching from the Hudson River at Albany, New York westward to Buffalo, New York. The canal on Lake Erie stretched 364 miles and operated twenty four hours a day seven days a week, opening the old Northwest and connecting it to New York Harbor. Its production started in 1817; it turned a profit long before it was finished in 1825. It sparked a canal boom as others tried to mimic

Visiting the Theravada Buddhist temple

For my cultural event I decided to revisit a Theravada Buddhist temple that I once visited previously but rather briefly. Ordinarily, I wouldn t visit the temple since it is a different religious practice than my own. This temple is called the Wat Florida Dhammaram. The name may seem bewildering to most people but I have learned what the name means. I found out at the temple that the word Wat in three different countries (Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos) is defined as a Buddhist monastery or temple. This temple differs in that it is a TheravadaBuddhist Temple. Prior to my visit at the temple I never knew what Theravada meant. Theravada is the more conservative of the two major traditions of BuddhismTheravada and Mahayana. What I discovered at the temple was beauty and culture every where I laid my eyes upon. At the Buddhist temple I was in awe of the appeal of the temples edifices, statues, and of course the scenery. The temple is decorated heavily in gold with intricate elaborate designs, numerous statues dispersed around the temple, and tall southern oak trees providing fresh air and shade. The Meditation Hall (Uposatha hall) caught my eye immediately as I entered the Buddhist temple. The Uposatha hall is used for religious ceremonies, meditation, and Dhamma study. While in the Uposatha hall that several restrictions are strictly observed. Restrictions such as conservative clothing must be worn at all times. No shoes are allowed inside the temple which I know is common

Summary Of Devils Child By Jucida Priest

Racial Prejudice By The Film Crash Essay

The term racial prejudice is defined as having a negative belief that is unfairly applied to all individuals of an ethnic group even if such individuals have different characteristics as in personality, appearance, and perspective. In society, many individuals believe that racial prejudice only focuses on one particular social group, whereas others view racial prejudice pertaining to all races. However, racial prejudice is without a doubt a phenomenon, one that isn t specific to one ethnic or social group, instead prevalent in all groups of people that affect or are affected by the institution of racism. Different associations and relationships play a vital role in how we perceive others, at times people view others through the lens of racial prejudice. Crash, a movie directed by (put director s name), shows different ethnic groupsthat face challenges within their lives as they clash into one another by certain situations. In addition, Crash itself also focuses on many racial prejudices that occur in society. The film Crash highlights the very notion that racial prejudice is experienced by many groups because various ethnic groups are constantly violated for having different physical appearances; mocked for having a different culture, and excluded from opportunities within society s social structure. Different ethnic groups all go through racial prejudice with one another. As one particular group goes through being physically or verbally violated, so does other social
