Alberta Oil Sand Analysis

Oil has become extremely vital in our society, so vital that it has affected developed and developing countries. It is a massive contributor to economic growth as well as environmental destruction. The Alberta Oil Sands has destroyed acres of local ecosystems, but has also achieved and ensured that Canada stays as an economic power. The economical, cultural, and political benefits the oil sands give to Canada makes it an asset they can not function without. The oil sands have been Canada s major contributor to their economic activity for many years. The oil industry has led to benefits for other industries such as business services, manufacturing, retail, finance and insurance. The impacts of the oil sands economically can also be seen in the national employment rates and statistics. People are immigrating from countries outside of Canada and other regions of Canada to move to Albertain order to get high paying jobs from the development of the oil sands. Recently Canada s cost for oil has increased and oil sands producers are struggling as oil prices begin to plummet, and even the most efficient... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This project is not only valued by the province, country, and the entire world but it is also valued by Albertans themselves. As of July 2013, there were 114 recorded oil sands projects located in Alberta. This goes to show how big the project is. Employment is a one of the biggest benefits of the oil sands project. In 2012, around 121,500 people were working for Alberta s upstream energy sector, which includes conventional oil and gas, and mining (Alberta Government). Estimated profit from the projects was around $3.56 billion in 2012 2013 and is still growing. This revenue is used to help fund many public services in Alberta. Within the next 25 years employment on the oil sands is expected to grow to over 500,000 jobs; and is currently affecting the jobs of 112,000 people throughout

Comparison Of Harper s Weekly And Time Magazine

Have you ever thought about what people back in the day read in their spare time since we all just immediately get on our phones? I compared and contrasted the August 2015 Time magazine, and the June 4th 1864 edition of Harper s Weekly. I have come to the realization that when people say times have changed, they are not kidding. It is crazy to read in between the lines and see how Americans lived over 150 years ago. The way things are placed and discussed are very different in both Harper s Weekly and TimeMagazine, but the two are similar in some ways also. Although there are many differences between the two, there are some similarities. I found that both have an article or two about foreign countries. By having these articles this means that Americans have always been interested in what other countries are up to. For example, in Time Magazine on page 11 there is an article written by Julia Zorthian that talks about Brazil turning against their president, and the antigovernment rallies. Another example in Time Magazine is on page 40 and it talks about the explosion that happened in a chemical warehouse in Tianjin, China. They said that this explosion is a symbol of the way others look at China. The covers on both of the magazines are pictures of political figures that are impacting and did impact Americans in the United States. In Time Magazine Donald Trump is on the cover, and in Harper s Weekly William T. Sherman is on the front page. While Sherman did something brave

The Influence Of The Enigma

The Enigma was created at the end of World War I and patented in 1919 by Arthur Scherbius, a German engineer. The Enigma was a electro magnetic ciphering machine and it was used by the German military as a way of communicating securely. As time went on, the Enigma was updated, and made more secure. It was used throughout World War II until the end of the war, though the Germans didn t realize that the Enigma had been cracked by the British. Arthur Scherbius first released the Enigma for commercial sale in 1923, barely anyone showed any interest in the cipher machine. The first two models were heavy and they weren t easy to use. He released two other models a few years later, which were lighter, and were not as hard to use. He started getting inquiries about his machine from different governments. The German military eventually took on his creation in the late 1920 s. Around 100,000 Enigma machines were sold. This is how the Enigma worked: The user would type in what they wanted to encrypt and there would be a light that popped up after each letter was typed showing the substitution letter chosen by the settings of the cipher and then they would record the letters given to them and then they would send the message. The receiver of the message would only be able to decrypt it if they had the settings of the rotors on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The French and the British couldn t crack the Enigma even with all the information that they had received, so they shared the documents with the Polish. They were able to read the Germans messages for a few years. The Germans starting changing the rotor settings every twenty four hours making it almost impossible for the Polish to read the messages anymore. The Polish shared all that they knew about the Germans Enigma with the

Compare And Contrast Cesar Chavez And Nelson Mandela

The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela fought so that people of every race could be free. He saved many lives for doing that. Cesar Chavez fought so that farm workers can have better working conditions. Nelson Mandela and Cesar Chavez fought for fairness, inspired social change, and championed human rights. Nelson Mandela was an amazing person because he gave every human of color their freedom back. He believed that everyone should have freedom and those who take it away from someone is full of hatred. He once said, A man who takes away another man s freedom is a prisoner of hatred, his is locked behind the bars of prejudice and narrow mindedness. . He also

The Origins Of The First World War

The Origins of the First World War The Road To War Is Paved With Good Alliances Did a failure in alliance cause World War 1? Who s who? Great Britain had a very large empire mostly in Africa and Asia. Britain was choosing to keep out of all matters in Europe that didn t concern them, this policy was called Splendid Isolation and for some time, it was very splendid for Britain, they were once the top for industrial and maritime industrial. Because of Splendid Isolation, it was very hard for anybody to know where Britain stood on matters (Splendid Isolation. History BlogSpot). They needed to protect their overseas empire, so the British had a very large navy. The French had a well trained army, however France was behind Britain and German in economic wealth, it made less steel and coal than the other two countries. France and Germany had already had conflicts in the past when France lost Alsace and Lorraine to Germany back in the Franco Prussian War of 1871 and they wanted it back, however they were just no match for Germany. For now, France had to wait Russia was the biggest, but poorest country in Europe that Tsar Nicholas ruled, however he had a very odd way of leading his country, violently stopping unpopular opinions and allowing people he liked to have a say in Russia s policy making. Russia had a big army but they were behind on new technology. The rest of Russia s people were simple farmers, with over 80% of the population doing some kind of land related job.

My Favorite Dog Essay

Owning a dog is a lot of work You have to take them for walks, runs, feed them, cuddle with them, and play with them. Getting a puppy is even more work because you have to train them and get them on schedule. Bulldogs have great personalities. They are cuddly, playful, but are not the best for children unless they grew up around kids. Since I was around 4 years old, I have been around dogs. The first one we had was a English bulldog. He had short, stubby little legs. But we were young, and he would always be knocking us down on our butts. Then we got an american bulldogfrom my Dad s friend who was moving. She was my favorite dog even though she was lazy most of the time. She would jump onto my bunk bed with me and was always gentle with me. She would always end up being my pillow, and I loved that. So I want to figure out which dog would be better for my lifestyle now. Based on my research and how busy I can get at times, I think it would be better to have a Olde English bulldog puppy because they are more relaxed. It would also be less expensive for me. The price of a bulldog varies because you have to buy breeding rights if you want to breed your dog. I choose to research bulldogs because growing up I had 3 of them, and I would love to have lots of them. The breeds all had very different personalities, and I loved them all, but an Olde English bulldog can cost up to $2,500. For an American bulldog, typically you can expect the cost to average around $1500 $4000

The Apotheosis Of The Dance At The Allen Chapel

On Saturday, May 9th, the RIT Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra put on a performance titled the Apotheosis of the Dance at the Allen Chapel within the Schmitt Interfaith Center. The performance began with the RIT Chamber Orchestra, featuring mostly stringed instruments, performing works of Mozart, Bach, and Grainger. After a short intermission, the RIT Orchestraentered and performed a piece composed by Beethoven. The majority of the concert was conducted by Michael E. Ruhling, with the exception of a few pieces performed by the Chamber Orchestra that did not require a conductor. The Orchestra consisted of string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections, and the Chamber Orchestra only had a string section with a flute soloist. The concert began immediately with the Chamber Orchestra s performance of Mozart s Divertimento in D major , K. 136. This piece consisted of the 3 movements, Allegro, Andante, and Presto, which follows the fast slow fast arrangement typical of the Classical era. Divertimento is one of Mozart s Salzburg symphonies, which are symphonies performed by only string sections. After the performance of this piece, the conductor commented on the 2nd violins part, and drew the conclusion that Mozart must have saved that role for either himself or an enemy. The second piece performed by the Chamber Orchestra was Bach s Suite No. 2 in B minor , BWV 1067. This piece did not require a conductor, and also featured a flute soloist, Maisa Peters. Their

The Most Vital Functions Of The Nervous System

The most vital functions of the nervous system is to provide information about the occurrence or threat of injury. One of the ways this is done is in form of pain. However, sometimes, established pain can go beyond its protective role, thus becoming a disease in itself than just being a symptom. This condition is called chronic pain. The injury or the precipitating event can be physical (like in case of phantom limb pain or post surgical pain), infection (as with post herpetic neuralgia), systemic disease (like with diabetic neuropathy), drug (chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy) or can sometimes be unknown (trigeminal neuralgia, migraine, cluster headache, etc.) Even today, the pathological processes involved in genesis, establishment and continuation of such diseases are poorly understood. Eventually, such painful conditions usually remain refractory to available treatments.

According to International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), globally, it has been estimated that 1 in 5 adults suffer from pain and that another 1 in 10 adults are diagnosed with chronic pain each year. Moreover, according to a recent (2014) article in the Journal of Pain, chronic pain is the most prevalent and disabling condition affecting at least 100 million Americans. It is also the most expensive public health condition with annual cost to society exceeding that of combined costs of diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases. Then, we have set of diseases that follow chronic pain. This

Hazardous Coal Ash

This is an interesting topic. I remembered that there was a piece of advertisement about spring water. It says We are not the producer of water but the transporter of nature spring water . I don t think this word can make sense in today s world. As many factories are built in the remote places, the industrial emission pollutes our waterways, ground water and drinking water. I d like to provide another resource about how hazardous coal ash is to water and health. It provides additional information about coal ash and its problems. Most coal ash comes from coal fired electric power plants. Actually, burning coal releases the greenhouse gasses that affect global climate. Moreover, Processing coal and transporting coal to the power plants adds

Lab Report On Nitroacetanilide

Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution:

Date Performed: 10/26/17 11/2/17

Experimenter: James Settles

Date: 11/6/17

Drawer: 11V

Objective: The objective of this experiment was to perform experiment that would nitrate Acetanilide and produce Nitroacetanilide, then also separate the para directing and ortho directing products of Nitroacetanilide by an electrophilic aromatic substitution by means of filtration and recrystallization. This lab also demonstrated how electrophilic aromatic substitution works with activating and deactivating groups.

Physical Properties and Hazards:

Synthetic Equation: Acetanilide reacts Nitronium to form O Nitroacetanilide and P Nitroacetanilide.

A thin layer chromatographywas run on the crude solid, the recrystallized solid and the filtrate from the recrystallization. The solid was dried until the next lab period, and was then weighed and a melting point was taken. For the TLC analysis 3 x s were drawn on the bottom portion of a TLC plate for the origins. A small amount of the crude Nitroacetanilide was dissolved in warm ethanol and spotted on the TLC plate. A small amount of the recrystallized Nitroacetanilide was dissolved in warm ethanol and spotted on the same TLC plate, and the same was done for the filtrate. A UV lamp was used to ensure that the right amount of sample was being used, then the plate was eluted in ethyl acetate. The plate was removed when the solvent had reached about 3⁄4 of the way to the top. The solvent was marked with the UV lamp, and the spots were circled to record in the lab notebook.

Rh-Null Syndrome

There are several genetic variants that give rise to rare D phenotypes. The Rh null syndrome (also called Rh deficiency syndrome) is the result of a mutation that results in a lack of all Rh antigens. Since these antigens function to maintain the RBC membrane, individuals with this syndrome have abnormally shaped RBCs, leaving them at risk for hemolytic anemia. Rh null patients are capable of forming antibodies to Rh antigens that can cause transfusion reactions; therefore they must receive bloodfrom other Rh null individuals.

Individuals having the weak D phenotype (Du) have low levels of expression of the D antigen. This phenotype is the result of an amino acid substitution that affects the insertion of the protein into the RBC membrane. However, all epitopes are present, so these individuals are not in danger of antibody formation following transfusion with D positive blood. In contrast, in persons having the partial D phenotype, a hybrid protein that lacks several epitopes is produced. Therefore, if those having the partial D phenotype receive D positive blood, they may produce an immune response to the missing epitope, causing a transfusion reaction.

Summary Of The Net Imagery In Oresteia

In the Oresteia, revenge drives the characters to act. Although they call it justice, it is not. Aeschylus uses net imagery to symbolize faith and destiny. When Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon and Cassandra, the net imagery acts as a symbol of terrible fate. However, then fate reverse. Now, Orestes is caught in Apollo s net and kills his own mother. Lastly, Athene changes the meaning of the net from one of chaos to that of order and justice. These uses of the net imagery help the reader focus on a crucial theme in the play: the superiority of a formal justice system to one based on the individual quest for revenge by progressively altering the nets meaning and its affect on those around it.

Clytemnestra s use of the net imagery focuses the reader on the drawback, that is, collateral damage, of a justice system that is based on the individual quest for revenge by emphasizing the collateral damage associated with revenge. As she stands over the bodies of Agamemnonand Cassandra she says: I wrapped in a great net not a fish could have slipped from the shoal (69). Involving the shoal in Clytemnestra s speech explains that with every revenge quest there are innocent people who suffer the repercussions. An avenger does not consider the bystanders surrounding the guilty person. Clytemnestra states that the net was so large that the fish could not escape the shoal. If the fish s fate is to be caught in the net yet it cannot escape the shoal, that means the shoal suffers the same

Team

4am. Be at the boathouse tomorrow at 4am, Coach reminded us as we finished preparing our boats. Everyone groaned. As much as the first race of the new season excited us, waking up that early wasn t something to look forward to. But, we did it. The next morning everyone showed up and was ready to take a bus for the next 3 hours. While some half asleep teenagers arrived earlier than others, by 4:30am the team was on the bus and ready to leave. The bus ride from Crystal Lake to Moline, IL at the earliest hours of the day is nothing close to the bus ride some of us took home from school the day before. It s pretty much kids sleeping in blankets or staring out the window while listening to music. At least for the first two hours. Until the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After five and a half hours of getting everything ready to go, it s finally time for the Men s 8+ boat to leave the dock. This is most of the guys first race of the season, besides those who raced earlier that day in the Men s 4+ race. After a couple of minutes of pre race pump up in a circle (seriously, we did that), it s time to get all hands on the boat. We bring the boat down to the dock master, the official who approves the boat s eligibility to race, and find out that we aren t allowed on the dock. No, we didn t have an illegal engine hidden under the boat to propel us to the finish line (although that would be pretty cool), but the regatta was running behind schedule. It became clear that we would have to wait even longer. As we waited for the time to come for us to put our boat in the water, it was easy to get annoyed with the officials. Especially after putting the boat in the water and being asked to bring it back off of the dock to wait yet again. Nonetheless, we had to move past the fact that we had been waiting for hours. We had to get our game faces on. When it was time to actually shove off the dock, nobody was truly in the zone . The row up the Mississippi River to the start line, which was against the current and the wind, also didn t help. Plus, once we were at the start line, we had to wait a few more minutes for the other boats to get there also. I have never wanted to just race as much
