Prison
The prisoners will serve their sentences at this five year old institution or at Valley State Prison, the nation s second largest women s prison, which recently opened across the street. The compounds occupy the tiny farm town of Chowchilla, where almond and alfalfa groves surround the 50,000 volt electrified fence. To the crop dusters above, the flat gray and peach buildings must look like a giant corrections butterfly, shielding up to 8,000 women in the 1,340 acre spread of its cinder block wings.
The predominant types of offenses women tend to commit petty theft, check forgery, drug possession are nonviolent and low level, yet women s rates of incarceration have steadily gone up, surpassing men s for the past 14 years. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Male inmates work their bodies constantly, doing hundreds of squat thrusts and jumping jacks even when restricted to a maximum security cage. Women, who fear the central yard, work out their anxiety with too much sleep, food and prescription pills.
Men s prisons divide the population by security level; women under minimum, medium and maximum security freely mix. Men tend to congregate by race, whether or not they prefer to in the free world. This is less true for women. Male gangs thrive in prison. Female gangs leave their colors on the street, some creating small families in prison with designated mothers, fathers, siblings for support.
Rarely do men become intimate with their keepers. Many women share their lives with officers shift after shift after shift. Men either honor orders or defy them. Women ask why.
Only 29 percent of the guards at the Central California Women s Facility are women. This fact worsens the already ancient problems of troubled women, many of whom are accustomed to coercive relationships, when they are placed in a highly sexualized, paramilitary setting in the custody mostly of men. An ongoing investigation of state prisons by the Human Rights Watch Women s Rights Project found that female inmates experienced some form of custodial sexual misconduct regardless of the prison or state; inappropriate sexual contact, verbal degradation, rape, sexual assault and unwarranted visual supervision were reported from California to New

Religious Visit Paper
When given the opportunity, I am usually open to and enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone. This project allowed me to do just that. For my religious visit, I visited Shaare Emeth, Reformed Jewish Synagogue on Saturday June 20, 2015 for their Shabbat Morning Worship Service at 11 a.m. It is located at 11645 Ladue Rd, St. Louis, MO 63141. The synagogue was an extremely modern looking building, and in my opinion looked like most churches that I have been to and am more familiar with. Pulling into the parking lot, there were newer vehicles and luxury vehicles, which made me believe most of the members were of a middle to high socioeconomic class. There was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everybody looked very cheerful and benevolent. It felt like one big family gathering. We entered the synagogue and there were plush chairs and carpet embellished with nature like colors and leaf designs. The roof was high, there was a lot of light, gold accents, a stained glass window, wooden beams that were exposed, as well as a wooden bureau, which housed the Torah. There were also candles and podium /table from which the rabbi spoke.
At the front, there were three Rabbis; two male and one female. This was the first evident sign that this temple was reformed, on the grounds that in Orthodox and some Conservative Judaism, leadership by a female is not permitted. Each of the three rabbis wore the talit, and one of them was the Cantor. He played a guitar and sang a song and the style reminded me of the praise and worship songs we sing at my church. He continued singing as people found seats. The service started with some singing in Hebrew. The lighting of the candles for Shabbat occurred next along with the reading of a blessing. Some more readings and songs followed that. A decent amount of the service was in Hebrew, particularly the singing, however there were also times that English was also spoken. Since the books were in Hebrew, which reads from right to left, the books opened in reverse. This took some getting used to; however, there were English translations. The following segment of the service is what I describe as a parade of the Torah. The Torah,

Without a doubt, the world of business is chiefly based on the aspects of supply and demand. Throughout history, a multitude of companies both big and small and offline and online have been able to grow and spread through providing the best services to customers. In the form of products and services, various companies have been able to build upon preexisting value ratings while at the same time using this as a template to help boost more sales down the line. However, as technology changed so did the power of promotion. For instance, prior to the invention of the radio, many companies had to rely either upon word of mouth or different forms of advertisingthrough print ads. This was particularly the key factors that aided in the growth and promotion of companies such as Sears throughout its creation and development in the late 1880s. In short, with the widespread availability of traveling through the newly introduced national railroad system, the founders created, passed around, and mailed their innovative catalogs to help spread word and deliver products to consumers (Brake, 88). Decades later with the invention of the radio, companies increasingly had much more bargaining power as they could literally speak directly to their audience. A few decades later, this overall level of marketing grew even more in reference to the actual presentation of products and services with the invention of the television. For the very first time in history, companies could literally

Misguided Feminist Reaction to A Streetcar Named Desire
The dramatic climax of A Streetcar Named Desire, clearly illustrates the mastery of author Tennessee Williams. The brilliantly constructed text, with its tragic story and enticing characters, propels the reader to a point in which he becomes emotionally involved in the dynamics of Williams world. Unfortunately, many feminists are negatively affected by Williams captivating writing style. In turn, feminists have developed an array of very strong opinions regarding the climax, often responding with a very personal and emotive discussion of the issues.
Concentrating on the dynamics of each character and his stance during the climax, feminists present an intelligent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the feminists sympathize with the character of Blanche whom they perceive as a delicate moth like creature, they should also accept the fact that she has been mingling in the affairs of spiders and is now caught in the web she has spun. This aspect of symbolism is usually not discussed by feminists, yet it is a critical feature of the text that must be considered to obtain a more profound understanding.
Symbolism is very important when analyzing the conclusion to the play. These factors combined are a very important element of the text. Therefore, it is difficult to accept many feminist arguments without linking them to the other aspects of the play. While feminists often claim that Stanley is utterly dependent upon other people, they do not offer reasons for this. However, it is obvious that Elysian Fields is a society built on desire, and once deprived of this through the intervention of Blanche, Stanley becomes very vulnerable. This is the kind of reasoning not offered by feminists who focus only on condemning the actions of Stanley while failing to consider his viewpoint. Therefore, when it comes to the climax, it is very important to carefully analyze how Stanley is being presented, as this has a dire effect on the plight of his character, both during the rape and the conclusion.

The Deadly Marburg Virus The Marburg virus (MARV (originally known as the Marburg hemorrhagic fever virus)) was first discovered in 1967 during an epidemic in Germany, including the city of Marburg (WHO, 2015). This is a deadly, and severe disease that is in the same viral family as the Ebola virus: the Filoviridae family. The virus may be rare, but it is prone to massive outbreaks in a secreted population causing a staggering high mortality rate.
How the Marburg Virus Affects the Human Body

Many of these strains are closely related to one another. The first recognized cases of MARV was in Germany and Serbia in the year 1967 when an outbreak occurred (Mehedi, 2011). This was nearly a decade before the Ebola virus was found. Even though the origin of the virus was discovered in African in the African fruit bats, the outbreak began in Europe. During the outbreak, it was discovered that the source of exposure was to blood and tissue of African green monkeys that were presumably imported from Uganda (Mehedi, 2011).
One theory presented is that, since primates were infected by the virus in the African landmass, individuals who come in direct contact with the monkeys are more vulnerable to becoming infected due to the close genetic link humans have with primates. Unlike Ebola, there have been only three outbreaks of MARV, and sporadic reports of infection known to date. MARV has the uncertain dissimilarity of being the only human pathogenic hemorrhagic fever to have been imported into western countries. This shows that not only the original MARV epidemic in Europe, but also two recent imported cases in the Netherlands and the United
Coming of Age in The Man Who was Almost a Man by
The Man Who Was Almost a Man
What does it mean for someone to become a man? How does one get the key or password to becoming a man? Some believe that becoming a man is just referring to a coming of age, and it somewhat is, however there is more. In the short story The Man Who Was Almost a Man by Richard white, Dave, the main character is a young boy trying to become a man and is searching for the key. However, there are certain ways to do things in society, and there are ways to not, and both of these ways have their benefits and consequences. In this short story Dave sees the gun as a symbol of manhood, and it will set him free of his childhood.
Throughout the short story the reader can tell that Dave is eager to leave his childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dave still shows thoughts pertaining to the attainable manliness of having a gun by thoughts of shooting at Mr. Hawkins s house. It seems as if Dave s thoughts are blurred and all he sees is the key to becoming a man is having a gun and using it so he is doing this as much as he can along with his crave for power, even though it is just causing others to have even less respect for a reckless irresponsible child with a gun. However, Dave s wishes were still granted when he is forced to start maturing into being a man more rapidly than others and having to take responsibility for his actions. Every choice has its benefits and its consequences, unluckily, with Dave s choices the consequences greatly outweighed the benefits that were being received. Dave had the wrong idea and believed that a gun could symbolize becoming a man whenever all it actually did is rush him into something that he is not ready for, and cause him to do wrong in the eyes of his family and the society. Back to the question, What does it mean for someone to become a man? One could say that Dave eventually learned his lesson by the end of the short story that you cannot push respect upon yourself by others with force. Becoming a man is by definition when a person with the qualities often associated with males such as bravery, spirit, or toughness grows out of their childhood and matures into adulthood. When
Formalism And New Criticism
Formalism is a form of literary criticism that focuses on the formal parts of a literary work. It was started in Russia in the 1910s by two groups led by Roman Jakobson and Viktor Shklovsky. This type typically examines the structure of papers closely and relates them to their meanings. This type of criticism views the work separately from the author and does not account for the author s emotions or beliefs. Formalists also tend to focuses on the defamiliarization aspect of a work and how foreign the language can make everyday occurences feel.New Criticism emerged out of formalism in the 1940s 60s. This school of though typically examines the language used in literary text to uncover deeper meanings. Like formalism, New Criticism ignores the context of the work and solely focuses on its contents. They wanted to make intellectual programs more rigorous by focusing on structure alone.... This form typically focuses on interpreting literary works from a female viewpoint. This often leads to examining the inherently patriarchal nature of society. Feminist criticism also tends to raise awareness to marginalizing aspects of language and gender stereotypes that continue to be perpetuated by society. Another major part of feminist criticism is the frequency with which these critics tnd to note the differences in style between male and female authors. New Historicism was developed once critics realized that the old form of hisorividm no longer satisfied their needs. They believe that history is only one perspective out of many possibility because every work is biased and subjective. Strongly influenced by Michel Foucault, history began to be seen as on of the many ways that the past could be revealed. New Historicism believes that authors cannot escape the culture of the time and, therefore, their works could not be objective. This leads to critics searching for power struggles among the many
The Holocaust-Extermination Camps In The Holocaust
The Holocaust Extermination camps The holocaust was a Genocide in which Adolf Hitler s Nazi Germany and its collaborates killed about six million Jews. First they took them out of their homes and sent them to work camps and then after that to extermination camps. The concentration camps were designed to be a factory of death and no one was supposed to survive. Over all mostly Jews were sent there but politicians were also sent to the camps because they were seen as threats to Germany. The heart of the extermination camps was called Treblinka. By 1939 thousands of Jews were forced to work at the concentration camps and killed. The killed every one teens, children, the elderly anyone who opposed as a threat to the state. An Analysis of the Differences in the Handling of Domestic Violence between the United States and the Republic of Ireland.

CRJ 30: Gender and the Law
Professor Berg
16 December 2015 The issue of domestic violence has become a widely debated topic in modern society. Domestic violence has been a serious situation in the criminal justice system for much of history, however, until approximately the last twenty years, it was largely ignored by society. In the United States, significant political pressure resulting in valuable legislation being passed at a federal and state level has worked to protect victims of domestic violence, and prosecute those who commit such acts. While the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These forms include but are not limited to; verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse , economic abuse, and other forms of abuse. It is difficult to give a definitive definition for domestic violence as it can take on many different forms, however, one proposed definition that many in the field support define ...domestic violence as an unwanted, deliberate and sustained pattern of culturally inappropriate behaviour by people that harms vulnerable others with whom they have a fiduciary relationship and which primarily occurs in their place of residence. (Taylor, Pooley, and Taylor, 2014, p. 11). This is a very broad definition intended to include many possible ways which people can fall victim to domestic violence. The factor that makes domestic violence difficult to enforce is that it occurs in a home environment between individuals involved in a close personal relationship. This makes many people, including victims, feel pressured to keep it a private matter, which can lead to a dangerous situation where the abuse gets worse over time. In the 1990s, the United States passed legislation to help crackdown on the domestic violence epidemic. The legislation instituted many important changes in the way the criminal justice system handles domestic violence. These changes have included everything from mandatory arrest laws for domestic violence offenses, the compilation of extensive report filing systems to track domestic

The issues at hand are economic problems that greatly affect the financials of any country no matter how big, the article speaks mainly about the lack of jobs and how There remain roughly three applicants for every open job. This which can be related to a country having high population. Another is extending the unemployment insurance benefit from 26 weeks to 47 weeks, this also puts high costs on the US at 25Billion$. There is the idea that if the UI benefits are cut there can also be loss of jobs for already employed workers. More to add unemployment itself is a huge problem and also the period that the worker has been unemployed either highly experienced or low experienced can also have its own effects of finding and getting accepted to work again. Launching off with lack of available jobs, the main
Irish Brigade Research Paper
At the start of the Civil War, many Irish immigrants traveled to America to seek a new life or escape their old ones in a poverty stricken Ireland. One of the most well known and fiercest brigades made up of Irish immigrants during the Civil War was the Irish Brigade. Consisting of the 69th, 88th, 63rd New York, 116th Pennsylvania, and 28th Massachusetts Regiments, the brigade was so fierce and strong willed, that they led the charge in many battles, suffering high amounts of casualties in every battle. The Irish Brigade leader, Commander Thomas Francis Meagher, was born in Waterford, Ireland, and was active in the Young Ireland nationalist movement.
