Origins of Marijuana Laws in The United States Essay

A great many of today s citizens erroneously believe that the criminalization of marijuana came into effect as a result of research conducted with due diligence by trained scientists and physicians. The true reasons behind the criminalization of marijuana had little to do with the supposed harmful effects from its use as a recreational drug and much more to do with the financial bottom line of the entrenched industrial complex of this country. The leading advocates of the campaign to ban the use of marijuana were influential businessmen which held huge stakes in paper, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical industries. Their interest in promoting the criminalization of marijuana did not stem from an overwhelming concern for public health, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A short list of the many uses of this versatile plant during this era included paper, canvas, and most notably rope. As technology progressed the uses for the plant expanded as well. In the early twentieth century it was used in the production of the earliest plastics and gasoline. The first Ford Model T s ran on hemp gas and many of the car s parts were made from hemp fibers which had an impact strength ten times stronger than steel according to a Popular Mechanics article in 1941. The US government in 1916 predicted that by the 1940s all paper produced in this country would be made from hemp fiber and in its February 1938 issue touted hemp as the world s first billion dollar crop . From an environmental standpoint besides the important fact hemp grows in a single growing season, while it takes an entire generation to grow trees. It takes far fewer chemicals and thus creates much less pollution to make paper from hemp than from tree pulp. Hemp grows very fast and tall and will choke out all other plants in the area including weeds so the use of herbicides really isn t required. Oil derived from the seeds of the plant can profitably be used in the production of paints and varnishes. The seeds are also quite healthy, containing all eight essential amino acids and are an excellent source of protein.(1) All of these facts though were quite well hidden from the public by the propaganda machine orchestrated by

Evaluate Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) describes the cycle of ongoing development of knowledge, skills and behaviours for an individual in a professional capacity. CPD begins with reflecting on one s current abilities, identifying any areas that need to be enhanced or any skill gaps, and setting development objectives. This is followed by planning which involves evaluating different learning activities to decide the most suitable option, and then the action of undertaking educational activities. Finally an evaluation of whether the learning objectives have been achieved takes place, this may highlight a further development need and continues the CPD cycle. The CPD process involves creating a record of learning accomplishments which shows

Laura s biggest flaw, her slight limp, cause her to shut out the world and become a hermit. Amanda, her mother, pushes her to go to college and find a man whom will take care of her. However, Laura s insecurities kick in and she just about throws up during her first speed test in college, which shows just how serious her situation is. Her personality shines through her glass animals, whom she cares for with great tenderness. Laura has withdrawn from the real world and gone into a make believe world which she creates from her set of glass menagerie. Laura is a very shy, sensitive person who is very fragile. Society in The Glass Menagerie wants her to go to business college, find a gentlemen caller, and not be so fragile. However, she has become so shy and vulnerable that she has forgotten almost completely about the real responsibilities of life. When Laura s high school crush, Jim O Connor, comes to Laura s house for dinner she escapes her make believe world. Laura s make believe world is characterized by I haven t heard any arguments among them! (Williams 122). Laura imagines her glass menagerie to be real which comes to show how... This defect causes her to become distant from the world and become what Tom claims as different. Her limp is not what makes her different but the way she behaves toward her toys and making them real. Laura is a overly sensitive person whose personality shines through her glass collection and the fact that they are her only company. Society in The Glass Menagerie wants Laura to go to school and find a gentleman caller, however the reality is that she will most likely only earn the company of the glass

Differences Between Living At Home And Living Away From Home

Living at Home vs. Living Away from Home Living at home with your family is a privilege nowadays, yet there are people who choose to stay away from home, some willingly and some unwillingly. In addition, those who choose to stay away from home rarely know about the differences in living at home and living away from home. Despite all the differences between living at home and living away from home, there is a similarity between them.

Despite all the differences between living at home and living away from home, the main similarity is the responsibility that an individual performs in both living conditions. A person who lives at home needs to help his parents with daily house chores such as washing the dishes, doing the laundry, cleaning the house and ensuring every item in the house is properly set. Nevertheless, the same house ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Those who live at home are not worried about their food because they eat meals which are usually cooked by their mother. In addition, they do not pay for foods. On the other hand, those who live away from home worries about their foods all the time. Usually, they have to go outside to eat, unless they know how to cook. Moreover, they spend a large amount of money to buy foods and besides they face situations where they might have less money to buy a favorite food. food research?? In addition to freedom and food, the other difference between living at home and living away from home is the emotional problem of a person. Those who live at home with their family may never feel lonely. They can always share their problem with a family member to mutually solve it. Moreover, a person will never miss his as long as they are together. In opposite, those who live away from home will feel lonely and sometimes they might miss their family. In some cases, students have shown signs of depression when they have lived away from their home for approximately over 2

What Is The Colligative Properties Of Salt Dissolved In Water

Colligative properties are those properties of solutions that depend on the number of dissolved particles in solution, but not on the identities of the solutes. For example, the freezing point of salt water is lower than that of pure water, due to the presence of the salt dissolved in the water. To a good approximation, it does not matter whether the salt dissolved in water is sodium chloride or potassium nitrate; if the molar amounts of solute are the same and the number of ions are the same, the freezing points will be the same. For example, AlCl3 and K3PO4 would exhibit essentially the same colligative properties, since each compound dissolves to produce four ions per formula unit. The four commonly studied colligative properties are freezing point depression, boiling point elevation, vapor pressure lowering, and osmotic pressure. Since these properties yield information on the number of solute particles in solution, one can use them to obtain the molecular weight of the solute.

Freezing Point Depression

The presence of a solute lowers the freezing point of a solution relative to that of the pure solvent. For example, pure water freezes at 0°C (32°F); if one dissolves 10 grams (0.35 ounces) of sodium chloride (table salt) in 100 grams (3.53 ounces) of water, the freezing point goes down to 5.9°C (21.4°F). If one uses sucrose (table sugar) instead of sodium chloride, 10 grams (0.35 ounces) in 100 grams (3.53 ounces) of water gives a solution with a freezing point of

The Count Of Monte Cristo Theodore Dumas

The Count of Monte Cristo The Count of Monte Cristo is a classic work of literature written by Alexandre Dumas. It follows Dantés, also known as the Count of Monte Cristo, on his journey to exact revenge on his enemies. Throughout The Count of Monte Cristo, Dumas reveals the search for vengeance will never produce a positive outcome. From the very beginning, Dumas shares his negative views on vengeance when Dantés makes a resolution to exact revenge on the people who wronged him. Dumas first introduces the theme of vengeance when Dantés is in prison with Abbe Faria. Abbe Faria helps Dantés shed light on how he ended up in prison, and in the process makes Dantés less ignorant and more determined to seek revenge on his newly discovered enemies. Dumas illustrates Abbe Faria s regret of having helped Dantés and predicts future adversities because of it:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

For this reason, it is especially important for him to say that he does not like Dantés resolution. Not only does it plant the seed of a negative connotation associated with vengeance and foreshadow the tragedy that is to come, but the reader will undoubtedly believe his exclamation to be true because it is coming from such a wise

1984 Big Brother Essay

In the novel 1984, by George Orwell Big Brother does not appear in the reading but still has a significant presence in the novel. Although Big brother never appears physically in the novel he is considered the ruler of Oceania. All over Oceania you can find propaganda posters with his face on it. The poster says, BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU . Big brothers face is also on coins and telescreens. Even though the ideas and views of Big brother and the party have brainwashed most people except a few like Winston until the end of the novel. With that the party requires citizens to conform to the ideas of Big Brother. The citizens are also required to praise and love Big Brother and if you are caught going against him you will be vaporized. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Big brother propaganda did work for Winston. Instead of having respect for face of Big Brother like other citizens of Oceania do Winston questioned the existence of him. Eventually at the end of the book Winston is tortured into believing that Big Brother is real. Matter of fact he begins love Big Brother. Big brother is also on the face of telescreens at times. Telescreens keep an eye out for people committing crimes and thought crimes. The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it; moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard . In theory Big Brother is in the telescreens listening and watching everything you do. By having telescreens and propaganda in homes and on the street it directly affects the actions of the citizens. Now people are less likely to commit thought crime or rebell because they are always being watched. Throughout most of the book Winston has hated big brother. This quote is an example of his hatred. His eyes re focused on the page. He discovered that while he sat helplessly musing he had also been writing, as though by automatic action. And it was no longer the same cramped, awkward handwriting as before. His pen had slid voluptuously over the smooth paper, printing in large neat capitals DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER DOWN WITH

Joan Of Arc As A Leader Of Women

Leader of Men

The Renaissance Era brought about the desire for expansion, in terms of both territory and ideals. Joan of Arc was a strong woman who stepped up and was able to restore the morale of France during this era, after the French throne was taken over by the English. She dressed as a man and took on roles that were dominantly held by men. Even when she knew she would be punished by death for her behaviors she refused to change her ways. Joan of Arcwas unlike any other women of the time and refused to be oppressed. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in Lorraine to French peasants. As a young girl Joan of Arc was often found doing housework or tending to her father s flock. She was a very kind hearted girl and would often put those in need before herself. Those who knew her described her as a devout Christian. A man once said I have heard it said by Messire Guillaume Front, formerly the parish priest, that Joan was a good Catholic, that he had never met a better and had non better in his parish (Pernoud 18). This faithfulness to the church leads to Joan of Arc announcing her call from God that Charles VII is the rightful heir to the french throne. France was in need of morale boost and Joan of Arc gave them that. France would be under the control of Henry V when Charles VII died, therefore disinheriting Charles VI s son, Charles VII. When Henry V takes over the throne and dies soon after, he leaves a son who is never recognized as King because he was

The Mastery Learning Model Aligns Well With Behavioral...

Model Scenario

The mastery learning model aligns well with the behavioral learning theory. Behaviorism emphasizes students to exhibit their learning through action, which can be objectively observed. In other words, learning is a measurable change. Teachers are to discover the best form of positive rewards or punishing consequences to shape the behavior/action, in order to elicit and increase the desired student response. With the mastery learning model, teachers can do just this. The teacher designs learning experiences in a sequential fashion that manipulate students to produce the desired, observable actions in order to meet the lesson s objective(s).

In this lesson, I have incorporated three specially designed, sequential learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

That is why this strategy is effective and that is how it helps students both learn and master the new knowledge. Regular formative assessments are provided throughout this lesson by systematically monitoring the student progress at all three stations and providing the students prescriptive feedback. Plus, by giving enough time to learn the material, and by providing appropriate learning materials and instruction, all students can learn and master the objectives.

Eight Virtues Of A Samurai

From as early as the 8th century, the samurai lived as the elite warrior class of feudal Japan. The business of the samurai is to reflect on his own station in life, to give loyal service to his master if he has one...to devote himself to duty above all (Soko). They followed a strict code known as Bushidoand it became their way of life. The word Bushido comes from the Japanese roots bushi meaning warrior, and do meaning path or way. It can be directly translated to the way of the warrior. These warriors had to always live by the Eight Virtues of Bushido: Rectitude, Courage, Benevolence, Politeness, Sincerity, Honor, Loyalty, and Self control. A samuraicannot even be considered a samurai without these virtues. Most people may have an idea of what these words mean, but they do not actually understand how to fully express these virtues. Samurai were able to become true embodiments of proper expression. By using different texts like Hojo Shigetoki s A Samurai Instructs His Son, Inazo Nitobe s Bushido, the Soul of Japan, and more, the eight virtues can be broken down into a more understandable level.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rectitude is the power of deciding upon a certain course of conduct in accordance with reason, without wavering, to die when it is right to die, to strike when to strike is right (Nitobe 23). A man who embodied the definition of rectitude would be granted the title of Gishi, a man of rectitude. Gishi was equivalent to someone of high status, so they would be placed in the right positions to best benefit the lord that they serve. Rectitude was an important characteristic for all people during Feudal Japan, not just for the samurai. The only difference was that the samurai had simply acknowledged the importance of such

My Life Reflection Paper

On February 26, 2005 at 7:12 A.M. at Menorah Medical Center, in Overland Park, Kansas I was born. I weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces and I was 20 ½ inches long. The first people who came to see me when I was born was my Grandma and Grandpa Bentley and my uncle Ryan. Also my Grandpa McNeely and Grandma Gigi came to visit me. But everyone that came to visit me said I was really cute! I was baptized on May 22, 2005 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. My godparents are my Aunt Sandra and Uncle Erik. The first word I ever said was eat! When I was 5 months old I would roll around to get where I wanted to go. Then I would army crawl to get around. I took my first steps on February 20, 2006 and I walked to my Grandpa.

Then on February 7, 2006 before I took my first steps we moved to Falls City Nebraska. Falls City was also where I spent my first birthday. I also started walking in Falls City. At the house I lived at I would walk up and down the sidewalk and pick up acorns. The reason my family and I moved back to Falls City is because my parents grew up here. And my grandparents grew up here also. It is really fun seeing where my family grew up!

On February 1, 2007 we moved into the house we currently are living it. So I had my second birthday in the house I live in now. My room was painted like my room in Kansas City and is still that way now. I had this toy kitchen and I would pretend to be cooking something while my mom was cooking. In this house we actually
