Mba Case Study

Case Overview

The Hewlett Packard Managers from each department had a meeting to discuss about whether using a universal power supply for the next generation of network laser printer called Rainbow is beneficial or not. They have the authority to make the decision while strong justification should be provided to defend their proposal.

HP is developing its new generation network printer while it has been struggling from 3 main issues The power specification for the printer is different in North American (110 volt) and European (220 volt). This differences brings a big challenge in HP s market forecasting and the subsequent stockout and transshipment between regrions; HP needs to provide the specifications to its major partner... Consequently, it reduces inventorybuildup issue. Flexible to respond to customer order so that HP can increase service level.

3. How would such costs and benefits be different over the product life cycle?

Over the product life cycle, both cost and benefit are different. At the beginning life cycle (ramp up) of product, the cost of stock out would be high because for every order lost would not only result in lost in revenue but also future revenue. The theory is the customers tend to buy similar product and/or brand to keep consistency. In addition, it takes over four life cycle of product before that customer returns to HP. At the maturity stage, the extra cost, although very small, can be a real disadvantage because during this period, the market becomes very competitive and many players enter the same field causing price to drop. Customers also become more price sensitive. However, the benefit of better forecasting demands significantly helps lower the level of inventory. At the ending life cycle, cost of stockouts is lower than compared to at beginning because there is less fear of losing future sale.

4. Besides deciding on a universal power supply, what other operational improvements can you suggest to HP Boise?

One of the suggestions HP should consider is improving forecasting ability to ensure appropriate demand is met in all sector while optimizing inventory level. In addition, HP

Far Out Sociology

Disco balls, equality, and bell bottoms. The era of the phrase Far Out was the decade where the american personality was very optimistic. Girls can be with girls, boys can kiss boys on screen, and equal opportunity took over the once oppressive and conservative land. The LGBT community made achievements such as getting the first openly gay male elected. Meanwhile Women across the country were gaining the right to vote. Rights were not only being gained for humans but for conserving the environment as well. As a result all new forms of expression that were no longer stigmatized manifested into rising new music. KISS, Cyndi Lauper, and Led Zeppelin were on the rise. In addition to new artists and groups they saw the rise of new genres opening... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 70 s brought a era of new music which internalized the Americans feel of this change, resulting in new genres. This is where the new genre Disco comes in. 70 s Music explains, Our Disco actually started as a form of black commercial pop music, later becoming something that transcended in all races . People felt as though disco was a way to connect all races through music and that is why it evolved. Punk music was then discovered and it was a swift move from Rock and Roll. The History and Evolution of Rock and Roll says The founding fathers of punk were The Ramones who combined anarchism and teenage rage with rock and roll. Other bands such as The Sex Pistols and The Clash helped popularize and redefine punk rock. This powerful and intense new genre of music influenced many bands in the future . An unfamiliar sound deviated from the typical Rock and Roll and it made Punk which the teenage population identified with. Heavy metal was also a uprising in the early 1970 s. Pop and Rock music of the 1970 was quoted saying Like progressive rock, heavy metal was an outgrowth of the psychedelic rock that flourished .This psychedelic hippie sound was brought out of Rock culture and made as a new entity , which then became a big hit. The 70 s was big on change and coming out with multiple new genres and styles of music was one way of the Americans as one to

Insenstivity Of Humanness In The Stranger By Albert Camus

In society, behaving in a way that distances oneself from others is viewed as unacceptable: be it mentally or physically. In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the main character, Meursault, does just that. Throughout the novel, Meursault creates a problem for himself by emphasizing his individual existence rather than acknowledging others. The text suggests that the solution to the presented problem for Meursault is to recognize the subjectivity of others around him: such as his mother and friends. Meursault primarily shows his insensitivity toward others at his mother s funeral. At the funeral, Meursault does not cry or show any signs of mourning the death of his mother. He is very passive, and he even disregards the feelings of others present. The text states, The woman kept on crying. It surprised me, because I didn t know who she was. I wished I didn t have to listen to her anymore (10). This quote demonstrates Meursault s passivity about the feelings of others. He puts off the feelings of the woman due to the fact that he has never seen her and he wants her to essentially shut up. This insensitivity towards others and his own mother s death is eventually used against him when he is being tried for murder. The fact that Meursault did not cry during the funeral and that he admittedly smoked in front of his mother s casket while keeping vigil leads the prosecutor to question Meursault s place in society. As Meursault sits in the courtroom, in his mind he

Optimism In Romeo And Juliet

Being optimistic is being hopeful and having a positive attitude about the future. One can be optimistic in any situations with any emotions, it depends on the view and personality of the person in mind. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, two individuals from different worlds find a way to come together even in the face of their families altercations to find true love. The play, Romeo and Juliet, expresses a rather optimistic view of life. In the play, the two lovers try to keep their lives positive despite what is going on in their personal lives. Juliet is in disbelief when she learns that her love Romeo is a montague and she is not allowed with him. While at the feast in the Capulet house, Juliet talks to the nurse after meeting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Nurse acts like a messenger for Juliet and is out of breath from having to walk through Verona. After receiving good news from Romeo the Nurse heads back to the Capulet home and says to Juliet, I am aweary. Give me leave awhile. Fie, how my bones ache! What a jaunt have I! (2.5.25). This represents that the Nurse has become tired and needs to relax after Juliet s requests for her to speak with Romeo. Though the nurse feels weak and needs some time to settle down a bit but instead she explains all of what happened to Juliet. This is an example of staying calm and happy when you are stressed or down. Romeo s new love interest brings a sense of distress to the Friar. As Romeo tells Friar Lawrence he is in love with the forbidden the Friar says, But come, young waverer, come, go with me, In one respect I ll thy assistant be, For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households rancor to pure love (2.3.85). The Friar is aware of the feud between the families, but instead of becoming worried about this situation the Friar although feeling stressed agrees to marry the two. The Friar has hope that the marriage could reunite the Capulet and Montague. He always keeps his hope throughout the play. The Friar acts as a friend to Juliet when Romeo was exiled. When Friar Lawrence hears the news that Romeo has been exiled he comes up with a plan for Juliet and says, Hold. Get you gone. Be strong and prosperous In this resolve (4.1.126). The Friars only son like figure has been sent away indefinitely and still instead of being full of anger he simply helps Juliet without a thought of his own feelings. Friar Lawrence sees only the good in every situation and figures out way to make it better, like giving Juliet the potion in hopes of bringing Romeo back so they can run away. Through all of the stress the Friar and the

The Political Cartoon Privacy Wars

The Political Cartoon titled Privacy Wars, deals with Bill C 51 and its impact on Canadian individuals rights and freedoms; all of which ties into Chapter Three and The Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Within the political cartoon, Stephen Harper the former prime minister of Canada is portrayed as Darth Vader, who is seen holding a paper labelled Bill C 51. In a text bubble beside him are the written words, trust me. The cartoonist mainly emphasizes the Bill C 51 labelled paper and the title PrivacyWars, by using bold fonts and centring the lettering. The reason for this is because of how much the Bill contradicted individuals privacy rights. Not only did it infringe Canadian s privacy, but it also violated virtually every Charter Right and Freedom.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Descriptive Essay On Sign Language

My friend, Kacey, eagerly waved her scrunched up her hand and said, This is the letter, A in sign language! I tilted my head slightly in peculiarity and asked Kacey, What s the letter B in sign language? She didn t know. As soon as I arrived home from school, I sat down in front of my computer and googled, sign language alphabet. I closely examined the picture charts online of the hand symbols for each letter. Each hand symbol was different from the other and some hand symbols looked like the actual letter of the alphabet.

I studiously searched websites that taught sign language and discovered a whole realm of vocabulary sign language words. My spare moments were spent glaring at my computer screen and repeating hand motions from videos and pictures of a man or a woman doing the motions of the word. Every moment when I learned a new symbol in sign language, the uniqueness of being able to spell with my hand awakened a sense of learning.

Then, I lifted my hand and learned to spell the letter, A in sign language which eventually became the letter B. I slowly moved each finger corresponding to the picture, but as soon as I finished learning a new letter, I would immediately forget it. I would go back to the letter that I forgot and reteach it to myself. Some finger movements of the letters were difficult to motion, the repetition of memorizing the new letters became redundant.

Many times, I questioned myself why I continued to learn the language, but that didn t stop me. As I was learning, I always thought sign language was plainly spoken through the hands. Until I stumbled upon a website that explained how important facial expressions are when you use sign language. So, on top of trying to retain all the vocabulary and letters in sign language, I picked up on how to perform in front of my mirror while making my exaggerated facial expressions when using sign language. I practiced scrunching my brows when I asked a question in sign language and continuously used my facial muscles when expressing any phrase I did with my hands.

My practice and usage for the language grew, but my motivation to continue tapered off.

I had never encountered anyone that was deaf or hearing impaired that

What s Eating Gilbert Grape

What s Eating Gilbert Grape is a 1993 American drama film written by Peter Hedges and directed by Lasse Hallstrom. The film s main characters are Johnny Depp as Gilbert Grape and Leonardo DiCaprio as Arnie Grape. The film depicts the burden of family caretaking and the affect it has on a family both mentally, physically, and financially. Gilbert is the primary caregiver for his mentally and developmentally disabled seventeen year old brother Arnie (who has the mental capacity of a young child), his morbidly obese mother Bonnie, known as Mama, and his two sisters Amy and Ellen. Amy, the oldest daughter, shares most of the household chores with Gilbert and helps with Arnie s care. She plays the mother figure role for Arnie even though Arnie s mother is alive. Ellen, the youngest daughter, is very negative in her feelings toward her family. She doesn t help much with the family because she is busy being a teenage girl. The movie takes place in the fictional small Midwestern town of Endora, Iowa. Gilbert says in the film s opening voiceover, Describing Endora is like dancing to no music...nothing much happens here, and never will, In one of the scenes, we understand that the father could not handle the pressures of life so he committed suicide 15 years earlier by hanging himself in the basement. Gilbert is concerned about the condition of the farmhouse so he calls his friend Tucker so they can check the stability of the floor by going into the basement. They bring in some

Factors Causing Gender Inequity

The gender gap has been a concern for decades, it used to be that females lagged behind males when it came to academic achievement. Females now outperform males academically and are more likely to obtain college degrees and enroll in graduate school despite the gender inequalities that remain in American society. The underachievement of females has diminished if not vanished due to the focus of the United States for the past 30 years to close the genderachievement gap. Yet, the concern in the most recent years has been both the lower performance of girls in mathematics and science and now males underperformance in most academic areas (Del Rio Strasser, 2012). Why is it that despite that females and males attend the same educational environment, males are having a hard time keeping up and females continue to be less likely to take advanced math or science classes or enroll in science and math related careers?

There are several factors that cause gender inequity and have caused the gender achievement gap to grow. Factors such as society, culture, and students beliefs and attitudes about learning. As members of a society we value certain rules, customs, and values and we learn to follow our society s rules, customs and values. This is called socialization and part of this socialization includes gender roles. As a society we have learned that males and females have different roles and we expect them to act differently depending on their gender. Children learn at a

Critical Infrastructure And Key Resources (CIKR)

Critical Infrastructure and Key Resources, better known as CIKR, is an umbrella term. It refers to the assets of the United States essential to the nation s security, public health and safety, economic vitality, and way of life. There are sixteen sectors that break down CIKR, chemical, communication, commercial facilities, dams, critical manufacturing, defense industrial base, emergency services, energy, financial, food and agriculture, government, health and public health, information technology, nuclear reactors materials and waste, transportation, and finally water and wastewater system. In the Food and Agriculture sector there is a CARVER and Shock vulnerability assessment tool. This is target critical when there are new threat agents introduced into locations that would have a significant health or economic impact. The C in CARVER is intended to address the critical criteria runs on a ten point scale starting with one to two equating to a no loss of life or less than $100 million dollars, and nine to ten equaling loss of over 10,000 lives or the loss of $100 billion. The A is for accessibility to address when the attacker can reach the target to conduct attack and egress for the target. R is recuperability which is used to measure the time to recover productivity ranging from one month through more than one year. Vulnerability is the measure of the ease in which the threat agents can be introduced in quantities significant to achieve the purpose once the target is reached. Effect is the percentage of productivity damaged by an attack at a single facility inversely related to the number of facilities that produce to product. Recognizability is the degree the target can be identified by an attacker without confusion with other targets or components. The Shock tool is broken in to a combined measure of health, psychological, and collateral national economic impact. It is also run on a ten point scale beginning with no historical, symbolic, or religious importance to

J. M. Turner Slave Ship Analysis

J.M.W. Turner, Slave Ship, 1840

Initial reaction to the work

I chose the painting Slave Ship initially because it reminded me of paintings my grandmother had in her home when I was growing up. I was also drawn to the chaos it displayed, which I felt is very significant of my life most days. Being a single mother of two boys, working as a registered nurse in the critical care unit and now going back to school to get my bachelor s degree, I often feel that I am on a sinking ship in a storm.

Historical content

William Turner painted the Slave Ship in 1783, The paintingwas based on a poem and a true story about a slave ship caught in a typhoon, in 1781. The slave ship s captain had thrown overboard all the sick and dying slaves so that he could collect insurance money available only for slaves lost at sea. (www.mfa.org)

The Evil, Manipulative Character of Cassius in Julius...

William Shakespeare the writer of Julius Caesar decided how Cassius would be portrayed in his play. In the play, Cassius has an evil, manipulative personality; he can be your friend one minute then Cassius can be your worst enemy. Although Cassius was not popular with the people of Rome, he became the ringleader of the conspirators.

Cassius displays the personality of a shrewd opportunist, who doesn t believe in the rule of one person. He believes there should be an elected set of officials; to decide on the laws for Rome. He resides as a very close friend to Julius Caesar, before he became the Roman king. Cassius played a large role in the assassination of Julius Caesar (I.ii.90 115). When Julius Caesar became godlike to the roman people, Cassius had much dislike toward Julius. He thought that Julius appeared too incompetent and weak to the point of embarrassment, and wanted him removed from the throne. In the play, Cassius manipulates Brutus into thinking that Caesar has become too powerful and that he needed to be killed. He also uses flattery to sway Brutus into becoming part of his plan (I.ii.48 51). Cassius tricked Brutus into finally believing the Roman people wanted Caesar dead by forging letters from the people that do convey these thoughts (I.iii.142 148). He also made Brutus feel like it was his civic duty to the Roman people. Cassius seems like just a very evil or cruel man, he committed suicide once he thought that his best friend Brutus was killed in the

Health Behavior Change Plan Essay

Behavior Change Plan Regina Martin This is a health behavioral change plan where I will prioritize the Seven Dimensions of Wellness as they rank in my current life and includes a rationale and details on why each category fell in particular spot when I rate it. The first dimension of health on my list is physical but it has an emotional component. I rated this on the top of my list because I have gained 26 pounds in about 3 years and 6 8 pounds have been in the past 6 months. I bought new jeans before Christmas and they no longer fit me. To give context to how I arrived here I had lost lots of weigh a few years ago but my brother died who is only 9 months older than me and more people followed along with other severe stressors. I researched this issue for an addictions project last semester and I ve come to understand that food can actually activate our dopamine receptors. Furthermore, people often have emotional triggers for overeating. I think as a future health educator it s really important to understand that distinction and be aware of the emotional causes for overeating and binge eating disorder. I rated emotional as number two on my list because it is emotions that are driving my overeating. It s possible it should be number one considering since it s the underlying cause the physical behavior I want to change. I am aware that it s mostly anxiety that is making me overeat or aggravation by family. I ll have work on find ways to deal with these stressors. I recently changed my study area due to lighting and other comfort issues. The biggest plus to where I was studying it that was quiet and private. What the change of area made me notice is that most of the time, when I start to have an uncomfortable emotion I literally whip open the refrigerator which is about four feet away from where I am studying. Previously I had to walk up steps to get to the kitchen which
