Assignment #1 Daniel Case INTRODUCTION Abalone populations are an economic and recreational resource that is threatened by a variety of factors, which include pollution, disease, loss of habitat, predation, commercial harvesting, sport fishing, and illegal harvesting. As a result of the aforementioned factors, abalone populations have declined considerably, pushing some abalone species to the verge of extinction. To help curb over harvesting and better protect abalone populations, it is important for biologists to efficiently and quickly determine the age composition of a regional abalone population. The purpose of this report is to examine the data from an observational study of abalone in Tanzania. The intent of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assuming the abalone data from which this sample was drawn were randomly selected, we can be 95% confident that the true value of the population proportion is within the below confidence internals (Table 2.1). The data variable, volume, is a product of multiplying abalone length, diameter, and height. Similarly, the data variable, density, is a product of dividing abalone weight (i.e. the variable whole ) by volume. The three likely independent data variables to predict abalone age are volume, density, and weight. As such, these three variables were examined in further detail. Charts 2.1 2.3 show each variable s histogram and

The island country of Trinidad and Tobago became an independent country in 1962, and became a republic country in 1976. The country is comprised of two main islands, Trinidad being the larger of the two and Tobago being the smaller. The majority race is East Indian and African, with English as its dominating language as well as it is their national language. This small country houses a population of over 1,370,000 people, with their growth rate being in the negative numbers at 3.2. The people of Trinidad and Tobagofollow numerous religions such as Hinduism and Muslim, but the main one the natives follow are either Protestantism or Roman Catholicism. The natives are under a Parliamentary Democracy type government system meaning that their leader will become Prime Minister or Chancellor. The average age is 35.5 years with a life expectancy of 73 years. The male to female age ratio is fairly similar with the males age at 35 years and the female at 36 years. The birthrate outweighs the death rate with the birthrate being 13.1/1000 and the death rate being 8.7/1000. One of Trinidad and Tobago s main and largest cities is their capital Port of Spain. While Trinidad and Tobago are known for one of the biggest celebrations in the world, Carnival, issues such as high unemployment and high crime rates remain in the forefront for this country (worldtravelguide.net). In addition to these common issues, employment for some citizens is hard. The crime is big in more of the poverty
Central Delaware Riverfront District is a place with rich history. This article is mainly about comparing the master plans of this area issued in the late 20th Century and 2011.
As part of the background, I d like to mention that the development of Central Riverfront District could be traced back to 1967. The Philadelphia City Planning Commission made a plan to build the I 95 Express Highway in that year. It was a postwar interstate highway happening with the automobile growth, serving the purpose of development out. But it also isolated the riverfront (which was mainly the industrial area at that time) with the center city, putting the future development of the waterfront district into a negative position.
In the late 20th Century about 1980, there was a master plan for Central Delaware Riverfront issued by Philadelphia City Planning Commission. It stated consideration for the whole planning from the aspects of transportation, land use, development phasing, recreation open space and so on, by previously studying the existing condition and analyzing development potential of the site. The background of the plan was that Philadelphia entered the post industrial era because of industry decline. Some of the piers were no longer in use and many factories were moved to other places. The riverfront district needed to be redeveloped.
After 30 years, the Planning Commission approved another master plan for Central

Darkness at Noon, written by British novelist Arthur Koestler in 1940, is a criticism of Stalinism and the methods used by the Communist Party in the USSR. The novel was set in 1938 during the Stalinist Great Purge and Moscow show trials. Even though the story depicts actual occurrences, it does not specifically name either Russia or the USSR, but the characters do have Russian names while other generic terms are used to depict individuals and associations. For instance, the Soviet government is alluded to as the Party and Nazi Germany is alluded to as the Dictatorship. Joseph Stalin, a terrorizing dictator, is represented by Number One. The novel is a strong and moving picture of a Communist revolutionary caught up in the terror... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important in the understanding of anti vivisection morality and grammatical fiction to also understand the Russia in which Rubashov was living. In the 1930s, Russia was a communist country following principles based on the ideas of Karl Marx. Marx believed that at some point in time, all societies end up being communist which can only be accomplished through revolution. In the early 1900s, Russian was governed by the Bolshevik party led by Vladimir Lenon. Stalin came into power after Lenin died and shortly thereafter, he began executing all those who he believed posed some kind of threat to his power. In Darkness at Noon, this is exactly what happened to the protagonist, Nicolas Rubashov. He was an elite in the Party and was there as Number One rose to power and later became a victim during the Moscow purges. The power that Number One, in reality Stalin, wielded, had been seen before and since his time in leaders such as Cuba s Castro and North Korea s Kim II Sung. Both followed similar paths to Stalin in eliminating all opposition and threats to their power. Number One, like Stalin, got rid of anyone who could possibly threaten him and take over. With that thought in mind, we are back to looking at how Arthur Koestler portrayed the character of Rubashov as a vehicle to illustrate the struggle between the ideas of the party and of the individual. The conspicuous disagreement of the Communist Party is the contention between
Sophocles, a tragedy play writer from Ancient Greece incorporates suspense, drama, inexplicable and constant situations in the play to illustrate an appalling form of the era. Most of his work is a reflection of a society and major events happening at the time. Excessive power in the government causes discord in citizen because people are afraid of retaliations from the government. The play Antigone is part of The OedipusCycle by Sophocles. The Theban Plays are about the king and queen of Thebes and their family. The last sequel Antigone is about the daughter of Oedipus, who was the son of King Lalos and Queen Jocasta of Thebes. The last play picks up when Antigone, one of Oedipus daughter returns to Thebes with her sister Ismene. In their return, they found out that their brothers, Eteocles and Polynices killed each other in a battle for the throne of Thebes. Creon who was Queen Jocasta s brother inherited the throne and became the new king of Thebes. Creon was married to Eurydice and had two sons Megarus and Haimon. Haimon was engaged to be married to Antigone. One of the new rules as a king, he banned the burial of Polynices, who he thought was a traitor. Antigone with her moral and values disobeyed the law and gets caught burred the body. Furthermore Creon sends her to prison because she was rebelling against his new set of rules. After Antigone was incarcerated, she hung herself with the wedding gown she was wearing. When her fiancé finds out that his father send her
There are plenty of seemingly trivial issues in South Western School District originating from the various departments and clashing opinions. Lately however, the school board has been trying to find a sense of identity for the school and maintain what they call a Tradition of Excellence. The main problem is trying to find different ways to bring South Western up to date with the rest of the educational world. In an effort to rise to the level of other schools, the board has been applying the Common Core pedagogical shifts throughout the district. This was the first proposal for a solution to fix the schools educational relevance. The idea of pedagogical shifts is to promote self learning and self sufficiency, which means that our high school... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many classes now use online resources such as Schoology and Google Classroom, and other classes have been able to use programs specifically designed for that subject. This is a valid proposal, however, the switch for some classes has meant that everything has become online based. This could be a negative aspect in the sense that student interaction will decrease and the attitude of the school is open to change negatively or positively. However, this allows students to further their experience with computers and make it easier for them to adapt to technological advances that they will experience for the rest of their life. Another proposal for the development of the school is for teachers to switch to project based learning, in which students may opt out of testing and instead complete an equally challenging project that would better showcase their abilities. This is also a good idea in theory, but with the amount of standardized tests required by the state, it is difficult for students to perform well on them without prior experience of
Nonverbal communication is a key element in everyday conversation. Features such as hand gestures, facial expression, tone of voice and even degree of eye contact influence how other s interpret the words we speak. A statement spoken takes on a whole new meaning with a particular look or tone attached to it. Nonverbal communicationis something everyone expresses even if their intentions are not to communicate at all. Lack of communication, is still a form of communication! When people hear the term nonverbal communication, they automatically think of gestures or body language; things that people do intentionally to communicate without actually speaking words. While this is partially true to the definition, it is only half of the meaning. There are many forms of unintentional nonverbal communication. Some examples of these unintentional behaviors includes, stammering, sweating, blushing, and even frowning. Though frowning seems like something that would be done only intentionally, it is frequently a natural reaction. Blushing however, is a behavior that can t be done on purpose. It is a reaction to embarrassment, anger, romantic stimulation, or anxiety and will communicate the emotion associated with it to the person or persons surrounding you without you actually speaking a word.
We use nonverbal communication to present who we are. Every behavior one has communicates a feeling or attitude. This can get tricky though. When you are too aware of how you are expressing your
Nicole: That municipalities, mayors, and council members have the tools that they need to manage their constituents. So when I think about being the Mayor here in Manitou Springs and as unique as we feel we are, for example last night we discussed sexually oriented businesses and we are the only municipality in El Paso Countywith recreational marijuana, you know a variety of things that we have catered to our own municipality, I would love to be able to turn around on those steps and say that I have helped to create well rounded and broad policy for municipalities and local government at the smaller level to do exactly what they need for their specific unique community.
Dustin: So empowering local government?
Nicole: Yes.
Dustin: That s awesome.
Nicole: And you know yeah I mean really, and I m just going to talk to sort of randomly right now. When I think about empowering local governments and I think about this current mayoral campaign and I think about some of the council members I have on my board and someone like Pete Lee who have their own agenda, not that not necessarily self serving, although it may be, they re not coming from a place of thinking that it s self serving, but they just have a tunnel vision for specific agenda, I don t have that. I don t necessarily want to unless it s essential for my job. For example, as I run for mayor again, the items that I m talking about trying to address for the next two years have come up over the past two years as we ve gone
When I first arrived at Little Monsters Little Angels, I immediately noticed how different it was from the McCarthy Center. It was one large open room, yet divided for toddlers and preschoolers by walkways and cubbies. It s clear the McCarthy Center is one of the best in the valley so comparing it to others is a bit challenging because the McCarthy Center is so spot on. Although Little Monsters Little Angels lacked in a few areas where the McCarthy Center didn t, there is still a great preschool for children to attend.
There were some things in the classroom that both places had either more or less of. The classrooms at Little Monsters Little Angels had a few more tables than the dragonfly room at the McCarthy Center and the McCarthy Center had places for high and low mobility both indoors and outdoors. At the McCarthy Center, for one room there was one large bathroom and at Little Monsters Little Angels, there were two rooms with two smaller bathrooms for each. Also at Little Monsters Little Angels, they didn t have as many adults as the other center did. There were two adults with thirteen children, so they weren t as prepared for the children as the McCarthy Center was. The outdoor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A social dramatic zone was not outdoors. Feeney, Moravcik, Nolte (2013) say, Playis richer when there are playhouses, dress up clothes and props, and loose parts like hollow boxes, sheets, small tires, planks and other movable pieces that children can arrange (p.271). None of these items were encouraged outside, yet there were some items relating to social dramatic zones inside like the show and tell area. Also inside, there was a television which should be removed because it was in a room for all ages to be in and it is better to not have one at all since there were already two computers for the children to access on their own. The McCarthy center had social dramatic zones outside and had no televisions in the
