Sasa Dance Essay

If I had to study, learn and preform one style of dance, I would choose Salsa dancing. I find this style interesting because it looks very fun to watch while it makes me want to start dancing even without knowing any salsa moves. Hearing the bongos pounding with the maracas sending shockwaves through a person s body is a sight to behold upon the dancing world. Being inexperienced is not an issue at all because you re not judged by doing it incorrectly, but judged upon your enthusiasm to the best performance given. There are many characteristics of salsa but here are a few of them. It is a partner dance where the man leads and the woman follows. The music has 4 beats per measure but the dancers only take steps on 3 of the beats pausing for one

Selflessness And Selflessness In The Movie The Impossible

In the movie, The Impossible, Lucas Bennett shows selflessness and bravery as he does everything to keep his mother, Maria, alive. While Lucas and Maria walk through the debris they hear a child crying. Maria insists on helping anyone they can so she urges Lucas to help the child. Lucas reflects that he is brave and selfless as he rescues the helpless child. He put his life in danger to find a complete stranger. Lucas then faces another challenge as he pushes his motherup into the tree, before pulling himself up. He puts his life in danger in order to insure his mother s safety. Another example of Lucas s strong personalities is shown when Lucas makes it his priority to reunite families in the hospital. Despite knowing the chances of reuniting a family, in such a large hospital, were slim, he showed selflessness by trying anyway and putting other s needs in front of his own. This displayed his selfless and brave qualities.

The film is based off of a tsunami that occurred in Thailand on the 26th of December. The Bennett family ,of five, went to Thailand for a vacation, but were welcomed with an unexpected event that changed their lives in an instant. A tsunami occurs at Khao Lak as the family is swimming in the hotel pool. Each member is swept away in different directions. It shows the family trying to survive and find each other. Maria and Lucas were separated from Henry (father), Thomas and Simon. Maria is severely injured and Lucas is desperately trying to get help.

Faulty Car Batteries

Faulty car batteries can lead to false starts, or contribute to other electrical problems in your vehicle. Modern cars featuring electrically governed power steering systems can also be affected, making proper battery maintenance even more crucial. Problems starting your car, or seemingly unrelated problems with power steering can, therefore, be indicative of a battery which is not functioning optimally: but you will be glad to learn that this can be easily remedied with some simple, at home maintenance, saving costly garage trips and services. You will need: A voltmeter A socket wrench Degreaser Safety goggles De ionised water 6 amp battery charger Maintaining your battery Step 1: First remove your battery from its housing in the engine bay. Begin by removing the earth lead connected to your battery, before touching anything... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Step 2: Next, degrease the battery and check the voltage across the terminals with your voltmeter. The reading on your meter should be approximately 12 volts. Lower readings are a telltale sign of poor maintenance but not to worry that s what this guide is for! Having cleaned the battery casing, remove the cap on the top of the battery to expose the six chambers within. Standard battery caps are simply pried off, and then pressed back on to secure. Wearing goggles here is advisable to protect against acid being flicked into your eyes. Remember: safety first! Step 3: Each of the newly exposed chambers contains one battery cell, filled with a solution of sulphuric acid which evaporates over time. Top up this solution with the de ionised water, covering the lead plates visible within the cells. Leave the covering cap off the battery and connect your 6 amp charger, leaving the battery to charge for several hours. Replace the cap, test again with the voltmeter, and a more healthy reading is your

Reflection On High Stakes Testing

2 Reflection: High Stakes Testing

1)Share your experiences with the administration of high stakes testing of your students, students in a classroom you observed, or your own children. What is the attitude of the students? Do you think this or other situational factors could have influenced scores? What was the role of teachers or administrators in these factors?

Every fall and spring of the year, our school has all students participate in NWEA Maps testing. These tests are used to create our school wide goal, and for many of us, or individual goals for the year. Math and English are the two areas of focus, to see where we stand in regards to the grade level norms that each school is supposed to perform at. In the past, our school as a whole has scored significantly below the norm. My second year, we had a 4+ point deficit, and expected growth is limited to 1.3 a year on average. Thus, there is a huge emphasis on improving our scores each year. We have about a week and a half that we spend on testing, and each subject goes on a different day. Throughout the course of the week our students will go with each of their teachers and take test for a different subject each and every day. Studetns who don t finish in the allotted time for class, either go back with the teacher, or are asked to finish their testing during a study hall, or during another class period. When the testing begins, we all assume our students have taken it in previous grades and there is not

Psychopath Dennis Rader Case Study

Psychopath Dennis Rader, alias the BTK Killer, killed a total of 10 people, including 2 children, over a fifteen year period ranging from 1974 to 1991. Rader was apprehended and arrested in 2005 because of newer forensic technology available to analyze DNA and computer forensics. Ultimately, it was Rader s own daughter who turned police informant, and give them a DNA sample from her cheek saliva (Hansen, 2006). Young Ortmeier (2011) describe how DNA Identification Act of 1994 led to the development of CODIS, which been used for varied reasons such as identifying violent offenders, victims and unidentified remains. Despite Rader s cleverness and precautions, he carelessly left behind trace biological evidence from underneath his fingernails that was lifted forensically from a letter BTK sent to the... Rader wrongfully thought the floppy disk was actually not traceable, not appreciating the computer forensics of residual data about file author and date fields on the supposedly wiped floppy disk. In addition to the unwiped metadata, some deleted data was still accessible because it filled the slack on the drive, and slack is sometimes not deleted until it is ultimately overwritten with fresh data, leaving behind an incriminating trail of data that revealed his name and workplace. Ever since I was little, I was raised to overcome simple cold without taking any medicine. The only medicine that was provided to me was orange juice. It seemed very peculiar then. My parents would tell me, Let your body do its own job. After many years of studying biology, anatomy, and toxicology, I am continually fascinated by what our bodies are capable of. I realized our bodies are stronger and smarter than we know; this has led me to apply for osteopathic medical education. The University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) has maintained very strong, specific aims throughout many years. KYCOM emphasizes producing physicians who are committed to serve rural areas where there is a shortage of medical support,

My First Heartbreak Essay

My First Heartbreak

Everything was spinning around and around me, as I stood in front of the mirror watching the cold, stale tears full of regret and sadness drip downing onto the stiff new sweatshirt I got earlier that day. I could hear the words floating from the phone into my ear but it sounded as if it was a million miles away and I was underwater. I could hear Mom try to calm my nerves and try to wipe my tears from six hundred miles away but it was all for nothing. I could smell the saltiness of the tears and feel the sliminess of the snot that was a stream from my nose. I wiped away the stinging tears, filled with a new sense of rage. They are in there talking about me. Thinking I m the crazy one. She was the one who constantly belittled me and ditched me. I thought to myself as I paced around the room with hot, angry tears. I was angry and I couldn t express my emotions like I was used to so I had to get rid of the emotions through flushing them out with tears. Just don t think about it. I need you to stay calm and think rationally. You are better than this. Do I need to drive the 10 hours to come and get you? Because I will and it won t bother me at all. Mom s almost soothing voice came through the phone in a clearer manner. I glared out the window for a long time before answering. No. We are coming home tomorrow. It would be a waste of time. I just want to switch rooms and avoid for the rest of this trip. I can t be near her. Go take the phone to

Racism In Ralph Ellison s King Of The Bingo Game

The movement for African American civil rights was beginning to surface in the 1940 s. Ralph Ellison writes about the moral, political, and psychological struggles of being black and living in America during the 1930 s. In the short story King of the Bingo Game , the author examines the vulnerable and hopeless experience of an unnamed protagonist who is poor with no hopes for the future, a representation of any black man in the 1940s. This story is about a black man from the South who goes to the North to participate in a bingo game. Without a birth certificate, he is not eligible to obtain a job and nor can he afford a doctor to treat his ill wife. Using a historical and political lens, Ralph Ellison exposes the evils of racism and explores... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Race is highlighted as playing a significant role in the power held by the white people and denied to blacks. Whites are valued over blacks. Race determines one s fate. Throughout the story, the protagonist dreams of winning a thirty six dollar bingo game in order to save his sick wife. However, the story illustrates that because of the power and social dominance of the whites, there is no way that the protagonist can escape the hopeless situation he is in. A similar standpoint was stated by Anne Marie Hacht. The black protagonist of Ellison s story dreams of finding success, even if it only means winning a thirty six dollar bingo jackpot. Yet his ambition is largely a dream that he has little hope of realizing (Hacht 2). We get the first glimpse of the hopelessness he feels when he is watching the movie and says, But they had it all fixed. Everything was fixed (Ellison 252). This realization reflects his feelings of not being able to succeed in a society controlled by whites. This feeling of powerlessness is manifested in a dream that he has in which he is running from a train down south, and just when he thinks he could escape it, people look down on him following him right down the middle of the street, and all the white people laughing as he ran screaming (Ellison 252). This reflects the desperation that black people feel. Despite the protagonist s insistence that anybody can win , he cannot because he is constantly under the heat and glare of the white light from the projector. This institutionalization of racism is evident in the way other people respond to the protagonist. A critic that shares this same belief is Troy A. Urquhart, who claims that Ellison s King of the Bingo Game is about a pattern of naming that reinforces the hierarchy which values whiteness over blackness and suggests that the

Compare and Contrast Essay In the Heat of the Night ; Movie or Book? By Johanna In The Heat of the Night is a gripping murder mystery story that incorporates a major issue of the time it was written at; racism. The original novel (published in 1965), written by John Ball, is a story of Virgil Tibbs, a Negro homicide investigator. The death of orchestra conductor Enrico Mantoli and a series of other events lead up to him in charge of a murder investigation in Wells, Carolina. This is much to the dismay of Bill Gillespie, the extremely prejudice police chief. The movie version (released in 1967), also features Mr. Tibbs as the leader of a murder investigation. However, the setting is Sparta, Mississippi, and the victim is Philip... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, the movie somewhat exaggerated on Mr. Endicott as being a bad guy . From being somewhat a pest, however definitely not on anyone s bad books , too being a plantation owner who sends a group of thugs to beat up Virgil is just ludicrous. It seems he is used as an excuse to bring out another foe, another bit of action to make the movie more exciting. The subtle mystery of not knowing who is bad or good in the novel is a lot more satisfying, perhaps even more once you find out who the real murderer was. The movie, at a full running time of 109 minutes, has quite an exciting plot, with slow parts and exciting action parts. It incorporates many essential things to the original story of In the Heat of the Night , (such as the association with Delores Purdy) however it differs quite a bit as well. As mentioned above, the setting is in Sparta, Mississippi, where Philip Colbert, planning to build a factory in this town, is murdered. This change of plot on its own removes something that could be considered essential to the plot; romance. The budding relationship between Duena, Enrico Mantoli s daughter (who doesn t show up what so ever, seeing as Enrico Mantoli was not the victim) and Officer Sam Wood adds a bit of spice that is lacking in the movie. On the topic of Sam Wood, his character being a relatively minor one sets a rather different way of looking at his character. In the book, the reader gets a closer glimpse on

The Accounting Standards Board ( Iasb ) And The...

Since 2007, both the Financial Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) have been collaborating on a unified project pertaining to the creation of a new accounting standard for insurance contracts. Currently, no international accounting standard exists under the International Financial Reporting Standards(IFRS), as they tend to follow the guidance of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). However, the standards proposed by both boards differ slightly. In June 2013, the FASB issued an Exposure Draft, Proposed Accounting Standards Update: Insurance Contracts (Topic 834) that strayed slightly from the IASB s Exposure Draft Insurance Contracts also issued in June 2013. Initially, the FASB introduced a model with a scope including not only insurance entities but also noninsurance entities that issued insurance contracts. Nevertheless, the FASB s goals in the alternation of insurance accounting have diverged further from its initial convergence efforts with the IASB after the FASB voted in a board meeting on February 19, 2014, to narrow the focus of the insurance contracts project to pertaining solely to insurance entities, which is the same scope as current U.S. GAAP.

The FASB was pressured by insurance entities, professional accounting organizations, and other financial statement users to reduce the scope of its exposure draft on insurance accounting or to specify which entities would fall under the control of the

The Relationship Between Media And Bias

Bryson Cook Professor Daniel Baracskay American Government 1101 9 September 2016 The Relationship Between Bias and the Media Since its inception, the media has been fiercely castigated for the substantial amount of bias it allegedly encompasses. Popular television media outlets such as CNN or Fox News have been accused of containing said bias by both sides of the political spectrum, and the introduction of news websites and programs on the internet have unlocked a door filled with criticism about the political stances that every single article contains. What indications are there that affirms these accusations of impartial information being conveyed to the public? How does one determine what type of bias each news network displays? The purpose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In their report, Fox News asks If the 2016 presidential election were held today, how would you vote if the candidates were: Democrat Hillary Clinton, Republican Donald Trump, (Other), (Wouldn t vote), or (Don t know)? (Fox News Poll, 2016). 44% of the survey s participants answered they would vote for Hillary Clinton while 38% answered they would vote for Donald Trump, but the actual survey is not where the bias lies. Shortly after the survey concluded and the results were in, Fox News started covering what the survey revealed and the headline showed FOX POLL: TRUMP LEADS WITH INDEPENDENTS (Stevens, 2016). Fox News had displayed the wrong results from the poll with no substantial reasoning supporting it. Many critics that have examined this event conclude that Fox News was perhaps trying to sway their viewers to believe that the Republican candidate was in the lead so that the momentum would carry towards November. However, not all Republicans support Trump, so this assumption may not be a valid reason. Also, the fact that many of the individuals who watch Fox News are conservatives may hold some meaning behind this fiasco. Perhaps Fox News was attempting to sway conservatives who were on the fence about voting for the Republican nominee to rally behind a common candidate against the common enemy. Either way, Fox News has decided to drop their socialization role, which is presenting the same information and portraying cultural values to national audiences (Lenz and Holman, pg. 142), by giving their loyal viewers false information regarding their own poll. Surprisingly, Fox News has done another poll since that incident. Their new survey, which was taken on Thursday, September 15th, 2016, shows that 41% of voters that participated in the new survey stated that they would vote for Hillary Clinton while 40%

Juvenile Delinquency

Juvenile delinquency is the habitual committing of criminal acts or offenses by a young person, especially one below the age at which ordinary criminal prosecution is possible. Up until recently juvenile delinquency only accounted for males. However, girls are now the fastest growing segment of the juvenile justice system, even though the rates of juvenile offending are declining. Due to the increase of the female juvenile population, some female juveniles are being held in adult prisons. Because the rates of female offending has been on the rise, there has been an increase in the likelihood that a teen would be arrested while she is pregnant. There are approximately 24,000 pregnant teens arrested a year, which is 670 on a given day. The chances of a girl being arrested while she is pregnant is somewhat high due to the fact that about 85% of girls that are detained are sexually active and fewer than 50% of them use some form of protection. Because the amount of female juveniles being detained are increasing and the juvenile justice system was geared more towards the male population, there are several resources that are lacking especially for pregnant teens and teen mothers. In the novel Inside This Place, Not of It by Ayelet Waldman and Robin Levi, the narrative on Olivia Hamilton, though she may not be a teen, provides a great example of the lack of services available to pregnant inmates and mothers. Olivia Hamilton was arrested for embezzling money to pay her bills. At

Cadavers Ethical Dilemmas

Life after death can be helpful to scientists and doctors. One way in which this is possible is the use of cadavers. Cadavers are bodies of people who have recently died. These people donate their bodies to science so doctors can go over the body and study why that specific person has died or try to figure out how people die from different diseases. While cadavers have been used for thousands of years dating back to the ancient Egyptians in 300 B.C (Roach, 2003) there have been many since then who have used cadavers for science. Some have even used living people such as prisoners to dissect and study. While corpses have been studied for thousands of years they were unsure of how to preserve the bodies for long so bodies were being needed more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was able to go in great detail and give me knowledgeable information about what she feels is important in the scientific community. Moral issues are always a problem when we talk about research on dead bodies and I feel that she did a nice job going over some moral dilemmas that science has had to go through and work on. I enjoyed the book in whole and I felt that it gave me everything that I needed to improve my knowledge on the topic of cadavers. Cadavers are interesting, gross, cool, and make learning worthwhile. I appreciate the fact that I am able to work on and study the cadaver s weekly. The amount of care that goes into keeping the cadavers preserved is also something that I find to be a great thing. Taking care of this person that is no longer living gives you the feeling that no matter the condition humans are able to overcome any discomforts they may have with studying and can keep the experiments coming. I believe that it is essential that we continue to use corpses to experiment. I also feel as though the way some of the experiments are conducted could be changed to keep the integrity of the person intact. Even though they may be dead when we begin to look at them at one time they were a human being that deserves some
