Living with Attention Deficit Disorder Essay

Living with Attention Deficit Disorder Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is a neurobiological disorder. Recent research shows that the symptoms of ADD are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. (Rebecca Chapman Booth) With ADD there is a flaw in the way the brain manages the neurotransmitter production, storage or flow, causing imbalances. It has been suggested that as many as 80 percent of ADD cases are the result of genetics with the remainder caused by toxins, trauma or illness introduced during pregnancy, delivery or the newborn period and not, from poor parenting, family problems, poor teachers or schools, to much TV, food allergies, or excess sugar. It is important for people to understand that ADD is a real... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Experts at the National Institute of Mental Health, estimate that ADHD affects 3 to 5 percent of school age children and two to three times as many boys as girls. One child in a classroom of 20, is affected. This is not an epidemic, however the media likes to sensationalize ADHD, as if it were. If one person in a family is diagnosed with ADD, there is about a 25 percent probability that another person in the family also has some form of Attention Deficit Disorder . (Peter Jaksa, Ph.D.) Living with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) can be complex and no two individuals are exactly alike. Symptoms and problems are often unique and may vary in type, number and intensity from person to person. (Akron General) Some indicators suggestive of ADD are: Being easily distracted, forgetting things, procrastination, difficulties making decisions, verbal impulsiveness, expressing thoughts in speech or in writing, having periods of depression or low self esteem, frequently late or rushed, reading comprehension or retention, emotionally sensitive, easily upset, low frustration tolerance, easily bored, impulsive spending, personal or family history of substance abuse, depression or anxiety, strong need to have things their way and a intense need for excitement. Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity (ADHD), the most common of the psychiatric disorders that appear in childhood, are often the subject of great concern on the

Do Men With Excessive Alcohol Consumption And Social...

Many current studies are being done on the topic of addictive personalities. This has been a debatable topic over the years. In this article, researchers are analyzing the men who had consumed excessive amount of alcohol vs. those in a controlled population. The main objective of this article, is to provide the statistical information, as to rather or not men who consumes alcohol have different personalities to those who are under a controlled population. Questions to be determined are: Do men with excessive alcohol consumption and social stability have an addictive personality versus those who are in a controlled set population? Are there any hidden traits that could cause addictive personalities? Are there any specific personality patterns in those who excessively drink? To evaluate both sets, they were separated into groups or into multidimensional typologies. The males who excessively drink (n=100) and those in a controlled population (n=131). The heavy drinkers were then recruited by advertisement in a regional daily newspaper, while the controlled group was based Swedish Twin Registry. These personalities were then assessed by the Karolinska scales of personalities (KSP). Which were then compared with the normative data. To investigate further, the researchers then used a multivariate projection based approach to look for any hidden structures of traits and any relationships within the groups of heavy drinkers vs. the controlled population to see what would be

Argumentative Essay On Positivity

Everyone has experiences with that one person who drags you down and eventually rubs off their negative perspectives and attitudes on you. When you come home, your parents have noticed the way you are talking to them has changed, not for the good. In all age groups, negativity impacts your physical healthand will decrease your lifespan; therefore, we need to take steps to destress with positivity. Creating a more positive atmosphere starts with ridding of a negative bias, broadening your perspectives of the world, and building yourself up. Speaking negative words and putting off negative attitudes creates stress, which is harmful to your overall health. According to a study done in February 2017, University of Minnesota reports negativity can create chronic stress, which upsets the body s hormone balance, depletes the brain chemicals required for happiness, and damages the immune system. Simply Psychology states in 2010, when we are stressed, the immune system s ability to fight off antigens is reduced, explaining why we are more susceptible to infections or illnesses. Stress can also be linked to unhealthy side effects like headaches or ulcers. Negativity will influence your life in more ways then you will recognize and your overall health could suffer from something like your attitude, thoughts, or feelings. Many people suffer from the side effects of stress and choose unhealthy coping methods. They will resort to drinking or smoking to rid of their negative feelings

The Effect Of Bacterial Growth On Space Flight

Early studies have documented that bacterial growth increases in space flight; yet, the inherent mechanisms beholden to this growth have not been discovered. As the bacteria devour nutrients, they discharge corollary that can affect growth and impact ultimate cell population denseness. It is acknowledged that these metabolic processes charge a reduction in density of the fluid zone and the solute gradient about every cell. Along this planet, this fluctuation in density leads to an elasticity transfer of the expelled by products. The fluid motion enclosing the cells can be changed through the restricting of the movement to just diffusion because of the lack of activity and deposit in the low gravity space flight surroundings. From this biophysical representation, it was speculated that an increase in speed impacts the lag phase period and the final cell s denseness of suspended cultures of bacteriain a deviating way. This is because of the modifications obtained in the extra cellular fluid constitution. Contained in the paper are experiments of different accelerations that frequently sustained this hypothesis, culmination in foreseeable growth kinetics. Other experiments show plumes of fluid that are visible to the naked eye emerging from metabolizing bacterial cultures. If related fluid kinetics were discovered to come about on a microscopic level, it might inform us of how acceleration impacts bacterium growth kinetics.

Feminist Analysis Of Legally Blonde

The 2001 comedy film Legally Blonde tells the story of Elle Woods, an upbeat and optimistic sorority girl who, over the course of the movie, transitions from a simple college student with few professional aspirations into a successful law student. Elle initially presents herself as a stereotypical sorority girl: vain, superficial, and self obsessed. As such, she consistently faces discrimination from her friends, family, and colleagues alike. The filmwants the audience to view Elle as a womanwho rises up above the stereotypethrough hard work and intelligence, and who proves herself as a capable individual in a discriminatory society. Because of this, some view Elle as a feminist icon, a person who empowers women to achieve equality to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than a woman fighting for a lifelong dream, we see an emotional woman going through a rough break up and dealing with it through drastic measures. This discrepancy completely disparages the idea of her being a feminist icon. It is true that Elle is no longer motivated by Warner in any way by the end of the movie, indicating that she may have grown and seen the errors of her ways, but at no point in the entire film is it directly stated or even implied that Elle has a passion or interest in the study of law. Even if she truly has readjusted her perspective by the end of the film, it comes too late to have any sort of impact, as our impressions of Elle have already been made. Her actions don t send the message of empowerment to achieve one s dreams through hard work and passion, but rather to achieve happiness through obtaining the approval of a man. Further damaging the view of Elle as a feminist icon is the fact that she consistently reinforces harmful stereotypes about women. Elle is clearly meant to be presented as a sorority stereotype, but rather than overcoming and breaking free from it, she proves it to be true time and time again. Firstly, Elle reinforces the idea that women are overly emotional and quickly disheartened. In the very first scene of the movie, Elle is dumped by Warner and proceeds to have an emotional breakdown, crying and shrieking loudly in a public setting. This is further reinforced later in the

Stranger Than Fiction Sequence

#1 Stranger Than Fiction s opening sequence is a single sequence shot, where the camera is flying in from space towards the earth, continuing down over a city, flying by building with a low frequency Whoosh , through buildings via open windows, and coming to a stop inside a darkened room, centered on a wrist watchwith a fluorescent blue display. A voice over begins and says This is the story of Harold Crick, and his wrist watch , (Voice over by Karen Eiffel, played by Emma Thompson). The sequence continues showing a typical mundane day for Harold Crick, (Played by Will Farrell), a Senior Agent for the Internal Revenue Service, and concludes showing Harold going to bed, then it cuts to show a man giving his son a bicycle as a gift, and a young woman searching the classified ads for a job. Throughout the sequence the voice over describes the way Harold approaches life. Illustrating his peculiarities are Document like Graphics interlaced with Harold on the screen, highlighting Harold s affinity for documented facts and figures, and the voice over occasionally interjects thoughts from Harold s watch. I have dreams that have gone unrealized, and a few regrets, and this film speaks to that condition. In a kind of quirky way, this film cries out for each of us to live the life we ve always wanted. Get involved with those around us. Too often we become mired down in day to day minutia, and by the time we shake ourselves awake, more years have passed than are still left for us to live. When I saw this film was an option for this assignment, I was thrilled. I have recommended this film to friends and family, the casting is perfect, the music scores the film perfectly, the story is quirky and a bit off center, and it all combines into in a truly great

John Lennon s Influence On American Culture

The Beatles does the name ring a bell? All You Need is Love , Hey Jude ? The four members, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and John Lennon were idolized and known all around the world. Everywhere they went they were huge influences with everything they said and did. From the time of formation of the English rock band The Beatlesin 1960 up until his assassination on December 8th, 1980, John Lennonwas a tremendous influence to society as an antiwar activist and a musical legend. John Lennon had always been a hardcore hippy while he was part of The Beatles, however, after their breakup in 1970 and his marriage to Yoko Ono, peace and helping fight against the Vietnam War became his main focus. He d explored many religions, but decided love, peace and music were what he put his whole heart into. His lyrics were his feelings and his beliefs. In 1975, Lennon s single Imagine Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He knew that the youth who would be eligible to vote next election would have more liberal beliefs with Lennon s guidance. Mitchell informed the president, who at the time was Richard Nixon, that the activist would greatly harm his chances of being re elected with his conservative beliefs, his aggressive fight against the drug war, and Lennon s ability to donate large amounts of money to rallies. (1) As the only solution the president and his advisors could create, the attempt to deport John Lennon began. For four entire years, the Immigration and Naturalization services tried and tried to deport him. The only crime they could use against him was a previous drug arrest on October 18th, 1968. After these four years, the fight to rid Lennon of the States was overturned October 7th of 1975 by the US Court of Appeals and Lennon s residency in Manhattan was made permanent the following year.

Religious Beliefs And Its Effects On Children

It is a question that has become increasingly difficult for religious parents to completely ignore: Are parents who raise their children to hold religious beliefs instilling a form of permanent indoctrination? Many atheists argue this today, one of the most famous being zoologist Richard Dawkins. In a detailed article about this topic, he stated, There really is an important difference between including your children in harmless traditions, and forcing on them un evidenced opinions about the nature of life or the cosmos (Dawkins). In another interview he said, Children do need to be protected so that they can have a proper education and not be indoctrinated in whatever religiontheir parents happen to have been brought up in (Humphreys). Atheists argue that brainwashing plays into account when raising a child with religious beliefs, which leads to an influence on their future, and way of thinking. These individuals propose that we should raise children without any religious beliefs at all and allow them to reach a level of intellectual maturity so that they can choose their own system of beliefs. Some might support this argument and find it reasonable. However, due to the fact that parents raise their children according to their own beliefs, having the best interest for their kids at heart and contradicting with the concept of brainwashing by the number of atheists there are today, religious parents have every right to raise their children according to their own

Introduction

The Accra Beach Hotel and resort had a prime beach front location on the South Coast of Barbados, just a short distance from the airport and the capital city of Bridgetown. The centerpiece of its lush gardens was the large swimming pool, which had a shallow bank for lounging plus a swim up bar. In addition, there was a squash court and a fully equipped gym. ▪ ABH should consider the financial impact such as if their hotel will lose money on the WICB deal ▪ Next is the marketing impact is how valuable is the publicity that the WICB booking will generate for the hotel. And if it will be positive for the hotel s image, neutral, or negative. In addition to the impact on room sales is that if it will help/hinder the hotel in obtaining local patronage for meals, bar, and conferences/group events for customers from the Bridgeport area who don t need rooms (note that it has state of the art conference facilities). ▪ Guest experience impact should also be considered, if the presence of the hotel of a large group of sportsmen will enhance of detract from the experience of vacationers and business people staying at Accra Beach Hotel ▪ Lastly, is the guest relations impact, ABH should consider if loyal guests will be upset if they cannot reserve a room at the hotel during the periods when the cricket home series is playing and if it will weaken their bonds with the hotel.

How should ABH decide on the booking request of WICB? a) What action of the managementshould be taken? ▪ Cherita Howard should conduct a financial analysis if the booking request of WICB will be profitable. She needs to calculate the revenues received from the WICB booking, the direct costs associated with that

In The Time Of The Butterflies Summary

In the Time of the Butterflies revolves around the Mirabal sisters, women living in a very patriarchal, macho society. Their personal struggles are part of the power of their story, as they stand not only as symbols of rebellion against Trujillo, but at the same time as loving, independent women with husbands and children. Alvarez shows how the resistance against women in politics can even be propagated by the women themselves, as both Mamá and Patria initially express sentiments that women are inferior to men, or else are somehow purer and so shouldn t dirty themselves with politics. In talking to the interview woman in the present day, Dedé says that women followed their husbands, but she knows that this is an excuse, as she is the

Reflection And Discussion On Absorption Spectra

3. Results and Discussion

3.1. Absorption spectra study of 5 aminopyridine Schiff base (L1 and L2):

The absorption spectrum of probes L1 and L2 (40 μM) were investigated in the presence of metals ions in DMSO solvent. As shown in Fig. 1, Schiff base L1 exhibited absorption band at 269 nm, 310 nm, 323 nm and 347 nm; and L2 at 264 nm, 319 nm, 341 nm, 439 nm and 462 nm, that may be attributed to π π* charge transfer transition. However, no remarkable changes were observed in absorptionspectra after the addition of 1 equivalent various metal ions such as Ag(I), K(I), Li(I) Na(I), Co(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), Mg(II), Hg(II), Mn(II), Al(III), Cr(III), Gd(III) and Nd(III) ions. Interestingly upon the addition of zinc and nickel ions to the probe L1 absorbance peak shifted to higher wavelength (red shift) from 347 nm to 413 nm and 410 nm, respectively. Thus, L1 Zn(II) and L1+Ni(II) complexes exhibited color change from colorless to intense yellow color. Similarly, the addition of Fe(III) and UO2(II) to the probe L2, absorbance peak lead to decrease at 439/462 nm while new peak appear at 355 nm and 366/ 515 nm, respectively. Consequently, the absorbance peaks of L2 Fe(III) complexes shifted to UV region, thus light yellow color turned to colorless, and in case of L2 UO2(II) complex absorbance peak showed red shift effect, that resulted in dark yellow color (Fig. 2a and b). Thus, absorption spectral changes were enabled to detect Ni(II), Zn(II), Fe(III) and UO2(II) as a naked eye

A Research Study On Using Ng Tube Feeding

When a patient no longer has the desire to or appears unable to feed themselves orally, a request for a feeding tube ensues completion by the nurse. Specifically, when a patient has prolonged bleeding, facial trauma, upper GI blockage and cancer. An enteral tube feeding nasally situated has capabilities for only a short period of time. The NG tube catheter tip normally resides inside the stomach or in the small intestine past the pylorus. The number one complication involved with the use of NG tube feeding persists as incorrect placement. A nurse can unintentionally place an NG catheter into the lungs, most notably when a patient has little to no gag reflex. Completing a test for gastric contents, pH or performing a chest x ray after inserting an NG tube for confirmation of proper insertion. Another major complication when using NG tube feeding is aspiration within the lungs due to gastric substances enter the trachea and into the bronchial spaces of the lungs. Keeping the head of the bed elevated greater than 30 degrees will reduce aspiration to least possibility. Applying a gastrostomy or jejunostomy tube for enteral feedings when NG tube has interfered with therapy or ensues intolerance. The gastrostomy tube, PEG, tip situated in the stomach and exits the body through the left upper quadrant of the abdomen where a bumper holds it into location. Internally positioned by a doctor during an endoscopy, radiology or surgery. Placement of a jejunostomy tube

King Lear Act 1 Scene Essay

What impact did Act 1 Scene 1 of King Lear have on you?

The first scene of the first act of King Lear had a genuinely dramatic affect upon me. This first glimpse into the world of Lear and his subordinates sets the premise for the whole play, unravelling within the first few pages, themes which I believe will become increasingly evident. The scene opens with the introduction of three characters Kent, Gloucester and Edmund. Of these three characters the only one who seems not to have been shown in an unfavourable light yet, by this brief introduction, is Kent. This could be intentional to set It is made clear Edmund is a bastard, and therefore illegible for proper acknowledgement as the son of an Earl. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point of the scene it can be clearly noticed how similar Goneril and Regan are, as Regan asks Lear to measure her worth as he measured Goneril s. This closeness seems symbolic in a way to the close knit coven in Macbeth, as these women seem to have underlying deceptive qualities. Before considering Cordelia s answer to Lear, we must note her comments made during Goneril and Regan s speeches . This is keen use of the aside speech by Shakespeare as the audience would be able to hear Cordelia s confusion over what her response shall be and her truthful belief that her love is more ponderous than her tongue. Her indecision over what to say to her father shows really how much she does not want to offend him, but instead she does the opposite, as he cannot see beyond his pride, to her loyal words. When she says Nothing , she is indicating to him that he should no the worth of her love for him. The king, shocked with this appearance of ingratitude in his favourite child, desired her to consider her words, and to mend her speech, lest it should mar her fortunes. Cordelia then tells Lear that she loves him according to her station, and as much as he loves her as his daughter. She is as she says young...and true . Lear is obviously hurt but it seems, due to the severity of his actions, that his pride and title have been harmed more. He disowns her and she becomes his sometime daughter . At this point Kent intervenes on Cordelia s behalf
