Leda Vs Madonna Essay

Vyse exhibited two figurative works at the 1947 Royal Academy these were Leda (RA1198), and Madonna (RA1212). Records show the figures modelled in terra cotta, but there are no further descriptive details. In 1948, he exhibited three figure groups at the Royal Academy, Orangs (RA1948), and Boy on a Bull (RA1341). These were not new models, but Vyse had not previously exhibited them at the RA in a terracotta form. Intriguingly, Vyse s third exhibit he again titled Leda (RA1339). How this figure did or did not differ from the exhibit of the previous year so far remains unexplained. It had become apparent to Vyse, his wife Nell would not be returning to him as either wife or partner at Cheyne Row. Since 1940, he had worked by himself at modelling figures and throwing pots on the wheel. However, a Miss Barbara Waller, Vyse s former student at Farnham College of Art, would be the cause of change. Barbara Joan Waller... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wanting to remain in London, she took up nursing for the period of hostilities. After WWII, when teaching resumed at the Royal College of Art, and wanting to resume her scholarship, Barbera returned to study at the sculpture school, finally graduating with honours in

Archimedean Comulas Essay

2.2 Archimedean Copulas and Their Application

Archimedean copulas are an important family of copulas described by Genest and MacKay (1986 a, b) and their applications explained in many fields such as actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance and insurance; for more information, see Frees and Valdez (1998), Klugman and Parsa (1999) or Denuit, et al., (2004). One of the important features of this family is being parametric. The General structure of Archimedean copula is a function called generating function.

The insurer reserves are defined expected of present value for these payments at the beginning of each year until the death. Since the death of a person is a random variable, the calculation of the insurer s reserves is of particular importance. By considering the annual payments of the whole life annuity, we can obtain the insurer s reserves for different periods of time in survival of both individuals , with using the Archimedean copulas of the previous sections. From equation (2.6) we have, where (2.7) is the annual reserves of the whole life annuity (defined at Gerber (1997)) in the survival of both individuals status. The Truth And Reconciliation Commission

In Country of My Skull, Antjie Krog writes pieces of prose, poetry, narrative and transcripts raw testimonies of the victims and offenders, during the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) hearings. These hearings were put in place by Nelson Mandela, which allowed witnesses, whose human rights were violated, to give statements and possibly testify before the Commission. These hearings were not only aimed at justice but the truth. The hearings allowed amnesty to those who committed the crimes as long as they could prove that they were just following orders from their superiors. Krog wrote Country of My Skull about her journalistic covering, for the SABC (public broadcasting service in South Africa), of the two years that the TRC... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was a system of segregation put in place by the National Party, which governed in South Africa from 1948 to 1994. Under this system there was an extended period of gruesome violence against individuals of colored skin in South Africa. Black citizens began to resist this prejudice though and also used violence against the enforcers of Apartheid. Many thousands of individuals applied for the amnesty program and a couple thousand testified through the course of 2 years. The reactions of white South Africans to the revelations of the Truth Commission can be divided into two main groups... There are those who refuse point blank to take any responsibility and are always advancing reasons why the commission should be rejected and regarded as a costly waste of money. And then there are those who feel deeply involved and moved, but also powerless to deal with the enormity of the situation (Krog 221). A lot of Afrikaners felt a sense of guilt for the behavior they allowed to happen from their race towards another. Krog was one of these Afrikaners. Although blood was not shed on Krog s hands directly, she took on the shame of her race. People often associate their behavior and actions from the groups they belong to. Race, ethnicity and political groups, is an example of this. Often times individuals feel proud to be a member of their group and it becomes an important part of how they view themselves and their identity.

Comparison Of 12 Angry Men And Dead Poets Society

12 Angry Men and Dead Poets Society Deconstruction In the movies 12 Angry Men and Dead Poets Society, there were many leadership traits that became evident as each movie progressed. . Both movies provide similar, yet different, examples of contingency, transformational, and authentic leadership; as well as Aristotle s Rhetoric related to persuasion. As a leader you will need to know what kind of leadership trait to employ when dealing with a diverse group of people because if you cannot, you will fail as a leader eventually. In this paper I will analyze and deconstruct multiple leadership styles and approaches, and rhetoric styles that can apply to daily life.

There are several Leadership approaches in the movie, the first is the behavioral style leadership approach, and this approach emphasizes the behavior of the leader. This distinguishes it from the trait approach (Northouse, 2016, p. 71). Researchers studying the behavioral approach determined that leadership is comprised of two general kinds of behaviors: task behaviors and relationship behaviors (Northouse, 2016, p. 71). Task behaviors aid in goal accomplishment, while relationship behaviors focus on helping subordinates feel more comfortable with themselves. In Dead Poets Society is John Keating is a new poetry professor and a Welton alumnae, who wants to inspire his young men to look at the world differently, to suck the marrow out of life , and find their own place in the world. Mr. Keating finds this to

America Is Not Universally Free Essay

America is not universally free. This is easily proven with examples from a variety of subjects. For example, take LGBT rights. De jure, gay marriage is legal nationwide. But de facto, when one looks at the social reality dealt with by people who are not heterosexual, one finds that not everyone has the realistic ability to do so. Even on a de jurelevel, there are the bathroom bills, passed by North Carolina and looked at by many states, designed to limit transgender people s ability to use the bathroom. But even if one deals with that, and all of the other issues of systematic discrimination faced by modern America race, class, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc. on both a de jure and de factolevel, America would still not be universally free. What do I mean by this? Well, firstly I need to be entirely clear about what I mean by freedom. The Oxford English Dictionary defines freedom as the state or fact of being free from servitude, constraint, inhibition, etc.; liberty. This is true; however, any reasonable person can determine that that does not even begin to cover what freedom really means. There is emotional value in the word that simply cannot be captured by such a clinical definition. When I say freedom, what I really mean is the reasonable ability to make choices about one s own actions and one s own life. This does not have to be free from consequence, but it has to be a reasonable possibility on a de facto level. What exactly a

Ethics And The Enhanced Interrogation Techniques

ETHICS AND THE ENHANCED INTERROGATION TECHNIQUES

Introduction

The military and the government security organs normally apply numerous methods in obtaining critical information about criminal activities. Some of these techniques are considered acceptable by the human rights and other non governmental organizations while others are considered as violating the human rights as stated by the constitution of major countries and states. There has been a strong debate on the use of these techniques and many have defined them as torture.

This paper considers the application of enhanced interrogation techniques and establishes the ethicality and necessity of applying them in the fight against terror to obtain vital information. The ethicality is discussed with reflection to the five frameworks of ethics.

While the law itself condemns use of torture for any purpose, torture becomes necessary to be used in particular critical instances. According to Miles, the United States senate allowed the use of enhanced interrogation techniques on a number of cases and detainees. The human rights should be considered first in any event whether in interrogation or any other course of action1. The policy makers have found themselves between hard and difficult decisions to make on the techniques for obtaining vital information from terrorists who are trained heavily on resisting from giving information when caught in the wrong side of the law.

most certainly scientifically based; he wanted to use her as an experiment. Since he has basically brought his wife into great shame of having the birthmark, she considers removing it, and instantaneously we see that Aylmer says, I have spent much thought upon the subject ; there is no way he is going to give up this opportunity to bring science into their relationship. In the lab where they begin to work on Georgiana is where we are introduced to the idea that there is a polarity between the spiritual and earthly sides of Aylmer and Aminadab. Aminadab is a man of low stature, but bulky frame, with shaggy hair hanging about his visage. This personage had been Aylmer s underworker during his whole scientific career, and was admiably fitted for that office by his great mechanical readiness, he executed all the details of his master s experiments. He was basically making the whole lab run and doing all the work. Although he did was incapable of comprehending a single principal he represented what Aylmer lacked. While Aylmer was slender, and had a pale, intellectual face representing the spiritual element

Pam Deaton, the recreation supervisor in Community Services with the city of Pleasanton stated Back in the 1970 s, Pleasanton was a trail blazer for transportation for seniors and the disabled. The city council was quite progressive in their thinking about seniors and made this a top priority (Deaton, 2015). She explained that the monies paid for vans, driver s, and training. They were self sufficient. It started in 1972 by a woman s club in Pleasanton who became volunteer drivers for seniors. They had extremely limited transportation and after about 5 6 years, the city of Pleasanton stepped in and funded the transportation for seniors. In the 1990 s ADA mandates made it necessary to have comparable transportation for everyone so they excepted the Federal Funds and became ADA compliant. The federal funds helped pay for LAVTA ( Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority) which was an ADA provider that serviced three cities but Pleasanton still ran their own transportation

Although the industry is beneficial from a life cycle assessment point of view, over the years it has gravitated toward countries with low labor costs, weak regulations on occupational safety, and limited environmental enforcement. The global shift in the industry to countries with comparatively weaker regulatory systems is of particular concern as ships contain many hazards that can have significant detrimental effects on humans and the environment if not dealt with properly. Currently, the global center of the ship breakingand recycling industry is located in South Asia, specifically Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. These three countries account for 70 80 percent of the international market for ship breaking of ocean going vessels, with China and Turkey accounting for most of the rest. Only about 5 percent of the global volume of such vessels is scrapped outside these five countries.

This study focuses on the SBRI in Bangladesh and Pakistan to get a better understanding of the economics of the industry and the environmental impacts arising out of such activity and to explore possible ways in which such environmental effects may be mitigated.
