The Importance Of Physical Activities

Research has shown that healthy habits established early in life, such as a balanced diet and participating in regular physical activity, may continue into adolescence and adulthood, thereby reducing a person s risk of developing conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. This report investigates the students at Ferny Grove State High School meet the guidelines recommended by the Australian Government. I achieved this by conducting a survey of ten people in my class, and the data suggests that the majority of the people who participated in the survey didn t meet the guidelines. After evaluating the data, I recommended that the students should less time doing sedentary activities, and more time doing physical activities.

This report will investigate whether the students at Ferny Grove State High School are meeting the guidelines recommended by the Australia s physical activity and sedentary behaviour guidelines for young people aged 13 17 years. A survey will be conducted, then the data will be evaluated and compared to guidelines to see if the students are getting enough physical exercise. Recommendations will then be made on how the students can stay fit and healthy. This report will also cover the importance of physical activity for adolescences, the need for intervention to increase physical activities levels in Australia and national health strategies that aim to improve physical activity in Australia.

Captivity Narrative Essay

One of the most popular music producers today, William Moore, also known as DJ Esco, once found himself locked up in a jail in Dubai. He was held Captive for 56 days. In one of the songs he produced, he told his tale of captivity and how it felt to be amongst a culture that is completely different from your own. He states in the song that he felt as if he were an alien among the people of Dubai. This is an example of a captivity narrative. Captivity narratives are usually stories of people captured by enemies whom they consider uncivilized, or whose beliefs and customs they oppose. A few other examples of captivity narratives include, Twelve Years a Slave (2013) by Solomon Northup, Olaudah Equianos Narrative (1789), and a more up to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the film, Bass asks Edwin Epps about the treatment and conditions of his slaves, which were horrid, and Epps replies with, They ain t hired help. They re my property. (McQueen) One last example of people being held captive would be the Iranian Hostage Crisis. 52 hostages were held in an embassy for 444 days. While they were never severely injured, the hostages endured awful treatment by their captors; they were displayed in front of cameras blindfolded, they could not talk, read, or change clothes. (Iran Hostage Crisis) There are a number of ways one can escape captivity, according to these narratives. In Equiano s narrative, he achieves freedom by purchasing it from his owner, Robert King, for 40 pounds. What! said he, give you your freedom? Why, where did you get the money; have you got forty pounds sterling? Yes sir, I answered. How did you get it ; replied he; I told him, Very honestly. The captain then said he knew I got the money very honestly, and with much industry, and that I was particularly careful. (Equiano 719 720) In Twelve Years a Slave, Northup gains his freedom by escaping Louisiana and fleeing to New York and thus gaining his freedom in 1853. The

Nonverbal

Nonverbal communication is communication through sending and receiving wordless cues such as body language between two people. Communication can be through gestures and touch, body language, posture, facial expression, or eye contact. Face to face interactions of nonverbal communication can be classified into three areas: environmental conditions, physical characteristics of the communicators, and behaviors of communicators during the interaction. Approximately two thirds of all communication is made up of nonverbal communication. Scientific research of nonverbal communication and behavior began with the 1872 publication of Charles Darwin s The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals. Since that time, there has been an abundance of research on the effects and expressions of unspoken communication and behavior. (Cherry) Nonverbal communication is made up of several components. Facial expression is one such component, and is responsible for a huge proportion of nonverbal communication. Facial expression can be a smile or a frown. It can convey happiness, sadness, anger, or fear. Another component of nonverbal communication is gestures, deliberate movements and signals used to communicate meaning without words. These can include waving, pointing, or using fingers to indicate numeric amounts. Paralinguistics is vocal communication separate from actual language which can include voice tone, loudness, inflection and pitch. Body language and posture can include

A Comparison of Two Advertisements Essay

A Comparison of Two Advertisements

I have looked at 2 advertisements, one is from Sugar magazine and the other from Style magazine. The advertisement from Sugar, is for L Oreal Paris Colour Pulse Hair Dye ; the advertisement from Style is for Clinique Autumn 2004 close up on lips: modern metallics .

All advertisements are aimed at specific target audiences and as such require different ideas, linguistic devices and presentational features to attract them. The two advertisements I have chosen have different target audiences, reflected by the magazines that they come from, the language they use and the visuals.

Both my chosen advertisements have strong visuals. In the L Oreal Paris one,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This plays with words as it says close up on lips and the image is of close up lips with lipstick on.

In the L Oreal Paris advertisement the slogan is 10 lively colours to make your look pulse as often as you want! This is different from their usual slogan because you re worth it as they are just talking about the colour pulse hair die, so they wanted a slogan to link in with the product. The slogan is effective because the words lively and pulse make it sound alive and the words you and your make it sound like they are talking to you in person. Also, at the end of the slogan is an exclamation mark which makes it seem exciting.

The two advertisements both have copy but in the Clinique one it is much longer because it is aimed at an older target audience who are more interested in the copy content. The Advertisement aimed at the younger target audience has less copy, containing just the most important facts, because the visual impact is more to this age group.

The L Oreal Paris advertisement states that it washes out in 8 to 10 shampoos . This is an example of weasel words because they are not giving an exact figure but a range. This helps advertisers avoid making untrue statements about a product, words like probably and almost which sound like they are not entirely certain.

The Clinique advertisement uses lots of

Symbolism In The Invention Of Wings

Symbolism Within The Invention of Wings

The Novel The Invention of Wings, written by the American author, Sue Monk Kidd, contains numerous examples of imperative symbolism throughout the storyline, but what may be the most significant illustration is that of which is in the title. There was a time in Africawhen people could fly (Kidd 1), This all what left of your wings. They nothing but these flat bones now, but one day you gon get em back. (Kidd 1) being among the first lines of the novel, foreshadows what is to come. The main characters and narrators, Sarah and Handful, who are from two extremely contrasting ends of society, both have the desire to soar past social normality of the time.

Sarah Grimke is the middle child in the wealthy, slave holding, Grimke family, who begins to feel out of place throughout the course of her life due to her moral convictions and progressive mentality. Such was not looked highly upon for women in the 1800 s, leading to objectionable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Later Sarah s feminist outlook for women s rights at the time becomes obvious when she rebels against social standards. Handful and Sarah become allies and create an unlikely bond throughout the story; both realizing one another s desires for freedom. Sarah teaches Handful how to read; knowing that it was against the rules, because she made a promise to Charlotte to help free Handful. Did you know once, when we were girls, Charlotte made me vow that one day I would do whatever I could to help you get free? We were out by the woodpile where to little orphaned barn owl lived. I remember it like it was yesterday. I confess now, that s why I taught you to read. I told myself reading was a kind of freedom, the only one I could give. I m sorry, Handful. I m sorry I couldn t keep the vow any better.

Henry David Thoreau Rhetorical Devices

How do historical figures use rhetoric techniques in their writing? I believe that they use Aristotle s ethos, logos, and pathos of the rhetorical triangle. Two very important people that have used these tools of persuasion were Henry David Thoreau and Martin Luther King Jr . Both of these historical figures use the rhetorical triangle for different uses and reactions. Thoreau s rhetoric is calling for resistance, and King s rhetoric is calling for empathy and ending ignorance of race supremacy. Henry David Thoreaus Civil Disobedienceis persuading because of his authoritative language, political opinions, and an outreach to his readers. Martin Luther King Jr s Letter from Birmingham Jail is also persuading with his use of an analytical language, repetition, and criticisms. Not only are the authors using the same techniques, but also using them differently for their desired result. Thoreau s authoritative language is apparent throughout his writing. He writes as though he is reaching out to his audience, for example: Must the citizen ever for a moment, or in the least degree, resign his conscience to the legislator? Why has every man a conscience then? (para. 4). I believe his rhetorical use of logos is effective here. He is not only asking the reader, but also asking a rhetorical question to the reader as well. Thoreau s use of sarcasm goes along with his authoritative language within his rhetorical question. Everyone has their own right to think, and he is telling us that was won t be able to use our conscience if the government can control our thoughts. King s analytical language is very effective in his letter. He refers back to biblical references to analyze those events and compare them to his present. In his third paragraph, he tells his readers that he is where he is at because of injustice , and refers to a story about Paul, a disciple of Jesus Christ, and says, Apostle Paul left his village of Tarsus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to the far corners of the Greco Roman world, and so am I compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my home town (para. 3). Why does King repeatedly refer back to his biblical references? WE know that he was a preacher, so he can relate to these

Registered Nurse Career Research

What I Knew The career I am curious about is in the medical field, generally speaking, nursing. I have chosen to become a registered nurse because of its background, and how its characteristics require the use of creativity, problem solving, social skills, and critical thinking. Registered nurses use various skills to diagnose and apply certain care methods to specific patients. I know that nurses aid patients with various illnesses, diseases, disabilities, and injuries. I love helping people and the feeling I receive when helping people. It would also be very motivating to learn and discover things about the human body and how to fix any problems involving it.

What I Want to Know Before becoming a nurse, I would like to know the key aspects of this career. Such as the salary, more of what nurses do, the schooling required, the competitiveness, and if there are any benefits. I also want to know the negative aspects of the career to see what I m going to be involved in and if I d still be interested.

Findings My career research included looking over various sources such as websites and books that all said most of the same things about nursing. Being a registered nurse involves recording symptoms, providing support in rehabilitation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two programs that will get me on my way to becoming an RN. BSN courses include community health, leadership in nursing, healthcare, and management,

What s Eating Gilbert Grape

What s Eating Gilbert Grape is a 1993 American drama film written by Peter Hedges and directed by Lasse Hallstrom. The film s main characters are Johnny Depp as Gilbert Grape and Leonardo DiCaprio as Arnie Grape. The film depicts the burden of family caretaking and the affect it has on a family both mentally, physically, and financially. Gilbert is the primary caregiver for his mentally and developmentally disabled seventeen year old brother Arnie (who has the mental capacity of a young child), his morbidly obese mother Bonnie, known as Mama, and his two sisters Amy and Ellen. Amy, the oldest daughter, shares most of the household chores with Gilbert and helps with Arnie s care. She plays the mother figure role for Arnie even though Arnie s mother is alive. Ellen, the youngest daughter, is very negative in her feelings toward her family. She doesn t help much with the family because she is busy being a teenage girl. The movie takes place in the fictional small Midwestern town of Endora, Iowa. Gilbert says in the film s opening voiceover, Describing Endora is like dancing to no music...nothing much happens here, and never will, In one of the scenes, we understand that the father could not handle the pressures of life so he committed suicide 15 years earlier by hanging himself in the basement. Gilbert is concerned about the condition of the farmhouse so he calls his friend Tucker so they can check the stability of the floor by going into the basement. They bring in some

To back up your data you can use programs like Norton or cloud storage software. An example of why you would back up is if you had a virus on your computer you can revert to a previous back up that has all of your files but was saved before you got the virus.
