Indian Ocean Tsunami Essay

The impact of the Indian ocean tsunami

How would you feel if you were told that you and your beloved ones will face a terrible disaster in only a few minutes and there was nothing you can do to survive? This is what happened in the Indian ocean tsunami that was on December 26, 2004 when a giant earthquake occurred in the Indian ocean and unleashed a series of killer waves towards more than thirteen countries in which the most affected ones were Sumatra in Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Maldives. In this essay we will discuss the cause of this tsunami and its environmental, humanitarian and economic impact in the worst affected countries, Indonesia.

First of all, to understand the meaning of the tsunami, we have to know first the causes of it. According to one of the world s leading experts in tsunami science and mitigation, Dr.Eddie N. Bernard, tsunami generally occurred when a sudden large disturbance happens in the undersea floor which generates a series of ocean waves more than 7 meter high called tsunami. A huge undersea earthquake, underwater landslides and volcanic eruptions are some examples of the sudden undersea disturbance. The Indian ocean tsunami in 2004 was caused by a huge undersea earthquake occurred in the west coast of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia and since it was one of the biggest earthquake that ever happened over the past 40 years, it triggered the deadliest tsunami in the history (NOAA).

Explain Why Isaac Newton Shouldn T Be In Jail

Dear _Pope__, Isaac Newton shouldn t be in jail I know he disagreed with you guys, but that s his opinion. But he is important I mean his work mostly focused on several topics which eventually became the basis for the entire field of classical physics. What made him important is that he discovered gravity. The three laws of motion which led to a more powerful way to solving mathematics. If he is in jail he won t be able to teach what he discovered. He reached it by hard work and self confidence. Therefore he shouldn t be in jail. Furthermore, his discovery was important because it s been the three laws of motion which also formed the basis of modern physic. The discovery, he made also led to a more powerful way to solving mathematics.

Causes Of Coronary Artery Disease

The number one leading cause of death is heart diseases but more importantly the main heart disease, Coronary Artery Disease. The disease leads to an extreme chance of having heart attack s or heart palpitations. A cure or solution needs to be created in order to decrease the amount of people contracting the disease and or the deaths leading into them. A solution would save individuals from suffering from hospital payments and health changes. Health concerns frighten patients dealing with Coronary Artery Disease and they should be eliminated from people s lives. Coronary Artery Disease is the biggest disease known to affect millions of individuals. The disease is very complicated in analyzing and understanding. Coronary Artery disease is my main point in saying it needs to be further researched and

The Rise Of Technological Advancement

The past 20 years have undeniably been witness to continuously, and unabated change in many aspects of our individual lives. One of the major changes that I believe has encouraged our wakefulness is the rise in technological advancement. Our textbook explains how the light bulb is at fault for our decreasing sleep time, and now things such as the Internet, cable TV, and cell phones seem to be keeping us awake at night. I certainly have found myself surfing the internet, watching television, or scrolling down my apps on my cellphone for one more minute right before I go to sleep, far too many times to count. All of these unhealthy before bedtime rituals involve light, a deterrent of our much needed slumber. In terms of societal changes, I always seem to relate 20 years ago to simpler times, maybe because I was only a child then, but comparing it to today everything seems to go at a much faster speed now, almost as if there isn t enough hours in the day to accomplish our to do list which is why we have leaned towards decreasing our sleep time in order to get more accomplished. 20 years ago we did not have all of this technology flooding our everyday lives, people did not care about posting to Facebook or catching up on a reality show you have to watch all 12 episodes in one sitting, or text messaging every waking moment of our day. 20 years ago the day consisted of going to work in order to provide for the family, getting home in time for dinner, and tucking yourself

How To Describe A Day On A Rainy Day Essay

One cold wet afternoon in early November, the fog was so thick I felt a though I could reach out and grab it. It had been bright sunshine when we walked into that forest. Or should I say when we were chased into it. Earlier that morning it felt as though it would be just another ordinary Saturday. The birds were singing, the tractors were ploughing, but little did I know that at that point, this was no regular day for what was to come on the sunny day was very irregular indeed. Later on I decided to ring ben and see if he wanted to go on a walk together in the countryside. After about ten minutes we set of together through the fields and down the country lanes. All of a sudden ben stopped in the middle of the road and asked me if I had seen the forest ahead of us before. Confused I said no and we started up again and carried on with our walk. Out of nowhere a bull jumped out the hedgerow a chased ben and I towards the forest walls. We ran in and hid behind some trees close so to the edge. The bull seemed to know that we were there but didn t seem to want to go into the forest. Ben moved his head signalling that we should find a way out of the forest I nodded and came out of where I was hiding I turned and saw the bull staring at me but he didn t move I suddenly noticed that the fog around us was growing thicker and I could no longer see ben in front of me. I shouted for him but no reply. Suddenly I fell and heard a cry of which I thought sounded like ben I turned and

Panel Discussion On The State Of Texas

Panel Discussion

On April 21st, Dr. Saxe held a panel discussion that lasted an hour and 30 minutes. All type of people that work at the local and state level went there, from people running for different districts to the state representative, Chris Turner. During this panel of discussion, 8 persons had the time to introduce themselves, what they re running for, and what they would do if they get elected. This was a great day for this class because we had the opportunity to interact with people who holds positions in the state of Texas, giving us another view of how things work in Texas. The candidates presented during this panel discussion were Representative Chris turner, who serves in the higher education committee for district 101. Sheri Capehart, who serves in district 2, all of her sons graduated from Arlington ISD. Kelly Cannon, running for city council, district 1, she is the one involved with taking away the red lights in Arlington. A person running for district seven in favor of online voting, which I believe is ridiculous. Charlie Parker, he s the district 1 incumbent and an ex pilot from the navy. Dr. Victoria Myers, she taught political science in UTA but now she is running for district seven, which is responsible by how Arlington looks. John Hibbs, a member of the school district at Arlington, he has served there for 6 years. And last but not least Jamie Sullins, the president of Arlington Independent School District. All of these people intend to do what they

Essay on slyvia plath

Sylvia Plath s quot;Mirror, quot; shows a truly thoughtful look into the different sights and feelings a mirror would have if it were a live conscious being, unable to lie. By showing the thoughts and emotions that a mirror would emit, Plath makes you look inward towards how you present yourself not only to your mirror but also to yourself. This is an eye opening poem because of its truthful descriptionsof the relationship between the inner feelings of people and how their outward appearancesthat they portray of themselves affect them in and out of the public realm. Examples of this are put throughout the poem quot;Mirror, quot; and can be found in just about every line of the poem.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The next section of the poem introduces a woman into the life of the mirror. She look toward the mirror seeking to find what she truly wants to discover (beauty), and the mirror truthfully reflects back to her what it sees. She turns from the reflection as if to look for the quot;truth quot; in something else, not excepting what she has just seen. Unable to find it, the mirror sees her agitation and depression after seeing her true self within it. She is always looking into the mirror to make sure everything is perfect and to put everything in it s place, so to speak. In this the mirror, as the years seemingly pass, sees the young girl transform from her youth into an old woman and lose all that she has fretted over and over about throughout her life. Each day, she is reminded by the mirror of her lost youth and beauty that was once projected back at her so faithfully. The mirror in the poem is a representation of the truths in life that as a person is difficult to come to terms with in one s self. The woman s view of herself and her reluctance to accept her natural and God given beauty, shows how we all (as a society or as an individual) find it hard to accept ourselves for who we truly are. How we try to make ourselves into a conformed object of quot;popular beauty quot; based upon our outward appearance, instead of going by how our personal feelings that come from within us.
