C ELEB R ATING TH E H ELLOSC IENC E JOU RN EY FOREWORD BY JUSTIN PERETTSON HEAD OF SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERSHIPS, HELLOSCIENCE

4

When HelloScience began in 2017, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were only just beginning to catalyze collaborations around the world. Over the last five years, this has changed dramatically, as the SDGs and Sustainability considerations have helped to evolve public-private partnerships and impact focused innovation. The result of this evolution has also been important in helping HelloScience identify and frame its work, including issues linked to water, cleaning and hygiene, and the future of food.

More than anything, HelloScience has served as a powerful springboard - a space to develop unique approaches to exploring global challenges, to new ways of working and to developing new relationships. And a lot has been learnt along the way – including how to develop processes that can connect real world activities with digital collaboration, to using visual storytelling as a way to unpack and present complex issues, and to finding the best possible combinations of skill sets and talents around the world. At the end of the day, the most important aspect of HelloScience has always been about people and relationships, and the willingness not just to try, but to do. That determination to deliver real results is alive and kicking, and the energy and pioneering spirit to drive meaningful impact across business, society and communities will persist well into the future. As we officially wind down the HelloScience platform, there is much to celebrate and reflect upon – but most of all, there is an opportunity: To say thank you to all those who have contributed to HelloScience, and to looking forward.

SOC IAL IN N OVATION 4 LIFE IN DIA PILOT PROJ ECT 03

The Challenge:

The Solution:

While the world grapples with a global pandemic and the unpredictability of climate change, there’s another issue that continues to threaten millions around the globe; the ongoing water crisis in developing countries. For too long, communities have been locked out of the resources they need to regain control over their well-being. Awareness for this issue continues to grow but access to sufficient, reliable, and affordable drinking water continues to be a systemic issue in countries worldwide. At times, the water crisis issue can feel impossible and unsolvable, which is why 4Life Solutions joined with The Anarde Foundation, Nordin and Novozymes to pilot the SaWa-bag solution in India.

SaWa bag is a water purification device made from laminated plastic; it utilizes a decades old method of water pasteurization, which enables UV rays to kill 99.999% of pathogens usually found in water, making the water as clean as boiled water. One SaWa bag lasts for 500 cycles and cleans four litres of water per cycle, equivalent to a year’s worth of drinking water for two persons. SaWa bags are one of the most affordable, non-chemical water purification devices currently on the market.

The benefits of safe water are far reaching, impacting several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including improving health and reducing carbon emissions.

14

The Outcomes: Novozymes and 4Life highlight some of the key outcomes of the project: • The SaWa pilot was completed with the Thakurwadi villagers. The pilot was run over 3+ months with 96+ households (from Sept. until Nov. 2021)

Thakurwadi The pilot project took place in Thakurwadi, which is a village in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, India over a three month period in late 2021.

• Based on the pilot findings, it can be concluded that the SaWa Bags Project for Clean Drinking Water, has provided a substantial beneficial impact on the parameters like illness, medical expenses, child health, quality of drinking water in terms of bacterial contamination, etc. Around 85-90% beneficiaries are using the SaWa bags on a regular basis and found it very effective. Ketan Patel of 4Life added the following reflections on the collaboration: The collaborations have assisted us in building efficient implementation methodologies and exploring interesting CSR initiatives in India. We‘ve learnt the need to work with influencers in the community to increase awareness. Empowering and enabling community workers has assisted us in creating sustainable distribution mechanisms that will allow us to spread across the country.

This 4Life pilot-project is supported by Anarde Foundation, Novozymes and Nordin and championed by HelloScience®

In Fall 2020, Novozymes explored the Future of Clean - in the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic, as the world sought for innovative new solutions to reimagine the way we think about cleaning and hygiene. The activities proved to be an incredibly generative gathering - giving life to a range of partnerships and collaborations that have continued to grow since then. We provide brief profiles of two of the key collaborations that emerged since then and have developed further over the past year. The SKOSH Journey SKOSH is a cleaning start-up that has been on an exciting journey since their participation in the Future of Clean LiveLab. We hear from Tom Hackenberg - Co-Founder & CFO – outlined some of their experiences. Q: Can you tell us a bit about your company SKOSH and your product? We founded Skosh because we believe that the safety of both planet and people should not require any trade-offs – especially when it comes to the products we use every day! That’s why we developed a simple, local solution to a complex, global problem: With our cleaning agents in the form of tablets, we provide high-quality cleaning liquid while getting rid of plastic waste, toxic-ingredients and unnecessary CO2 emissions. Q: How has the open collaborative process with Novozymes helped you in accelerating the technology and the business? I remember when we kicked-off the HelloScience activities, that there were many different parties who were able to give feedback, who had an idea of the industry we are working in and just wanted to help us going forward with the idea we had: of combining probiotics with our cleaning tablets.

20

I think in general, just being on the HelloScience platform and having the different parties also following our development stage and giving feedback on those was super helpful. At each stage we were able to state certain needs we had and problems that emerged and people in the ecosystem were able to support us in those different areas as well. So, I think in general is good to have different groups and expertise combined, and that’s how innovations can emerge. Q: Where do you hope you can take this collaborative approach in the future? I see it mostly in new product development areas. We are now working on new product areas in different fields, both in household care but also personal care products. I think here is essential to learn from existing players who have been in the industry for a while, in order to exchange and share insights with one another. We might have a different view on the industry than they do and I think that’s the most valuable asset, to just combine different companies and start-ups, and established industry players with a lot of know-how and expertise in different fields.

2

“ Some opportunities are too small for the big companies to pursue them from the beginning and that’s exactly the environment where start-ups are being formed. Then, at some point, maybe the opportunity gets big enough for a big player to be interested in it as well and I think that’s something we can see in our industry as well innovation is built that way..”

The Future of Clean - Probiotic Cleaning Pilot What began as an idea in 2020 as part of the HelloScience Future of Clean , became a real-world collaboration bringing together a strong group of cross-sector partners in 2021. Novozymes joined forces with a number of cleaning companies and a startup, Aks2tal, in a partnership supported by Gladsaxe Municipality‘s local business service in the greater Copenhagen area. The aim of the collaboration was to test a solution to one of the key challenges in the post-COVID-19 world: the increased need for deep cleaning. Novozymes and Gladsaxe Municipality worked to test the probiotic cleaning product, Microvia™ Pro, developed by Novozymes. The call for collaboration attracted

22

several large cleaning companies, interested in trialing the new solution. The test design was developed by Novozymes together with the startup Aks2tal, which itself has a close collaboration with Forenede Service on new methods for dust binding. “Novozymes sees a great potential in using microbes to provide long-lasting cleaning benefits.” said Marta Kinnunen-Grubb, an industry technology specialist behind the experiment.

“ I loved the energy around it. I was happy to contribute to the mentoring of the project as a technical expert and we as Novozymes were excited to help support the collaboration.” Marta Kinnunen-Grubb, Industry Technology Specialist, Microbial Cleaning at Novozymes

BUILDIN G FOOD FUTURES In order to feed a growing population within planetary boundaries, we need to rethink how protein is made and sourced. Transforming food systems at scale will require radical new forms of collaboration, that bring together the most cutting-edge scientific and business expertise from across the industries and sectors.

Rethinking the Future of Proteins The 2021 U.N. Food Systems Summit set the stage to catalyze tangible, positive changes to the world’s approach to food systems and nutrition. Using the Summit as a source of inspiration, Novozymes, the world leader in biological solutions, aimed to encourage stakeholders to rethink the way we manufacture and source protein. In Autumn 2021, Novozymes announced the launch of the Myco-Protein Innovation Call – a global platform to cultivate new business collaborations to scale up the most promising innovations and ideas around how to use fungi as a source of protein. The Innovatoin Call created a space where companies focused on new ways of working with myco-proteins can benefit from synergies across themes and functions. The Innovation Call invited start-ups, research centres, academics, industry players, NGOs, and public entities focused on new solutions using fungal mycelium and myco-protein in food ingredients and products. A selection of teams were invited to co-create and innovate around the future of sustainable proteins in collaboration with Novozymes world-class scientific and business experts. Valerio Nannini, General Manager of Advanced Protein Solutions for Novozymes underscored the collaborative nature of building alternative protein futures, “It demands a change in the way we are going to approach the problems, where the mutual interests become more important than individual interests… Innovation is where business and creativity meet to create new

26

value for society. And this new value is not necessarily only economic – it extends into the areas of sustainability and development, building a better planet for all.” This vision was echoed by Ilanit Kabessa, Venture Partner of Novozymes’ Advanced Proteins area and Dr. Uri Weinheber, VC investor and venturing expert, “It’s realization of a chance to drive real innovation, investment and impact in a space that is going to become increasingly important to every single one of us, considering how we can best feed a growing population on a planet, combined with the climate emergency and related challenges of food security and nutrition. When you start to talk to a diverse group of people, you quickly realize that there is a strong, collective understanding of this challenge, as well as a willingness to work together. And the Innovation Call is very much the start of that process and over the coming weeks and months we’ll continue to work towards creating and facilitating the best groups of ideas and people with the resources needed to take projects forward.” Reflecting on the experience of the Innovation Call, they underscored the importance of collaboration, “If we could highlight one thing, it would be that great teams can achieve great things. And there are many more interested and likeminded people who share your passion out there than you at first realize – and even when they are on the other side of the world, collaboration makes distance disappear”.

“ I believe we as a company are trying to put together cuttingedge science with business in order to rethink proteins for good – for planet, for health, for improved taste and experience. For that, we need a collaborative approach, working as fast as we can, and working across the whole ecosystem, with all stakeholders.” Valerio Nannini General Manager, Advanced Protein Solutions, Novozymes

“ It’s a moment of disruption in the agri-food industry and an opportunity to create healthy and sustainable solutions via new technologies – and new growth opportunities.” I lanit Kabessa Venture Partner, Advanced Proteins, Novozymes

PARTN ER AN D COLL ABOR ATOR PROFILES 06 The success of HelloScience has been driven by key partnerships with organizations across the Scandinavian region and around the world. We profile a few of our key partners here.

28

PARTN ER: S U STAINIA Rasmus Schjødt Pedersen is Partner and CEO of Sustainia. He holds academic degrees from Harvard University and University of Copenhagen and has been an agency executive for a decade. Since 2009 Sustainia has assisted business executives on all aspects of ESG, sustainable technology, and creative communications. Sustainia has analyzed thousands of sustainable solutions and are proud cofounders of the Global Opportunity Explorer with the United Nations Global Compact. Together with the Nordic Council of Ministers, Sustainia is also the initiator of the Arctic Opportunity Explorer that accelerates entrepreneurship in the Arctic in collaboration with regional universities and businesses. What are the biggest opportunities you see to continue building on the learnings and relationships from HelloScience collaborations? Innovation is perhaps the hardest discipline there is in business. Emulating others is easy but breaking new ground and creating new value takes a different mindset. It couples grit, determination and acumen with creativity and vision. The good news is that it is something you can learn, and in the right environment - like HelloScience - we’ve seen some take giant leaps forward.

What is a key insight you‘ve gained from collaborations with HelloScience? Using a collaboration platform with automated matchmaking of ideas and people holds such promise. The more dedicated academic and industry participants that join, the better the ideas, projects and innovations will come from it if there is a built-in mechanism for curating quality. There is strength in numbers, but it must be accompanied with people that know how to cultivate the activities and help matchmaking algorithms learn and be more precise. In a world of machines, we still need humans.

29

COLL ABOR ATOR: DAN S K ERHVERV Jasmina Pless is the Head of Entrepreneurship at Dansk Erhverv. We are one of the largest professional business organisations in Denmark, with more than 15,000 member companies. We are a private non-profit organisation with the goal of making Denmark the preferred place to run a business. We represent our members politically and help with legal and expert advice as well as facilitate a trusted environment for establishing valuable business connections. Strong partnerships are important when you want to develop a successful business. As a member of Dansk Erhverv (the Danish Chamber of Commerce), startups get the opportunity to participate in networking activities with other startups as well as industry leaders. The Danish Chamber of Commerce offer a one-year free membership for startups.

What are the biggest opportunities you see to continue building on the learnings and relationships from HelloScience collaborations? Collaboration between small and large companies is important to create new ground-breaking technologies, that can solve the challenges that we are facing now and in the future. Challenges such as climate change and global health threats cannot be solved by a single entity or company alone. It takes strong partnerships and collaboration.

30

What is a key insight you‘ve gained from collaborations with HelloScience? HelloScience created the foundation for a digital space, where individuals from different institutions can meet, inspire and collaborate. This unique framework can now be used as an inspiration for others and the partnerships created based on HelloScience will continue to flourish. The Danish Chamber of Commerce have had the pleasure of being introduced to many inspiring individuals and institutions due to HelloScience.

U N LEAS H UNLEASH is a non-profit founded in 2016 with the aim of developing solutions to the SDGs and building capacity for young people from around the world. UNLEASH offers four different programs: A Global Innovation Lab for the SDGs taking place every year and gathering 1,000 young people, UNLEASH Plus, a pre-accelerator program for teams who have participated in the Innovation Lab, A Storyteller Lab for emerging impact journalists, and UNLEASH Hacks, which are localized hackathons. What are the biggest opportunities you see to continue building on the learnings and relationships from HelloScience collaborations? As outlined by the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals can only be realized with strong global partnerships and cooperation. Our focus together with HelloScience is to channel all our efforts into innovation; since that is where we see we can make the greatest contributions to the full range of SDGs. Collaboration is a fundamental piece of the UNLEASH methodology, as the innovation process cannot exist without co-creation. Moving from in-person events to virtual gatherings, the human-centered design process had to be adapted to a new format. Now, after 3 years and several editions, we can say we have consolidated our online offerings with online Hackathons (UNLEASH Hacks) and a 6-months incubation program (UNLEASH Plus). Creating a collaborative environment online is very different from when doing so in real life spaces, so ensuring trust among participants has been the first priority when initiating the programs. Miro has been of great help on that journey, as it equips participants with a

blank canvas and a lot of tools to explore their creativity and brainstorm freely. What is a key insight you‘ve gained from collaborations with HelloScience? If there is something that becomes very clear when collaborating around the SDGs is that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. Giving young people the possibility to create meaningful and fruitful connections is part of UNLEASH’s mission, as we believe that by mobilizing people, we will catalyze impact. In that sense, we have also taken collaboration as a driving force in our own ability to contribute to the SDGs. There are many different opportunities to enhance the effort of other organisations, and we can equally benefit from their support. This ranges from simple mutual promotion, to sharing networks, providing resources to each other, and to deeper co-creation of programs and initiatives. The latter has been experienced, for example, in our collaboration with Chemonics International, whose team members have been absolutely critical in the conceptualisation, execution and continuous refinement of our incubator, UNLEASH Plus.

31
