Celebrating great ideas, sustainability and courage in a challenging year FOREWORD BY THOMAS VIDEBÆK EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, NOVOZYMES

6

In a year filled with transformation, the HelloScience annual report 2020 reflects the progress made the last 12 months, while also demonstrating how the ecosystem and platform has been able to respond to the challenges and opportunities of Covid-19. As we’ve all adapted our everyday life to new realities – from national lockdowns, to social distancing and working from home – we’ve also had to re-think the ways we work together and collaborate. It is in the very essence of HelloScience to respond to major global challenges by building strong partnerships and collaborations and catalyzing concrete solutions – all anchored in the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The impressive level of agility and responsiveness in the HelloScience ecosystem enabled and empowered startups, corporations and universities to demonstrate their resilience and ingenuity. Together with innovative startups, academia, business associations, local government, and private sector partners, Novozymes and HelloScience were able to forge new collaborations and catalyze urgent and successful responses to the unprecedented challenges of 2020. Launching a challenge to address the future of sustainable cleaning was just one of the actions that HelloScience was able to support in 2020. HelloScience also engaged in supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators in the arctic region, onboarded new friends in Latin America, established new partnerships in Asia, strengthened its digital platform and infrastructure, and celebrated and shared the successes of startups in the HelloScience ecosystem.

" Ultimately, the pandemic has proven that a collaborative approach to innovation and sustainability is also a resilient approach in times of crisis." In 2021, HelloScience will continue to drive commercial innovation, applied research, and social innovation through collaboration, incubation and partnerships, even amidst another year of “business as unusual”. We will build on the key learnings of 2020 – with a particular focus on how the enhanced use of digital platforms and interactions can support and strengthen opportunities for collaborative actions around the world. I look forward to following HelloScience’s transformational journey as it increases the engagement with innovators and stakeholders on its mission to empower sustainable businesses and societies.

JANUARY - MARCH 2020 INSPIRATION AND VISION

STRENGTHENING HELLOSCIENCE From November 2019 and the launch of an updated platform, HelloScience continued its successful growth and development, with projects, partnerships and opportunities in many exciting areas. In order to be able to maximize this potential, The Collaboratorium, a collective of like-minded creatives, visual storytellers, data and IT experts, worked with HelloScience stakeholders as it prepared to take on the day-to-day operations and management of HelloScience on behalf of Novozymes. Throughout the early months of 2020, our team worked diligently to set the stage for this exciting transition and new chapter of HelloScience. We worked to strengthen our collaborative relationships both within a range of Novozymes teams (Research & Technology, Regional Innovation, Scouting & Venturing and Sustainability) as well as with partners and stakeholders from across the innovation ecosystem both regionally and globally, including Climate KIC Nordic, Dansk Erhverv, Kromann Reumert and many others. Throughout this process and beyond, HelloScience has become a key example of how Novozymes has applied Innovation and the SDGs to both its business and purpose, and has also served as inspiration and an enabler for many others to also to the same. This is where HelloScience comes into its own: finding and creating better ways to work across complex partnerships in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

As spring emerged, we prepared to begin a new chapter of HelloScience – with a new collaboration between Novozymes and the Collaboratorium forming a strong foundation for the year ahead. We looked back on this announcement with perspectives from the HelloScience team and also explored the stories and successes of two exciting startups from across the HelloScience ecosystem: Nordetect and Jalodbust.

14

APRIL 2020 THE NEXT STAGE OF HELLOSCIENCE

BUILDING BETTER TOGETHER During the early part of the year, HelloScience was uncharacteristically quiet, but with good reasons. After the latest version of HelloScience launched in November 2019, we experienced significant growth in the number of projects and innovators wanting to engage with us, as well as stakeholders wishing to support and participate in our journey together. In response and after discussions with many of our stakeholders, we worked on how to best evolve HelloScience in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a sense of innovative collaboration vision. Specifically, we looked at how we could strengthen digital and physical interactions, sharpen the alignment of resources and competences, and find ways to create more synergies and connections. For Novozymes, the new arrangement that was reached with The Collaboratorium to take over day-to-day operations and management has enabled us to focus our continued commitment to HelloScience in line with our long-term purpose and strategy. I was delighted to be tasked with driving this new phase for Novozymes and despite all the challenges that the last year has presented, notably in relation to Covid-19, the journey to drive sustainable business invitation, to support communities and collaborators, continues onward. With best regards, Justin Perrettson Head of Sustainability Partnerships, Scouting & Ventures, Novozymes

“ I n the light of our global situation and current crises, it is clear how important digital collaboration tools are. To maximize the impact of HelloScience, it requires that HelloScience is rooted in a complementary collaboration across the right partners.” Torben Wind Serial Entrepreneur

17

“ In the post-corona era, digital collaboration between startups, corporates, organizations and universities becomes more important than ever. I believe it’s a natural evolution to position HelloScience in the surrounding world of complementary partners in this way. I’m proud and humbled to lead the way in a strong collaboration with Novozymes and with a talented Collaboratorium team.” Alfred Birkegaard Founder and Director of the Collaboratorium

18

To enable the HelloScience ecosystem to fully benefit from this potential, Novozymes transferred day-to-day management and operations for HelloScience to The Collaboratorium, a not for profit organization that focuses on enhancing digital and physical collaboration, including Public-PrivatePartnerships. The Collaboratorium, who initially created the Thirdroom software that is being used for HelloScience today, has already helped create the architecture for the platform. Seeking to empower the green transition and problem solving around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it has digital incubation competencies that help engage and co-develop projects. The Collaboratorium’s experience and skillsets can be applied to driving collaborative innovation forward, and Novozymes remains both engaged and involved as it seeks to enhance its own contributions alongside the other partners and collaborators within the HelloScience ecosystem. The new arrangement between the two organizations was designed to enable Novozymes to align its contributions and support for HelloScience more directly with its updated strategy and long-term targets, as well as more extensive interactions with its Research, Development and Technology competences. We are looking forward to a whole new era of open collaborative SDG innovation. Your HelloScience Team

A Collaborative Journey Nordetect has come a long way since its inception in 2016. The journey of bringing deep tech innovations to life and then to market is no easy task, and definitely not something that can be done alone. Right from the start, we have been lucky to have found mentors and advisors who could shed light on the way forward. But support is sometimes hard to find, especially when you work in an interdisciplinary domain that requires various specializations. This was evident as I talked with the team behind HelloScience. As discussions progressed, to our surprise, we found that the partners and supporters of Nordetect were co-incidentally partners and supporters of HelloScience as well. We’ve highlighted them on the next pages.

By Keenan Pinto Founder and CEO, Nordetect Bio-engineer turned inventor and now an entrepreneur in the bioscience and AgTech industry, Keenan loves condensing complex biological and technological concepts and making them more accessible and actionable for broad audiences. This is his story about how passionate people and open partnership innovation can lead to new radical collaborations and solutions.

2016

Community Bio and Novozymes Some of the first experiments that we conducted were at Labitat and Biologigaragen, a coworking lab based in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. There we had access to tools such as CNC machines, arduinos, 3D-Printers, etc. We also had access to basic wet-lab equipment such as a spectrophotometer, micropipettes, microscopes, incubators, etc. The Biologigaragen initiative was supported by Novozymes in 2012 through a grant and equipment. Interestingly, I recently found out that it was a part of Alfred Birkegaard‘s Ph.D ‘Collaboration – On the Edge of New Paradigm?’, which was done in conjunction with Novozymes.

It was at this Community Lab, that I met with Gernot J. Abel (Scientist, Novozymes) and Christian Brix Tillegreen (Bioinnovation Institute (BII), formerly Novozymes), supported by Ejner Bech Jensen (Vice President, R&D, Novozymes), all of whom were great connectors on the tech side and commercial side respectively. They also still advise us today as and whenever possible. Access to tools and equipment, as well as industry connections and mentorship allowed us to go from Idea to Prototype very quickly and then iterate.

Henning HolckLarsen Foundation Across the Himalayas in India, Nordetect’s founder Palak Sehgal was a researcher at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and had applied for a research exchange to Denmark. She was selected for a grant from Novozymes and Henning-Holck Larsen Foundation that sponsored exchanges of students between Denmark and India. This brought her to DTU in Denmark where she began working in the Bioengineering department. On the weekends, she would visit Biologigaragen and work on the chemistry and cartridge portion of Nordetect’s product. Her input allowed for a balanced development between the hardware / software and chemistry / cartridges.

2019 NORDIN

Nordetect has had a strong connection to India through our founding team, and helping to optimize Indian agriculture was one of the motivating factors behind Nordetect’s founding. However, the Indian landscape is hard to navigate, especially when attempting to do it from the outside. This was where the NORDIN program was a big help. We built connections with stakeholders over a sixmonth period through virtual meetings. It culminated with a trip to Bangalore and Mumbai where one of the companies that we met with was none other than Novozymes and their BioAg division. It was here where we got a better understanding of the synergies our product could have with Novozymes’ focus in Agriculture. 24

2019/20 Climate-KIC

As Nordetect progressed, the vision for a more sustainable way of farming became even more clear. The potential of Nordetect’s product to mitigate climate change by optimizing fertilizer consumption led the EIT Climate-KIC initiative to award a phase 1 grant from its Nordic Chapter. This allowed us to grow, conduct tests with users and refine our beachhead segment. After a year of hard work towards our milestones, Nordetect was awarded the Phase 2 grant from Climate KIC in Q1 2020. Nordetect granted the EIT Climate KIC grant along with 10 other climate impact startups

2020

Back at Novozymes with HelloScience Which brings us to 2020, where we were back at Novozymes and proud to present our product and explore how we could collaborate on a new level. From Agricultural microbials, to wastewater treatment, to animal feed, there are multiple paths forward. With the support from HelloScience and the team at Novozymes, we’re confident that the collaborative spirit could lead to something great. The best part is, you can follow the journey on our HelloScience timeline.

" HelloScience was the first to help Jalodbust back in February 2019, where I participated at the SDG LiveLab Bangalore. After being awarded a HelloScience proof of concept microgrant and receiving mentoring and incubation support, this then snowballed into us gathering recognition from more Governmental and non-Governmental organizations so that we could do pilots, reach out to sanitation workers and partners, and move to the next product design stages. Without support, no invention can make a real difference. We believe HelloScience’s philosophy of idea identification, support for up and coming social innovations and professional maturity has helped make a difference in a really big way." PERSPECTIVES AND PARTNERSHIPS 30

MAY 2020 POSITIVE TURNING POINT FOR INNOVATION In May, we planted the seeds of new collaborations in Denmark and built digital bridges across borders. We invited Jasmina Pless, from the Danish Chamber of Commerce, to share her perspectives on innovation in times of crisis. That conversation laid the foundation for an exciting collaboration with the Danish Chamber of Commerce later in the year. Elsewhere, through a collaboration with Ana Soriano Albert – we began a new friendship with TEC Monterrey, Mexico, one of the leading research universities in Latin America. Ana shared her perspectives on learning and education, building links between universities and industry, and was instrumental in helping HelloScience support a focus group of TEC Monterrey students and collaborators. 31

The Green Transition in Times of Corona THOUGHT LEADERSHIP WITH JASMINA PLESS

32

We asked Jasmina Pless for her thoughts on how a crisis can be a positive turning point for innovation, and how her work with entrepreneurs at the Danish Chamber of Commerce is helping create the best conditions for new green startups. HelloScience began exploring potential collaborations with the Danish Chamber of Commerce in 2020.

33

Dear HelloScience Collaborators and Friends, I was delighted to be asked by HelloScience to share my thoughts on why 2020 is the perfect time for green entrepreneurship and collaboration. Like the 2008 financial crisis, the corona crisis has been devastating to many companies and individuals, but times of crisis are also an opportunity to rewire. “The great pause” – as some people have referred to the lockdown we have experienced – has given us time to reflect on what we want post-corona society to look like.

I have given myself the task of ensuring that green startups in Denmark have the world’s best framework conditions to grow. I have recently made an analysis of green startups in Denmark, which shows that in order to help green startups grow we need better access to finance, talent, public data, research and better opportunities for partnering with the public sector. These are now political agendas that the Danish Chamber of Commerce is pushing forward to the government.

“ Through my daily work, I meet many entrepreneurs with extraordinary business ideas that can reduce CO2emissions and drive sustainable development. I have given myself the task of ensuring that green startups in Denmark have the world‘s best framework conditions to grow.” On many levels, a green transformation across economies is something that many people have been wanting for years. But at the same time, not everyone has had faith in our capabilities to go through such a large change in our society. The crisis has shown us that we are capable of adapting, and we are capable of transforming society way faster than we could have ever imagined. This is why I believe that we should seize this crisis as an opportunity to create new green startups that within the next ten years will grow and create – not only profit – but also a more sustainable world. Through my daily work, I meet many entrepreneurs with extraordinary business ideas that can help reduce CO2-emissions and drive sustainable development.

34

As Head of Entrepreneurship at The Chamber of Commerce, I was given the role as secretary for the 14th Climate Partnership for Green Entrepreneurship. This group was established by the Danish politician and former entrepreneur, Tommy Ahlers, with Mette Lykke, the CEO of Too Good To Go, as Chair and had some 12 green entrepreneurs and experts, including Søren Riis, co-founder of GoMore and board member of the Collaboratorium. The panel delivered a set of policy recommendations that will show that startups can play an important role in creating new green solutions for the world, if we can create a good environment for green startups to grow and better framework conditions for green entrepreneurship in Denmark.

But creating a good environment for green startups to grow is not just a matter of politics. It is a matter of collaboration between politics, businesses, research institutions and civil society. This is why I am proud that The Chamber of Commerce has now begun exploring ways in which we can collaborate with HelloScience.

ANALYSE

Danmark som grønt iværksætterland

The Danish Chamber of Commerce sees HelloScience as a unique tool that enables startups to broadcast their projects and connect with new partners and mentors. I believe the platform has great potential for startups to attract funding in a new way, since it gives startups the opportunity to display their journey stepby-step, which is validated by linking the steps of the journey to renowned partners, such as larger corporations, government institutions and other investors. Another crucial potential for the platform – that I hope we can develop even further – is to create a space where research from universities and companies can be shared and create value in new partnerships or as inspiration for others. It is important that we continue to respect the unique openness of the platform, which is aligned with our Nordic values of knowledge sharing and collaboration. I am looking forward to a very bright future together.

Q&A WITH ANA SORIANO ALBERT

Hola Science – Connecting to the World

Q&A WITH ANA SORIANO ALBERT

Ana first visited HelloScience at Novozymes, coming across the road from the Danish Technical University (DTU), from where she runs a satellite office supporting the International Affairs activities of the Mexican University Tecnológico de Monterrey. Since then HelloScience has had the pleasure to meet with Ana again several times, and to learn more about TEC de Monterrey, and discuss potential opportunities to work together. What follows is a Q&A with Ana, from the spring of 2020, introducing TEC de Monterrey and her reflections on sharing diverse knowledge and collaborations around the HelloScience platform.

Ana Soriano Albert is Director Nordic Region Delegation and Vice Rectory for International Affairs at TEC Monterrey

HS: The HelloScience team is really excited about connecting to a university in Mexico and expanding our international cooperation. Ana, can you tell us what TEC de Monterrey is and why you have satellite office at the Technical University of Denmark? AS: It is a comprehensive University, the core of which is made up of students from the Schools of Engineering and Science together with the School of Business. We have in total 6 schools, including Medicine and Health Science, Humanities and Education, Social Governmental Studies, and Architecture, Art and Design. TEC’s visions embraces “Leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship for human flourishing” continuing with a strong commitment for human sensibilities. and social responsibility. Why Denmark? Why the Nordic Countries? From companies, to universities, governments, are all recognized as leaders in topics such as sustainability and innovation. DTU is one of the top-elite universities in Europe in Engineering and a key actor in the Region. TEC and DTU have more than 10 years of joint relations, and it was a perfect time to take this to a next level establishing an international liaison office to strengthen our cooperation. Building bridges with our partners, and sharing ideas and experiences, will bring everyone a better future. Our Next Generation of decision makers in Mexico are now able to have real life experience with this Nordic wave, with their time hopefully filled with learning across innovation, equality and sustainability to name some areas. Experiencing 5 to 10 months of a Nordic Life and mindset can make a big impact for our student’s future. 37

Q&A WITH ANA SORIANO ALBERT

HS: Digital platforms have not only become a necessity but have enabled people and knowledge to connect during COVID-19. The virtual realm has entered a new era where knowledge and solutions can be communicated across borders and between cultures. hy is HelloScience interesting for you and how do you think a digital W platform can help connect university students/researchers to companies and vice versa? AS: H elloScience is a community of diverse people from different areas that work together, so people, companies and organisations can share their knowledge. As I mentioned, my job is to link people and HelloScience is a perfect community to expand and find new partners and also get inspired. And HelloScience is also a digital platform where people can match, share, discuss, collaborate, learn, dream together and make it real. The platform is designed in an organic way, very friendly, and makes you feel close and part of this community, even over long distance, and this what our students want and need. I can see the type of actions HelloScience has already done fit perfectly into our learning environment and our model of education. I believe the platform and its stakeholders has a potential to impact SDG 6 and many other areas of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Mexico. Since Mexico is a huge country and we need to save scarce resources, the way we use our time and exchange knowledge efficiently over large distances is a must. HS: Global challenges increase in complexity and the need for solutions to them is urgent – but they need to be sustainable. Radical ideas, collaboration and sustainable innovation have become the task for the 21st century. What work and methods do you think are most important in these times to bring sustainable solutions to real world challenges? And how do you see HelloScience can be part of that? AS: I n my opinion, first we need to understand that education has changed dramatically, and students are not learning in the same way as they did 20 or even 10 years ago: And from an environmental perspective, you could almost say we are not living on the same planet. Teachers have to reconsider the use of technology and at the same time, keep the basics of one to one learning, and engage emotionally to nurture university virtues and human values among the students to secure a deep understanding of, and relation to, real world challenges. We expect our students to be highly motivated, working in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, considering how to best use technology or innovation. However, at the same time, we need to come back to the roots of humanity: simplicity, feelings and emotions, gender, art, inclusion,

38

Q&A WITH ANA SORIANO ALBERT

sustainability. By innovating how teaching and learning is done and adding these elements into studies, results showed better performance and achievements, and that is why exchange between cultures is so important. HelloScience shows us successful examples of public-private collaboration, the key to bring sustainable solutions in the long run to the market, as well as integrating entrepreneurs both inside or outside universities. In this way, HelloScience can be an amazing way to connect diverse people, from different continents, together and share solutions with a focus on the SDGs, in Mexico or worldwide. “Disruptive” Universities that challenge the status quo by combining academic and social elements with technology, innovation and business thinking have a role to play – and have never been more important when achieving the SDGs. With those aims in mind, entrepreneurship plays a key role and this another area where HelloScience can help.

The Femsa Biotechnology Center, TEC de Monterrey, Mexico Tec has more than 90,000 students, from high school to Ph.D. level, with 26 campuses in 25 cities, and more than 9,000 Faculty members. Visit TEC de Monterrey’s website here

Q&A WITH ANA SORIANO ALBERT

HS: It’s inspiring to see how you have engaged your community already with HelloScience, by organizing a focus group of highly skilled university students to give initial feedback on how we could improve the HelloScience website. What benefits do you see when people with different professional backgrounds and resources get together to collaborate on a common project? AS: I found it very important to give students a central role in this focus group. They have a lot to say and they are highly motivated. I worked together with Adriana Carranza (Leader of Career and Life Center at campus Monterrey) and with Laura Romero (Director of Nanotechnology Bachelor) both at campus Monterrey, as well as the students who are currently on exchange at DTU. I knew Adriana and Laura would help me to find brilliant students for the focus group, some of them already with their own startups. I have this feeling of giving before asking or getting something, so to me, it was really important to make a special contribution to HelloScience as I know that you are trying to improve the platform user experience. This also gave you a taste of just how talented our students are! At the end of the day, both HelloScience and TEC de Monterrey share the same mission and if we want to construct and develop a relationship, we need to start with small but strong actions such as this one. Having feedback from Mexican users (students, professors, staff) is very different from European or Asian partners, so contributing with the focus group has a unique value. I invited my colleague Lumi Velázquez, from the School of Humanities and Education, who is a professor and the leader of the Plan for Gender Equality but also running a very solid initiatives as Womentoring Equality and Zona Shero attached to the Institute of Entrepreneurship Eugenio Garza Lagüera. She could add the gender aspect as an expert in the focus group. Mónica Caballero who is the national coordinator of the Institute of Entrepreneurship is one of the key people when it comes to connect and link people within the entrepreneurial ecosystem at TEC and Mexico. I was completely sure I could contribute by finding engaged people to join this focus group from different backgrounds, disciplines and at the same time with common goals and interest in technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, social impact. Again, this is a way to get to know each other and a process of building bridges in a different way. I also learnt a lot from Adriana and Jeppe Nielsen, HelloScience’s Platform Manager and I enjoyed the focus group a lot so I must thank you.

FEEDBACK FROM TEC MONTERREY

In collaboration with the University Tecnológico de Monterrey, HelloScience organized a focus group of highly skilled students to review and improve the HelloScience platform. We are very grateful for the feedback and look forward to integrating more features soon.

„ I like the overall website, it’s clean and easy going. I’d just suggest to make it easier for the user to understand how the workflow of HelloScience goes from the beginning, maybe without the need to go to the about section.“ Abril Diosdado Nanotech Student, TEC de Monterrey

„ In the “Request an Invite” section, I recommend that you clarify the requirements to request it, because maybe there are none or they are too specific, and I as a user don’t know them and that could frighten me and keep me from requesting it.“ Carolina Orozco Biotechnology Student, TEC de Monterrey

JUNE 2020 INSPIRING FUTURE INNOVATION THROUGH MOONSHOT TECHNOLOGIES

DREAMING BIG As we moved into summer, we turned our eyes toward the sky – thinking about how we could support the HelloScience community to develop breakthrough innovations for a more sustainable world. HelloScience partner Kromann Reumert shared their thoughts on how they’re working to provide entrepreneurs with the legal support they need to grow and innovate around the SDGs. Entrepreneur Søren Riis provided his perspectives on the future of climate innovation in Denmark and building moonshot technologies to solve major global challenges.

Dear HelloScience Community, I’m Julia, HelloScience’s artist and designer in residence. In a world of rapid pace and change, I believe that art is a medium that can slow us down: helping us absorb, and communicating something between people that‘s impossible to express in words. I’ve always been fascinated by the connection between art and collaboration, taking the time to express myself in this space and highlighting the passion of others for the same. After going on a road trip to explore the Californian wilderness back in 2018 and seeing the endangered beauty of nature up close, I knew I wanted my art to contribute to sustainable development. Call it coincidence or destiny – but on my flight back to Germany I met Alfred Birkegaard on the plane. His passion for collaboration and HelloScience was infectious and sparked my curiosity. Fast forward to June 2020, and I decided to pack up my bags to move to Copenhagen to work even more closely with HelloScience and a team of dedicated and like-minded people, that share a common vision – creating real impact together. I’m excited for what‘s yet to come. We‘re in this together. Julia

Q&A WITH ANNE CATHRINE DAHLGAARD HANSEN

Next level collaboration with Kromann Reumert HelloScience has had the pleasure to work with Anne Cathrine Dahlgaard Hansen, Assistant Attorney at Kromann Reumert, several times since 2019. Throughout 2020, she worked to take our collaborative relationship to the next level. What follows is a Q&A with Anne Cathrine from the year, and on the future collaborations she envisioned between Kromann Reumert and the Collaboratorium.

Anne Cathrine Dahlgaard Hansen and Heela Lakanval, both working for Denmark’s leading law firm Kromann Reumert

Q&A WITH ANNE CATHRINE DAHLGAARD HANSEN

HS: What characterizes Kromann Reumert as a law company? AC: I would characterise Kromann Reumert as a firm with strong core values and high ethical standards. Kromann Reumert is an ambitious workplace where collaboration and new ideas are applauded. We live by the mantra of setting the standard – together! HS: What motivates you most collaborating with open innovation and HelloScience? AC: Open innovation fits perfectly with Kromann Reumert – Knowledge sharing is our way of carrying on business; we live by our knowledge and we find knowledge-sharing with clients, partners, and society in general really important. Personally, I look forward to meeting many more of the interesting people that are involved in HelloScience in order to learn further of their views, ideas and challenges – and hopefully providing some (legal) solutions to these challenges. Seeing others succeed and knowing that you made a difference at some stage of the process is a great motivation for me. HS: HelloScience is in the process of extending its collaborative agreement with Kromann Reumert. What is this about and what can the community expect? AC: Green transition requires collaboration. We partnered with HelloScience to contribute to a better and more sustainable world by focusing on green and sustainable solutions. The community can expect workshops focusing on important legal issues to be taken into consideration when pursuing a great idea and starting a business. Also, we expect to support entrepreneurs and start-ups with specific legal advice. Kromann Reumert’s legal advice aims to be practical, relevant and individually tailored to meet the specific needs of each client. It is our hope that many more start-ups will benefit from an early and to-the-point approach in order to observe their obligations and secure their rights. HS: How do you visualize the future of Kromann Reumert with HelloScience? AC: We will focus on what we do best and that is to provide legal insights and advice. I do foresee that HelloScience will grow bigger and include many more dedicated partners with a strong interest and commitment to changes toward a more sustainable society. We are well on our way if everybody – companies as well as individuals – provide just a little bit of their knowledge and time. That is the essence of HelloScience – an ecosystem of sharing!

Q&A WITH SØREN RIIS

The 14th Climate Partnership Launch HelloScience invited Søren to this Q&A session just after the 14th Climate Partnership launched its report with a number of recommendations to make Denmark a leading green entrepreneurial country. 50

Søren Riis is a Dr Phil. and integrates the philosophy of technology with Science and Technology Studies (STS). He’s also the co-founder of the Danish startup company, gomore.dk and founder of urbanawinebox.com. Søren was a member of the 14th Climate Partnership, an initiative led by Danish politician and former Danish Minister for Education and Research Tommy Ahlers, supported by The Danish Chamber of Commerce.

HS: Søren, tell us a bit about yourself: Who are you and what you stand for? SR: I’m a concerned citizen, an engaged individual and a philosopher of passion profession. Q&A WITH SØREN RIIS

HS: How can HelloScience play a part? SR: I very much hope that HelloScience can and will play a crucial part in this green community by connecting smart and engaged mentors of established companies with students and startups working on very concrete projects. It is my impression that this kind of collaboration and knowledge sharing across institutions and generations can prove to be very powerful. Many corporate employees miss the excitement and innovative power of startups and they often have a lot to offer. On the other hand, there is also great value for startups in having access to the deep, in-depth experience and established networks which Corporate mentors can bring to the table. HS: Why is it important to celebrate Moonshot technologies? SR: A moonshot technology literally often makes us look at the world, a problem, and ourselves in a different and very inspiring way. This makes “Moonshot” technologies very rewarding. In a broader sense, however, going to the moon and “Moonshots” are about “reaching for the stars”, developing technologies that are out of this world, and making grand collaborative projects work.

Q&A WITH SØREN RIIS

HS: Søren, tell us about your ultimate Moonshot. SR: It is often good to gain some “altitude” in order to be able to look a bit beyond the current state of affairs. The history of technology is full of examples of dreamers and people breaking the status quo. When Matias Møl Dalsgaard and I first created GoMore, very few people thought that people would be willing to share cars and rides on a big scale – let alone with people they had never even met before. And this was just a bit more than 10 years ago, and today GoMore has more than 2 Million members in three countries. Based on that experience, over the last couple of years I have been thinking about what I like to call the “ultimate green transportation technology”. In short, the technology I am dreaming about is a combination of an airship and a solar farm: An airship does not use any energy to float in the air – and if this classic (almost disappeared) technology is combined with cutting-edge solar panels to propel the structure, then we have a fantastic green self-generating mode of transport. State of the art solar panels weigh very little and make enough energy to enable an airship to travel as fast as a train – but as opposed to trains it needs very little infrastructure and travels on “starlight”. I do not see any reason why such airships could and should not be developed on a big scale. With this mode of transport, everybody could travel with a clean conscience, get a new perspective on travelling and see the earth floating by. If anybody reading this also thinks it would be interesting supporting and experimenting with this “moonshot” technology, please contact me at soren@gomore.com; I am already in touch with some engineering students at DTU Skylab, who want to help take the first steps.

JULY 2020 NEW TECH FEATURES FOR HELLOSCIENCE.IO

54

As the summer holidays hit, we took advantage of the quieter weeks to work with our programmer Jens, to make some functional updates to the HelloScience website and develop new features. July was also a big month for the Sustainable Development Goals at the UN, and the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) for the SDGs, with the UN looking at how we can “Build Back Better” after the Coronavirus pandemic. We also heard from our friends at Business Fights Poverty, and Co-Founder and CEO Zahid Torres-Rahman, who shared his perspectives and key learnings regarding radical collaborative innovation in the face of COVID-19. 55

Q&A WITH JENS AHRENGOT BODDUM

Q&A WITH JENS AHRENGOT BODDUM

New HelloScience Features In the following Q&A, our resident coder Jens gave us some insights about what he’s has developed for us, what he likes about working with HelloScience and what the community could expect after the summer holidays.

HS: J ens, tell us a bit about yourself. Who are you? JA: I’m a software developer with over a decade of experience and have worked on a range of projects around the world, ranging from angelfunded startups to Fortune 500 companies. For the past 3 years I’ve been working on the 1,731,393 lines of code that keep helloscience.io running. When I’m not coding for a living, I’m often coding for fun on various side projects; otherwise you’ll often find me fixing up my old Alfa Romeo or grilling something on the barbecue.

57

Q&A WITH JENS AHRENGOT BODDUM

HS: What are you working on and what can the community expect when we come back from the summer holiday? JA: Right now we’re working on three parallel tracks on the helloscience.io platform. Track 1 is a new brand-new feature on the front page. We’re calling it the Community Board, and you can think of it much like your personal feed on LinkedIn, except this isn’t limited to people you follow. This is a place where everyone can post their latest activities and achievements, ask for help and guidance or simply just read along to follow the success stories of others in our vibrant and growing community. The Community Board will allow you to reach out to everyone on the platform with a single post. All the features you know from our comments and collaboration spaces will be there, including user tagging, rich embeds for videos, presentations, cases and much more. We’re excited about this feature and think it will bring everyone much closer together and are hoping to launch it shortly after the summer break. Track 2 is a complete Messaging System. The value in our platform comes from our users and in particular from lowering barriers to communication as much as possible. The messaging system will be our first step at improving this area. It’s something we’ve been working on for quite a while now, but it is a large feature with many milestones still ahead of us. With the messaging system, we’re also doing a complete reimplementation of our notification system, to make it more useful and allow you to pick exactly which updates are the most important and relevant for you. Track 3 is ongoing Improvements and Maintenance of the software behind the platform. We’re constantly looking at how we can make the User Interface (UI) easier to use, keeping load times to a minimum, reducing technical issues and keeping the servers up to date – and generally just making this a nicer site to visit. So, in short, we have lots of things cooking at the moment and we’re very happy to have you all onboard for this journey. You’re all helping us to uniquely position HelloScience in the space between entrepreneurship, sustainability and community involvement – and we want to make this happen for you – Thank you! HS: Why do you think it is interesting working with HelloScience? JA: It’s all in the community. I think we have some fantastic actors here and if we can pull off our job of providing the right platform, together, we can help support an immensely positive societal impact.

58

The Community Board was completed in July 2020 and we have continued to improve and update since that launch

On the ‘Community Feedback’ timeline you can share your ideas and feedback. Look into the crystal ball of the HelloScience platform development, and shape the future of the new features by leaving a comment. 59

Q&A WITH ZAHID TORRES-RAHMAN

Radical collaborative innovation in the face of COVID-19

Zahid Torres-Rahman Co-Founder and CEO, Business Fights Poverty

Business Fights Poverty has taken an active lead in promoting radical collaborative innovation in the face of COVID-19. In the following Q&A, Zahid shared his key learnings and perspectives on curating purposeful collaboration and got us thinking about what’s next. 60

HS: Zahid, tell us a bit about yourself: Who are you and what you stand for? ZT: I have over 20 years’ experience in business and international development and am passionate about helping businesses collaborate with others to scale their social impact. HS: So, how did you end up getting involved with COVID-19 responses? ZT: It was just before 6 o’clock on 11 March, and I was on my last call of the day when news broke that the WHO Director-General had declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. Sometimes life-changing moments are only recognizable as such in retrospect, but sometimes – like this one – you recognize their significance in the very moment. It just so happened that my call was with Myriam Sidibé, world-renowned handwashing expert, and Catalina Garcia Gomez, Global Director of Corporate Affairs at AB InBev. For those of you who have met either of these inspiring women, you won’t be surprised to learn that within about five minutes, we had agreed to launch a Business and COVID-19 Response. Add in three more driven women – Jane Nelson, Director at the Harvard Kennedy School Corporate Responsibility Initiative; Liz Patterson, Head of Responsible and Inclusive Business at the UK Department for International Development; and Yvette Torres- Rahman, my wife and Business Fights Poverty Co-Founder – and within a matter of days we had pivoted our organization to focus exclusively on guiding companies’ immediate and longer-term decision making to support the most vulnerable in the face of COVID-19. For me personally, it felt like our 15 years’ of curating purposeful collaboration had all been a practice for this one moment. To their immense credit, our entire team leant into the challenge – working at a pace that none of us had worked at before.

61

Q&A WITH ZAHID TORRES-RAHMAN

HS: Business Fights Poverty took an active lead in promoting radical collaborative innovation in the face of COVID-19. What were the key learnings during the initial stages? ZT: It helped that from the start, Business Fights Poverty has operated a fully-flexible, dispersed workforce model, and a large part of our experience has been in driving online collaboration. We compressed our Challenge-based social problem-solving approach – which normally takes 6 to 9 months – into a 10-day cycle and, through 18 events in the following 9 weeks, we brought together over 14,000 people across our amazing community and co-created 50 outputs to guide and inspire business action, in partnership with Jane Nelson and funded by UK aid from the UK Government, along with a number of our corporate partners.

You can find all of these materials in our Business and COVID-19 Response Centre, and I invite you to share them widely. These include our original Response Framework, published in March, and our followup, Rebuild Better Framework, which looks towards how businesses can support efforts to create a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient future. We also produced seven Action Toolkits that focus on specific topics: tackling gender-based violence, supporting vulnerable workers, helping micro and small businesses, promoting handwashing and other preventative measures, creating national collaboration platforms, driving rapid innovation through collaboration, and supporting NGO partners. While we were busy distilling actionable insights for decision-makers at the global level, Myriam and her team were accelerating massive action on the ground in Kenya through the National Business Compact on Coronavirus, and you can read more about her experience and reflections in her Action Toolkit (also available in the Response Centre).

62

Q&A WITH ZAHID TORRES-RAHMAN

This experience was a true team effort, and I am grateful to all those who played a part: our lead authors, the close to 30 other people who stepped into our core team, the many experts and practitioners who shared their insights through our events, and the various companies and content partners who came forward to support this collective effort. More broadly, I was greatly moved by the many people across our community who sprang into action, mobilizing their businesses, NGOs, or government departments, and collaborating in new ways – even with traditional competitors – to make an urgent difference. Over 30 of our fellow business networks also been coordinated and collaborated with us behind the scenes. Most inspiring was been the fact that this was all done despite unprecedented personal and professional stress. We have all been impacted, and we have all been moved by those on the frontline who have been keeping us safe. We took the early, but difficult, decision to cancel our flagship Washington event, due to take place in April, and since cancelled all of our large in-person events in 2020. Iain Forrest, a medical student and cellist from New York, was due to open our DC event. Instead, we asked him to perform for a video that we dedicated to all front line workers. The result is a performance that moves me to tears every time I watch it!

Watch the Video of Iain Forrest: “Someone You Loved”

In terms of some key learnings, I would summarize them as follows: • Be flexible • Utilize existing models • Partner with the experts • Active decision-making • Keep sharing

Q&A WITH ZAHID TORRES-RAHMAN

HS: Looking back, from your vantage point in mid-2020, what did you foresee at the next stage for business and society in the battle against COVID-19? ZT: This was only the start. The pandemic was far from over – and in mid - late 2020, was only just peaking in many countries with weak health systems and social safety nets. With the pandemic likely to come back in force in many countries throughout the rest of 2020 and into 2021, and with the most vulnerable facing the greatest risks, it was clear that we would continue dealing with a complex mix of emergency response, recovery and rebuilding for a long time to come. Importantly, we as a community have the opportunity and, I believe, the responsibility, to act now to build a better future. Let’s face it; the pandemic has exacerbated deep inequalities and fragilities in the current system that have always been there. Actions we tool in mid 2020 and beyond will have long-term consequences for those who have been most impacted, the very people whom all of us in this community have dedicated our careers to supporting. HS: As the world looks to “rebuild better“, what key issues do companies and stakeholders need to consider? And what is the role of partnerships in addressing these? ZT: These questions are at the heart of a series of discussions we launched across our community and beyond – to understand what “better” means at a society level, business level and an individual level. This includes Business Fights Poverty Online 2020 where over 1,000 people from across the globe joined together for a week of conversation, connection and collaboration. Important questions we continue to work on that will also help businesses to rebuild better include: • How can we embed purpose into business? • How can companies and others best work together to support MSMEs and vulnerable workers? • What are the opportunities for re-skilling and up-skilling? • What can be done to ensure equity in our workplaces? • How can we collaborate to accelerate and deepen positive impact? The resounding learning so far: People want to lean in, to “rebuild better” and are willing to roll up their sleeves in order to do so, but as an African proverb says: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” And we will be looking to work more closely with the HelloScience community throughout the rest of 2020 and beyond, and would love for you to be a part of this work going forward. If you would like to know more, join the community or get involved, please do join us here: https://businessfightspoverty.org 64

Anuj Dhariwal & Mario Augusto Maia from HelloScience both were guest speakers at the Business Fights Poverty Online event (13-17 July, 2020), which was part of the High-Level Political Forum (HLFP). The HLPF annual meeting is the core United Nations platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

“ Looking at it from an investor’s perspective, it would be highly relevant to see corporates with complete understanding, commitment and disclosure related to ‘social impact and risks through the value chains’ where they operate. This has always been appreciated but Covid-19 has certainly made the need for change even more pronounced with supply chain breakdowns leading to different social implications across these supply chains. Ultimately, corporates should examine every part of their businesses, activities, relationships and supply chain using a social impact lens.“ Mario Augusto Maia Head of Investments, Novozymes

AUGUST 2020 SUPPORTING SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS INNOVATION

MOVING FORWARD WITH COLLABORATIVE ACTION

August was a month of exciting updates – from new partnerships to platform updates. In collaboration with Nilfisk, Novozymes and HelloScience announced the Future of Clean challenge – a platform for exploring the future of sustainable cleaning through collaborations between startups, researchers and partners. We heard from Novozymes‘ Dr. Anuj Dhariwal on his vision for the Future of Clean challenge.

We also announced an exciting collaboration between Novozymes and NORDIN, a partnership that is strengthening the connection between the SME communities in Denmark and India. NORDIN began work with Novozymes and committed to leveraging HelloScience to accelerate and support selected startups. And last but not least, we also rolled out a Beta version of our new Community Board for testing.

Q&A WITH ANUJ DHARIWAL

On the HelloScience “Future of Clean” Challenge Launch In the light of COVID-19, cleaning and disinfecting have never been more important. Nilfisk and Novozymes joined forces around HelloScience to explore sustainable cleaning with startups, researchers and students. What follows is an interview from August with Dr. Anuj Dhariwal, the then Global Head of Scouting & Venturing at Novozymes.

HS: What excites you most about the Open Challenge with Nilfisk? AD: O ne thing that has stood out from the very first conversations with Nilfisk about collaborating has been this amazing openness and willingness to try something different and new. Both organizations share a passion for technology and innovation on the one hand and sustainability on the other, although they traditionally operate in quite different fields. And its been great to start building a shared vision of what might be possible, and although like any pioneering activity you are never fully sure of the final outcome when you start, I’m very confident that over time and by progressing together and with the HelloScience ecosystem, we will achieve some tangible results. HS: The world has changed due to COVID-19. How has Novozymes and HelloScience responded to this? AD: F irstly Novozymes as an organization focused

short term on ensuring that our commitment to our employees, our customers, and the communities where we operate was stronger than ever. In addition to safeguarding the health of our employees and ensuring steady supply our products, we have also contributed to a series of projects and initiatives around the world to support for example: education for disadvantaged students, to providing medical supplies and funding for hospitals. Read more here But for Novozymes and HelloScience in particular, we recognized very early on that Covid-19 was going to present a number of short, medium and longer challenges. And the best way to take on a challenge is through creating opportunity. And by understanding how cleaning can be more sustainable and innovative, working with great companies like Nilfisk, enables us to all consider how new solutions can support a healthy environment, as well as seek to find and champion new ways of potentially combining existing ones.

69

Q&A WITH ANUJ DHARIWAL

HS: For the Open Challenge, what will success look like for you? AD: HelloScience has always had the intention to cover as many different Sustainability issues and SDGs as possible. And with Sustainable Cleaning and as Covid-19 has also shown us, there is so much to learn about the world, and how we

need to – and can – respond and adapt. I would break success down into several areas: Firstly, if we can source and support some fantastic new ideas and new companies working in this space and help them grow, and second, that we raise the profile of what Sustainable Cleaning and health can do in terms of positive benefits and start a real conversation about that.

Q&A WITH PETER JOHANSEN

New Partnership with Nordin We were excited to announce that NORDIN, a partnership that is strengthening the connection between the SME communities in Denmark and India would work with Novozymes and leverage HelloScience to accelerate and support selected startups. Julia from the HelloScience team sat down with Peter Johansen from NORDIN for a face to face interview, to get the inside track on what these activities hoped to achieve.

HS: Hi Peter, we are beginning to work together through HelloScience. What’s the thinking behind this? PJ: T he idea behind starting to collaborate was to mutually help each other to create a platform for Danish startups and SMEs to access the Indian market with great solutions for the green transformation, which is so necessary for India. We want to help companies go to India in order to make a great commercial impact – and drive sustainable development at the same time. HS: Can you tell us a bit about NORDIN and how you are helping companies? PJ: N ORDIN is a market access and innovation program for Danish SMEs and startups. It’s a project collaboration between 4 Danish organizations: Asia House Denmark, DI India, the Green Innovation Group and the Innovation Center Denmark in Bangalore and funded by the Danish Industry Foundation. It‘s been difficult for the smaller Danish

72

companies to access India for several reasons and we try to address these issues on a very operational level, basically by supporting the companies throughout a process – from initial program selection of the companies we believe have the strongest competence for the Indian market, all the way through to meeting the end customer and helping them negotiate a deal. HS: What is NORDIN hoping to get out of the collaboration with HelloScience? PJ: N ORDIN and HelloScience have some very complementary strengths. NORDIN is a market accelerator, it is very operational and it has strong methodology for providing access to the Indian market. We have people on ground in India, who know the country very well and we have people in Denmark, who can find the right companies. We’ve done this before and we know how to help companies go to India and basically nail down deals. But perhaps where we lack and where HelloScience can help us is on three levels:

Peter Johansen from NORDIN and Dr. Anuj Dhariwal from Novozymes signing the agreement for a new collaborative journey with HelloScience

First, by having a visually attractive and inspiring platform with some great communication strengths and the ability to assimilate information and creating content about what we do for a wider audience. I think this is important, because the outside world needs to know what we do, and we need to create awareness and interest in how and why we do it. Secondly, HelloScience is a very interesting ecosystem with a diverse set of stakeholders. There are big pan-national organizations like Climate-KIC, there are Corporates like Novozymes, Grundfos and Legal Firms like Kromann Reumert. There’s also access to the startup community in the Nordics and there is access to some Indian stakeholders as well. HelloScience’s larger network also means that we can enhance the likely success rate and support for our companies by finding new partners.

ment, as well as the development of business models. The whole idea behind this collaboration is so important: its focused, its outcome driven and it’s all about seeing how we can help each other. I also think that HelloScience can benefit from the strong machine that we have in NORDIN in identifying companies and helping them to market and all those many different steps that it takes in order to get there. It’s exciting to get started with this pilot initiative over the next few months as by doing things, we can gather experience and results that can hopefully be applied to bigger and even better things later on. SEPTEMBER 2020 SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATION IN THE GLOBAL SPOTLIGHT

PUTTING PURPOSE INTO PARTNERSHIPS In September, the global Sustainability universe came together and met with policymakers, NGOs and financiers at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and the SDG “Global Goals Week”. HelloScience contributed, not just through words, but through actions – we shared our stories, whilst also working on new initiatives that we hope would drive us towards the Sustainable future we all want. If we learned one thing from all the discussions, it was about the relevance and power of purposeful partnerships. . In a month focused on partnership, the insightful words of Ester Baiget, President and CEO of Novozymes summed up the vibe: “ As an innovative company, we believe in the power of collaboration and diversity – we know that when that’s done well, 1+1 equals 3. Together with our partners and collaborators, we have created a growing ecosystem of businesses, startups and entrepreneurs, universities, finance and legal expertise. With 2020, the start of the decade of action and delivery for the SDGs, HelloScience will be a fantastic contributor to our Sustainability Journey.” That month we also highlighted new partnerships with Nilfisk and Sustainia – and heard their perspectives on collaboration and innovating to achieve the SDGs.

Q&A WITH CAMILLA RAMBY

New Partnership with Nilfisk: Impacting the Future of Sustainable Cleaning

Faced with some of the biggest challenges caused by the impact of Covid-19, industrial cleaning giant Nilfisk reached out to HelloScience and Novozymes to see what could be done to tackle this. During the summer of 2020, the two organizations worked to map out 5 key areas that they could focus on, and then engage with Innovators and Startups to take them forward. To learn more, we sat down for an interview with Camilla Ramby, the Executive Vice President of Nilfisk.

77

Q&A WITH CAMILLA RAMBY

HS: Camilla, why are you supporting the „Impact the Future of Sustainable Cleaning” Challenge? CR: Cleaning has always been important. However, with the spread of COVID-19 the need for finding innovative and sustainable ways to clean is more important than ever. These are challenging times and they call for new partnerships, which is why we are excited to be part of this initiative. HS: Why have you chosen this collaborative partnership-driven approach to impact the SDGs instead of Nilfisk doing this alone? CR: Right now, we see a number of significant global challenges impacting people, societies and businesses across the world. No company can solve these by itself. By working together in partnerships, we build on each other’s insights and knowledge and can hopefully come up with solutions that none of us could have conceived on our own. HS: W hy do you think Novozymes and Nilfisk are a good fit and how do you think those two companies complement each other? CR: At Nilfisk, we have 114 years of cleaning expertise. We know what it takes to develop cleaning equipment that keep homes, hospitals and businesses clean and safe. Now we are able to pair that with Novozymes’ in-depth knowledge about enzymes and microorganisms as well as startup innovation to positively impact the future of cleaning together. HS: W hat do you hope the startups can bring and how do you imagine Nilfisk could collaborate with them after the LiveLab? CR: We know that there is a great talent pool out there! By working with innovative startups and entrepreneurs, who might look at the global challenges related to cleaning in a different light than us, we are looking for new sustainable ways to detect clean in different environments as well as new intelligent cleaning solutions. So we are very determined to make this a collaboration with a real impact on our future pipeline.

„ We want to explore sustainable cleaning with partners, startups, researchers and students to rethink the concept of clean.“

Q&A WITH RASMUS SCHJØDT PEDERSEN AND KELLY LYNCH

New Partnership with Sustainia The next generation of Sustainable Business Innovators will come from local communities around the world, many of whom are already facing the realities of climate change. Sustainable development, education and diversity will be key tools to address this. Sustaina has a mission to change mindsets and narratives around sustainability through impact communications and fact-based storytelling. In 2021 they helped launch a report with the UN Global Compact and DNV GL to celebrate leading companies efforts to drive climate action including Novozymes. Since then and together with HelloScience during the second half of 2020, we looked at how we could do more together, involving universities and communities. One key initiative was the Arctic Opportunity Explorer program, which took place during late 2020. Sustainia’s CEO, Rasmus Schjødt Pedersen, and Partner Manager Kelly Lynch, told us more. Q&A WITH RASMUS SCHJØDT PEDERSEN AND KELLY LYNCH

HS: Rasmus, what is the Arctic Opportunity Explorer challenge all about? RP: Throughout the years, Sustainia has focused on providing inspiration and concrete opportunities to tackle climate change risks. Now is the time to move from inspiration to action. Through the Arctic Opportunity Explorers challenge we did just that — by advancing the entrepreneurial ideas of students to lead to concrete action. By working with our six partner universities and HelloScience, we together facilitated a culture where students became the drivers of sustainable development at the societal level in the Arctic region. This case competition gave students the chance to work as part of collaborative groups to create solutions to real-world challenges. It is no surprise that the Arctic was the focus of this project. The ice sheets are melting faster than ever before, sea levels are rising, the permafrost is thawing, and the Arctic flora and fauna are changing. Global warming is causing fundamental changes in the Arctic. But it’s not all about nature. There are also major community issues to be solved in terms of reducing inequalities or the wellbeing of children. These elements create new challenges and new opportunities for the students to uncover to assist the Arctic communities who are inherently dependent on their local climate, environment and communities. 84

Q&A WITH RASMUS SCHJØDT PEDERSEN AND KELLY LYNCH

We asked students to get together to form groups, address a concrete challenge, and innovate to produce the beginnings of a solution, all with the help of digital collaboration tool HelloScience. HS: Kelly, why are you collaborating with HelloScience? KL: The complex problems present in the Arctic cannot be resolved by any one country or individual, making multilateral action more important than ever. For this challenge we knew it was imperative to partner with a leader in the fields of collaboration and innovation that could assist with establishing connections and partnerships between universities that have historically relied on physical connections. Over the years we’ve been lucky to establish a good relationship with Novozymes and their HelloScience platform was easily our first choice for this project. The functionality of the platform enables the students to network, collaborate, and create to uncover the best solutions for this case competition. HelloScience’s ecosystem of scientists, business developers, lawyers, startups, thinkers, and storytellers all have a shared passion for open innovation, open science and groundbreaking collaboration around the SDGs, crucial for this project.

“ By uniting the combined forces of Sustainia, Novozymes’ HelloScience platform, and academic institutions, the Arctic Opportunity Explorers challenge will take students entrepreneurial ideas from inspiration to concrete action to tackle the challenges present in the Arctic.” HS: Rasmus, what was your hope for what the Arctic Opportunity Explorers program might lead to? RP: We hoped that all individuals interested in making a difference in the Arctic would participate in this challenge. There was a place for everyone, from mentoring to forming your own collaborative group. Our desire was to make a real impact by fostering a culture where students are the drivers of sustainable development and by breaking down barriers to communication and collaboration. As Covid-19 has taught us, the old way of doing things is on the way out, we need to find ways to work together that do not require physical interactions. That is why we believe in the power of the partnerships we compiled for this project to multiply its impact and to create the speed and scale to facilitate the student’s entrepreneurial ideas which are impossible through unilateral action. 85

NOVOZYMES CEO ON HELLOSCIENCE

Ester Baiget at UN General Assembly

Ester Baiget, CEO of Novozymes opened the proceedings during a fireside chat with Yvette Torres-Rahman, Co-Founder of Business Fights Poverty on the importance of system-level partnerships. One of the reasons Novozymes was invited to speak at this year’s UNGA was Novozymes commitment to Innovation and Sustainability, including HelloScience.

About the General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA), the world’s largest annual gathering of global decision makers The global COVID-19 pandemic has been responsible for significant turmoil around the world, and the impact on gatherings and travel has been substantial and most UNGA events have gone online – this has certainly helped to open doors to participation from people and groups who wouldn’t usually be able to attend. Business Fights Poverty, the world’s largest business-led network for social

impact, contributed to helping make UN75 the most representative General Assembly to date by exploring, in a very practical way, how business and its partners can help create an equitable and resilient future. Throughout the week important topics were discussed including how we can create an equitable world, help build resilient livelihoods and help people survive and thrive.

“ As an innovative company, we believe in the power of collaboration and diversity – we know that when that‘s done well, 1+1 equals 3. Together with our partners and collaborators we have created a growing ecosystem of businesses, startups and entrepreneurs, universities, finance and legal expertise. With 2020, the start of the decade of action and delivery for the SDGs, HelloScience will be a fantastic contributor to our Sustainability Journey.”

CELEBRATING SUCCESS

Sustainary’s SDG Tech Awards 2020 HelloScience won Sustainary’s 2019 SDG Tech Award for Partnerships. Since then Sustainary has highlighted other key sustainability solutions in Denmark and encouraged stakeholders to implement them. Human Shojaee, Founder & President of Sustainary shared some of the outcomes from 2020‘s SDG Tech Awards and the Green Impact Week held in October 2020.

90

Sustainary is a non-profit organisation that was founded two years ago, connecting dots and building solution systems in sustainability, and establishing itself as a global green transition platform. What is great about Sustainary is that it is active in different universes. These include the SDG Tech Awards, the ultimate celebration of sustainability initiatives in Denmark – our 2019 Award for Partnerships was given to HelloScience. The 2020 Awards took place in October as part of Green Impact Week. The whole week was aimed at bringing together all players in the sustainability and impact sectors, strengthening the sustainability ecosystem in Denmark and linking to similar ecosystems globally.

One positive from virtual events is that all content is now available in our library and panel talks, pitches and presentations can all be reviewed, as the real action after the event begins. We are already setting up a Green Mentoring Programme and are looking ahead to Green Impact Week in the autumn of 2021. It is important to keep in mind that it is not one innovation or technology that will solve the problems of our society, but the collection and combination of those. That is why we are grateful to have other platforms like us, such as HelloScience, supporting sustainability initiatives.

Despite all the restrictions and strict rules on organising physical events, we hosted more 60 events virtually, with support from DISIE and Creative Business Cup, the European Commission, Vaekstfonde, Danmarks Grønne Investeringsfond and CLEAN – among others. 91

OCTOBER 2020 IMPACTING THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE CLEANING

TIME FOR SYSTEMIC INNOVATION The enormous challenges posed by the climate crisis and COVID-19 require collaboration that cuts across sectors and build new systemic approaches to innovation. In November of 2020, we focused our efforts on building a LiveLab that could lay the foundation for systemic innovation around sustainable cleaning. As we prepared for our Sustainable Cleaning LiveLab on November 4th, we highlighted some of the key LiveLab partners and participants to show how the systemic innovation brought to life by HelloScience Challenges can accelerate sustainable solutions. The LiveLab magazine pulled together insights from many of the LiveLab partners and participants. Here we look back and highlight a small selection of different perspectives from the magazine.

Collaborative Frameworks ON THE LIVELAB WITH ALFRED BIRKEGAARD

Collaborative frameworks amplify the progress we can make together. They make it possible for corporates to enhance and expand new cross-cutting technologies with startups; they can combine stakeholders on a local and national level, and they can connect incubators and investors who can support the development of new cutting-edge innovations and pioneering initiatives. It is this mindset that underpins HelloScience Challenges and creates the spirit of collaboration we thrive on. 94

We live in challenging times. Corona has changed the world as we knew it. While the physical world is getting smaller and we can‘t travel or be together the way we used to, new opportunities are also emerging. The challenges and constraints of Covid-19 have also opened up a new world of innovations to discover. We have to encourage innovation, but that requires the courage to step into the unknown – to dare to step out of our own comfort zones, open up and collaborate. It requires us to move into a space where we can build innovative new ideas that amplify collective intelligence, and move towards swift, new solutions and action in a rapidly evolving world.

CLEAN IS FREEDOM

SYSTEMIC INNOVATION

In all the areas that COVID-19 has transformed the way we see the world, the relationship between cleaning, health and well-being have taken on a whole new importance. Cleaning is no longer just cleaning – it‘s about safety and it’s about freedom: the freedom of coming back to society, to our schools, to our workplaces and to our cities. This has made us ask new questions, like: What does clean even mean? How can we create new forms of communication around cleaning? Are there more sustainable ways to clean – moving beyond chemical products and into the realm of more natural, biological solutions? Can cleaning innovation also be green, sustainable innovation?

In the ‘Future of Clean’ LiveLab some of the biggest corporations in Denmark stepped up to engage with Covid-19 cleaning innovation as a systemic challenge. We hope that a collaborative framework can amplify the progress we can make together. Making it possible for corporates to enhance and expand new cross-cutting technologies with startups, involving collaborators on local and national level, and connecting to incubators and investors that can support the development of new cutting-edge innovations and pioneering initiatives.

Innovation is about imagination, it‘s about world building, it‘s about the ability to see things differently than they are. COVID-19 forces us to rethink cleaning, but finding new sustainable solutions requires collaborative innovation.

If we step up and create a national strategy for systemic innovation, challenges, like COVID-19, can be converted into opportunities. They hold the keys to creating tens of thousands of new jobs; economic growth opportunities; and innovation that benefits people, society and the environment.

A special credit to Nilfisk, Novozymes, Dansk Erhverv and Gladsaxe Kommune for making this possible. Here’s to entering into a new era of innovation, together!

The Corporate Perspective with Nilfisk

Camilla Ramby // EVP & CMO, Nilfisk

„ We are inviting talents, startups and partners to Nilfisk so we can accelerate innovation within intelligent and sustainable cleaning together to address the key challenges currently facing our world.“

We sat down for a Q&A with the team from Nilfisk to find out why they joined the HelloScience Sustainable Cleaning challenge and what their hopes were for the outcomes.

1. W hat is Nilfisk? At Nilfisk we have made it our mission to enable sustainable cleaning worldwide to improve quality of life. We monitor the changing cleaning demands from businesses, institutions and consumers and have done so since 1906. Based on market insights we develop products of the highest quality and strive to drive industry innovation.

2. Why were you a core-partner in this HelloScience COVID-19 collaboration and LiveLab event, why was it relevant for you? With the spread of COVID-19 the need for finding innovative and sustainable ways to clean is more important than ever. These are challenging times and no company can solve the challenges alone. By working together in partnerships, we build on each other’s insights and knowledge and can hopefully come up with solutions together, that none of us could have conceived on our own.

3. What did you hope to get out of the LiveLab and what might come after? There is a great talent pool out there! By working with innovative startups and entrepreneurs with a fresh take on the global challenges related to cleaning, we were looking for sustainable ways to detect clean in different environments as well as new intelligent cleaning solutions. So we were very determined to make this a collaboration with a real impact on our future pipeline.

99

We are extremely happy to have Dansk Erhverv on board and to have CEO Brian Mikkelsen open the HelloScience LiveLab on the 4th of November. We sat down for a Q&A with Jasmina Pless from Dansk Erhverv to talk about why this collaboration was relevant for them, their best advice for the attending startups and how Dansk Erhverv can provide support after the LiveLab. 1. W hat is Dansk Erhverv (The Danish Chamber of Commerce) ? We are one of the largest professional business organisations in Denmark, with more than 15,000 member companies. We are a private non-profit organisation with the goal of making Denmark the preferred place to run a business. We represent our members politically and help with legal and expert advice as well as facilitate a trusted environment for establishing valuable business connections.

100

2. What is your best advice for the startups? And what does Dansk Erhverv offer startups that can help solving the cleaning challenge? Strong partnerships are important when you want to develop a successful business. As a member of the Danish Chamber of Commerce, startups get the opportunity to participate in networking activities with other startups as well as industry leaders. The Danish Chamber of Commerce offers a one-year free membership for startups.

3. Why were you part of this HelloScience COVID-19 event, why was it relevant for you and what did you hope to get out of it? Collaboration between small and large companies is important in order to create new groundbreaking technologies, that can solve the challenges that we face in relation to COVID-19. The Danish Chamber of Commerce is eager to foster strong partnerships around the Future of Clean, which has potential to become a Danish export, if we act now.

The Framer Perspective with Dansk Erhverv Jasmina Pless// Head of Entrepreneurship, Dansk Erhverv

„ Startups are the large corporations of the future. It is important that we nurture the Nordic collaborative spirit, where established companies cooperate with startups to build new groundbreaking technologies, that we can benefit from and export to the world.“

101

The Incubator Perspective with ClimateKIC Nordic We were also delighted that Mikkel Trym and Climate-KIC Nordic joined the event as well and we sat down to hear his perspectives, and what Climate-KIC offers to startups.

Mikkel Trym // Lead of Entrepreneurship, Climate-KIC

„ COVID-19 has stressed the importance of cleaning. Now more than ever we question whether cleaning could be done in more effective and sustainable manner. I believe we need an ecosystem with partners and novel ways of collaborating, to catalyze the innovation for systemic change across the cleaning sector. Society needs it. Organizations need it. Funders need it.“ 102

1. What is EIT Climate-KIC? EIT Climate-KIC is Europe’s largest climate innovation initiative, leveraging the power of system innovation in pursuit of a zero-carbon, climate-resilient society. Established in 2010, we orchestrate a community of more than 400 organizations including large corporations, municipalities, universities, NGOs, research institutes, etc. EIT Climate-KIC is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.

2. What is your best advice for the startups? And what does Climate-KIC offer startups that can help in solving the cleaning challenge? We always advise startups to spend as much time possible understanding your customer needs – whether they are the users of your product and services or business partners. Also, we see it as critical to build collaboration with those partners who

can help bring about the desired change and scale your company. We support startups in making such strategic partnerships that can leverage change and cascade impact. 3. W hy were you part of this HelloScience COVID-19 event, why was it relevant for you and what did you hope to get out of it? We were very pleased to participate in the HelloScience cleaning challenge. The partners around the initiative were super motivated and have deep knowledge in the area which is becoming more relevant than ever. Cleaning of tomorrow also implies looking at the ecological impact of cleaning whether it is in terms of lowering the CO2 footprint, using new probiotics, or upcycling and reuse of materials. Our hope was to see some new strong solutions and partnerships emerging as part of this great initiative.

About Skosh is a B2C brand offering the sustainable alternative to household cleaners. We develop and produce cleaning agents in the form of tablets, which turn tapwater into actual surface cleaning liquid by making use of nature‘s own cleaning power: micro-organisms!

Problem 95% of water wrapped in one-time-use plastic. Existing surface cleaning liquids consist of less than 5% actual cleaning ingredients but are made of 95% water wrapped in one-time-use plastic, thus a major contributor to global plastic waste. The heavy water weight leads to high but avoidable transportation CO2 emissions - why do we ship all that water around when we have it already at home?

Collaborative Possibilities We are looking for scientific mentors, strategic partnerships, and investors to bring state-of-the-art microbial cleaning technology to our customers homes.

Solution Cleaning tablets = 500 ml high-quality cleaning liquid We bring cleaning back to the essentials in a sustainable fashion by offering tablets for three different cleaning areas in order to clean the entire household: Multi-Purpose, Bathroom, and Glass-Cleaning. Each tablet prevents the production and sale of one plasticbottle and contributes to a healthy microbial balance.

NOVEMBER 2020 COLLABORATIVE INCUBATION THROUGH HELLOSCIENCE

THE THANKSGIVING EDITION As we made our way toward the end of the year we revisited SolarSack, who we have been with us from the very beginning of their own journey to create a sustainable, positive impact through clean water. The team had recently returned from Uganda, with some great new results to share. We also started work with innovative startup Skosh, who after the November LiveLab on Sustainable Cleaning began to engage with Novozymes. And at the local community level, Gladsaxe Municipality in Greater Copenhagen started to connect the dots between businesses large and small as part of their COVID-19 “Build Back Better” response.

Q&A WITH ALEXANDER LØCKE

SolarSack just back from Uganda We’re proud to have been a part of SolarSack‘s journey since its start in 2017, and excited about how the team have progressed from idea to prototype, and now to successfully providing safe drinking water for 25,000 people in a refugee camp in Uganda. Alexander Løcke, the founder of SolarSack brought us up to date with the latest developments.

109

Q&A WITH ALEXANDER LØCKE

HS: A lexander, you just came back from Uganda. Can you tell us a bit about your recent work and experiences from the field? AL: Over the past year, we have been working to do more field testing of our solution, which can turn dirty water into drinkable water within 4 hours by using UV filters and sunlight. The Kyangwali refugee camp project in Uganda is our most recent infield deployment, with 25.000 SolarSacks given to residents who currently have no access to safe water. About three months later after we distributed them, we saw how families in camp have begun using them. Our first round monitoring showed a 99% adoption rate and over 90% correct usage. From day one, we saw SolarSacks being used in multiple households, some hanging and ready for the family to drink, or placed under the sun. I was happy to hear from the management of the camp, the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Aid Agency OXFAM, and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) in Uganda, who have formally requested if SolarSack could continue the project and the sacks be distributed to the rest of the camp. HS: You’ve been part of HelloScience through 4 phases of development – from idea to concept, from prototype, to pilot scaling. Looking back, how has HelloScience helped you progress so far – and how do you see HelloScience helping you reach the next step? AL: Working with HelloScience in an open collaboration with Novozymes gave us the trust that we needed to launch a new product and an innovative technology. We have now proven that our product works with up to 99% user adoption rates. We can make a tremendous impact on our mission to “bring access to clean and safe drinking water to low-income communities”. HelloScience has given us access to a community of ideas, technical experts and initial funding that has been invaluable. We are now looking for partners and collaborators, through your network, to help us scale and join our mission and help us reach the 2.2 billion people worldwide without access to clean and safe drinking water. HS: W hen we first met SolarSack, you were only two people. Now you’re more than 12 people – How does it feel to grow and to scale up? AL: It has been quite a journey yet an organic one. It seems that we have found the perfect people just when we needed them. But I do see our SolarSack family as much bigger than just 12. We are a global team of local partners throughout East Africa, a great network of researchers, manufacturers, and NGOs that are working tirelessly towards our mission to create a measurable impact in the world. I am very proud to be a part of it.

Q&A WITH TOM HACKENBERG

Skosh on exploring the future of clean with Novozymes

Together with Nilfisk and Dansk Ervherv, HelloScience’s „Sustainable Cleaning“ LiveLab was held virtually last month. One of those startups participating was SKOSH, a very promising clean-tech company from Lund in Sweden, who are now engaged with Novozymes to receive mentoring from industry experts. Tom Hackenberg, Co-Founder and CFO of SKOSH, fills us in.

The SKOSH team Simon (left), Max (center), and Tom (right) are creating non-toxic cleaning solutions for our homes whilst reducing transportation weight and plastic waste. And like many simple things, it comes in a (very) small package.

HS: Tom, can you tell us a bit about your company SKOSH and your product? TH: We have Skosh because we believe that the safety of both planet and people should not require any trade-offs – especially when it comes to the products we use every day! That’s why we developed a simple, local solution to a complex, global problem: With our cleaning agents in the form of tablets, we provide high-quality cleaning liquid while getting rid of plastic waste, toxic-ingredients and unnecessary CO2 emissions. As Co-Founders, we all first met at Lund University and with great support from the startup Ecosystem in Sweden and Copenhagen and EIT Climate-KIC Nordic, we were invited to join the HelloScience platform. We currently offer our first-generation cleaning tabs for sale in Sweden achieving our initial first milestone release of 1000 tablets, and are following through on our vision to integrate microbial cleaning technology into our product to increase our positive impact. From the first meeting onwards , HelloScience and its ecosystem members have supported our vision and developmentprocess substantially. HS: What did you get out of joining HelloScience’s ‘Future of Clean’ LiveLab? TH: The LiveLab was the perfect opportunity for us to share our vision with a large audience of scientists and experts from the industry as well as startups working towards the same goal. Being introduced to the HelloScience partners including Nilfisk and Novozymes and increasing our understanding of their positioning, as well as state-ofthe art developments in the cleaning industry has been very valuable for us. The LiveLab also offered us the chance to network and connect directly with individuals offering support or advice.

114

HS: W hat did you get out of the first collaborative meeting with Novozymes, and what do you imagine this could lead to? TH: The initial touchpoint meeting with Novozymes offered interesting insights into Novozymes’ vision for probiotic cleaning, as well as their state-of-the art technology development. Since both Novozymes and ourselves are interested in scaling the use of microorganisms, we see potential to work together with the overall goal of achieving consumer and technology validation of probiotic solutions in sustainable cleaning tablets. We are excited that Novozymes has offered to provide some initial mentorship and inputs to us and we are very much looking forward to what opportunities this might bring.

About SKOSH The word “skosh” comes from Japanese. It means “a tiny bit” or “a small amount”. They chose the name because as every household already has the main ingredient for their cleaning solutions at home – tap water. Skosh aims to provide consumers with the last “small amount” needed to clean: Ingredients in form of a tablet.

STATUS REPORT WITH FREJA LUDVIGSEN

Piloting Probiotic Cleaning with Novozymes in Gladsaxe Kommune

Gladsaxe is a part of the Greater Copenhagen area, and is one of the fastest growing and largest business areas in Denmark. It places a strong focus on sustainable growth and business possibilities linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The HelloScience “Future of Clean” LiveLab has helped bring together stakeholders in the area to help challenge what “Clean” means, creating new relationships and new opportunities. Freja Ludvigsen, Chief Consultant of Gladsaxe Municipality updated us on progress. 116

Our Future of Clean LiveLab has created a historic new partnership and a 6 week pilot around probiotic cleaning between some of the biggest companies in Denmark with agile startups

probiotic cleaning

As a part of our build back better business strategy in Gladsaxe in response to COVID-19, we are focusing on the potential of innovation in the hygiene and cleaning industry. The impact of COVID-19 means there will be opportunities for new products and services that can bring people safely back to work and leisure without damaging the environment. Gladsaxe has some of the largest corporations in Denmark and as a business development manager for the Municipality I created a hub where we can explore new products and services together. We aim to combine the scale of large companies with the speed of the small startups. This has led to ISS Denmark, Berendsen, Forenede Service, Novozymes, MoveInnovation, Gladsaxe Intern Service and startups engaging in an open, confident dialogue on new business opportunities, and HelloScience has also participated.

At our first meeting in September we identified four lines of innovation: • Sustainable cleaning • Datadriven solutions

• Biological solutions • Behavioral design

Our first line of innovation is centered around Novozymes probiotic surface cleaners. We are currently co-designing an initial test in the headquarters of ISS Denmark, Forenede Service og Partneren in Gladsaxe that will be undertaken at the start of 2021. From a Gladsaxe Municipality perspective, I hope that this work supports the development and deployment of new products and solutions for sustainable cleaning service that are affordable, safe, and better for the environment, as well as those working in the cleaning industry. 117

GIVING AND RECEIVING GIFTS

DECEMBER 2020 THE HOLIDAY SEASON With the year drawing to a close, we focused on ways that we could continue to Build Back Better in 2021. We featured an insightful conversation with Ilze Melngailis of the UN Foundation as she shared her perspctives on Sustainability, Collaboration and Business. We also reconnected to our close collaborators at Grundfos and the startup Jalod Bust – to hear how they continued to build on collaborations that emerged from our Bangalore Livelab in 2019. Highlighting these developments was a fitting way to close out the year – showing how the relationships and collaborations we cultivate in the HelloScience ecosystem can truly build toward lasting impact across the world.

Q&A WITH ILZE MELNGAILIS

Perspectives on Sustainability, Business and Collaboration from UN Foundation

Since its creation in 1998 by global news media pioneer Ted Turner, the UN Foundation has helped mobilize over US $2bn to solve and scale cross-sector Sustainability issues, including climate, health, gender, diversity and poverty eradication. Through its private-sector focused leadership group, the Business Council for the United Nations (BCUN), the organization has long been at the forefront of working with leaders from a multitude of geographies, backgrounds and viewpoints. It has facilitated the sharing of best practices and real-life examples and worked with leaders across industries and sectors as they look to leverage their capabilities to inspire, nurture and scale innovative solutions to the complex issues that we as a global community are trying to tackle. A long-time friend, mentor and supporter of HelloScience, Ilze Melngailis from the UN Foundation and BCUN, shared her thoughts and perspectives with us. 120

HS: UN Foundation and BCUN and its core group of 30 or so Corporates are pioneering sustainability related approaches, from innovation to inclusion. How has that space evolved in the past few years? IM: This is definitely an exciting time to be working with companies because the most enlightened corporations are embedding sustainability into their corporate strategies and they are striving for transformational, not incremental change – it’s not enough to simply map existing ‘corporate responsibility’ activities to the SDGs. In fact, Novozymes was the one of the first, if not the first, company to fully embrace the SDGs holistically and throughout the company – to do so was bold at the time but is now the gold standard for the most sophisticated and enlightened global multinationals. The shift underway in the financial sector toward investing in sustainable, purpose-led companies is a critical driving force toward (not away from) sustainability. This shift took hold in climate but is spreading now to areas ranging from anti-microbial resistance to diversity and inclusion. One of the ‘cutting edge’ challenges now is the need for transformational system change at tremendous speed and scale, but how to put that into practice is where we need to rapidly evolve new forms of innovation and collaboration and for everyone to stretch outside our comfort zones. HS: UN Foundation and BCUN have worked alongside both Novozymes and HelloScience for several years now: What are the stand-out elements from HelloScience’s activities that most resonate with you? IM: Openness, scientific inquiry, creativity, collaboration, commitment, and passion are what stand out about HelloScience. Of course, at the UN Foundation and BCUN we were thrilled to see this investment grounded in solutions for the SDGs. HS: As we ended 2020, and began looking forward to “building back better” in 2021 – from your long experience combining business approaches with international development, in what ways could you see innovative corporate partnerships making the biggest positive impact? IM: The collaboration between competitors that emerged in response to the pandemic is intriguing and ideally will remain. Issue-based industry coalitions and cross-industry collaborations on climate, food systems etc. have the potential to drive truly transformative, widespread change – in both policy and practice. We need nothing short of this in order to achieve the kind of impact the world expects on big complex issues such as climate change, global health and meaningfully tackling inequality. Insofar as we need to build back not only better, but differently – I will say perhaps provocatively, that at this juncture, many of us need to have the ‘courage to be second’, to find a way to foster adaptation of the most promising innovations and solutions regardless of the innovator, company or country that originated it.

121

Ilze Melngailis Ilze Melngailis’ career has focused on applying business approaches to international development – accelerating gains in health, gender equality and poverty alleviation. She leads the Business Council for the UN (BCUN) and Private Sector Engagement at the United Nations Foundation, where she connects business with the UN and promotes companies’ participation in the UN’s historic Sustainable Development Goals. She also develops innovative corporate partnerships with the UN and other partners that help elevate the impact of each sector’s ability to drive progress. Previously, Ilze has developed and overseen social marketing programs and public-private partnerships in over 30 developing and emerging-market countries through leadership positions at GBC Health where she was Vice President, Partnerships and Impact Initiatives, and prior roles at the USAID-funded ACQUIRE Project at EngenderHealth, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), and consulting roles for the UN and other clients. A professional point of pride is having been the youngest-ever Executive Director of a global IPPF affiliate, when she founded and ran Latvia’s Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health, the first organization of its kind in the region following the collapse of the Soviet Union. IIze earned her Bachelor’s degree at McGill University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration with academic distinction from Yale University School of Management.

The vision behind Jalodbust and its mission to create positive impact A HelloScience microgrant, online support and expert mentoring were the first seeds that helped our friend Rakesh and Jalodbust at the very start of their journey and mission to change the lives of thousands of people in India who today clean drains and sewers by hand. Having recently won several social innovation awards, Jalodbust faces the next big challenge – securing the partners and funds it needs to scale up.

HS: Dear Rakesh, tell us about JALODBUST. What has happened in the last few months of 2020?

ISHOW India Award Award for Social Innovation

RK: Last few months have been interesting to say the least! Although we have received a lot in attention for the past year, due to COVID-19 we had to suspend our outdoor testing activities, and of course as a young start up the pandemic has also had a financial impact as well. However, we did not let our enthusiasm die, and have kept building up contacts and interacting with partners and stakeholders across the sector. What has excited me most in the past year is the amount of positive recognition and attention that JALODBUST has received. This includes:

ISC-FICCI Award Best in category for Upliftment of Sanitation Workers

October 28th: Signing an agreement with Catapult Design to help produce the physical JALODBUST unit. November 19th: The Smart-Bio-2020 Award from K-BITS (Best Social Enterprise/Institution), Government of Karnataka, India, presented by Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka State. Read more November 24th: Being shortlisted among the top-30 from 1000+ startups worldwide as part of the TIA (Together in action) challenge to change 1 Billion lives by 2030. Read more

Smart Bio Award Best Social Enterprise Institution

November 26th: The ISC-FICCI (Indian Sanitation Coalition- Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) award for ‘Best in category for Upliftment of Sanitation Workers’. Read more And a media feature on YourStory as part of efforts to liberate 2 Million workers handling fecal waste globally. I have to thank HelloScience.io and Alfred Birkegaard in particular for the continued support: HelloScience deserves a special reward as the 1st one to recognize and support JALODBUST.

Together In Action Top 30 out of 1000+ startups

And whilst the awards and recognition are great, what we want to do next is to secure the funding necessary that will enable JALODBUST to move to the next level and have the biggest positive impact – eradicating manual scavenging by sanitation workers.

Q&A WITH RAKESH KASBA

HS: What are you most proud of and how has HelloScience helped you in your journey? RK: I am proud of being the person ‘chosen by destiny’ to be part of the mission to end manual scavenging. By education I am a civil engineer and spent many years working in HydroPower construction almost 3000 kms from where I live today. All that has changed now, and I working full time trying to find engineering solutions to the problems of sanitation – especially supporting the “bottom of the social pyramid”. You just need to look – just once – at an image of what I am talking about to understand the positive impact that this change will have on so many lives. HS: What are the next steps for JALODBUST? RK: HelloScience helped validate my thoughts and ideas and visualize them for others. This was done through video interviews and Social Media exposure, as well as providing me a microgrant to get started. That was a real game changer for me and was the starting point for the current JALODBUST journey. Since then I have received a financial award from the ASME in the United States and a prototyping grant from SOCIAL ALPHA, India: But what needs to happen next is for JALODBUST to find and align with the right financial partner who can commit to the solution and support both its human and business value over the longer term. I believe that this partner is there, and I am open to any form of funding that can help – for example Grants, Philanthropic or Social Impact Funds, direct (equity) investment or loans. That funding will be used to: 1. Further enhance our current product design so that we are ready for and can scale up manufacturing 2. Deploy 1-2 vehicle-based JALODBUST units so that sanitation workers can be trained in the use and operation of the solution. From there we will also begin to work to develop entrepreneurial skill sets for those workers, for example setting up a Sanitation Entrepreneurs program to create a self-sustaining economic model. I am convinced that we can create ladders out of both poverty and some of the worst working conditions imaginable for our fellow human beings. I know that the HelloScience network is there to help and as been very helpful so far, and my resolve is as strong as ever. If you would like to learn more or help, especially in helping us lift JALODBUST to the next level of development and impact, please contact me via my HelloScience profile here.

Jalodbust: A life-changing startup JALODBUST is a low cost and low maintenance, portable device that is designed to work as a sewage pump, agitator and declogger. Simple and robust, it can remove sludge from septic tanks, manholes or drains to clear domestic drainage, local sanitation systems or even clean up lakes. In India, many of these functions are carried out manually, impacting the health of sanitation workers, many of whom are at the bottom of the social pyramid. A project founded by Rakesh Kasba, a civil engineer turned entrepreneur, we were fortunate to meet him back in 2019 as he began his journey to create a sustainable business with social impact.

Photo by: Sharada Prasad CS Sanitation workers in the manholes brimming with waste water and settled sludge at the bottom to manually unblock the clogged sewer line. At the bottom of the Social Pyramid in India are ‘Manual Scavengers’, who clean and clear drains and sewers, usually with no equipment or protective gear, and for very low wages. JALODBUST aims improve the lives of thousands of sanitation workers in India by deploying its solution.

Jalodbust received a HelloScience Microgrant, which helped kickstart their journey in 2019. In 2020, they won several social innovation awards, and are now turning their efforts to meeting their next challenge – raising the necessary funds to scale up. Follow JALODBUST on HelloScience

Q&A WITH HENRIK JUUL NIELSEN

From HelloScience LiveLab in 2019 to Lake Clean-Up in 2021

In the words of its Founder Poul Due Jensen; “the world is full of problems that can be solved in a better way.” Grundfos is a global water technology company committed to pioneering solutions to the world’s water and climate challenges and improving the quality of life for people. It has a strong focus on Purpose, Sustainability and Innovation. As part of its relationship with HelloScience, Henrik Juul Nielsen, Director at Grundfos outlined the actions that Grundfos has taken in the last year to support lake clean-up and restoration in India – and why this is relevant to the organization as a whole. 128

HS: Henrik, can you tell us about your journey this year with the ‘Restoring Lakes in India‘ project? HN: I nspired by the HelloScience LiveLab around Jakkur Lake that we participated in back in early 2019, my colleague Marianne Knudsen and I developed a concept centered around cleaning up lakes in India. Later that year back in Grundfos’ Headquarters in Denmark, we pitched this and it was selected as one of two lighthouse initiatives for the company – from 200 proposed projects. From the start we knew that we could only achieve real-world outcomes through collaboration with others. Thanks to our great team in India we entered into dialogue with Cognizant, one of the world’s leading professional service companies, and put together a collaborative coalition of stakeholders. This now includes the Indian chapter of The Nature Conservancy, one of the world’s largest conservation organizations, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and Chennai-based Care Earth Trust, a non-governmental organization that works in the area of biodiversity conservation. Read more here What everybody has in common is the desire, drive and passion to make a difference, especially with something as fundamentally important as clean water and supporting ecosystems. During 2021, we expect to have completed the construction of an eco-friendly wastewater treatment system, walkways and green buffer zones along the lake. And if you ask me what excites me the most about this project? Simply – the fact that we are just doing it! There is a long list of potential projects in this space – including in India. Some get funded by the public, but they usually don’t make it that far. In this project Cognizant and Grundfos made sure that there is sufficient funding to deliver on the promise. It is very important for me to mention that we are not saving the world, we are just helping to enable and supporting people who are already engaged, and making our own, specific contributions. But If we hadn’t have stepped up, we wouldn’t be seeing this happening.

Henrik patricipating in the HelloScience LiveLab back in 2019 129

Q&A WITH HENRIK JUUL NIELSEN

HS: How did the HelloScience LiveLab in Bangalore back in 2019 spark this idea? HN: I t was exciting for me to see with my own eyes how the local community and different stakeholders have managed to restore Jakkur Lake and create recreational areas around it, where the natural biodiversity can flourish. I really liked the holistic way of thinking and the symbiotic relationship between municipality, small businesses and citizens. But it wasn’t just about cleaning the lake, it was about how the community and the environment benefits as a result.

„ For me there’s no doubt that the value of those perspectives was a catalyst for future action and our lake clean-up work. If we had only been there in 2019 with Grundfos we wouldn’t have done it.“ HS: What are the next steps and how can HelloScience support your innovation journey? HN: Lake clean ups are needed in so many places globally. A lot are polluted in many different ways. Sometimes – sadly – there are cases where lakes are used as dumps for industrial waste. We would love to use our current lake restoration project an inspiration and exploration activity for future sustainable business opportunities for our company. To create a sustainable business around this starts with – most importantly – seeing these activities not as a donation, but as a business offering to do something significant by applying its know-how and solutions to meet the needs of local environments, economies and communities. It’s complex, because the benefits go out to so many different parties, but I’m ready to take on the challenge. The most important question for me is how to create snowball effect from this. HelloScience can help support in accelerating the collaboration with startups and universities and potentially other corporate partners – and helping them visualize not just what’s possible in your mind – but also what can be achieved on the ground.

Q&A WITH AKS2TAL

Putting data to work through collaborative partnerships

Aks2tal is a company that produces and delivers environmentally friendly products, equipment and solutions to support a better indoor environment, with a specific focus on reduction of dust. Company founder Allan Schmidt spoke to us about how they are looking to benefit from the building of an app to gather relevant data insights from all the variables they need to work with, and how they are looking to build on their recent participation at the HelloScience “LiveLab” on Sustainable Cleaning. HS: Allan, tell us about your journey with HelloScience and your experience with the “Future of Cleaning“ LiveLab.

data that is generated when we put Novozymes probiotic cleaning solutions into a “real-world” environment.

AS: A t the LiveLab, many competent and skilled companies from the hygiene and cleaning industry participated, and they came with a wide range of inspiration and knowledge.

HS: With the pilot testing you are now doing with your IoT App. Can you explain how it all works?

With the ongoing focus on Covid-19, we are really excited that those conversations have turned into an initial pilot project with ourselves, ISS, Gladsaxe Municipality, Forenede Service and Novozymes. The aim is to use our App that we have developed to communicate, document and keep track of 132

AS: T he aks2tal app’s purpose is to create a cost-effective solution to support indoor climate processes, based around documentation and data driven actions. This can be applied for quality assurance reporting for example by environmental organizations, for veterinary control or for labor inspection – or in schools, offices, nursing homes.

Q&A WITH ASK2TAL

To support this, we have developed the following feature sets (see next page). Error reporting: Since we work with dust reduction and cleaning, we have repeatedly experienced that floor washing machines that are not maintained, or cleaned will not function properly, or worse, not at all. So we developed a simple visual error reporting system where anyone with the app can take pictures, describe and report errors which can then be discussed and resolved internally. This solution is good for example if you work on 3 team shifts and there are only service people on one shift. So instead of spending a long time describing it in words, you can take a photo that you have no doubt about what the error is and categorize them more easily. Audit planning: We have developed a simple checklist feature where you can create a template to automate the cleaning audit process. Here you can have your quality system, cleaning plan etc., and if you exceed the planned deadline, the user will be notified by email. Cleaning log with stock: Here, cleaning staff can help monitor and record the state of the area that has been cleaned, and informed by email on when a product reorder is needed so that the right amount of cleaning solution is used in relation to getting the optimal indoor climate.

Sensor (IoT) data collection: We have developed a set of sensors that can collect data on e.g. dust (pm10, / pm2.5), CO2, temperature and more to document the effect of applying a cleaning process or solution. In addition, we can create reports that can be audited at weekly meetings and used as documentation to authorities and the like. Check-in system: We are also currently working on a geofencing check-in system to document that, for example, the cleaning staff were at the location when they checked in, to create trust between customer and supplier. This creates an overview for a manager whose staff is out in many locations. For all functions, you can have the app notify you if the function is not performed or if there is a limit value that is exceeded. The app is structured in such a way that it is easy to work in, with a flat structure, you decide which levels to give access to. Here, both user and customer can follow to perform the task, so you can be at the forefront and remedy any problems before they arise. When we put all these pieces together we effectively create an information ecosystem, and we hope that this will enable some great results for everyone participating – including seeing how Novozymes new probiotic cleaners perform.

Access control: This gives the opportunity to provide personal access to one or more departments, companies and the like as required.

Q&A WITH JENS AHRENGOT BODDUM

Update on new features and infrastructure HelloScience’s coder in residence Jens Ahrengot was busy throughout the end of 2020 creating new collaborative tools for us that would be announced just after the New Year – however… as The HelloScience team couldn‘t wait for 2021 to begin, we thought you should have a sneak peek of what’s in store. 2021 is not only about new features, it’s about building an infrastructure that will take the HelloScience platform to the next level. More social features, smarter user-centered algorithms and real time access to big pools of knowledge.

134

Q&A WITH JENS AHRENGOT BODDUM

HS: It seems since your last update Jens that we’ve all gone digital! What have you been up to since the summer of 2020? JA: Hello again, everybody! Last time I gave you a HelloScience platform update, I talked about the 3 tracks we were working on. To recap, there were: Track one: The Community Board (which was completed in July) The way we approach designing, building and deploying new features is via an iterative process. You may have heard of a minimum viable product, but what we have done is to initially roll out a minimum lovable product – Something that does just enough to determine if you – our community – find the feature useful or not. And your feedback really matters! Why? Because it enables us to continuously improve updates to those features until any rough edges have been smoothed out, leaving us with a result that supports you – an overall structure of the HelloScience platform. Anything built on strong foundations has lasting power and enables us to add more features in the future. The Community Board is no different, and although its only been a few months we already have improvements scheduled for early 2021. Those improvements include faster load times and better mentions/tagging that will allow you to filter the posts/updates in whichever way is most relevant to you. The next big update was track two.

The Community Board will launch in 2021 on the HelloScience homepage. It allows you to reach out to everyone on HelloScience. You can post announcements, share knowledge and ask questions that will help you – and others – grow.

135

Q&A WITH JENS AHRENGOT BODDUM

Track two: Collaboration Space The case pages that outline start-ups, projects and initiatives will receive a major revamp, focusing on utilizing our network graph to find the most relevant people and related cases, so it’s easier for you to connect the dots between everything that’s happening on helloscience.io

The Collaboration space centers around a specific case, but it opens up to other cases alike in ‘related cases’ and suggests potential collaborators in ‘suggested mentors’. The comment section is where the magic happens sharing your knowledge, asking questions or connecting with the team.

We’re also improving the tagging/mention feature in our comments throughout all of our comment sections, to make it easier to include the right people in the discussions taking place. Next up, is track three.

Q&A WITH JENS AHRENGOT BODDUM

Track three: Infrastructure Update As you know, I like to fix up old cars in my spare time, and with this update, we are really going “under the hood” and giving the engine running HelloScience a tune up. To get a touch geeky for a moment, we’re re-architecting the underlying infrastructure to support more social and realtime capabilities in 2021. In simple terms, it means we’re moving more towards a more social platform where keeping track of conversations and partnerships become as frictionless as possible. This is related to the messaging system I touched on in my last update but it digs deeper than that. We want to be able to integrate and engage with relevant platforms outside of helloscience.io in a way that’s easy to navigate but powerful in terms of the content available. We’re also expanding our network graphs, to envelop much more research and data than what is currently available today. To do that, we are starting by integrating with databases from universities and other relevant institutions.

HS: How do you think all these changes will improve HelloScience? JA: I think we’ll see a platform with much, much more content without becoming overwhelming. That is of course a big challenge to manage, but we’ve been planning ahead for quite a while now and with the infrastructure updates we should be all set to succeed. I also think we’ll see a higher level of engagement between people, organizations and startups, given the new social features, which is really important. HS: As a coder, why are you so excited about creating infrastructure for collaboration? A: I feel the need… the need for speed! With updated infrastructure, so will be able to move much faster when pushing out new improvements and features. Getting online collaboration right, is a big and difficult task, but I believe very much in our team, and maybe even more importantly – in the people using our platform. 2021 will be a fantastic year!

137

THE YEAR AHEAD by the HelloScience Team

138

After a year of enormous global challenge and transformation, we’re excited to move into 2021 with strong partnerships and an increasingly robust digital platform to anchor us as the year unfolds. With the rollout of Covid vaccines, a renewed sense of optimism and possibility is slowly taking hold – and we’re truly looking forward to playing a role in helping the world ‘Build Back Better’. We’ll continue strengthening the relationships and collaborations at the core of HelloScience, and enhancing the digital platform and tools that drive connections and action across the ecosystem. Here’s to all that lies ahead in 2021!
