A movie night in the open air Sisterhood, pizza and cookies to share Now we’re moving on to our next fun chapter Full of hope, excitement and genuine laughter! Ahead lies the “new normal” at USC Time to grow, study and make priceless memories!
by Ruthann Erickson, House Director
Greetings to all Delta Tau Sisters,
Following the most unusual past two years, we are so excited to be back in full swing, not only launching an exciting new year, but celebration our 75th Anniversary as Delta Tau at USC!
I am particularly proud to say that we were one of only two houses on the Row to stay open during the Covid shutdown. The House Board set up safety protocols to allow those Kappas who wanted to live in the house to stay protected and nurtured. Sven and our amazing kitchen staff rose to the challenge of modified meal service with delicious boxed meals. I am delighted to share that the members enjoyed each other and bonded as never before, connecting in person and over Zoom as the University closed down in-person instruction.
I am especially grateful to the house leadership for keeping all aspects of the Chapter functioning, both socially and academically. And I want to offer a special “thank you” to our Chapter advisors, parents, volunteer leadership and our amazing staff led by our wonderful House Director, RA!
We are always looking for Delta Tau sisters to serve as Advisors or House Board members. We could really use your participation if you have the time and interest! Please let us know! Remember many hands makes for light work, so join with a Kappa friend.
Looking forward to great Kappa Year and a fantastic 75th Anniversary Celebration!

Connecting at the Convention!
Seven House Board members attended the Kappa Kappa Gamma 74th Convention that was held from June 23 to June 26 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert.

As non-voting representatives, our attendance was simply to become aware of the new changes in the Fraternity’s Bylaws and to become acquainted with the slate of new Kappa National officers and District Advisors.
The theme of the Convention was “Be Bold! Be You! Be Kappa!“
And that we celebrated!

Meet Dilay
Introducing our Delta Tau President!
Santa Monica native Dilay Akcora is a Trustee Scholar on the pre-law track, attaining a double bachelor’s in Political Economy and Global Health with a minor in Accounting. Throughout her life, she has exemplified the Kappa Kappa Gamma principles of integrity, respect and regard for others. Her previous leadership role as Panhellenic Delegate sparked her interest to continue representing the house, while making strides for each member of Kappa to feel valued, empowered and inspired throughout her member experience.
On campus, Dilay is a member of Model United Nations, Novus Think Tank, and served as the President of One and All, a performing arts and social justice organization. This past semester, she conducted human subjects research within the USC Keck School of Medicine, and continues to intertwine her passions for global health, policy and economics into her involvement off campus. She sits on LA County’s JustTransition Fund Finance Committee, the LA Mayor’s Youth Council for Climate Action, and represented USC in the 2020 UN’s Sustainable Development Goals Academy.
With a deep passion for the arts, Dilay enjoys playing the piano, singing classical and jazz music, songwriting, performing theater, dancing and producing films with her friends at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

As President, Dilay’s primary focus is to broaden the impact of Kappa Kappa Gamma Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives into all aspects of the member experience, leadership and chapter culture, promoting Kappa’s core values of friendship, leadership and scholarship, representing goodness in the house, and ensuring the house makes a positive impact both on campus and in the Los Angeles community.
Dilay is eager to continue the legacy of the many presidents before her, and sustain the motivating, creative and inspiring atmosphere within Delta Tau. Thank you, Dilay, for your leadership and heart!

Kappa Kappa Gamma sister Hope Kniess, otherwise known as Zarenae in the Music Industry, is a fast-rising singer/songwriter. A University of Southern California 2021 graduate with a BS from Thornton School of Music and Marshall School of Business; Zarenae is no stranger to knowing the value of hard work. Taking the position of Kappa House Chair in 2020-2021, she created new safety and sorority house living rules to enforce and protect her sisters from Covid-19. Although a complicated and difficult task, she still managed to master writing numerous songs and melodies but not neglecting her rigorous studies.
This Kappa sister made her first original song debut this year with “Body Talk”. The vocal track rides the beat perfectly. Following the “Body Talk” song release, Zarenae released the “Body Talk” music video shortly after. Directed by John Kahle and shot by Asa Nam; this Kappa keeps the energy high and shows her love for fashion and dance!
Shot at the locally famous H Studio in Sun Valley, CA. Zarenae wanted this video to portray her personality and fashion sense to the world. She stays true to herself with her high energy, positive vibes, and a bit of quirkiness, which can be seen throughout the entire video.

“Whether it’s in a song or a two-hour set, my goal is to help people forget their daily problems and let loose so that they can have fun and dance!” Zarenae says. “I’m just a fun California girl, and I hope my music can spread positive energy so that people can escape daily pressures and enjoy a fun moment”.
Currently, Zarenae spends countless hours and days in the recording studio bringing her songs to life while building her brand and her music.

Sven’s Harvest Salad
1 cup Roasted Acorn Squash
½ Green Apple
¼ cup Pomegranate Seeds
½ cup Quinoa

1 oz Feta Cheese
1 cup chopped Kale
Vinaigrette (combine in bowl or jar):
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1 T Dijon mustard
1 tsp monk fruit maple syrup
(or substitute with granulated sugar)
½ tsp sea salt
¼ tsp fresh black pepper
½ cup olive oil
Cut Acorn Squash in half; scoop out the flesh from ½ of Squash and dice it into smaller cubes. Lightly toss in olive oil, add salt and pepper and roast on a baking tray at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until soft and golden brown in color.

With the other ½ of the Acorn Squash, scoop out the seeds and rub some olive oil around the flesh. Season with salt and pepper and roast at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or until soft and golden brown.
Let baked cubes cool to room temp, then combine with remaining ingredients, toss with vinaigrette, and serve in the Squash bowl.
May memories of your Kappa Home extend to your home today!
