Because if you’re going to apply makeup, you might as well do it with care. 'mineral makeup care' is a collection of skincare-powered makeup that is as good on the inside as it looks on the outside - thanks to the naturally hydrating qualities of Dead Sea minerals and the age-resistant powers of Dunaliella algae.

Celebrating its 21st year, Israel’s foremost jazz festival is proud to host the internationally famous jazz musician Lee Konitz, one of the original jazz greats still going strong. In a special production, Konitz joins a group of Israeli jazz stars, led by the saxophonist Yuval Cohen and together present the all-time hits of the jazz world. The main Israeli performance features the original “Pa’amon” (Bell) Project, led by the pianist, composer and arranger Adi Rennert, whose music combines Israeli, modern and world music. Rennert will host several outstanding Israeli musicians, with whom he has collaborated during his extensive career, among them Barry Sacharoff, Rona Kenan and Mika Karni. During the three days of the Festival, there will also be performances by international stars, such as Don Friedman, Gary Smulyan and Veronika Rodriguez, accompanied by Israeli musicians. Alongside the international lineup, there will be performances by many Israeli jazz groups, young and old,

The 5th Eilat Chamber Music Festival Feb 18-27

The Eilat Festival is an international chamber music festival that each year hosts internationally acclaimed musicians from all over the world. The artists come together to perform a variety of chamber concerts and to hold master classes for students from Europe, USA and the Far East. The Festival takes place in Eilat, Israel’s southernmost city and leading tourist resort, visited by tens of thousands of visitors every year.

During its five years of existence, the Festival has become one of the most exciting and prestigious chamber music festivals in the world, hosting the world’s greatest musicians and attracting audiences from Israel and abroad. Over the course of 10 days, the Festival will offer, in addition to the canonic classical repertoire, a variety of concerts and activities combining music, poetry, theater, and comedy. The Festival will host renowned artists from a variety of musical genres: classical, early, Gypsy, Celtic and contemporary. Festival highlights include a special concert dedicated to UNICEF’s efforts to prevent AIDS in Africa conducted by conductor, violinist, composer and comedian Aleksei Igudesman (Austria), with the participation of Sir Roger Moore (UK) (a special UNICEF ambassador since 1991) and violinist Julian Rachlin (Austria). Italian composer Fabio Vacchi will attend the festival for the performance of his work Irini, Essalam, Shalom, dedicated to the promotion of peace and condemnation of violence, combining texts in Greek, Arabic and Hebrew taken from the Gospel, the Koran, and the Hebrew Bible. The festival will also host the internationally acclaimed Israeli author Amos Oz, who will read from his latest book of short stories Scenes from a Village

Life, accompanied by the percussion duo PercaDu. The festival venue is the Leonardo Club Hotel (formerly the Golden Tulip Club). Festival information and program: www.eilat-festival.com or (08) 6377036 Tickets: (08) 6336272

Purim

Sunset Feb 27–March 1 Purim is the most festive of Jewish holidays, a time of parties, prizes, noisemakers, dress-up costumes and sweet treats. Commemorating a major victory over oppression and the foiling of a plot to kill the Jews of ancient Persia this festival is eagerly awaited by young and old. The Fast of Esther held prior to Purim in honor of the Purim heroine, is not a fast of sadness, rather of elevation and inspiration and ends after the first reading of the Book of Esther, one of the books of the Hebrew Bible. Imagine the frivolity of Carnival, the youthful exuberance of Halloween, and the bravado of a thousand year old war victory – all rolled into one day. Favorite traditions are swopping of Mishloach Manot (packages of edible treats), eating the symbolic Hamantaschen (3 cornered pastry delights with a variety of scrumptious fillings) and getting dressed up in fancy dress and attending school dressed as the latest superhero or Disney character. Schools are closed on the actual days of Purim.

Zadok Ben-David’s

to have a good time as according to Jewish law, drink should be consumed in copious amounts (by those over the legal drinking age) in order to no longer be able distinguish between the names of Purim’s hero, Mordechai, and its villain, Haman. Not to be missed is the Adloyada, a street parade, held in many cities, with colorful floats and energetic and enthusiastic participants of all ages. Not to be missed is the street parade in Holon, (starting 12pm March 28), this biggest in Israel, whose theme this year “Adloyada is Another Kind of Opera” celebrates 25 years of the Israeli Opera as well as the city’s 70th birthday. Children’s entertainment is boundless and the Orna Porat Theater for Children and Youth presents “Festival Yaron” (in memory of fallen IDF soldier, the late Yaron Yerushalmi) which runs from Feb 27 – Mar 1 offering excellent theatre productions. Further information (03) 510 5656 www.porat-theater.co.il If you have the best fancy dress prize in your sights, then a visit to Burch and Daughters, a magical and enchanted world of dress-up, guarantees you first place. Exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art The exhibition, extending over two halls, presents single sculptures and a sculpture installation – a selection of recent works by sculptor Zadok Ben David. The sculptures are steel cutouts of figures whose bodies are an image of boughs and foliage, or of trees whose foliage is a silhouette of human activity; sculptures that are isolated, enclosed, anonymous presences, each standing alone in space. The large sculpture installation is a wide field of sand planted with 20,000 cutouts of defined, specified flowers, and its appearance transforms and astounds throughout the viewing. Crossbreeding images of nature with descriptions of the human body, and relying on the angle of vision, are both the common denominator and the code of this cohesive group of works which is a further chapter – or an intermediate summary – of the sequence of Ben David’s work in creating ironic parallels to our various modes of perception. Exhibition runs until Feb 27, 2010. hello ISRAEL

Sun closed. www.tamuseum.com New EXHIBITION Helena Rubinstein Pavilion for Contemporary Art FAMILY/TREE II New acquisitions donated by the Rivka Saker and Uzi Zucker Fund for Israeli Contemporary Art. Thirteen artists participate in Part II of the exhibition Family/Tree, with paintings, sculptures and installations. The age gap between them is over forty years, and in this sense they represent several generations and different artistic approaches in Israeli art. However, the works are all from the past decade, from 2000 onwards, except for one work dated 1996. As expected, there is similarity in the works, derived from the historical and artistic periods alike: a note of pessimism, death, decline and violence.
