The myriad of events and performances will be held in venues throughout Jerusalem, including the Jerusalem Theatre’s newest hall, the New Studio, Gerard Behar, the Targ Music Center in Ein Kerem, the Mamilla Alrov Quarter Promenade, the Botanical Gardens, the Pavilion in the Talpiyot industrial zone, Sultan’s Pool, Binyanei Haoma International Convention Center, Brigham Young University, Mt. The Jerusalem Festival of Light 2010

Jerusalem, June 9-16 (20:00 – 24:00)

This three week celebration promotes world-wide artistic dialogue and embraces all disciplines and styles of performing arts from classic to contemporary. The festival proudly hosts artists from many countries including Israel, the United States, Britain, Argentina, Georgia, Lithuania, Germany, Denmark, France, Korea, Iceland, Poland, India and Japan.

These talented craftspeople are at the cutting edge of 21st century culture and creativity, their work distinguishable by its individual language, unique interpretation and virtuoso performance.

Light has its own presence. Beyond its practical functions, such as creating security, illuminating obstacles and marking passageways, light also enables the observer to perceive the surroundings in a different manner. This process has opened artists to a new world that integrates beauty, concept, abstraction and technology and includes a wide spread of possibilities and usages.

The Festival of Light in the Old City will provide through the use of light, a dramatic and artistic dimension to the Old City’s nights. From the illumination of architecture to light statues, the festival will be a public and family oriented celebration that artists from different fields will partake in. A virtuosi performance integrating theatre, dance and acrobatics along with lighting and pyrotechnic effects will be especially organized for the festival at Habonim Gardens. The opening performance for the festival will take place in cooperation with the Israel Festival and will consist of a huge concert at Sultan’s pool performed by the Israel Symphony Orchestra. will light up in a new light the Old City, its alleyways and sites and will continue to promote the Old City of Jerusalem as a multi-faceted site, with an enchanting and delightful nightlife.

11th Gay Pride Parade Tel Aviv, June 11

Each June for the last 11 years, Tel Aviv has celebrated Gay Pride Day with an exuberant parade that attracts thousands of enthusiastic participants – gay and straight – from all over the country. White Night Festival Tel Aviv, July 1

“Keel” by Emmanuel Hatzofe At The Container (Art Space, Bar & Restaurant)

Tel Aviv Museum of Art Israel’s main art museum hosts more than half a million visitors per year.

It features a dynamic program of changing and permanent exhibitions, cultural programs of classical and jazz music, performance arts, lecture series, special events, children’s programs, dance, and cinema.

Sun closed. www.tamuseum.com New EXHIBITION Exhibition of Emmanuel Hatzofe “Keel” At The Container (Art Space, Bar & Restaurant) Using The Container as a springboard, themes of space and place in time, play central roles in the exhibition. As we see Jaffa developing, the port and the old city are experiencing a sudden flurry of cultural activity. ‘Keel’ explores the role of The Container in the Jaffa renaissance and its physical positioning in an undefined place –existing between land and sea.

(The Keel is the backbone of a boat).

Emmanuel Hatzofe’s studio at the end of the pier is an old train carriage, and like a Masonic alchemist lab, is a treasure trove of sculpture. Inspired by his surroundings, Emmanuel produces stone sculptures in a

technique that is slowly dying out, using a chisel and hammer to break out of solid pieces of basalt, granite and marble his reduced and sensual shapes.

Hundreds of Origami fish that are suspended in the space reinforces the sculptures as it addresses the vast space in The Container.

Tel Aviv Museum of Art The Sculpture of Edgar Degas The exhibition presents, for the first time in Israel, Edgar Degas’ (1834–1917) 74 sculptures in bronze.

The bronzes were cast from plasters made directly from Degas’ original waxes. Degas worked in various artistic media: oils and pastels, etchings and photography, painting on monotype plates and sculptures in wax, as well as writing poetry. He exhibited only one sculpture in his lifetime: “The Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen” – a realistic wax sculpture which he dressed in real clothes which aroused much curiosity and criticism when presented in 1881 at the sixth Impressionist exhibition in Paris. His sculptures focus on five main themes, presented here as five chapters: dancers in motion, dancers behind the scenes, bathers, portraits and horses. Exhibition runs from March 26 until June 26.

holocaust survivor who escaped forced labor in Romania, closes the circle of his past and emphasises the concept of renewal with his latest exhibition of works that have been created from the depth of his experiences and soul which have been “covered with a layer of dust for many years”. "Shelf Life" Haifa Museum of Art This exhibition is one in a cluster of eight concurrent exhibitions that explore the phenomenon of collecting and collections. :”Shelf Life” investigates the growing interest in "collecting" expressed by contemporary artists. The works in this exhibition reflect the aesthetics of various "collections" and give expressions to acts of collecting and ordering. They raise questions such as what transforms an accumulation of objects into a "collection," and what drives artists to collect. The exhibit demonstrates how contemporary Israeli and international artists relate in their work to various types of collecting, while examining the aesthetic syntax of various kinds of collections and the psychological aspects of collecting and of the artist-collector's obsessive world.

Schulze a renowned German photo journalist, this photographic exhibition follows his journeys across Afghanistan, a land of wild landscapes and bitter wars, Schulze portrays stunning views and its people, their daily lives and hardships.

Visiting Afghanistan several times between 2002 and 2008 during

all four seasons Schulze and his small team travelled about 4.000 kilometers throughout the country.

The team accompanied military patrols to desolate villages where Schulze photographed breathtaking landscapes from the ground and while flying in a helicopter. This exhibition gives a very authentic picture of this downtrodden, but nevertheless wonderful country.

Each item of jewelry in the Moriah collection is designed and made by hand, projecting a potent message through the unique combination of materials that represent the power, the value and the sanctity of Jerusalem: diamonds - the hardest and most precious stone in the world, gold - the noblest of metals, and Jerusalem stone from the Temple Mount - the holiest place in the world for more than 3000 years.

IDC's jewelry designers have retained the raw integrity of each stone from the Temple Mount in order to preserve its originality, suffused with sanctity and symbolism. The Moriah collection is made up of items in a limited series, the number of items in each series being around 7, a number of special significance in Judaism.

The name Moriah, chosen for the new collection, refers to Mount Moriah where Abraham bound his son Isaac for sacrifice - which is the Temple Mount on which the temple was built in Jerusalem and from which the stones in the jewelry were taken.

A few years ago, the Waqf carried out expansion work on the Temple Mount

and a large quantity of excavated material was removed. In 2004 a tent was set up in Emek Tzurim, at the foot of the Mount of Olives, in which to sift through the excavated material from the Temple Mount. From this came dozens of coins, pieces of jewelry, clay lamps, mosaic stones, pottery shards, glass and stones from the Temple Mount from which the Moriah collection was made.

Each piece of jewelry sold at IDC carries an international gemology certificate from leading global institutions such as IGC, EGL, GIA, and so on, and buyers receive full and accurate documentation for every

diamond purchased.

The IDC customer base mainly comprises buyers from abroad, especially from the countries of the former Soviet Union and eastern Europe, as well as tourists from western Europe, the United States and the Far East. The showroom is set up accordingly, with sales people who speak a number of different languages.

The company has a Russian language website, and will shortly be putting up websites in additional languages. The website is popular among existing customers, who use it to place repeat orders.
