A LETTER FROM VICTOR
Dear Helix Family,
I hope your December is off to a great start. I usually try to avoid cliches, but the expression “time flies” truly defines this moment. The holiday season is a busy time and can be overwhelming. It’s also when we all enjoy a well-deserved break. But it is also a great time to perhaps look back on the year past.
What a year 2022 has been! Rounding the corner and heading into 2023, it’s humbling to consider all that we have accomplished so far in 2022. Once again, this year we have grown our workforce. Not just in Las Vegas, but again in both Reno and Salt Lake City. Our growing operations allowed us to procure more work in 2022 than ever before.
And with our continued growth, our standard at Helix Nevada remains as high as ever. Our company and our work have been recognized in all three of our locations in 2022. This is a testament to our culture and the dedication of our teammates to deliver the best possible craftsmanship and service to all of our customers.
I am so proud to lead and be a part of a company that treats people right. We are honored to report that once again in 2022, Helix Electric has been voted Top Place to Work by the Las Vegas Review Journal. The award is based on independent survey and employee feedback. We are so grateful for the work so many have continued to do in support of our employee training, professional development, and employee engagement.
As we prepare for 2023, our mission remains the same: Empower People to Achieve Extraordinary Results. And we and our customers are so lucky to have a team of incredible professionals within our company to drive these results year after year.
In closing, I want to once again say thank you to all of our Helix Family. Our families, our customers, or vendors and partners. You have all been so generous in making us who we are today. We are Helix Proud.
Happy Holidays to All.
Victor
NORTHERN NEVADA
CODY KINNISON VICE PRESIDENT OPERATIONSHappy Holidays, 48. Thank you ALL for another outstanding year and I’m especially proud of the numerous reference letters we received this year. As we all know it takes all of us to accomplish our goals and to exceed our customer expectations. We continue to be a pillar of the community and pride ourselves to be the BEST electrical contractor in town.
We delivered and supported our community in 2022. This summer we held our Helix, 2nd annual golf tournament, donating over $24,000 to our selected charities. We also participated in Operation Turkey Drop–where we donated 70 turkeys to the Salvation Army. We also donated to Northern Nevada Food bank in November and numerous jobsites assisted with collections. Finally, we are currently helping support 5 families for Christmas along with volunteering at a soup kitchen for those in need.

ESTIMATING & DESIGN BUILD
LOU SMITH | VICE PRESIDENT – ESTIMATINGThe fall has seen a sea of change within the department. Our staff has seen an overhaul in the leadership structure, and I am thrilled to be leading the charge into the new year. We are putting in place many new procedures and processes to better coordinate the activities of Design Build, Estimating, and Operations. We are working to make our operation scalable to meet the higher sales volumes and the increasing demands for our services from our clients. Key leaders within the group have really stepped up and are contributing to the growth. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the key contributions of Cielo Cloud in helping me to develop and implement administrative controls and tracking systems that keep the projects moving smoothly through the department.
The workload in the Design Build department, which is a great indicator of future work for our operations team, is growing with over 75 projects currently in design with the expectation that all of these will become projects next year.
Estimating had several sizeable projects that we had been working on over the last year come to fruition. After long periods of budgeting, design assist efforts, and negotiation projects such as Morningstar Senior Living,
another large project for Switch Reno, Project Magnolia, which consisted of over 1 million square feet of industrial space, and the Founders Place ski resort in Park City Utah were awarded to Helix Electric, adding to the sizeable backlog we will carry into 2023!
TRAINING DEPARTMENT
JEFF SATTERFIELD | TRAINING MANAGERHappy Holidays from Training!
This year has been a busy year with a few changes. We have added a new trainer to the department, Jake Nielsen. Jake was teaching at NTI in Las Vegas when we recruited him. He will bring new ideas and energy to the training team.
Our outreach to area schools continues and we have made some promising connections. Global High School, Clark High School and ACE mentorship of Nevada has given us opportunities to talk with the students and arrange several field trips to our facility. We have hired several employees that have come from these contacts and will hopefully be able to recruit more in the future.
The ABC Craft Championships were held earlier this month. This competition has two categories group A and B. Group B is for 1st and 2nd year apprentices and group A is for 3rd and 4th year apprentices. The winner of group A travels back to nationals to compete against apprentices from across the country. Our own 2nd year apprentice, Anthony Ryan, competed in group B, taking 2nd place in the competition.
With 2023 fast approaching we are preparing for a busy year. We are going to restructure some of our existing programs to meet the needs of the field. We will be trying out some new classes for the field employees with an emphasis on basic skills and knowledge.
NATHAN GOODRICH OPERATIONS MANAGER SALT LAKE CITY
As 2022 comes to a close in a few weeks, I’m left reflecting on the many things we have to be grateful for. Here are a few of the things Helix SLC has to be grateful for:
• We’ve been very fortunate to build a team here with so many great and talented people. Remember, electrical work is what we do, but people will always be our business.
• We’re fortunate to have so much support from Helix Las Vegas, Estimating, Purchasing, Tools, Manpower, Safety, HR, and especially Victor. We couldn’t do it without your help.
• We have been able to establish great relationships with our trade partners and clients in a very short period of time.
• Our electricians in the field are doing a great job. Here are two examples.
Red Lion, a downtown 13-story hotel conversion to studio apartments, is just finishing up now. The owner had a very aggressive schedule, especially with all the supply chain issues this year for all sub-contractors. Juan Guzman, Jon Calder, and the crew did an excellent job keeping up with the schedule and the extra work thrown at us towards the end of the project. Even with all the extra work and the challenges of renovating a 60+ year old building, we were still able to complete the project in the ten-month schedule.
Our other larger project with R&O Employee Housing in Park City,
has had its own challenges. The owner has accelerated the schedule on some of the buildings so that we can get heat on for the drywall and other finishes. Derek Ferguson and crew have worked late nights and weekends to meet all the new deadlines. Employee Housing is now moving forward at a rapid pace. Three of the seven buildings are complete and turned over to the owner. We’re down to our last four buildings which will be completed in the spring.
Both projects are great examples of what it means to work for Helix. We get things done and are a partner they can always depend on.
As Christmas nears, here is our wish list that we’ve sent to Santa Claus.
• More Supers and Journeymen Electricians for James Fox
• 30% Negotiated jobs for Nathan Sawyer
• Clients that pay on time for David Alger
• Projects to start on time for all of us
• Lots of snow in the mountains for Lawrence Fuchs
• An assistant for Mindy
• Tony Peterson wants more tools and a larger warehouse
• Massaging work chair for Porter
• A heated blanket for Mikayla
• Scout cookies for Kirt Svedin
• And peace on earth Let’s

Helix’s Scope of Work included electrical distribution upgrades, specialty/architectural/entertainment lighting and controls, equipment power connections, low voltage systems (tele-data, security, fire alarm) for the restaurant and kitchen.
This was a challenging project due to the fact that we had to install over 300 Asian-style lanterns that were specifically fabricated for the project.

SAFETY
LAWRENCE FRY | REGIONAL SAFETYThe Most Wonderful Time of The Year
Happy Holidays everyone! The holiday season is in full swing and there are lots of activities going on which can act as distractions to our work. “Did the present we order arrive on time?” “Yes, Amazon it did.” “Did we forget to invite anyone to our holiday dinner?” “What was I supposed to bring to that party?”
It is a challenge to stay focused at work during this time of year. So, this is when it is especially important to take a few extra seconds for safety. When you find yourself working and your thoughts are running wild with all the plans and activities of upcoming family events, STOP, and take those few short seconds to look around and come back to the present moment. Look for the hazards in the middle of your activity. Are you standing properly on a ladder and is it appropriately positioned to face the work? Are you working in an awkward position or about to trip on something lying on the floor? Hazards do not go away magically on their own. It is our awareness of the hazards that dissipate due to distraction or more importantly, our lack of preplanning and taking action to remove or avoid the hazard. When we ignore hazards, we have significantly increased the chance of us or a fellow co-worker getting injured.
MANAGER
STAY SAFE ON THE ROADS THROUGHOUT THE HOLIDAYS AND EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR:
• Prepare your car for the winter months and keep an emergency kit in your car
• Get that oil change and replace your windshield wipers if needed
• Get a good night’s sleep before departing and avoid driving while tired
• Leave early to plan for heavy traffic
• Make sure every person in the vehicle is properly buckled up no matter how long or short the distance traveled
• Put that cell phone away; many distractions occur while driving, but cell phones are the main culprit
• Practice defensive driving and always remember, distance is your friend
• Designate a sober driver to ensure guests make it home safely after a holiday party; alcohol or over the counter, prescription and illegal drugs can cause impairment
Traveling During the Holiday Season
If you’re traveling this year, be sure your vehicle is in good running condition, get plenty of rest and be prepared for any emergency. Traveling by car during the holidays has the highest fatality rate of any major form of transportation based on fatalities per passenger mile. Be prepared so your family can enjoy the holidays incident and injury free.
Taking a few extra seconds for safety may seem unnecessary or inconvenient to you. Yet it is the one activity, the one action you might take during a busy and distracted day, which will have the most benefit in keeping you from being injured. Think of it as your holiday present to yourself and more importantly, to your family.
SERVICE LAS VEGAS
TROY MCTEER | SERVICE PROJECT EXECUTIVE
I am proud to say that my Las Vegas service team has excelled in overcoming every obstacle we have come up against this year. This team continually exceeds expectations while keeping the clients happy. I am so proud to be part of this team!
As we say goodbye to a great year and look forward to another great year, I think about one of my favorite movie quotes. “It aint about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.” Let’s all keep moving forward, let’s all have a winning day, a winning job and a winning year. I know as a team we can do anything.
The best way to finish a year was in the Veterans Day Parade. Thank you so much to everyone involved in making this happen. We had such a great time, and we are looking forward to next year’s Parade.
Department 27 IS Luxury 6200 square foot Demo and build back TI. We were able to work with the GC to complete this project in 4-months time. There were several elaborate lighting fixtures in the space.
I want to highlight a project for each department. We have so many great projects it was difficult to choose:
Department 26 Roseman University lighting of the Chihuly Sculpture
Each light fixture above went from a PAR 36 to a special LED to put out the correct light to enhance the sculpture beauty.
Automation
Dragon Ridge GC
Vertical turbine pump needed to be pulled and outfitted with a special collar.
Aria Baggage Handling System Controls
This project took a couple of months to complete. Helix reprogrammed the baggage conveyor controls at Aria in order to send the luggage to the correct locations.
SERVICE UTAH
TONY PETERSON | SERVICE DIVISION MANAGERIt has been an exciting year for the Utah Service Department.
2022 was filled with many challenges and even more successes.
We have many new customers such as O’Reilly Auto Parts Distribution Centers, Big D Signature, ALCO Construction, and Case-pak Packaging.
The Utah Service Team has continued to make Helix the electrical contractor of choice for existing Nevada customers such as Allegiant Airways, Cold Tech Services and Roseman University as we provided quality service for them on several high-profile projects in the Salt Lake City and Park City areas.
Currently in Department 49, we have two excellent service technicians, Ronald Blackburn, and Dave Mace. Both technicians have qualities that enhance the customer experience provided by Helix Electric.
In 2023, we are anticipating steady growth in the Utah Service Department to sustain the high demands of our
customer base. We will continue to provide excellent services to existing and future customers and look forward to adding additional service technicians who share the Helix vision and core values. 2023 is projected to be another promising year filled with success, teamwork, and growth.
