While the summer heat may soon see stars in non-fussy maxi dresses, they’re still all about looks that extremely fit the form. Let’s see if that carries into June. The Met Gala guests were asked to dress “in honor of Karl,” but who did it best? This was the question we asked readers shortly after the grand soiree, which celebrated the exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Was the most on-theme attendee Jared Leto stepping inside a furry costume and all-but-becoming the late designer’s famous cat, Choupette? Or perhaps it was Cardi B transforming according to the rapper herself into a quilted Chanel purse on the bottom and a sexified version of Karl Lagerfeld’s go-to wardrobe on top? Or maybe it was Nicole Kidman, who was able to go straight to the source and re-wear the iconic Lagerfeld-designed dress that she wore in a 2004 Chanel No. 5 commercial.

Bold colors also made a cameo this week, too. At FIT’s 2023 Future of Fashion celebration in New York City, model Karlie Kloss chose Schiaparelli’s red hot silky gown. The deep-V cut and gold strap detailing was designed to turn heads. At a Veuve Clicquot event in London, Jodie Turner-Smith also embraced bright red only, she rocked David Kona’s shaggy shearling coat instead, complete with a classic white tank and dress trousers. It’s a look so good it has us contemplating wearing heavy outerwear in the summer.

At the Fast X premiere in Rome, actor Brie Larson wore an archival Versace gown. Its plunging neckline added an instant wow factor to the otherwise pared-back look. At the same event, Charlize Theron chose Dior’s black sheer couture dress, which exposed a mini skirt and bra underneath. Paired with a beret and sky-high heels, the look felt elevated and fresh. An exposed bra is becoming a bit of a trend: Jennifer Lopez also embraced the look at the premier of her film The Mother in L.A. She went tonal in Brunello Cucinelli, pairing a cream bra top with a long overcoat and highwaisted floor-length skirt.
