It would be impossible to discuss Abela’s performance this season and the show’s entire run without talking about sexuality, which, for Yasmin, is inextricable from power. Yasmin is a
mermaid, using sex as a tool to dominate, soothe, and advance but she also suffers abuse from men because of her sexuality. Season three reveals her horrific relationship with her father, who pins her down during fights and maintains an erection while they argue.
While Industry isn't without its share of bad performances and this latest season has brought some particularly dynamic turns from the likes of Harry Lawtey, Ken Leung, and Sagar Radia Marisa Abela has emerged as the standout performer of the cast. Her restrained, subtle performance as Yasmin Kara-Hanani has kept the show grounded, even as Down and Kay continue to swing for the fences. For those who need a recap: After Yasmin's philandering father, Charles Hanani (Adam Levy), embezzles from his publisher and then mysteriously disappears from his boat, the British media sends paparazzi after Yas, branding her the Embezzled Heiress. When Charles is later murdered, Yasmin is forced to take responsibility for her misdeeds or go bankrupt trying to clear her name. Meanwhile, she’s still completely terrible at her job, having returned to the trading floor at Pierpoint after a stint in private wealth management. Although Yas finds a new mentor at work in Eric (Leung), he also brings a slimy, sexual undercurrent to their relationship that leaves the HR department wide-eyed.
