Regardless, taking good care of your skin now is a crucial first step to maintaining healthy skin. What's an easy tip to prevent wrinkles on your chest and neck? "Stay away from nicotine and use UV protection that's the be-all and end-all," says Prager, noting that sun damage ultimately accounts for about 90 percent of skin aging. "UV radiation is actually the biggest collagen killer." Prevention is the best cure but what if your skin is already showing signs of damage? According to Prager, seeing your trusted skin care professional is a great next step. He recommends rebuilding collagen and firming your skin with a combination of injectables and technology: "Radiesse dermal fillers stimulate the body's own collagen production, while Ultherapy micro-ultrasound treatments stimulate the formation of new collagen," he says, noting that the two treatments complement each other well. “Patients with aging or particularly thin skin can benefit from volume-building hyaluronic acid treatments, as is the case with the face.”

We’re also becoming more aware that looking “youthful” isn’t just about the face. “It’s also about the neck, chest, and hands,” Prager explains, citing several celebrities as examples of this phenomenon. “You can see their age on their hands,” he notes. While there are plenty of treatments available to treat the neck and chest, Prager stresses that anyone looking for instant results should know that this area of the body takes longer. “I always tell my patients: If you want to do something on your neck, you should be prepared to put in two to three times more effort than you would on your face,” he says, noting that while some topical treatments will boost skin in the short term, it often takes longer to actually build collagen.

Other methods of building collagen include microneedling with radiofrequency at the tip. Prager also suggests looking into photodynamic therapy (PDT), a gentle but effective treatment for sun damage. With so many options to choose from, it can be hard to know which one might be best for you. “There are really no limitations,” Prager assures. “Skin treatments with active ingredients applied to the skin work from the outside, while treatments like Ultherapy work from the inside. Since the body’s hyaluronic acid decreases by a percent every year after puberty, studies have shown that three treatments with a skin booster will result in thicker, more elastic skin that looks 10 years younger,” he explains.
