Located in one of the most haunted cities in America, the Marshall House is said to house the spirits of Civil War-era patients from its former incarnation as a hospital. Ghostly sightings have been reported in the hallways and lobby, as well as other creepy occurrences like faucets that randomly turn on. With its elegant Spanish-Italian Renaissance facade, marble lobby, and gilded ballroom, The Millenium Biltmore is easily one of the most impressive architectural wonders in downtown Los Angeles. It's also linked to one of the city's most notorious crimes the 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short, also known as the Black Dahlia; it was the last place Short was seen alive. Since then, a spirit believed by many to be Short has been seen wandering the halls in 1940s-style clothing, especially on the 10th and 11th floors.
In 1905, the sudden death of Stanford University co-founder Jane Stanford made headlines around the world. Stanford, who was convalescing in Honolulu after a strychnine poisoning attempt, died in her room at the Moana. Since then, there have been reports that Stanford’s ghost still haunts the waterfront hotel. In fact, guests and staff have said they’ve seen her walking around at night trying to find her room. Although the current version of La Fonda was built in
1922, the stunning estate has reportedly housed an inn since the city was first founded four hundred years ago. Of course, plenty of spirits are said to haunt the property’s Pueblo-style staircases and hallways. Most notably, both staff and guests have spotted a man in a long black coat stomping around and then… disappearing; They believe it's the ghost of Judge John P. Slough, who was murdered at the hotel during a bloody territorial dispute in 1867. And that's not all: there have been so many other ghost sightings at the hotel and surrounding area that La Fonda even offers ghost tours of the city's spookiest locations.
If it's creepy enough for MLB players to admit it publicly, then this historic, stately hotel must have some serious hauntings and the main culprit is said to be the ghost of the Milwaukee hotel's original owner, Charles Pfister. Baseball players in town who play for the Milwaukee Brewers have reported lights flickering, furniture moving, and radios turning on and off. As Cincinnati Reds' Brandon Phillips put it, "I'd go into my room and just sit on the bed. Then, for some reason, the damn radio would come on. So I'd turn it off and go into the shower. When I got out of the shower, the damn radio would come on again." And it's not just baseball players: many guests including actors Joey Lawrence and Meghan Thee Stallion have reported strange experiences at the hotel. Local lore says the land on which the hotel was built in 1893 may have once been a cemetery.
