The Servo Hydraulic System

The servo hydraulic system replaces the standard uncontrolled motor with a precisely controlled servo motor. The most important feature of variable speed pump motors is the more effective measurement of energy input and, thus, improved energy efficiency. Other advantages of servo hydraulics are improved control quality, compactness and low noise. This is why combining the hydraulic power transmission principle and speed-controlled power supply has become a standard solution in many applications in recent years.

Conversion from a servo hydraulic universal testing machine with a standard drive to a servo-hydraulic system is recommended when the treatment cycle includes many breaks, is long, or includes part-load areas where hydraulic power is not removed. They are especially useful when retrofit solutions are also a good idea and can greatly improve the energy efficiency of existing machines. Switching to hydraulic servo motors is not rocket science, and the benefits are evident over the machine’s life.

Once you’ve decided to switch to a servo-hydraulic system, the next step is to engineer the system. Some considerations here do not apply to conventional hydraulic systems with standard actuators.

The servo hydraulic system consists of a servo motor driving a synchronous servo motor. This motor drives a stationary pump. Pressure and flow setpoints are sent from the control unit to the motor. Pressure and flow in the diverter are controlled by adjusting the speed. The current situation is read out via the ECU as with conventional hydraulic systems with standard actuators. To design the drive system, the mechanical engineer sends the required flow and pressure values to the system supplier.

Hardware: The Internet of Things and Control

The servo-hydraulic system is a completely drive-based solution. This means that changing from standard to calibrated servo motors does not change the requirements of the CCU. The

interface for connecting the console to the device remains the same. The system can be implemented with different regulators, regardless of manufacturer.

For more transparency in production, servo drives provide smart features that improve the performance of your servo hydraulic system. The permanent collection, evaluation and transmission of data in the drive enables continuous monitoring and visualization of the technical condition of a machine or system. This way, certain events can be predicted so that potential machine failures can be detected early and maintenance intervals can be planned based on wear.

The optimized process sequence is achieved through intelligent control algorithms such as Adaptive Pressure Pre-Control. Servo-hydraulic testing machine allows the program to

automatically perform pressure jumps without exceeding the limit in the minimum time, with smooth transitions in a few milliseconds.

Software

The software, which contains all the functions to operate a servo hydraulic system, is directly integrated into the servo drive and is primarily intended to maximize the benefits of servo hydraulics.Agraphical user interface is used to define drive parameters.

As a system supplier, they can take over the drive system design and support you until it is ready for commissioning and series production. They support machine builders with many years of experience and knowledge when changing plants.
