Welcome to the Third Annual Houston Fine Art Fair! This year HFAF has produced a globallyreaching art fair for this international city. The fair presents a range of high-caliber art from contemporary and modern masters to today’s rising stars, with valuable treasures available for every budget level. I invite you to explore booth displays created by the 85 participating galleries. I am pleased to present a fair reflecting the collecting trends of this multicultural city. Nearly half of the dealers are from outside the UStraveling to the Fair from 14 countries. We present a wide ranging and impeccable selection of the finest in Latin American art. Houston Fine Art Fair and the Galleries Association of Korea have created the Korean Art Fair Pavilion, a cultural landmark featuring 14 galleries. I want to congratulate our 2013 honorees. Wendy Watriss and Frederick Baldwin will receive the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award for creating FotoFest International, the first international Biennial of Photography and Photo-related Art in the United States. The 2014 FotoFest will be their 15th biennial. Houston-based Artist Robert Pruitt will receive the 2013 Artist of the Year Award for his popart drawings and sculptures depicting the complexity of the African American experience. Thank you to over 60 local cultural and civic organizations for partnering with HFAF, and to our preeminent Collectors Committee for their ongoing support. I want to recognize John Guess Jr. and Melanie Lawson, of the Houston Museum of African American Culture, for chairing the Collectors Committee as well as advisors Marshal and Victoria Lightman for their vision and encouragement. Thanks to HAA for their significant and inspirational programming contributions. Opening night will benefit the HAA’s Business Volunteers for the Arts program, which all fair attendees will be able to learn more about at their welcome display located on the second floor next to the registration desk. HFAF’s goal is to introduce thousands of fairgoers to the excitement and psychic satisfaction of beginning and growing art collections. There is no better context to discover up-and-coming artists and there is no better time to invest in art. We hope you enjoy this international fair experience.

KOREAN ART FAIR PAVILION Produced in cooperation with the Galleries Association of Korea Over the past several years, there has been a continually growing interest in Korean contemporary art within the Houston art community. This has been fostered, in part, by an increasing Asian population in Houston and the many cultural achievements set by its leading art institutions, The Museum of Fine Art, Houston and the Asia Society Texas Center. The Korean Art Fair Pavilion, a landmark cultural event, is a wonderfully eyepopping and inspirational separate show area within the HFAF that brings the most promising and renowned contemporary artists to Houston. It is a great opportunity to carefully explore the technical, aesthetic and conceptual approaches to Korean art making. Houstonians will discover some of the most exciting art being created in Korea today and a chance to meet personally with 14 respected and visionary galleries to discuss their stable of gifted artists. View over 150 powerful paintings, sculptures, engravings, photos and works on paper, representing the finest work of nearly 100 artists. • • • • •

Ignacio Murua, Directors, Javier González The grounds of LOCAL Contemporary Art are based on the desire of establishing a model for the production and exhibition of art; comprehending this as a creative exercise in survival and irruption. LOCAL works with some stable artist staff and encourages promiscuous yet profound relationships with different artists. The goal is a development of specific projects in which we take on the challenge of the artistic exercise itself; a realm in which ideas and objects undertake the most fertile, unusual and disquieting relationships. The gallery has a dynamic perception which develops young artists and exhibits established artists. The challenge is to open new spaces and allow the link between the artist and the public to be more homogeneous. This is reinforced through presence in the most important local and international art fairs, counting on the sound advice of the artist Eduardo Medici.
