Welcome to the Fourth Edition of ArtAspen Let this informative catalog serve as your guide to the fourth annual ArtAspen. This four day International Fine Art Fair is one of the most significant art buying events of the year in Aspen. We are pleased to showcase a strong sampling of today’s most vibrant art sector, post-war and contemporary art, while also paying homage to Aspen’s well-earned reputation as an important fine art marketplace for collectors and patrons. Casting a global net, we have assembled 30 respected galleries from around the world, showing nearly $50 million in important mid 20th and 21st century art. Nearly six hundred art treasures are on display for viewing and sale, representing the best work of over 150 respected artists. By presenting this visually compelling experience, our goal is not only to establish ArtAspen as one of the cultural highlights of the Aspen summer season, but also to make it a must-see on the summer calendars of the globetrotting art cognoscenti. ArtAspen is proud to have its Opening Night Preview benefit the Paepcke Gallery at the Aspen Institute. Walter Paepcke was the founder of the Aspen Institute and the Aspen Skiing Company in the early 1950’s, both of which transformed the town of Aspen into an international resort destination. We believe that by presenting a boutique fair, attendees will experience a more impactful, comprehensive and manageable show. To stimulate the art acquisition, we created insightful, inspirational and educational sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I want to thank our many guest speakers, including William Morrow of the Denver Art Museum, Janet Dees of SITE Santa Fe, David Dadone of the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and Dean Sobel of the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver. ArtAspen is always charitable. We are pleased to also incorporate fundraising events for the Aspen Community School, and the Aspen Educational Foundation. I invite you to peruse the event schedule on pages 6 and 7. As the only major fine art fair in America in August 2013, ArtAspen generates considerable national buzz. Though a boutique fair, there is a remarkable selection of treasures for every budget level- from paintings and works on paper to photography, prints and sculptures. There’s no better time to invest in art. On behalf of our sponsors, and the entire HEG shows team, we hope you enjoy the fair experience. Sincerely, Rick Friedman Founder and Executive Director
