BIO RESIN
BioFoam is a new biodegradable EPS. This environmentally friendly material is made from plant and vegetable waste. It has a different environmental profile over traditional oil based plastics. After use, the BioFoamŽ product can be remoulded into a new product like EPS and it has additional end of life options. It can be completely biodegraded, composted or used for feedstock for recycling with no mechanical properties loss. Being designed for the environment' implies there is no chemical waste, which complies with the so called ‘Cradle to Cradle' principles.
It is known because of its strenght and flexibility. Moreover this fiber has been used in sustainable building construction. It cames from the stem of flax plant and has similar properties. It is soft and it is possible to get long fibers. The main difference between flax and glass fibers is that the first one absorb more resin.
The Benchmark criteria for surfboard resin is 15% biological carbon content and low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). The use of biological feedstocks in resin reduces the use of petroleum and significantly reduces the lifecycle CO2 footprint of the resin. The presence of low VOCs is a significant health benefit to the workers building the surfboards, due to reduced toxicity of materials.
