FROM THE DUGOUT

GOOD AFTERNOON TO EVERYONE

ATTENDING TODAY'S FIXTURE AGAINST GRIMSBY BOROUGH.

It was a fantastic away performance at Grantham last Saturday. Every single player was brilliant. It was a difficult surface and in my opinion, Grantham were one of the best teams we've played this season. It was a decent game and both sides had chances but apart from them hitting the bar after half-time, we should've scored a few.

Amar Purewal had one or two efforts and Liam Henderson could've had a hattrick but we done enough to get one goal and grind

it out. It was great movement from Amar for that goal and a great finish. They put bodies forward at the end but we dealt with it superbly. We don't think Dan Groves' hamstring injury is as bad as first thought so he might be available for today depending on his recovery.

All the injured lads travelled down with us at Grantham, and the supporters who came down were brillian A lot of suppor it was r thank t at full-t

It's another tough game today. Grimsby are a threat to the playoffs with their good run of formthey've only lost one in the last 14 games.

They were a good team in August and it was a tight game thenthankfully we came out with the win.

With lads missing now, we're expecting players to come in and do a job - that's why we've got a squad. Of course it'll be

WELCOME TO THE GREEN ENERGY SPORTS GROUND THIS AFTERNOON

AS WE FACE GRIMSBY BOROUGH.

We were solid all over in last weekend's victory away to Grantham.

From the back to the front, we played excellent and we matched them in every department.

We had a few decent chances so I think we were unlucky just to score one goal. They hit the bar though so all in all, we were delighted with the clean sheet.

When it's a long trip like Grantham, we're only going for one thing and that's to win.

I thought I played alright personally. The gaffer told me

to get my head down and get my shirt back. He wanted me to create opportunities and get at their defence - I thought I done decent. Starting gives me a bit more motivation - it can be frustrating as a substitute but knowing you're in that 11 means you play a bigger role and you have to impress. They're two different roles because coming off the bench, there's pressure on you changing the game - when you're starting, you have to be switched on for

the full 90 minutes. The away support has been brilliant. It's always great to see the fans travelling with us and it gives us a massive boost - it's nice to thank them at the end.

We're playing well so hopefully we can get larger crowds at home to cheer us on. We have to keep playing how we have been. We're solid at the back and haven't conceded in a while, the clean sheets have been massive to us. We're creating chances as well so we're confident going into today.

NOTICEBOARD

Jack Donaghy is set to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines following an injury in training.

The ever-present centreback, who has made 28 appearances this season, suffered a broken arm during training on Thursday night. He then underwent surgery and is expected to be out of action for a minimum of six weeks while recovering.

Everyone at the club wishes Jack the very best of luck with his recovery period and hope to see him back on the pitch soon. Meanwhile fellow defender Daniel Field has joined Northern League Division Two side, Tow Law Town, on dual-registration terms. Field, who has featured four times this campaign for Hebburn, was named on the bench last weekend as Tow Law travelled to

Heaton Stannington.

Finally we're thrilled to announce Jake Hackett has returned on loan until the end of the season. The midfielder, who can also play at left-back, arrives from Whitby Town having played twice for Hebburn in December.

Amar Purewal’s sixth consecutive league goal extended Hebburn's winning spree to eight games.

Liam Murray nearly created the opener as the midfielder superbly lofted a ball through for Joe Walton, who hooked over inside the area. Tom Devitt then slashed a shot off target after Robbie Spence crossed to the defender at the back post. At the other end, Nathan Tyson found Matt Tootle at the back stick but the experienced right-back couldn’t take advantage on the counter.

Tyson had Grantham’s best chance straight after halftime, as the former Nottingham Forest man cut inside before stroking an effort off the crossbar.

Shaun Newbrook played a vital role in keeping it level on 57 minutes as he kept out Daniel Cocks one-on-one. Purewal got the allimportant goal midway through the second period when Jack Donaghy’s long throw was flicked on by Spence, before the forward stabbed home at close-range. It could’ve been two when Ashton Hall’s pass didn’t reach the goalkeeper and Liam Henderson intercepted, but the substitute hit wide in an excellent position. Hebburn defended well in the dying stages, and Henderson even threatened with an effort from distance, as Moore’s side held on to the three points.

AN INTRODUCTION

PLAYER SPONSORS

We delve into the history books to find out more about today's visitors. Although the current version of Grimsby Borough were founded in 2003, a previous club by the same name were entered into the Central Midlands League in 1987, albeit initially under the name Grimsby Ross before their name change two seasons later. After a couple of seasons propping up the table, they were relegated to the Lincolnshire League in 1990, but by 1992 following second and fourth placed finishes, the club left the league and dissolved. Eleven years on, the new version of the club re-joined the Lincolnshire League and finished runners up in their first season, returning the club to the Premier Division of the CML.

They were promoted to the Supreme Division in

2007, and in 2008, Boro moved to the Northern Counties East League. In 2010, the club moved to their current home and 2012 brought Boro their first silverware when they beat Shirebrook Town to win the Wilkinson Sword Trophy, the NCEL’s League Cup. In 2019, Grimsby finished as Division One champions of the NCEL and were promoted to the Premier Division, step five of the non-league ladder. Last season Grimsby were crowned Premier Division champions and joined the Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division.

Brody Robertson's strike four minutes into the second half was enough to secure all three points on the road for Grimsby Borough against Sheffield at The Home of Football Stadium on Tuesday night. Following a fairly even, goalless first

period, Robertson opened the scoring when the striker expertly rounded keeper Gary Stevens to find the back of the net, after being found by Reece York's pass. The visitors had their own goalkeeper, Liam Higton to thank for keeping their lead,

when he made a tremendous reflex stop late on, saving a half volley with his left hand when his momentum appeared to be taking him the other way.

Daniel Barrett's side held on to make it eight away games unbeaten.

PLAYER SPONSORS JAKE HACKETT RETURNS

Jake Hackett has returned to The Green Energy Sports Ground until the end of the season on loan.

The midfielder, who can also play at left-back, arrives from Whitby Town having spent December with Daniel Moore’s side. Hackett made two appearances for Hebburn during his initial one-month loan spell, securing wins away to Bridlington and

Dunston.

The 23-year-old started his career with Sunderland before playing 78 times in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division for Whitby.

"I'm buzzing to be back," he stated.

"I really enjoyed my time here in December - the way the gaffers operated and the lads were spot on.

"Even though it was for a

short period, I really enjoyed my football here.

"I've settled straight back in since I know the lads already and it's just about carrying on from where I left off.

"The support here at Hebburn is immense - the general feel around the club is really positive.

"It's a big game matchevery game until the end of the season is massive now so it's about building momentum."

First-team manager Daniel Moore also shared his excitement in securing the midfielder's services.

"We're really pleased to bring him in," Moore commented.

"We've had him here before so he knows what we're all about.

"I thought a lot of him before he came here, and he was outstanding during that month.

"He brought something extra to our midfield and he can play in a number of

other positions across the pitch.

"I know he wanted to come back to the club and I think it's a good fit for everyone.

"He enjoys it here and we're delighted to have himhopefully he can kick on for the rest of the season.

"He can relax now knowing he's here's until the end of the season - he's chomping at the bit to give it everything he's got."

Our U23s beat Benton on penalties last weekend to progress in the Bill Gardner Cup after a 2-2 draw.

Matty Robinson felt the side weren't at their best however, with a number of things to work on.

"At times we played good football," assessed the central midfielder.

"We played short passes all over the park and created some good chances, however we weren't clinical enough.

"We were sloppy at times and allowed the opposition to take us to penaltieshuge credit to Benton, you can see why they're top of their league.

"The

Gary Henry's outfit return to league action on this afternoon with a trip to to Stobswood Welfare.

The hosts are currently third

in the table, but with several games in hand, are favourites for the league title.

"Stobswood is going to be a very tough game," previewed Robinson.

"If we are wanting to get promotion this season, this is a game that's a must-win.

"They've only had one defeat in the league this season and are a very physical team who like to play football, so it should be a good test for us.

"If we all turn up with the right attitude of wanting to win, we will beat them.

"I truly believe on our day, no team in this league or anyone in the Northern Alliance beats us."

Hebburn Town U23s sit seventh in the table but a win on the road today could see them jump as high as fourth.
