GROUND FOR TODAY'S GAME.

It wasn't the best game on Tuesday against Whickhamwe didn't play too well. With it being a cup game, all we were focused on was the result. The main thing was getting through to the semi-final, where we'll hopefully play much better and get through again. It was 50/50 before they went down to 10 men, but we let them back into it during the second half which made it a bit harder. It was good to be back personally. Since we only train twice a week, I've been doing a bit of work by myself to keep sharp and fit. Nothing replicates match sharpness, so it was nice to gradually get back into it.

Durham Challenge Cup and the manager has made that clear. It'll be a different game against Bridlington today - they'll have a bit more quality and want to put us under pressure. We'll have to raise our levels and get back to our best this afternoon.

Hebburn Town are delighted to announce a young duo have signed 28day work experience loans.

The pair join from Middlesbrough U21s, having recently returned to action after suffering long-term injuries.

Guisborough-born Alfie Doherty (left) is a central midfielder who has been with Boro for the last 12 years.

Nathan Simpson (right) can play across both flanks and also earned experience at youth level for England. They will be eligible to make their senior debuts this afternoon against Bridlington.

"They're good players," said first-team manager Daniel Moore.

"I know Mark Tinkler who manages the U21s, and he wouldn't send them here unless they'd develop.

"We've got so many games over the next month and they'll bring some fresh legs to the team.

"It'll give the squad a lift because they're two talented young lads who'll only improve us going forward."

Olly Martin's penalty proved to be Hebburn's winning ticket to the Durham Challenge Cup semi-final.

In the sixth minute, Liam Murray did well down the right edge of the area, but his ball across the face of goal just evaded his teammates. After a period of relatively little goalmouth action, a big moment in the game arrived on 33, as Whickham's Kaleb Young received his marching orders following a late challenge on Murray. It wasn’t long before the visitors took advantage of the extra man, as Murray was brought down in the area by Dom Agnew, and Martin stepped up to smash home a 37th minute penalty. On 41, Murray was down in the area again but despite his appeals, referee Graeme Hopper waved it away.

On the hour, Martin tried his luck with Nathan Harker almost palming into his own net following a one-handed stop, then Robbie Spence forced the shot-stopper into another save moments later with a low effort.

In stoppage time, Whickham had a great chance to level through Ethan Page, with Shaun Newbrook turning the ball behind with his legs at the near post. The narrow victory on Tuesday means Hebburn will host Seaham Red Star for a place in the Durham Challenge Cup Final, while Dunston face Spennymoor Town.
