FROM THE DUGOUT
DANIEL MOORE
BACK TO THE GREEN ENERGY SPORTS GROUND.
It's a long season - we understand what we need to do to get out of this spell. Last weekend at Lincoln, it was probably the best we've played with the ball all season. Overall at half time we were pleased with how in control we were, without doing too much to challenge their keeper. We felt pretty comfortable and we knew the final third product would eventually come. We went 1-0 up and pressed the self destruct with three sloppy goals. We gave a penalty away within
minutes and that gave them a massive lift.
I've been through this before - every team in this league will have a similar spell and we'll need to get through it. This is where we see what players we've really got. I've questioned some of the lads' footballing brain we need to give everything every game.
Amar Purewal will be out for two or three weeks with his hamstring and Liam H now su we'll ha shuffle and exp forward
Because of the start we’ve had, there won’t be many games this season that we’re not expected to win today is one of them.
I watched Worksop last Tuesday against Shildon and they’re a good side - you have to hold your hands up and say they have some good, experienced players. They’ll have aspirations of winning the division but we’re not going to roll

TODAY'S HOME FIXTURE AGAINST WORKSOP TOWN.
It was nice to get a full 90 minutes at the start of the week against a young Sunderland side. I was slightly tired after Monday's friendly against Sunderland, but it was good to get minutes into the legs at a fairly good level. Hopefully it will help me and a few other lads going into the next few weeks. They're a full-time side so they tried to play out from the back and through the thirds, which allowed us
to push on and capitalise. It was a different kind of game, which helped us press high up the pitch. They were pretty sharp - in our league, you might not come against players who can take the ball on the move and create space. We had to be a bit more careful defensively and hopefully that'll benefit us. It's bee challen back to after m home,
slowly getting there and hopefully I can push on in the next few weeks. It'll be a tough game against Worksop Town todaycompletely different to Monday night. We've obviously lost two in a row so we want to put things right.
Daniel Moore's side fell to a second consecutive league defeat last weekend away to Lincoln United.
On the half hour, Hebburn enjoyed a period of possession with Shaun Newbrook finding Olly Martin after a flick on, though Jack Steggles got his body behind the shot. The next opportunity didn’t come until the hour, when Lincoln skipper Matt Cotton drove past Dan Groves and Jack Donaghy before curling wide.
Wayne Phillips nearly found the top corner on 63 minutes after a cleared Hebburn setpiece, however the midfielder’s skilful attempt flew over.
The deadlock was broken on 65 minutes as Joe Walton
drove down the flank before playing it across to Martin, with his long-range strike hitting the post and going into the bottom corner.
Just moments later, Lincoln pegged level as Donaghy gave a penalty away and Cotton sent Newbrook the wrong way. With seven to go, Lincoln made it 2–1 as a cross from the left was met by Louie Jarvis, and Jake Park dummied goalkeeper Newbrook at close-range.
On 87 minutes, the hosts notched a third as a corner was headed in at the back post by centre back AJ Adelekan.
Hebburn pressed in the final stages but Steggles kept out both Moore and Liam Henderson.
MID-SEASON FRIENDLY
BY WILL JEFFRIESHebburn Town welcomed a young Sunderland XI for a mid-season friendly on Monday evening.
Hebburn's squad included six U18s and nearly went ahead on 12 minutes as Olly Martin’s shot was saved by the Sunderland goalkeeper. Martin kept pressing in the 14th minute as he squared the ball across goal to Liam Henderson, who converted from close range to give Hebburn the lead.
Good build-up play from Hebburn saw James Harrison advance into the visitors’ penalty area before he was brought down by the defender to win a penalty on 26 minutes.
Martin stepped up to score the resulting effort, as he smashed his effort down the
middle and the keeper went the wrong way.
On 29 minutes, the Sunderland defence failed to clear their lines as the advancing goalkeeper lost out to Henderson 25 yards out, who chipped into an open net to put Hebburn 3-0 up.
After the hour, good buildup play from Sunderland saw the youngsters pull one back at close-range.
Hebburn then broke as Liam Murray tackled one of the defenders before drilling a low effort past the goalkeeper who, despite getting a hand to it, saw it crawl over the line.
At the death, Sunderland counter-attacked and drilled a strike past Andy Coulson to make it 4-2.

AN INTRODUCTION

BY DAVID COULTHARDSecond-place Worksop Town have enjoyed nine consecutive league wins. After spending time in the Sheffield and District League and the Sheffield Association League in the 1890s, the start of the 19th century saw The Tigers move into the Midlands League, where they remained for many years. A merger after World War I meant the name Worksop and Manton Athletic was adopted, before they won the Midlands League title in 1921, and reached the FA Cup first round on four occasions in the space of five years, before disbanding in 1930.
A new club was formed and started life back in the Sheffield Association League before joining the Yorkshire League in 1935, however this iteration of the club also folded. The club once again reformed in the Midlands League, before their best FA
After winning a second Midlands League title in 1966, Worksop soon became a founder member of the NPL in 1968, but were relegated in the first season. A third and final Midlands League title came along and the club were back in the NPL.
After spending three years in the Conference North from 2004-2007, followed by a period back in the NPL, financial issues lead to a resignation from the league in 2014 and the club dropped down to the NCEL. They won the title in 2019 bringing them back up to their present level, and an impressive start to this season sees them in second place with three games in hand. Cup run to the third round was achieved.

Goalkeeping coach Carl Morris discusses settling into the club and Shaun Newbrook's recent displays.
Morris arrived at The Green Energy Sports Ground alongside Daniel Moore and Mark Hudson from Shildon in the summer. The trio guided The Railwaymen to a play-off spot in the Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division in 2021/22,
during their first season in the eighth tier.
Since joining Hebburn, The Hornets have improved on a mid-table finish and currently sit third in the league standings.
"We've really enjoyed it so far," stated Morris.
“It’s such a well ran family club the welcome has been that great it’s felt like we’ve been here for years.
“I was at Shildon for two
years and we were successful for a number of reasons - one of the main things was because of how defensively solid we were. “We’re off to a good start in the league - we had a really tough pre-season and that’s helped us. “Everyone worked hard, especially the goalkeepersBobby [Daniel Moore] gives me free reign to get straight to work with them so they’re in the best possible condition. “Of course we brought Shaun Newbrook in but I also inherited a group of young, talented keepers at the club and they’ve all done excellent for me so far.” Newbrook was Shildon’s number one for four years, but followed his manager to South Tyneside in the off-season. The shot-stopper has made 19 appearances for Hebburn since joining, with five clean sheets and three Hitachi Man of the Match awards.
“He’s getting better with age,” commented the goalkeeping coach.
“To be fair, I think we’ve deserved a few more clean sheets for our performances this season.
“We had 13 or 14 last season at Shildon and that got us into the play-offs, so that is once again our target. “For me he’s one of, if not, the best goalkeeper in this league - he’s excelling at everything he does at the minute.
“He’s phenomenal at shotstopping, even in training, he reads the centre forwards so well. “We tend to play out from the back but he’s also got pinpoint kicking ability,
which is a positive when you have targets like Liam [Hendedson] and Amar [Purewal] upfront. “His experience is valuable as well and filters down to the younger keepers, so he’s massive to us in a number of areas.”
Meanwhile, Andy Coulson returned to Hebburn in September after serving as back-up during the 2020/21 campaign.
“We’re pleased to have Andy with us,” explained Morris.
“For a young age, he’s very experienced and I know everyone was really fond of him when he was first at the club.
“He’s not just there to make up the numbers either - he’s providing competition and pushing Shaun on.
“Not only has he got ability but he’s brought a lot of positivity to the group, and we’ll work him to kick him on.
“He played for Pickering Town recently while their
keeper was unavailable - we didn’t plan on it but it’s certainly beneficial to play games at that level."
Morris inherited 21-year-old Kieran Hunter, who was a mainstay in the club’s U23 side.
The former Sunderland and Gateshead youngster was called upon five times for the first team last year, and is currently on a dual registration deal at Chester le Street Town.
“That deal was something we wanted to do,” said Morris.
“He had a few offers in the summer but nothing quite materialised so he carried on playing for the U23s.
“When we came into the
club, I was told about his ability and he lived up to expectations in pre-season, we were really impressed. “He’s a quiet lad so going to a Northern League club will get him used to a new dressing room and bring him out of his shell.
“He’s playing every week for Chester-le-Street and we watched one of his games, he looks so comfortable.
