TONIGHT'S GAME AGAINST MY FORMER CLUB, SHILDON.

It was a solid performance on Friday but we started the game quite slowly.

In the first 20 minutes, Stockton pinned us in and had a few chances to go one or two up.

We said to the lads, playing a top-ofthe-league side, we need to put our bodies on the line and that's what we did. The opening goal settled us down and allowed us to play a little bit. Olly Martin then got his second and it was a great finish - I get frustrated with him because that's how good he can be.

We expected them to come out in the second half and us to go backs against the wall, but it didn't happen like that.

Amar Purewal's goal was welltaken and calmed us down because 2 0 can be a strange scoreline. Shaun Newbrook deserves more than one clean sheet so it was a shame we couldn't get that in the end.

I thought Arron Thompson was excellent because he was going out and pre Someth that trig whole t work ha though

was fantastic across the pitch. We're definitely looking forward to tonight's game against Shildon. We'll see their supporters and have a pint after the game, but it's all about getting the result because that's what we need to push up in this league.

GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO

BACK TO LEAGUE ACTION AS WE WELCOME SHILDON.

Everyone grafted from the first minute on Friday night against Stockton. Overall, it was a great team performance. Stockton didn't like us pressing them high and it showed the goals came from our pressing. That first goal calmed us down because the game felt like it was going 100 mile an hour from both teams. When that went in, we settled down and worked our way into the game. Then the second helped us a lot and third made sure of the win.

In all the trophies, you want to go as far as possible and have a good run, so it's nice to keep progressing.

For me, I want to improve on my goal tally from last year.

I got 15 so I would like to beat that I haven't started well on that front but the last two games have helped, getting four inside a week.

It's another massive game tonight at The Green Energy Sports Ground against There's bit of m behind gaffers the sum

coming here. As always, we just want the three points on the board. Hopefully we can get the victory and keep our good run of form going.

Hebburn progressed in The Isuzu FA Trophy with a 3-1 victory over Stockton Town on Friday night.

Stockton dominated the opening stages but it was the home side who took the lead in the 26th minute when goalkeeper Callum Roberts' weak clearance came to Olly Martin, who expertly curled into the unguarded net. The second goal arrived in the 34th minute when Dan Groves' cross from the right skipped off the surface, before Martin met it sweetly on the half-volley to smash past Roberts.

Martin almost completed a first half hat-trick on 42 when another curling effort was tipped around the post by Roberts. On the hour, Hebburn

grabbed a third when Groves flicked into the path of Amar Purewal who chipped the keeper to find the back of the net. Groves did well to win the ball back deep in the Stockton half on 64, before another trademark Martin curler was clawed away. Hebburn had the chance to make it 4-0 as Liam Henderson nodded Joe Walton's free-kick down, and substitute James Harrison stung Roberts' gloves.

It was the visitors who grabbed the final goal of the evening in the 89th when Tyrone O'Neill headed past Shaun Newbrook from close range, but it wasn't enough to prevent Hebburn from progressing.

PLAYER SPONSORSINTRODUCTION

We delve into Daniel Moore's former side and tonight's visitors, Shildon. Shildon were formed in 1890 as Shildon Town, before a merger four years later seen them become Shildon United. The Railwaymen joined the Auckland and District League in 1892, before moving into the newly formed Northern League Division Two in 1900, however the club folded due to financial problems. They reformed in 1903 as Shildon Athletic and rejoined the Northern League for four years, before turning semi-professional in the North Eastern League in 1907.

The name change to their current guise happened in 1923, and the club went on to win four successive Northern League titles between 1934 to 1937, with the last of those seasons also seeing their best ever FA Cup run.

The Dean Street side have moved between

the Northern League’s two divisions over several decades and in 2015/16 they won the Northern League’s league and cup double. Along with Hebburn and Stockton Town, Shildon were promoted to step four based on their points per game record in 2021, ending a run of 2,896 league games in the Northern League. They have won nine Northern League Cups and three Durham Challenge Cups during this time, enjoying a ray of success under Moore. Hebburn boss Moore led Shildon to the East Division play-offs last season, but The Railwaymen have struggled this campaign and dismissed new manager Jamie Tunstall yesterday.

LAST MATCH

Shildon suffered a 3-0 loss on the road at Brighouse Town, leaving them in 17th in the Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division with three points from their first six games. Brighouse made a fast start to proceedings and

were in front in just the third minute after Javelle Clarke laid the ball off for Tom Haigh to finish well from the edge of the area. The lead was soon doubled in the 11th minute through Jack Normanton, squeezing his effort under Matty Bateman at his near

post after more good work by Clarke. The points were wrapped up in stoppage time when Jack Boyle broke away down the right and despite having two teammates available, finished well into the far corner.

MEMORABLE MEETING

NOTICEBOARD

The Hornets claimed a dramatic victory over Shildon in April 2019 on South Tyneside.

Jason Blackburn came off the bench to score at the death to give Scott Oliver's side three points in Northern League Division One action.

Current Hebburn shotstopper Shaun Newbrook was in between the sticks for the visitors, while Daniel Moore started the game. The opening move of the fixture came as Shildon captain Aidan Heywood drove an effort past Andrew Jenninson's post from the edge of the area.

Gary Shaw teed up Michael Richardson for Hebburn at the other end, but the midfielder fizzed over at close range. Richardson later looked to become provider, whipping in a free-kick from the right which Robbie Spence

nodded over.

Player-manager Moore came close on 15 minutes, but Shaw cleared his headed effort from a corner off the line.

Matthew Robson was denied twice by Jenninson, but Nathan Steel got the opener after the hour one-on-one. Thirteen minutes later, Louis Storey latched onto Spence's pass to equalise, while Moore was sent off for dissent. In the dying seconds,

NOTICEBOARD

A number of ex-Shildon players will face their former side this evening on South Tyneside.

Hebburn manager Daniel Moore joined The Hornets in the summer, after spending over a decade at Dean Street.

The centre-back played for The Railwaymen before giving eight years' service to the army.

He returned and lifted the Northern League Cup and Division One title as captain. Moore was named player manager in January 2017 and claimed the JR Cleator and Durham Challenge Cup.

Hitting around 500 appearances at Dean Street, Moore achieved promotion alongside Hebburn in 2020/21 with his tenure ending in a 59% win ratio from 223 games. Assistant manager Mark Hudson also spent four

years at Shildon as a player, before joining Moore on the touchline in October 2017. Shot stopper Shaun Newbrook played over 150 times during a four-year period with the County Durham outfit before also departing in the summer.

Currently-injured winger Will McCamley was with Shildon last season, while Amar Purewal had a stint at Dean Street in 2016. Right-back Dan Groves was
